HTC One, G2 or Z1 ? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody, excuse my english i'm french
So, i will buy a new smartphone, but i CAN'T decide between these phone, it's hard. I've a basic usage, i use my phone for SMS/call/twitter/facebook/(few) games/musique (with earphone)/(few) photos, and that's all I search a beautiful interface, because I HATE Android stock, it's very empty. So i search a beautiful interface with good features, i also search a very fast phone, and that's all because these 3 phone have an amazing screen/performance etc.
I like the HTC One because i think Sense is good, and i can't stay for the new HTC, but the One will have Sense 6.0 (with ROM custom) ? And the One is old..
I like the G2 for his screen, and his is new
And the Z1 for his camera
So thank you if you could help me, i've 800$ so i can buy any phone, thank you !
Excuse me for my english..

Pro and cons are allowed in one thread. but for comparisons between 2 or 3 phones, people will take this to serious and it will go out of hand fast. And anyway he put this in an HTC One forum why would take about how awesome another phone is because most of us don't have both phones anyway. But to answer the op the HTC One is the best!!!!

I have M7 and 'had' Z1, just recently sold it due to a few factors such as weight, poor screen viewing angles, ridiculous button placement, limited dev support and extremely average camera in low to medium light conditions. I cant say much about the G2 other than imo its fairly ugly looking.

It is just a little funny that we are alloud to compare eg. the camera of two phones, but to compare two phones is not...
Never mind...
I actually have both phones in the house, and have used the Z1 for two months as my own before i bought the ONE...
- and this is my thoughts on the subject...
Camera:
The Auto feature (point and shoot) of the Z1 is NOT working at all...
The manual function is working, but i think that most of us use auto function anyway...
A Little plus is that Z1 have a deticated camera button.
On the ONE, the auto "point and shoot" function works really great, but in this phone you really have to remember that it is only a 4mp camera nomatter that HTC try to call them ultra pixels...
Sony have at least the option to make a great camera down the line, as they at least have put in the hardware for it inside the phone...
Daily feel:
The Z1 is really fantastic pice of electronics, the glass/alu feel is really nice...
The viewing angle is not amazing, but i mostly use the phone when i look at it anyway, so that is NOT a real problem unless you really need to share your life at any moment with the World arround you, and then you could just turn your phone over to your friend anyway...
The edges arround the Z1 screen is simply much too wide thoug, with no function at all, just a lot of Black (or White or purple)...
Back and home is even onscreen, and not on the edge...
The water proof feature is really nice to have thoug, just wash the phone if it get dirty...
The processor in the Z1 feels supperior to the HTC by a lot, it feels like it have the power to do anything you want...
The ONE on the other hand is alu/plastic, and feels a little cheaper i think, but really nice compared to most phones anyway...
The ONE have a smaller size due to a Little smaller screen and much smaller edges, and it feels better in the hand when you hold it and use it...
- the Z1 is actually a little too big to type on or use it with one hand, and i have no small hands...
The edges on the ONE is much smaller arround the screen and i love that...
But the processor in the ONE actually feels less powerfull... you can actually feel it in daily use...
Sense or Xperia, i can´t really see the differense...
- both works fine, but the Xperia is perhaps a little closer to the pure Android feeling...
I have both in the house as i mentioned, and i have used both as my daily phone, but...
I would proberbly get the Z1 again (don´t hate me HTC ONE forum), but only IF the Z1 had a dual sim feature like my HTC ONE variant...
- i love the dual sim feature in my ONE variant, and THAT is the only reason i bought this phone!

Thank you very much, i've tested the Z1 in a store just 30 seconds, and i was REALLY blufed by the smooth of the phone, it's incredible, the G2 and the One aren't available for testing.. I don't open a game or other, just open the browser (Google Chrome) and scroll into the homescreen, this is very fast, so i think i will buy this phone, but i love Sense and i don't want wait 3 months for the new HTC.. The G2 is not very beautiful, so i pass on this phone. The Z1 have many problems (reviews from buyers), so, it's better i go on the HTC One who is a great value or the Z1 ? If i buy the One, will i have Sense 6.0 with ROM Cutom or Official updates ? Thank you all

Before this thread gets closed. Check out the Xperia Z1S. Newer, better and an IPS screen. Completely waterproof certified too (for 30 minutes). It comes to the US on January 22nd, and I'm completely on the fence on whether to stick with my One or get that.

Still make sense to get one?

Hey all,
I recently picked up a Note 3 but I'm really unhappy with Samsung's interface and layout of it's hardware buttons and so I'm think of returning it and getting something else. The HTC One has always been appealing but I was a not fan of it's lack of external storage and small battery. I recently found out about the Butterfly S and it seems to address of the issues that I had with the One. I'm a big fan of HTC's interface and so I'm wondering if still makes sense to buy a Snapdragon 600 device now the SD800 devices are on the market. I know specs aren't everything as I have gone back to my Nexus 4 and even tho that device is way lower spec'd than the Note 3 it performs a whole lot better. I'm not a big phone gamer and I mainly use my device to surf the web, read twitter, watch videos and read comics. Mainly I want to know how smooth is the interface(is it as good the Nexus 4) and how good is the battery life? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

My opinion is, by all means, go for it. The Butterfly S is a phone I'm genuinely happy with. The interface is really smooth (I only noticed a lag about two times in the whole time I've been using it) and the battery is fantastic, also refer to this thread. (My experience is that it lasts two days of medium usage and I still have about 30% left at the end of the second day.)
Anyway, it's up to you. If you like to buy a new phone every few months when a new phone is hyped up, it may be too late. Myself, I'm not comfortable shelling out hundreds of euros every month on a new phone just because it's newer and has better specs, I tend to buy a gadget (phone, laptop) and then use it for two or three years, until it gets really cumbersome. For me, the Butterfly S was almost certainly the best option at the time when I bought it.
So, all in all, if you like to switch to a new plaything often, it's probably late for you. If you intend to stick to your phone, you can't go wrong with this one.
i fully agree with koniiiik, there are just a few phones like the Butterfly S, unless you want an even bigger screen of course.
LG G2 - looks nice, snapdragon 800 and all, but i dont trust LG because of previous experience (lack of updates, had to return one phone SEVEN times for them to fix it).
Samsung Galaxy S4 - doesnt have the stamina of the Butterfly S and i prefer the Super LCD 3 screen of the Butterfly S.
Sony Xperia Z1 - very nice build quality, great screen and camera, also has the Snapdragon 800, i didnt want to wait for this phone though.
a friend of mine got one so have been able to try it, what i really dont like is how it feels in the hand, the Butterfly S feels more natural, even though its thicker.
actually, the thinness of the Z1 makes it harder to pick the phone up from the table, the BS is way easier to pick up.
and last, the Z1 is waterproof, thats nice, but also means all ports are closed with small covers, means you have to pry open the usb port to charge it, unless you buy a cradle.
LG Optimus G Pro - see G2
and none of them have the front stereo speeakers, a feature i think all phones should have
Thanks for the feedback guys. I think I'm going to jump on board.
the only reason not to buy this is the price, its quite a bit more expensive than the Z1 or S4
and ofcourse you'll have to import it if you don't live in Asia, so you probably will have to pay import tax

Yeah the price is a bit high but I currently have no interest in anything that Samsung is pushing and the Z1 I heard has poor battery life and screen view angles.
i'm amazed the angles of the Z1 screen are so poor, with all the know-how Sony has put into it
and i really dont like how it feels in the hand, it doesnt feel natural, like the BS
the Z1 is only 3,5mm wider but you can really feel the difference

Yeah the angles on the Z1 have been a big disappointment and you would think Sony of all companies would get the screen right.
I came from an Xperia Z. Horrid phone. I was just giving Sony a shot and I realize that they're exactly where they were 3 years ago. The only things that they can do are bump up the hardware, put flaps over all the ports and submerge their devices inside water tanks for show. Otherwise, they've got nothing else going for them.
My answer is yes. Get this device. You won't regret it.

I was a BlackBerry user for the past few years and using HTC Butterfly S was perhaps the best choice mobile device I had made... enjoying it, not just because it is Android but rather of its GUI, Sense 5, battery life, expandable storage and bigger screen. Go get this device... unless like what many others said, you just want to swtich device as and when better specs come.
I also think this is the best phone ever this is a complete device i no longer have to look for a device until the next year or more. How i know this is a great device? Lol i have flashed roms but i am now back to stock and rooted and enjoying it so that should tell u something it is a monster out of the box
i dont feel the need for a different rom either, the only thing it really needed was Nova Launcher, home screens on Sense aren't customizable enough, now its perfect

I wanted to relocate BlinkFeed, sadly you can't have BlinkFeed on any other homescreen besides Sense. Then again, i have BlinkFeed as a shortcut, but i don't really use it, so now i don't mind that didnt work out.
But i also didn't like the app drawer and more importantly, the number of icons per screen. Now i can have 4x5 icons per screen, that is something you should be able to set in any homescreen, maybe Sense 5.5 will have this...

nope, you can set the grid size for the app launcher, but not the number of icons per screen
I got my phone today and I really happy with it so far. The only that notice is that I'm getting some odd static feedback when using headphones. Is this happening for anyone else? If so how did you fix it? I have tried 3 different headphones and all are the same.
Edit:
After inspecting the jack I notice that a tiny bit of the plastic inside the jack is broken. I'm hoping Negri will be able to repair or replace it.

Were all headphones you tried in-ear? With in-ear headphones you may get some hiss and CPU noise, and possibly crackling with bass at highest volumes (not everyone has this problem but I have it =/). If you use high impedance over-ear headphones the hiss is almost inaudible..
The first time you use a headphone (especially one with mic input - 3 black bands on the plug) on the Butterfly s you might get some static if you spin the headphone plug, but it will go away.
To answer the question of this thread, I still think it makes sense to get one. HTC's last high-end phone with 3 buttons, future phones will only have 2 buttons and a lot of people don't like that. Unfortunately I am not sure how well HTC will be supporting updates but considering it is mostly an Asia-only product I will likely be updated faster. I really hope to see Kit-Kat on it at the least...
Yeah it has pretty much gone away. Like you said I still get static when I twist the plug in the jack. I guess I'm going to need to pick up a mic free headset. It still blows tho. I have never had this on any other phone. Other than that, this phone is fantastic.

Future HTC ONE User Question

Hello people!
The upcoming Friday my contract with my cell company expires so the company in order to convince me to sign a new contract is offering me:
HTC One or Sony XPERIA Z1.
Beeing for 5 years a user of various HTC devices I was pretty happy appart my latest HTC ONE X that spend last summer around 2 months in service changing twice mainboard and battery on warranty.
This last experience made me a bit skeptical about going along with the latest HTC device.
Are you happy with your HTC ONE?
Any significant problems you encountered?
Is the camera as bad on daylight as I read in the various reviews?
Do you think I should go with the ONE or maybe try something new with the Z1?
Thanks in advance for your help and feedback.
Cheers!

Z1. Without a doubt. Use the heck out of it for the 14 days so that you can return it if you don't like it though.
The One has a terrible camera. The Z1 doesn't have OIS, but it's better in almost every other regard unless you're a AL-phile or need stereo sound.
Seriously. There is absolutely no comparison between the One and the Z1. They are two different generations of phone and should be treated as such.
I don't like my One. It's not what it was advertised to be, and I wouldn't recommend anybody buy the H1 in light of recent phone announcements like the Z1 and the N1 and the N3 and the N5 and the G2 and the (?)S5. Wow. Those names doe.

I kind of lost you with the AL acronym.
Can you explain what you mean by AL?

Lol, someone is having a bad day?
The fact you are having troubles with your HTC One, does not mean everyone does.
Yes, they are two different phones, but the speed difference is only noticable with really heavy games and benchmarks.
With day-to-day use, a person cannot tell the difference.
A bit more neutral non-biased oppinion;
If you look holding a premium device, that feels like a premium device, you can buy the HTC One.
There is not competition in terms of build quality, not a chance.
I'm a stock Android fan, but HTC has done a REALLY good job with Sense 5 (and an even better one with Sense 5.5).
The Snapdragon 600 will hold easily for the next two years..
I'd try them both, and my suggest, if you do not take the HTC One, take a look at the new Nexus.
Updates from Google, Snapdragon 800 and a nice looking phone (dunno about the build quality though).

Al = Aluminum. And what Justin^^^ said is true. Suddenly, anything not made out of the finest materials feels cheap to me. In terms of premium feel, nothing can beat the One. It strikes all the right chords, and fits just right. And I do a lot of gaming on the One, and I actually DO see some lag, and its noticeable.
I maintain my position on the camera though. If you're looking for a camera that can capture any detail beyond the "with so and so at so and so", look elsewhere. But for just social media, this camera is fine. It won't perform in low light unless you get a perfect unit (unlikely), so don't count on that.
The Z1 has tons of cool stuff like SD, waterproof, dustproof, snapdragon 800, 20.7 MP camera, 3000 mAh battery etc. It comes down to this: do you want a premium feeling phone that performs adequately, or do you want a beast of a phone that looks and feels only slightly worse.
AL = Aluminum, H1 = HTC One, Z1 = Sony Xperia Z1, N1 = Oppo N1, N3 = Samsung Galaxy Note 3, N5 = Nexus 5, G2 = LG G2, S5 = Samsung Galaxy S5.

@ Op
Here small comparison just for you between the two
Soc = Xperia z1
Screen quality = HTC One
Sound via headphones = HTC One
Sound loudness & quality via speaker(s)= HTC - here is definetelly no comparison dual stereo speakers vs mono low quality/loudness speaker ..
Build quality = HTC One .. glass simply isn't better then aluminum
Front facing camera = HTC One
Rear facing camera = i don't know what to say here z1 with current firmware trully sux but i know it'll get better later so i'd say z1
Battery life = HTC One ..
Software = HTC One - The software is miles ahead of z1 and better optimised it's lagg/stutter free
Overall issues with the device are far less then with z1 , with 1 you can only get purple tint camera while z1 has issues pretty much with everything
As for the camera @ Op take a look at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46539474&postcount=2955
HTC One - camera samples thread -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2169626&page=296
Xperia z1 - camera samples thread -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2438859&page=43
Here the whole thread with bunch of photos so take a look a bit before you decide , take a look at z1 samples as well
That's pretty much how the camera works , if this isn't good enough for you and camera is priority for you got with z1
Lastly if you need any more insights about HTC One feel free to PM me i'd be happy to tell you more about it and give you more samples from my own camera if needed from any scenario also answer every question you got about HTC One.

There is a sticky thread on top of this forum that reads "read before posting here". If you did, you would have noticed that we don't allow any comparison threads here for the reasons mentioned there.
So if you have a SPECIFIC question about a SPECIFIC difference between two phones, feel free to start a new thread with it. But please no general "Is the phone good and why?" or "Is the phone better than...."

[Q] Moving from HTC One to Z1 (Questions!)

Let me start by saying that I am an avid HTC fan. Been using all HTC flagship devices..but now I feel its time for a change. I love the One, especially the speakers and the feel of the device, but the camera is really bad. So now I was thinking of moving to the Z1...but before I do..I have couple of queries
1. Custom ROM: I ALWAYS use custom ROMS and I am not too impressed with the choices. Either way, since I have no control over which ROM version I am going to get, I was wondering if there are bootloader lock issues, or other things I should be concerned about? Do I really need to unlock boot loader before I install a custom ROM?
2. I read that the camera doesnt work if the bootloader is unlocked..is this still true? If yes, then how do you guys manage?
3. I read the speakers arent that great (and no comparison to the HTC one), but how is the headphone sound? I read that these devices use the same audio chipset and I know PureX audio (or something like that is great) is available. What is the general view?
4. Do I really need to get a case? (I HATE cases...just kills the beauty of the device!)
Appreciate your comments/remarks.

hi i am also htc fan had htc one replaced it for z1 due to purple tint issue
1)at the moment unlocking bootloader causes camera to break and sony might solve this issue in future
2)at this moment happy with the stock and some roms which can be flashed with locked bootloader
3)as compared to htc one not that much great
4)it depends on u r use i found no need of case
I can't comment on any of the ROM questions as I haven't gone in to that yet, but for the others...
Headphone sound is excellent. I bluetooth mine to some Sony MDR1BT's and the quality is very good. Very negligible difference between BT and cable operation. I have a few sets of high end cans and the quality is right up there. Can't say what the cheap earbuds are like that you get with the phone as I haven't taken them out of the packaging!
With the case, I'm 100% with you on that one, I hate cases on phones. However, the anti shatter film that they put on the front and back scratches ridiculously easy. Easier than most screen protectors I've used (also not a big fan of those either). The glass is meant to be very durable, but the film on top is not. I'd recommend a tempered glass set, pretty sure you can get them for the front and back.
Camera will break if you try to unlock, rooting and installing Xperia roms however are fine
Also I am really mad about the camera quality...
You should also know that you won't be having a lot of choices in rom and mode department, if you come from HTC (like me) you will feel a giant hole in Z1 threads...
Speaker is not going to be pleasing in anyway but you should know that this is a waterproof phone, so shouldn't be having high expectations, and finally I don't use cases and this phone really doesn't need one so no worries there

Hi mate
1. We have, for now, just a few custom ROMs, based on CM (PAC) or based on stock which is better solution for now - because we still have camera problem when we unlock bootloader.
And, yes, if you want custom ROM based on CM or anything else except stock you have to unlock bootloader because you have to flash custom kernel and it's possible to flash kernels only when you unlock bootloader.
2. Yes, camera will broke if you unlock bootloader, for now.
But, as you could see, few guys claims that have informations that Sony is already working on it.
Also, what's important is to backup TA numbers before you unlock bootloader.
On custom ROM you can't use X-Reality and you'll lost any chance to get it back even when you go nack to stock - if you haven't backup TA.
You have great tutorials for that.
3. Speaker is good enough.
You have MODs and you don't have to unlock bootloader to flash that MOD.
But headphones that you get with your phone are great - sound is deep and the base is strong and clear.
If you are using professional headphones you'll get even better sound.
4 Absolutely agree with that statement.
Z1 is beautiful device and it would be shame to put "condom" over it.
I bought front and back screen protectors (follies) and just ordered rubber frame for it.
You can buy rubber or metal frame that looks awesome and protect device but your device isn't covered with case and it's perfectly visible.
I would definitely recommed Z1.
I had few Xperia devices (I still have them) and I can say Z1 is the best device I ever had.
Elegant, fast and beautiful.
And....as we are on 4.2.2 and are very, very satisfied, you can just imagine how happy we will be when we get Kitkat for it

Also coming from the HTC One to the Z1 and this is my first Sony, it seemed like the logical choice and it's certainly the best phone for me at the moment anyway, it beats the competition in my eyes.
As for my reaction to the Z1 and it's performance, well i couldn't be happier, i'm not knocking the One, i think it's a fantastic phone and I would still recommend it to anyone.
I'm running a custom rom on my Z1 at the moment, Monx rom and it's superb, i've got CRT off animation and various tweaks by using xposed mod, i'm also running the google launcher from the Nexus 5 and all in all it's a great combination.
Audio, screen, camera, build quality, battery life, functionality and performance are all top notch, well worth the upgrade.
The bootloader isn't an issue as you can still flash custom rom's.

I wasn't very happy with my xperia x10 because of the updates, so I decided to give sony one more try, I come from HTC One to Z1 (Bell C6906), all I can say is very disappointed, the phone is heavy and more bulkier for a 5" screen hard to operate with one hand, speaker is lousy even compared to my old S3, camera is okay but not what it seems to be 20mp, the whites on website is yellowish even with brightness to high compare to the htc with auto brightness (but I don't have the yellow tint on the device) viewing angles are bad I just tilt the phone 10 degress and the color is washed out, I have to look at the device straight on, I keep my htc one any day over the z1, waterproof is just another gimmick, the phone software/hardware is buggy, it reboots randomly and I was on my 2 DOA replacement, finally sold the Z1 I hope sony can learn from their mistakes and make a better device on their next flagship but for now im staying away from their device because all those problems

The Z1 is a stellar phone, the only problem at the moment is development, however once the camera / bootlock issue is fixed i believe that will turn around, don't get me wrong i loved my HTC, but you really can't compare a last gen phone to a next gen phone and that's what these two are, regardless of how old they are, the 800 is the newest hardware available and if you want to compare it to another device then you should only compare it to another 800 (note 3 and G2) pitting it against the HTC One is a little like bringing a knife to a gun fight, it's going to lose.
As for the screen, I have to agree with you in terms of visibility, but then again i don't hold my phone on a slant when i use it so hardly anything to write home about.
As for the Camera, there is a manual mode so I suggest you look into using that properly before you judge it, simply using the automatic option is going to give you an 8MP picture with lots of features turned on to make it look as good as possible, hardly something a person with knowledge of a decent camera would do.
The bugs you mentioned are literally software issues which will be ironed out with further updates and as i said before once the camera / bootlock issue is sorted i have every confidence that they will be rectified.
As for the bulkiness, i actually like the size, i do have quite big hands so i guess it fits me, I did use the phone in the shop before i bought it so i knew it would work ok, i guess you should have done the same before commiting, bit of a rookie mistake in all fairness.
The speaker is a bit of a come down from the HTC One's boom sound speakers but in terms of loudness and with active equalizers on both, i think you'll find that the Z1's speaker isn't half bad and with them both playing infront of me you could hear both, the HTC didn't exactly drown out the sound of the Z1 so again I believe you should spend a little time tweaking your phone to get the most out of it.
The yellowish tint you describe I actually can't say that I have noticed it, but it's possible that your eyes are playing tricks on you as you've come from one screen to another entirely, check out an s3 compared to the HTC One and you'll see that the One appears to be washed out, but this is just a different screen, not worse or better, different people like different things.
Anyway, none of this matters because by all accounts you've sold your phone now, I just find it strange that you would go out and buy one and then find out all the things that you could have summarized in a shop ?
Either way, good luck with whatever phone you pick next, for me and a lot of others, the Z1 is the best of the bunch at the moment, so it's either Samsung's note 3 or the G2, and I do believe that both of those phones aren't without issues and definitely a pair of large phones if using it with one hand was an issue on the Z1.
PS: Lastly, the water proof casing for me is superb, I can use the phone in the rain (i live in the UK) for me it's a great feature and not a gimmick as you say, the last thing you need is something going wrong with your phone, only for the company to tell you it's water damaged even though you have never got the bugger wet before.
Just my two cents.

In real life everyday use you don't notice a huge difference between snapdragon 800 to 600 speed unless you are a benchmark freak, The HTC One doesn't washed out compared to the S3, you can notice the display on the HTC one a lot whiter and more sharper than the S3, I still have both devices maybe u are a defective One? I have tried the camera in 20mp manual mode play around w the ISO and EV setting I still think its not a 20mp camera phone more of a 13, i was able to test the g2 is felt nicely in a single hand use but is the power and volume key in the back is just not so good, I wish I could try the Z1 device here in Canada I went to many shops they don't even have a demo display if they did I would've tested it before I commited buy. As you can read in the forum not everyone z1 device is waterproof when its submerged in water and why a company dont cover water damage on their warranty, if a device is certified waterproof why not warranty it, I'm not saying Z1 is a bad device but the viewing angle is just deal breaker for me since my phone mostly on a table at work I don't always hold the device dead on
I'm personally using a One and bought my wife a Z1. The Z1 is pretty snappy but the screen viewing angles (while sharing video with someone) and sound is a disappointment compared to the One. The water proofing is top notch (tested thoroughly because of the 6 month accidental damage warranty). Anyone invested in the HTC Sense experience will face a few issues initially especially with migrating from the excellent contacts/ phone application in Sense phones. My wife is now using a purchased app to manage her contacts, ex-dialer or something. Z1's running stock rooted with Xposed.
And like others have already pointed out, ROM dev is pretty scarce on the Z1.
Try the 4.4 launcher and other apps on the z1, simply brilliant.
The OK Google voice activation is quality, works perfect an i've even got a scouse accent.

Thanks Btw Another Question That Ok Google Thing (Whatever We Call) Can i Run This In My Another Cell ?

HTC One, G2 or Z1 ?

I would go for the G2 defiinitely dissapointed with my Xperia Z1 that is already dead the cam sucked the battery too
Thank you, i think i will buy the G2, but i will wait for others opinion
I have owned all of them and I would definitely go with the HTC One
G2 is great but its camera is utterly useless indoors
I note, thank you
I think it`s obvious) Buy G2 if you need more perfomance. It`s newer, it has Snapdragon 800 instead of S 600 *My old Xperia Z and Z1 have a noticeable difference in perfomance*, but if you more interested in fine photos and good sound from the speaker - One is your choice. Definitly not many people will recommend Z1 because of its software and hardware problems

for your use, either of the Phones you listed would be fine.
HTC one is probably a better buy as it will save you a bit of money, and the camera Performance is pretty good too.

every phone software has buggs and improvements to be made, that's why Updates are released,
stock 4.2.2 14.1.G.2.257 Rom runs fine
as for Hardware issues like touchscreen problems etc that seems to be a manufacturing defect, again I haven't got any such issues.
Z1!
Owned all 3.
Having had the One and the Z1 I actually prefer the One but in terms of performance the Z1 smokes the One, that might not matter to you but it did to me.
To answer your question though, if you can handle the size and most people can after a few weeks, I would go with the Note 3, it smokes everything out at the moment in terms of performance and it's camera is brilliant.
Can't say I've ever liked LG, my last one was a viewty
I will choose z1 or note 3.Lg has poor design and software update.HTC one has weeker hardware.I have z1 and no touch screens issue
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk
I had the same three options in mind. But Went With Z1
HTC One-Good Camera,But At Last Resolution Matters (In My Opinion)
G2-Excellent Device Flawed Due To Limited Storage.
Ps.They both have IR Blaster which is awesome addition, but unfortunately absent in Z1
So In My Opinion,Z1 :good:

I had HTC One. Pretty decent phone, worked like a charm, premium build quality and speakers were amazing!
After that I switched to Z1 (no reason, I just and a opportunity) and this phone is even better.
I love the slim design, the waterproof ability and the battery. Oh my, the battery is just amazing, no other phone could last this long after gaming sessions.
I did not have a chance to see G2 but I don't really like the buttons and I had N4 before, it was a very good phone, only problem was a battery again.
It is up to you, I would go for a Sony device.
For me z1 works like a charm and battery is really long lasting....
And interms of built quality...mind you...the shatterproof screen really works...not even a single scratch...

I will considering HTC One Max a good challenger o Z1.
Thank you very much all, i've tested the Z1 in a store just 30 seconds, and i was REALLY blufed by the smooth of the phone, it's incredible, the G2 and the One aren't available for testing.. Thank you all
As a person with a one, I'd pick a note 3, z1, or g2 over this. I love my one but I'd rather have something different.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Htc one feels better works a charm, sound amazing. Ui best.
G2 crap interface, lags
Z1 camera and premium build,, ui ok.
Owned a z1 and denitely switching to HTC's next flagship or HTC One. Aftersales of Sony is horrible but all in all Z1 is really good (if not for the touchscreen problem)
Z1 has a better camera, processor and battery. Good looks plus the water and dust resistance. While the One has good speakers and better display.
The G2 beats or matches the Z1 in almost every way, except SD slot and waterproofing of course. HTC One is slower than the G2. The One is thinner and the camera might be better (really it's just individual taste) but the battery is complete crap compared to G2.
Buy Z1 but you should testing carefully, It have some problem with Yellow Screen, Touchscreen, camera flash when use in darkness, If you can find one without those problem, get it and you will happy with the Z1

Z1 good enough.? What u think

A good idea to start is to use google and youtube to search. I just did it, took around 6 seconds and found many results.
I did that already
Its not a big deal to see what others thought and if they satisfied with there z1
I think Z1 is better than M8, I dont talk about the hardware, I talk about the experience
I personnaly don't like the HTC UI, it's a lot heavier than sony's and it's weirdly placed (compared to Google Experience or even sony's).
Overall, I think the Sony's UI is intuitive and clean, closer to a stock Google Experience.
I haven't had any first hand experience with M8, just felt it in hand at a service provider's stand, and I quite don't like it. It has a pretty weird length/width ratio, making it look elongated, and not wide enough. Plus, just like fellow posters mentioned it, HTC Sense UI doesn't make much sense to me, so to speak.
As for Z1, it looks just as classy (if not more so), cleaner and lighter UI, blazingly fast, better camera. Not to mention battery life. Have been happily using this Z1 since last November, best smartphone I've had so far.
So, in my opinion, go for Z1.
if you drive and use navigation app alot, stay away from z1, or probably from android. this sh*t can't even run a navigation + music player through bluetooth at the same time for 1 or 2 hours. reinstalling the firmware doesn't help. huge joke for this much hardware specs... as a driver who has to drive at long distances, i really regret getting the z1, or android... even my 3 years old nokia n8 can do a better job, seriously. so much for android's failed multitasking

I am sorry you have such problems, which, honestly I have never experienced. And, yes, I have been using navigation on the Z1, and the music player at the same time. Haven't had any problems on JB, and no problems on KK.
Perhaps you should use a GPS dedicated unit for long distances (I have got a Becker Ready 50, for that matter) although I have used the Z1's navigation for the past 6 months, with no problems whatsoever.
So going on like this will not help the OP, since both phones he mentioned run on Android, and both use the same Bluetooth protocols and also same Google Maps navigation system. But since you mentioned that Nokia N8, well, maybe he should reconsider then.

actually... the problem was that if i drive about 1 hour, the navigation and walkman player will just shut off by themselves, no force close window, nothing... even if they won't shut off by themselves, sometimes they are stuttered and laggy... same thing will happen even if you only use navigation... there is no problem if you are using the navigation for short distances but it's quite dangerous when that problem actually happens on the road.
don't go get N8, i was just saying. the app quality and quantity are too horrible. if OP really only wants to choose between these two, then definitely Z1 (camera), although it won't be a mistake to choose M8 (build quality). but if OP relies heavily on navigation like me, then go get a Lumia.
For everything other than camera and waterproofing, go for m8.
The screen, speakers, sound, etc are light years ahead.
Also way way more development

I have had a chance to compare the Z2 camera (the same module) against the One M8. Here is a detailed comparison:
The question is .... why are you comparing Z1 to one M8 instead of the Xperia Z2?
I have tested all three and the question is what you are looking for in the phone. Camera-wise there is no match to Xperias in terms of quality of pictures.
Xperia Z1:
+ Camera
+ IP Rating
- Not an IPS panel = poor viewing angles
- Shatterproof film on the screen with imprinted Sony logo
- Poor speakers
-/+ Blocky Design
- No IR Sensor or podometer
One M8:
+ Awesome Speakers and audio quality both on headphones as well as speakerphone and speakers
+ Very comfortable rounded design (slightly big bezels)
+ Better screen than that on Z1
+ IR Sensor + Podometer
- The body scratches easily
- No IP rating
Xperia Z2
A lot of things that were wrong with Z1 have been fixed in Z2 :good::
+ IPS Display
+ Front-facing stereo speakers (no match for M8 as they have waterproofing but still better than most competition)
+ Noise-cancelling headset
+ 5.2 inch display with better screen to body ratio (almost same size as Z1)
+/- Blocky Design
- No IR sensor or podometer
Thx for this review,
I didnt go for Z2 cuz it is big on hand.
I didnt try it by my self and I didnt know the z1 had thos problem while Z2 dont ?
Will consider it from now on
Thanks for this information

That's right M8 pics are better and has more quality than Z1, but Z1 hardware is better
Sony UI is not so heavy to use most spaces of the Ram
Z1 is heavier and can take more damages, even it's water resistance and you can safely take it in water and take pics
