[Q] T-Mobile-Sony XperiaZ1s - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have q quick question? I ordered the T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z1s and had it shipped express mail so I should have the phone tomorrow. However, I wanted to know if it was safe to use the Xperia Z1 method to root the phone, and use the same Roms on the Xperia Z1s?

I am also curious of this. I have put in a request for a forum specific to this device and regional carrier. I don't know if that usually works or how long it takes but I am looking to contribute in any way possible.

Rooting shouldn't really be unsafe or anything, but at the moment I don't think it'll work, as the Z1S is on 4.3 after all, and I don't think that Vroot will work with it now. As for roms, I would advise against flashing anything at the moment.

Once theres an initial root you should be able to back up your TA partition and subsequently unlock bootloader to root any future firmwares, relocking bootloader after rooting.

Unfortunately we will likely face a bootloader that cannot be unlocked.
However, if it can I am very curious as to how you go about this.
I absolutely hate taking updates... still haven't taken an update from months ago on my Nexus 7 because I will lose root. It was very difficult to unlock and root my nexus 7, considerably more than rooting my old carrier tied motorola handset, which I didn't expect at all considering I'd used all the same tools to flash and root before.

The nexus 7 is one of the easiest devices to root. It may have been difficult when the device was first released, but I promise it's gotten much easier.

I think it may have been more that my desktop wasn't properly recognizing the device. Had to jump through all sorts of hoops to get it to work last February. But it's unlocked and rooted now... with an outdated OS. I currently don't have internet service at home. I'll tackle the update and re-root when I've got a nice fast connection.
Would taking the update affect ever re-lock the bootloader?

I don't think so, the bootloader on my N7 has never locked itself unless I used wugfresh's toolkit to do so.

It isn't, the Z1S has a plastic frame instead of aluminium, it's larger, and has different LTE frequencies to the C6903 (International LTE Z1).

I am aware it has the same screen, I was referring to the Z1S being taller than the C6903, regardless of screen size.
And what would a metal frame have to do with bending? Obviously if you apply so much force that you bend the device, then you're already damaging it, whether it has a metal or a plastic frame...

It seems to me like cheap aluminum was the cause of bending. I've never had any bending/cracking issues on any of my plastic phones I owned.

The heat could cause bending. Anyway, since you are an owner of Z1, how would you rate your device at this point? Thinking about getting Z1S for my wife.

Best smartphone I have ever had, literally. Though if I'd been on the market right now I'd have had the Z1 Compact.
Only thing bad with it would be the screen quality (no issues head on, but tilt it and colours start to wash out) and maybe the loudspeaker being a bit tinny/quiet (product of the waterproofing would be my guess).

I really hope it ends up on AT&T.
I have loved my Samsung Captivate but, I've been reading that the S3 has had some hitches in terms of custom rom support.
I still haven't found a particularly good review for the Xperia T though..
Engadget said it wasn't "new enough" in the title of their article but, besides "feeling bulky in hand" they couldn't find a single thing wrong with it...

I Hate the way At&T Slapped Their Logo ... on the Bottom , it looks fugly
I heard about the rumors about AT&T USA releasing this phone, and also T-Mobile USA.
I'm currently with T-Mobile USA. Now even if the rumors is true, I don't really planning on buy it branded. not a fan. especially of the logo on the phone. However if I did buy it unlocked, will I be able to add carrier-specific features/service/apps? mainly Wi-fi calling.
I may switch to AT&T and if I can do the same that that would be great.
I just wonder if it's possible. have XDA done something like that, extracting those apps to add to unlocked phones?

With the Sony phones its been possible to flash the generic International firmware on the AT&T devices and visaversa so you can choose which firmware you want. Should be the same with the Xperia T
So will the white version ever be offerred from AT&T and will there be an option for the plastic back?

Hmm... If "coming weeks" is indeed "first week in November" - darn, that's a bit disappointing. Was hoping to try and get a CM bringup started before the Big Android BBQ.
You seem to have inside information from AT&T - Are they going to play the same bootloader unlock-blocking shenanigans they did with the HOX, or will this device have an unlockable bootloader just like the international T?

Looking to purchase xperia z1

What's up everyone! I will be out of my stupid Verizon contract in the next 7 days. I really like the xperia z1 and looking to move over to T-Mobile. I've seen two models available for US the 6903/6906. I found the unlocked 6903 on eBay for about $590 will it be able to get LTE on T-Mobile (Florida area) with no issues? Sony website has it for $630 and I believe that is the 6906? Been trying to wait and see if T-Mobile releases the xperia z1 but they are taking forever!
This is the first time I will be buying an unlocked phone out of contract so I want to make sure I get the right device. Any advice would be greatly appreciated :good:
Beware of the screen lottery. There's many different displays with the z1
Sent from my C6906
geez stop talking about the display, yeah the viewing angles are not that good, and white balance in some is out, but color and picture reproduction is awesome.
The 6903 works with Tmobile iirc in some bands and it doesnt work on ATT but the 6906 works flawlesly on the USA if i remember correctly.

The Z1 is an awesome phone, with great potential, only if Sony fixed the goddamn BIONZ/DRM loss/unlock bootloader/non-working camera issue before the end of 2013..
I am not owning it, have just tested it a couple of minutes and was amazed in the blink of an eye. Buy it, but keep the BL locked until this is fixed by Sony.

[Q] Problems here, problems there, problems everywhere.

Hello.
I have a problem. I want to buy the Z1 but I don’t know if I should.
I already bought the Z1 in November. I was setting it up for about 3 days and then my house was robbed and the phone was stolen. I even not had the chance to use it as a phone…
The insurance company is going to cover the stolen Z1.
In the meanwhile I see all over the internet Z1 yellow washed self-cracked screens, asf that cannot be removed because of warranty and it scratch really bad. Problems with overeating, touch screen sensibility, wifi, etc.
So, was this sad episode some kind of divine intervention or it’s a reasonable choice to buy it again?
I liked the Z1, despite of the internal features, because of the glass and aluminum look. I’m looking also to Samsung s4 and note 3 but they look to plastic for top phones. I like HTC One but only in black which is very hard to find. The 5S is also in my mind. I can discard a large display if the device is ergonomic and pocket jeans friendly.
I need to buy a new phone because my WM HTC HD2 is becoming serious outdated. But for a phone with 4 years of daily use it doesn’t have any scratches in the display or in the back. This guy is tough and never failed me.
Long story short I just don’t want to give a lot of money for a piece of sh… top phone! I just want a phone for the next 4 years.
Thank you all !

I'm an owner of an Xperia Z1 and I must say it is a beutifully designed phone and a superior camera... But then a major problem that I have with it is that touchscreen does NOT work properly. I think you should wait until the 4.3 update comes and see whether the problem is fixed. But I doubt that this is a software problem so better not buy it till the 4.3 update comes and we'll see whether it fixes the problem. Stay tuned to Z1 XDA so you can be sure.
If you even think that Z1 is a piece of sh... top phone, then don't buy it.

He merely stated he is having second thoughts he never said it is a piece of sh*. I feel the same the way I am in the market for a new top end smartphone and I really like the design/features of the Z1 but if you go into the Sony Forums or any other it just seems most users are unhappy and having lots of issues. I understand every smartphone has its own problems but from what I have been reading Sony does not want to acknowledge or fix possible hardware issues that users are facing. This is a very expensive phone and you would expect top notch quality along with service. I will be waiting another month to see what happens before I make my decision.

Or to be more precise some white backgrounds look yellowish wheb compared to other phones(Z ultra, Z or iphone 5)

I would also buy it again.
I must also say that at this moment, i do not have any of the problems stated on this forum (yellow tint, touch screen problem, wi-fi problem).
The major problem that all the z1 users have, is the camera not working with an unlocked bootloader.
But i would still buy it again

My Z1 is on it's way to Sony repair right now because of the touchscreen issue but if I knew that this particular problem could be fixed (or that it occurs just in a certain batch) I would in every circumstance buy the Z1 over any other phone on the market right now.
You'll see people *****ing about every little nitpicky thing in every forum of every device on this website. My Z1 is fine.

I tend to buy phones and sell them on when I get bored with them but I think I'll be keeping the Z1 for a long time. Funny thing is is that I didn't like the Z I had at all.
I also have a Nokia 925 that I love. I have had both the Z1 and 925 since launch and they are both keepers. I have also had a note 2, S4, note 3 and Nokia 1020 this year but sold them all except for the 1020 which I gave to my wife.

Very well said, what I think is that Z1 is an excellent device provided that the unit you get is problem free. It's just a matter of hit or miss for a good device. As a Z1 owner (with the touch problem) yeah it's really annoying if you have this and store refuses to acknowledge the problem and worn't replace the unit. Only hope is that the 4.3 update will fix the problem.
Back to the topic, if you think that your z1 being stolen is a divine intervention to not get the z1 again, it's really up to you. It's a great device with a future proof hardware so if you really want it then get it. Just examine the unit carefully, list down the problems that you have read in the forums and how to check them so that you won't be one of the frustrated users who had problems in their units. I wish you luck mate. :good:

What he said is probably the best advice you can get right now. If working it's an excellent device and whatever you decide, do not order it online.
I'm another one just really happy with the phone. I'm on iHacker 1.2 and combined with Greenify it's runs forever. I mean 3days on Battery, just more than fine. If I would buy it again? Absolutely. Is there really an alternative? LG G2, S4, Note 3 are just plastic wrecks to me. And HTC with this ridiculous S-OFF rubbish, thanks I prefer to wait for a bootloader solution which will come for sure very soon.

Someone said there is a International warranty of 1 year on the device if you have a receipt. I am in the same situation, I do not buy the phone online, I pickup the phone in a small store but in different country in europe. Now if I have to go via warranty I don't know where I have to go.

Bootloader unlock allowed : no - Is there any hope?

Hi guys, I know this has been thousands of times, but if our device doesn't allow boot loader unlock (for example mine is on EE) is there any hope what so ever of a way around this? I'm pretty sure someone is going to say something along the lines of "IT'S IMPOSSIBLE STOP ASKING IT CAN'T BE DONE" - if that's the case, would you care to explain why?
Thanks
Well the answer is not at the moment don't know if anyone is working on it... and from what I saw so far in order to hack it you need to use the test point method but in order to do so you need to open your phone...now are u going to take that risk because I won't haha

HA yeah forget that For a company that supports development as such as Sony apparently does, this is kinda silly.
Is not sonys fault tho is the carrier that wants them locked...pointless again because no average person knows about bootloader locking or rooting yano

I agree. I even rang EE and asked them. They and no clue what I meant. Sad really.
I wonder if you got a letter from EE stating that they allow you to unlock your bootloader and then ask Sony to make your bootloader unlockable will that work lol....I know it will take time and maybe u will waste your time but if you really want to unlock your bootloader is worth a shot haha

At least here in Spain, you can unlock your bootloader if you first pay for the simcode unlock to use the phone with any carrier. Then you can email Sony with this information, asking them to leave your phone in the same condition (bootloader unlockable) as any "unlocked sim" phone (I don't know the correct word, sorry)
Then Sony will take your phone as if it was going to be repaired and after a few days you'll get your phone back.
I know this is possible in Spain but I don't know about other countries; maybe it depends on each law system.

Hmmm. Even so. I think i'll be getting on the new HTC One band wagon when it comes around. I want to like the Z1, but the software is, at least in my opinion, nothing less that horrible. Also the glass front and rear is a disaster if you're a mechanic.

If you are mechanic then the HTC One will be scratched forever with the plastic one. I think on Glass you can use some degreasing.

Just the anti shatter plastic scratched or worse?

Has anyone tried DirtyCow based root method on the GS6 yet?

I did not see anything here, but it might be a bit early. I am curious if anyone has tried it yet? :cyclops:
I'm wondering what's the deal also. You would think we would have had root 24 hours after that video.

Still can't disable SELinux which prevents writing to system. We're a long ways off from a useful root.
So I'm holding on to a Att 64gb s6 for nothing... ?

Even if we ever do get root, it's not likely we'll ever see much development, as all the devs have likely moved on to new hardware long ago.
If you want a root able phone, buy something unlocked that's dev friendly (one plus, nexus, moto z line maybe, zte axon7 maybe). Anything att Branded from here on out will likely be locked down.
