[Q] Replace CWM with TWRP - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear all,
I'm planning to flash CM 11 ROM by Mclaw in the near future. Since Mclaw recommended flashing using TWRP, I have to replace CWM on my stock rooted SGS3 mini. I've searched entire therads for this topic, some said I had to flash TWRP through fastboot (what is fastboot anyway?), and some said that just flashed TWRP using CWM. It will replace CWM with TWRP. All of those methods are meant to be for different device.
Anyone can confirm one of those methods for SGS3 mini? Or is there another method that noob friendly? I'm just too newbie and afraid to bricking my phone. Thanks.

You don't necessarily need TWRP. I can successfully flash that with CWM.

Really? I just want to minimize the risks, since Mclaw studio won't responsible for bricking my phone . Anyone can help me finding the easiest way?

I'm serious. You can just flash it using CWM without problems. The methods and results are practically the same.
Anyway, the easiest way to flash a new recovery is by using ROM Manager from the Play Store.

Just download the zip file for twrp from maclaw's site and flash that zip with your current recovery..

OK, guys. Thanks for the answers. I'll try and see if it works.

you should flash a custom ROM, a custom Kernel, a custom recover.....and after that, reboot to the new recovery and you´ll enjoy it

Hi guys.
I flashed one recovery using another recovery *dozens* of times on other devices (mostly on the galaxy gio) and now I flashed Maclaw's TWRP using CWM on an I8190n and everything is working perfectly.

Depends on what you want to do with your phone, if you are fine with running stock rom, don't change it as there is no need for it.
CWM is useful when you use custom roms (both for the flash process/wipes and backups/restore), stock recovery is useful for nothing at all in that case.
So, IOW, if you don't intend on using custom roms, stick with stock recovery, if you intend on using custom roms, get CWM.
Clockwork mod recovery lets you do things like wipe factory data reset, wipe cache, battery status etc.... and can also install roms from zip files. Stock recovery can't do that. Hope I helped Also clockwork mod only works if you are rooted first I belive.
Does this mean i need to use custom rom to get cmw? Can i use cmw in stock? I dont want to flash any custom rom yet but i need cmw to flash theme? Lol

You can flash CWM and use stock but i have no idea why you would, you can't use backup or restore and you'll have no use for it what so ever.
You never need to flash a theme, you install it via market or downloaded .apk, if it's a custom theme you need a theme manager and you'll download and install themes via that manager.
You do NOT need CWM for anything you are trying to do.

You can use cwm on stock.
However, the great function isn't working on stock.
It means, even if you use cwm on stock, it has no difference with original (stock) recovery.

If you are going to use CWM anyway, might as well use custom rom...

Hi! I have a question. I have the last cmw touch but i cannot do a nandroid backup of the stock rom (2.3.4) because it can't mount system and cache. It's really not possible to make a backup of the stock rom? I'm asking this because i did some modifications like removing preinstalled apps and things like this and a new flash of the rom is not the same for me...

Official CyanogenMod 9 Nightlies

Last we heard, CyanogenMod 9's interaction with the Galaxy Tab 10.1 line was limited to the variants shackled either to T-Mobile or to WiFi. However, the CM team has been hard at work, and as of yesterday, the following three editions of the 10-inch tablet have been granted access to the CM nightly kingdom: Verizon's Galaxy Tab 10.1 (SCH-I905)
Unlocked WiFi + 3G Galaxy Tab 10.1 (GT-P7500)
Galaxy Tab 10.1v (GT-P7100)

Flash pershoot's recovery from http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=2487 first. Make sure to download the P3 version
Optionally and recomended: Flash latest pershoot's kernel from http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/
Ok but if i flash my gtab, the camera works??
Thanks
So it begins...
I think we can't be more grateful to pershoot (and also isi, seo and the others 10.1v dev) to make it possible. Without them, we could only have dreamed to see our tab updated at all. Now we'll have almost daily updates...

No. I think it's based on isi and pershoot work, so the only changes probably will be more CM9 settings
I wonder if any of these are any more stable than the latest from the usual sources that pershoot has been giving us so far. I know it's based on his and Isi's work so I am just wondering

The file can't be flashed with odin.
It has to be flashed through cwm, but first you have to unlock your bootloader and aquire root.
Unlock your bootloader with this tut.

Get root via this....

[Q] Installing JellyMod

I apologies If I'm posting in the wrong section, I literally just signed up. I've rooted my device and have got the jellymod file downloaded, however I've looked at some tutorials (couldn't find one specifically for I9070) and they say to use ROM manager with clockwork mod however it seems my model isn't supported so I'm quite stuck, help please!

Do NOT use rom manager...can result in a brick. After you've rooted, install a custom kernel with custom recovery and then just flash the jellymod using custom recovery after placing it in the ext sd card..
Follow this guide

Go with CoCore..the same which is in the guide.. i believe that is 5.0 version.. you can update it later to 5.6 or 6.0 if you want to..
Edit- the link is to the main cocore thread.. so you can go ahead and install the latest i.e 6.0 with either twrp or cwm recovery..

You need to flash a 2.3.6 ROM, then get cwm (custom kernel) then flash cm10.1 three times. First time you flash it, you will get an error so don't worry.

Flash 2.3.6, root it using a custom kernel.
But install CM9 first and let it boot before flashing CM10.1 three times. Just to make sure you don't lose your IMEI.

The lost IMEI "bug" is fixed. Even if he does lose it, the .zip backs it up onto the sdcard and he can simply copy that folder (Efs) to the root of his phone.
