[Q] Enable Native Bluetooth Tethering - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a family share plan w/ AT&T with tethering enabled; however, while WiFi and USB is available, bluetooth is not visible. I've been searching every where and haven't seen a solution for the AT&T Note 3 yet, but I did come across this thread for the S4 that uses a modified framework.res.apk file
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47140596&postcount=1
From what I can tell from the script, couldn't this be ported to the AT&T Note 3 build?
Any thoughts?

I'm using PdaNet+ to BT tether internet to my Galaxy Gear. Gear uses PdaNet. I am running stock.

AT&T removed BT tethering, tried porting it over awhile ago but could never get it to work. Flash an Int'l ROM like X Note or wait for someone to actually mod it to work.
Edit: or follow the above and download an app that let's you tether through Bluetooth. They aren't going to be as battery friendly but a lot less of a hassle than flashing ROMs.

Thanks... I have been able to decompile and edit the framework-res.apk file on MJ5 to get the Bluetooth Tether option to show up and be able to be selected but the issue I am running into now is that it doesn't seem to broadcast the appropriate Bluetooth profiles. More to come.

We be great if you could get this to work!

...so I gave up for the time being and installed the AT&T port of XNote via SafeStrap because I couldn't find enough information on how to enable the missing BT stack. Will likely revisit at some point. Thanks!

[MOD]Add Wifi Calling for froyo based roms (T-Mobile only)

T-Mobile offers a service of using Wifi to send/receive calls rather than the cellular service. It costs minutes for Pay-as-you-go folks, but is free if you have a plan (at least in the US). The feature shows up as 'Wifi Calling' and automatically updates if you have a Wifi connection. It is really handy if yo have poor cellular reception.
There have been various P509-specific roms here with Wifi-Calling, but they were either based on T-Mobile's 2.2.2 whose performance sucked, or they didn't work for me.
Here is a flashable zip (signed) which should work in amonra and CWM, to add the relevant files and properties to any 2.2 based rom for a P500.
I've been using it on devoid with no issues.
It probably won't work on a gingerbread rom
It definitely won't work if your provider isn't T-Mobile
You should be able to install the zip and be good to go.
For reference these are the manual steps I used to get it working:
install:
system/apps/Kineto.apk
system/lib/libganril.so
system/lib/libkineto.so
system/lib/librilswitch.so
Add this to the end of build.prop
Code:
rild.libpath=/system/lib/librilswitch.so
rilswitch.vendorlibpath=/system/lib/libril-qc-1.so
rilswitch.ganlibpath=/system/lib/libganril.so
None of this is difficult, but finding all the bits and pieces took some time, and the error messages from logcat are next to worthless as far as debugging goes.
The zip does a crude hack to modify build.prop, so you should only install this once per ROM (i.e. install after reflashing a ROM, not if flashing a kernel or another mod).
I originally started this as a question in the general forum, but now that we have a solution, I was advised it probably belongs here. If them mods disagree, please feel free to delete this or that thread:

Will we need to wait until T-Mobile releases 2.3 for this to work on gb?

I haven't tried it yet, so I don't know for sure, but my guess is that we will need different shared-libraries to deal with the updated 2.3 baseband. So my expectation is that we either need to wait for a 2.3update from T-Mobile, or to maybe find anothe LG phone with the same baseband that we could grab the shared-libs from.
Works perfect on devoid froyo final

I've been trying to get TMO wifi calling working all day for my HTC HD2. I'm running a completely stock Desire HD ROM port = Android 2.2.1 w/ Sense 2.1 (CMYLXGO's). Is this ONLY going to work on a P500 or will this work on any 2.2.1 Froyo build?
OK - so I went ahead and flashed it from CWM and it all appeared to go smoothly. It installed and the app is there, but it just sits on "Enabling" once I turn the app on. I've verified that:
1. The three "*.so" files are in the "system/lib" folder
2. The build.prop file was appended and the appropriate code was added to the very end of the build.prop file
But still no love. Any thoughts/help??
For reference, I've tried a newer Gingerbread ROM and the associated TMO Wifi Calling app that's been documented to work and I have WiFi Calling working in that scenario. So I know I have correct setup (right SIM, etc...). The problem is I'm not a huge fan of that ROM and I'd really like to get it working w/ Froyo 2.2.1... Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
thnx

no. you need to find a gingerbread version. I know there was one in the development section, but it's been taken down.
If anyone has one, please post!
I am looking for this as well for CM7 for my girlfriend when she leaves to study abroad.
I just read this thread....
Can someone help clarify if the .zip file in this thread is the standalone Wifi Calling app or it's a ROM that I need to reflash to my phone in order to use the hacked Wifi Calling app?
I rather not reflash, prefer to stay with the official Android 2.2.2 from T-mobile, so any advice for installing the hacked Wifi Calling app alone is most appreciated.
Thanks! My phone's the Optimus T (P509).

Is this app working?
Ok. I downloaded this hacked Wifi Calling app to my phone (T-mo Optimus T P509 - Android 2.2.2 official / stock)
It unzipped, and presumably placed the files where they needed to go. Rebooted the phone.
I then checked my prepaid balance, and noted it.
Next I made sure Wifi is on and connected. Wifi Calling "blue logo" is also lit up. I used the browser to make sure internet is working on Wifi. All good.
One extra thing I did manually:
I noticed the "Use only 2G networks" setting under "Mobile network settings" is set for 2G and I "UNCHECKED" it. Not sure if causes any anomalies to the Wifi Calling hacked app.
My prepaid balance got reduced after my test call. What's going on?

Alright then. It was my mis-understanding.
I originally thought this modified Wifi Calling app would allow Prepaid users the benefit of free calls when Wifi is present.

I believe this used to be true for those who were on monthly subscription plans, but from what I've heard, it uses minutes for prepaid users.
There are still benefits though, with the main one being better signal coverage. I have also heard that if you are overseas and you use Wi-fi calling to a US number, you will still be charged at the normal domestic rate instead of paying international roaming.
Do we know if there is a version of this out for Android 2.3 yet?

[Q] Using HID bluetooth on Sprint SPH-P100

I was about to buy a bluetooth keyboard case for my tab, but i saw that HID devices were not working on Sprint and Verizon tabs.
I only use wifi so I am not attached to the base image or cdma in any way. Is the HID disabled in a manner that prevents this from being enabled on this model with custom kernel or rom?
I did a cursory search of HID and bluetooth and my model number and I could not find any threads.
The Verizon Tab Bluetooth was updated with the EC02 build. It now has HID enabled for most devices.
As far as I understand, Sprint has not yet sent out a similar update.
I know that at one time Boushh was working on building a new CDMA kernel that would integrate the HID files from the Verizon update. Unfortunately, I have not seen any updates to that project in about two months. You could certainly try the last version he released. Here's the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=941781
At this moment I don't think anyone else is working on a new CDMA kernel other than the HoneyComb stuff Spacemoose is working on.
bummertown. thanks for the response though.

[Q] Share internet through bluetooth to Galaxy Tab p1010

Hi, I'm buying a Galaxy S 5.0, and like the Galaxy Tab p1010, he don't have 3G, or SIM card. With the Galaxy Tab p1010 can I use a phone with 3G and bluetooth to share internet ? I had a nokia n800 and I was able to do this very easy.
Sorry for my english.
Thanks
Hi rapha lira.
Same as mine.
I also has GT-P1010 and also nokia n900
Don't expect to much with wifi, because it doesn't support ad-hoc networking even you install joikuspot.
neither also with bluetooth.because samsung has use their own bluetooth stack that doesn't support DUN and PAN because my nokia n900 has already support dun and pan.
the only choice is buy 3g modem with wifi infradtructure support.
right now,I am going to hack and replace bluetooth stack samsung with bluez linux universal, hopely can
Sent from my GT-P1010 using Tapatalk
hum, so the only way to connect to internet is with teether, this is sucks, drain the battery very quickly.
But thank you, I will have to live with that.... Miss my n800, the best tablet, It's a shame that nokia is so dumb to kill maemo, and meego, and symbian, and now making a partnership with microsfot...
Hey! I found this thread when looking for a solution to my problem, but unfortunately this thread does not answer my question, however I maybe able to assist in your situation.
Depending on what phone you currently have (if it's a Nokia smartphone; including s60v3 and v5), you maybe able to tether your 3G/HSDPA for your Galaxy S 5.0. To do this, download and install JoikuSpot on your Nokia (JoikuSpot Premium recommend, to password protect your network). This software will allow you to tether your 3G/HSDPA from your smartphone via an ad-hoc network; the software will create an ad-hoc network.
Unfortunately as the 'Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 5.0' runs on Android, it does not support ad-hoc networks; therefore the network you have created from your Nokia is not detected. However to over come this obstacle, you will need to root and apply a specific patch for Android, which will allow ad-hoc network communication; this will then allow your Samsung Galaxy 5 to connect to your Nokia's 3G/HSDPA.
The patch has been developed by XDA forum member blackplatypus, which you may find here: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/android-ad-hoc-wireless-network-support/
After doing everything above, your problem should be solved!
Enjoy.
.. now, I'm going back to look for a solution to my problem.
Its a good option, but my galaxy have gingerbread 2.3.5 and I cant root him. But thank you, hope you find a solution.
I know this is a little old but I am trying to get this to work..
I am able to get my Tmobile G2X to teether through Bluetooth with my Asus Transformer (3.2 OS) but cannot get my Tab to do the same.. It would be awesome if I could get to work because WIFI teethering kills my battery fast..

[Q] Tethering on 4.3 HTC One Google Play Edition

After updating to the 4.3 OTA update on my HTC One (originally Sense, but converted over), I can no longer use tethering on the device. The OTA update when through by itself and didn't require me to flash the ROM manually.
Other devices will connect to the HTC One's Wi-Fi connection perfectly fine, but can't access the internet. It was working fine before the update and I do have tethering on my Fido cell plan (I tried the sim in an iPhone 5 and the tethering works fine). All of the APN settings are the same from before the update. I've tried different APNs, but that hasn't worked either.
Anybody else seeing this issue with either their genuine Google Play edition or converted Sense HTC One running 4.3?

I'm on Rogers and it's working just fine for me. It's a converted HTC One by the way. I'm not running a true GE ROM. But it's a custom GE ROM. Sinless 3.1 To be exact.
I did have the exact problem you speak of before though. I simply wiped out all tethering settings and re did them. I've also switched to Bluetooth tethering instead. Seems to work a little better for me than the WiFi hotspot.

I've got an issue with tethering, nothing I do seems to work. It works on 4.2.2 though
I just posted this in the general GE talk, but I can't use my WiFi after using the native tethering.. its like the native program isn't restarting the WiFi drivers properly

Unfortunately, both Bluetooth and USB tethering don't work either.
Scratch that! Crazy. Last night I was tethering and right while I was Bluetooth tethering it just stopped. After an hour. And now I can't ever get it to work again. I guess I'm joining in the crowd that can't.

I'm unfortunately in the same boat. If I slap the SIM card in my other phones it can tether effectively, I'm guessing something changed in 4.3?

I just thought its crazy it was working for an hour and then all the sudden it stopped. I even pulled a logcat of when it doesn't work it and the dev can't see anything wrong. I'll even attach the logcat here to see if anyone can find anything. You'll have to look for the tethering labelled sections unfortunately i didn't trim it down.

I don't think you're crazy. I believe it's specifically to do with tethering while on LTE. I have it working on 3G/H+ without a problem

I couldn't get it working for either. I typically only use H+ and shut off my LTE. There is a fix though for this.

Need Help Disabling Bluetooth Hotspot

Does anyone know of a way to bypass the Sprint lock on tethering via wifi or bluetooth? I've searched high and low, and cab't find anything that will work with a stock rom. I'm running the latest update from Sprint, 5.03.651.3. I've looked high and low, and everything I seem to find is no longer in use. I remember I had an HTC One about a year ago and didn't have any issues. I had found a flashable zip file that bypassed the bluetooth tether.
I successfully rooted yesterday and am using TWRP 2.6.3. All of the info I can find is from 2 years ago, and mentions foxfi, or various other tethers, however, I've tried all of them and none will work. I'm assuming Sprint blocked the use during the latest upgrade.
I really want to stick with the sense stock rom, because I've gotten use to it, however, I've got a Parrot Android car stereo, and really need to have the ability to bluetooth tether to be able to use apps on the go.
If it won't be possible to tether using the original Rom, could someone please let me know a similar Rom that would work with the Sprint HTC One M7wls?
Thanks in advance!
