[Q] how to install cwm recovery on i9000 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Help! I can't figure out how to install cwm on my sgs i9000! I have root, and used rom manager to get the proper update.zip, but when I try flashing the zip I get an error message saying that the signature verification failed, or something like that. I read on Google that the problem is that I'm on 3e recovery and that I need to be in 2e, is that accurate, and if so, what do I do about it? Help on this would be much appreciated. Thanks!

weeeell, with over 150 views, one would think someone would know the answer...
anyway, i solved it myself by flashing cf root, which has clockworkmod built in.

most likely you posted it in the wrong forum, if you had visited the i9000 forum you will find it in sticky threads as well as a simple search would have given you the answer see [Tutorial] How to Unbrick, Flash, Downgrade, Root, Update i9000 from Froyo to Kit Kat
so use the search for fast answers.

Where do u get DXJP8?
If this DXJP8 is real, please upload to somewhere for sharing because it seem to be the updatest version.
Official Asia Froyo?
is DXJP8 the official Asia Froyo updates that we are going to get next week?
Ahh. Jp8 has installed 3e recovery mode bootloader. The way people bypass that for jpm is to flash a rooted kernel via odin which also restores 2e recovery. You need to hunt down a jp8 root kernel.

I'll try to ask my friend if she can share it for us. I'm kinda satisfy with this ROM. The Lag is kinda better, but not fully fixed yet. The Quadrant test result is around 985

Help with rooting for 2.1 update1

i just need some guidance in rooting.
I have adb and htc sync setup... is it possible for me to use this guide here to root?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
The forum says its for 2.1, but the phone i'm trying to root has 2.1 update1. Would this work on it? Someone please confirm if it has worked for you, or if you know it would work.
Let me know if you need anymore information about the phone software.
If your build number matches the one mentioned in the post, you should be able to. If not, please refer to the posts in the Hero CDMA wiki page.
ok so this is the Build Number that I have 2.32.651.2. Could someone point me to a root for this build? Do i need to revert back to an older version to do this?
This should be easy to root with z4mod root right? What is the difference between temporary and permanant root? Which one would be advisable to choose.
Also after rooting and installing clockwork Mod recovery, and if I want to flash the cyanogen ROM, do i have to flash the Radio and/or Kernal separately, or does it comes together with the ROM?
I'm not exactly sure what the radio is, i have a vibrant and never had to deal with flashing radios or the like, so some info on that would be nice. Thank You very much
Go to the wiki... you will find all information required... you need to READ!

Difference Is:
Temp.Root= Only Rooted Until You Reboot Your Device!!
Perm.Root= Always Rooted, And SU Permissions Placed In System/Bin!!
Also With Cyanogen, All You Have To Do Is Flash The Rom/Gapps, If You Have A Issue With The Kernel, Then You Could Look Into Flashing
A Radio/Kernel!!
Hope This Helps!!

Shpits Xgin Rom

Okay my question is.
You see this rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1135343
It says i need Clockwork Mod recovery.
What will happen if i install the rom with Xrecovery?
Because honestly, i have no idea how to install CWM.
Also. Since i am running on Froyobread 23b atm. It is built in with dual recovery.
can i use the CWM built into this rom to install XGin?
Thank you for any help.
Chances are pretty good that you will end up in a boot-loop if a pre-/post-installation script isn't executed properly or permissions aren't setup correctly (the scripting language of CWM isn't compatible with xRecovery).
Simply get the x8toolbox out of the development section to install CWM or find nobodyAtall's CWM Recovery 3.2.0.0 thread and install it ... it's not that hard to do.
Of course you can try to flash with xRecovery, but if you're stuck in a boot loop prepare yourself to restore the Stock ROM through SEUS or Flashtool and go from there again.
Thanks for the quick reply, but i still don't get it. =/
EDIT :How do i install CWM without replacing Xrecovery?
and if i do replace Xrecovery, what happens to the roms that need xrecovery to install?
Help..T_T

Yes, it should be safe to install the ROM through Froyobread's CWM IF it reports itself as version 3.2.0.0 or later (can't recall what CWM version Froyobread had - just reboot into CWM and look at the top/right corner where it displays the version number).
it says "Clockwork Mod v3.2.0.0-r2 x10mini"
And then the options.
Then right at the end it says
"FATAl:Couldn't generate a valid backup for the current recovery"
Whats that!?
Never saw that error message in CWM ...
Either post the question here - though there's already one post in there (page 13, post #122) about that problem but unanswered - or ask in shpit's thread about advise before you try to flash.
Flash?
I don't want to flash it..
Doesn't flash mean to make the rom the default?
Or is it another way of saying INSTALL?
Yes, Flash/Flashing means "writing the contents of the update ZIP into the NAND memory (=ROM) of your phone" - you can of course also put it as "installing the new ROM".
Like I said, I would ask about the error message you got from CWM before trying to flash/install the xGin ROM.
Maybe, and I'm guessing here, it's related to some incompatible version of busybox or su.
Edit: If you need to increase your posts to '10' so you can post in the developer section just add 4 more posts to this thread and then head over to the dev section and post your question in the xGin thread.
You know what, Nevermind.
Cos i really don't understand this.
at all.
Im using 1.15..i think..of BusyBox.
and I updated SU today through Android Market.

That could be the problem ... a version of the su binary that is too new OR is buggy (I read somewhere that su 3.0.2(?) had a problem and manual upgrade to 3.0.6 was advised)
I appreciate that link.
thanks.
+
Superuser v3.0.6 (40)
SU binary v3.0.03
Those are the current version i have right now.

Did you even read the sticky? If its still no rooted, try flashing a new stock rom via Odin and try rooting it again using the method mentioned in the sticky. Just in case you didn't understand what I'm rambling about here...the magic word of the day for you is.... 'STICKY'.
????????
No idea what u r rambling about .... no idea what u mean by STICKY, but i am new to the mobile chatter.
but i read the instructions yes .... and they seem to work with some phones and not with others ...
they do not work with mine and that's why i asked was there any root instructions that will work on 2.3.4 galaxy ace (DDKQ3) ...
so far, NO ONE has said YES.
Sticky means the sticky thread at the top of the galaxy ace forum. It has phone specific tutorials.

Wow how unhelpful are you
I also have galaxy ace on 2.3.4 purchased in late march. The current methods for rooting don't seem to work anymore. The person who started the thread and myself would like some helpful advice from some1 who knows something about how this stuff work. Cause we don't and that's why we post!
Flash the attachments, and you've got root access. I've been using them for 2.3.4 as well as 2.3.6. Works like a charm.
Oh, and BTW, these are from the STICKY thread!
EDIT: I take you know what FLASHING means?! If not then go learn that first before you go any further. And use the SEARCH option. It's not there for baking biscuits!
I have tried to flash:
AceGingerRoot.zip
Root.zip
Universal_GB_ROOT.zip
Update.zip
upd_1.zip
None of these actually work. The root.zip you recommend comes up with an error the aborts.
I have S5830T and I just purchased this last month so things may have changed since you rooted your device. I'll try recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-galaxyace-fix.zip after I research what it actually does (OMG - Yes I'll use the STICKY).
I hope you realise that if it waas as simple as flashing the root.zip that we would not actually need to post and ask for help!

Well, if Flashing doesn't work try to push all the stuff using ADB. It never fails. And that root.zip, I've been using it since day 1 and still use it whenever I flash to stock using ODIN. Never stopped working for Me. Try the ADB method, and report back. Let's hope for the best. And if possible post the log of the error which you get during Recovery flash.

OMG the sticky sucks big time:
- It is meant for noobs but it doesn't explain the process of rooting, flashing with ODIN or CMW in any detail (it just says do it!)
- The links are all broken
- There is information from many different people making no sense to anyone new to smartphones
I mean are you ****ing kidding me!!! What a mess!!!!
I didn't get an iPhone because of the jailbreaking bull**** so I got an android and now this ARRRRRRR
I just want to put in proxy settings so I can use my WIFI at work, but I have to ROOT!!! WHY!!!!!!
Looks like i'll be reading bull**** information all night.

I just tried UNIVERSAL_GB_ROOT_V11 because the one I tried was V10
It didn't work, however I noticed that when I boot into recovery I get the error
"applying Multi CSC Can't access to '/system/csc/TLP/system"

I think this means I have to flash back to stock!
