[Q] Charging LED - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

can the chargin LED theoretically be used as a notification LED? If yes, is there any rom that does this, or any plans?

No?

The LED seems to be a feature of the charging circuit, not the software of the nook. That's why it works with any ROM, even in recovery or when turned off. That's why it can't be accessed by the software.

[Q] charging over usb

Is there any indicator of charging? When I plug in charging there are no indicator of charging once screen is off. Couple of times, while charging over USB, my phone didn't charge at all, and I didn't know because screen was off and there's no indicator of charging exceps icon on screen.
Anyone had problems with charging over USB?
Your usb ports may not provide enough power for charging. Often the case with laptops, sometimes only specific usb ports provide power.
My USB charger works fine but there is NOT an external indicator because there is NO LEDs

You do not want to keep the screen on while you are sleeping, for example!!!
Try this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.led.notify&hl=en
Makes use of the LED backlit screen, VERY useful.
Not enough power over USB is not likely, because sometime it does charge, sometime it doesn't. On same USB, I charge HTC Desire without any problem.
And I also think that not having indicator of powering is wrong, because keeping screen on is bad solution. There should be a led light indicator or some other way without keeping screen on.
Sounds like a bad cable but if you can charge your desire then i'll guesss it's not.
Stupid question, but have you tried different cables? Different usb-sockets?
Only problem left I can think of is if your connector on the phone is bad.
Mine charges just fine through USB.
Tried different cables, different USB. But sometimes works, wometimes not, so it bugs me. I would hate if it's bad connection on the phone, but just can't find what it is, since sometimes it works, sometimes not.
It would have been nice, afaik the S III has one. But then that's a design decision by Samsung. If you decide you need that LED, you should have chosen another phone.
For me, it's not that that big an issue...

[Q] HD+ doesn't charge when turned off?

Just bought an HD+ and it only seems to charge if it is turned on, is that right? After plugging in the charger while turned off, it doesn't get hot and the charging light doesn't come on.That seems a little strange.

You are absolutely right. This device not charging when powered off. Seems it designed this way. This is one blot on Nook HD+.
You don't really need to charge with the device off though

Hmm, for me this very strange opinion.
I have 12 items (HD+) on work for customers. Every evening we place these to charge. Why then these items must be working for charging.
Actually i charge my own SG Tab 10.1 all time on OFF situation. Mobile items (tabs, e-readers and etc) have constructed work without some overhanging wire.
Back on topic, am I to assume that everybody else who owns an HD+ has observed the same behaviour? That it doesn't charge while turned off?

This has been true for all the Nooks. If it is off when you first plug it in, it should turn on. Then don't turn it off or it won't charge.

i have tried holding power and volume together
have connected it to charger but it is not charging

If you can't get it to respond at all, then you have a hardware issue and need to make a warranty claim.

For how long? If you haven't already done so, leave it on the charger overnight and try again in the morning.
I have it on charger since 2 hours,i will try leaving it overnight
and it had 80 percent charge before dying
Have you tried booting to recovery. Here is a link to the steps involved. From there you can wipe cache or a system restore. http://forums.androidcentral.com/mo...moto-x-into-recovery-so-i-can-wipe-cache.html
now it is just displaying a green led light, i had it on charge the whole night
and it also doesnt boot into recovery
The green LED indicates that the phone is charging, but does not have sufficient power to turn on. Do you have another charger and cable you could try?
