[GUIDE][MIUI] Bypassing 2014 theme policy. - Android Themes

For those that might not know, starting 2014 FREE MIUI themes can't be applied anymore. MTZ files shared in communities like this will not work, however with the help of a couple of apps developed here in XDA it is still possible to ignore the policy.
Before posting this small guide I would like to know if it goes against the rules; I'm going to try to contact a mod before continuing. It's something I discovered by mere chance a couple of days ago and I want to share. MIUI is a great ROM, I have been using it for more than a month but without being able to customize it it really doesn't excel in any way.
--- Edit ---
I have been given the thumbs up by a mod so I'm going to post the guide.

Phone: XT910
Android Version: 4.2.2 JDQ39E
MIUI Version: 4.1.3 (Ported)
Kernel Version: 3.0.8-g67d26a7
Also, I'm not signed in my Xiaomi account. I do not know if this is relevant or not.
1. Install Xposed Framework (Thread Link), (Download Link). I'm currently running app version 2.4.1
2. Install WSM Tools (Thread Link), DO NOT LET IT INSTALL THE FRAMEWORK; we already have it. (Note: Installing the framework from within WSM Tools caused a bootloop for me). I used app version 2.1.5
3. Use WSM Tools only to download the module named Mi-Tools; download module version 1.8 (THIS IS IMPORTANT).
Be aware that you will need to reboot your phone a couple of times during the installation of the apps. Pay attention when you are required to do so. After this you should be able to import MTZ files from the SD card and no authorization will be required to apply themes.
These are the steps that worked for me, now I'm able to customize my ROM again.

New MIUI Theme Policy
http://en.miui.com/thread-11723-1-1.html
nahh.. im sure it is against the rule.
Some things you might want to know
1. Sharing your themes: Can I share my themes on the forums or websites in the future?
Designers are free to continue to share their themes on the forums or websites they choose as long as they upload their designs to designer.xiaomi.com. For the the themes you’ve already shared on the forum, please upload them to designer.xiaomi.com as well. After the review of MIUI Themes Team, your themes will be available in MIUI Themes Store. We are initializing this procedure to protect designer’s design and copyright issues.
2. How about tweaking or slightly modifying themes for personal use?
Tweaking or slight modifications to existing themes for personal use (e.g. changing icons etc.) are also allowed as long as you register a designer account at designer.xiaomi.com. You can act as a designer and tweak as you please without uploading to the public.
What if you want to share your theme with your family and friends? No worries, each designer can have 10 beta team members, which means a designer can share his theme with 10 people without uploading it to MIUI Themes Store. The first 10 people who import the designer’s theme get the permission to use this theme for free. Please note that the phone of beta team members must be connected to WiFi whiling importing the theme.
However, if you want to share it to more users, designers will then need to upload the theme to the public. This is done so again to protect designer’s copyright. It is to ensure that the copyrights of existing themes are not abused. For example, if the tweaked theme was unintentionally released to the public (I pass it to a friend because he liked the theme and he pass its on etc), it would discredit the original designer.
3. Previewing themes: How can I preview my theme?
Designers are allowed to preview their themes without uploading and posting it publicly. To preview, designers must setup an account in designer.xiaomi.com and then can preview their themes privately.
4. MIUI Theme Editor
MIUI Theme Editor acts as an alternative tool to what other tools designers are using. Theme Editor is not mandatory. It is a tool to further enhance the designer as it simplifies steps and procedures and feed themes to your phone in a much simpler method.

Designers can still use the tools they currently are using just that when you share the completed them with others, it will need to be uploaded to designer.xiaomi.com first.
Thanks again for your understanding and please bear with as we improve step-by-step towards a more international theme app!

I'm aware of the policy, I have read it. The problem with the policy is that FREE themes, the ones from the official page (http://en.miui.com/thread-8880-1-1.html) cannot be applied anymore. Editing themes is worthless now because to get a designer account, you need to submit:
* ID Card number.
* ID Photo.
* Permanent address.
* Bank statement.
Those are very sensitive information submitted to the MIUI staff, and you need to get reviewed and approved.

Great contribution to the community.
I've been using since my first Miui Galaxy S and is generally the rom that I like.
Recently without the possibility to enjoy the themes he had lost all the charm and now thanks to this we can again enjoy Miui as it deserves.
Thank you very much.

no, its not as hard as you think. I've registered to the designer.xiaomi.com, and those steps is not as complicated as you think.
The ID card photo is you can put any photo, as long as it is your face, any images would be fine. But what you meant by the ID number? the ID number is the MIUI Forum ID. You can get it when you joined the forum, and it is for free.
There is a reason why they created that policy, it is for avoid duplication, kang, stolen, misuse, for MIUI themes.

you can still enjoy the theme as many and as long as you like. Same as before. But the developer of the theme need to upload his/her work to the market, thats all. And it is very easy. And we or even me, as the designer/developer, it will be our responsibility to follow the rule. It for the user's own good. As the policy stated, only the theme that is in build or testing progress which is no need to upload to the market, but only will be authorized for 10 people/friends. If they want more, then he/her needed to opload to the market.

Sharing an alternative way to apply a .mtz file does not go against any policy

It would be nice if you test it to confirm it works in different devices.

Personally I think this a great contribution to the community and I couldn't care less what MIUI says.

Plus one to op defenetly not against rules and I no as soon as miui g2 is available I will use this

I wonder why I got bootloop when I tried to install the framework from WSM.

Running MIUI on my Kindle Fire (Gen 1 - Otter), when I install either Xposed Framework or WFS Tools Framework, both give me bootloops, unfortunately. I even tried them independent of one another with the same result.
Device: 1st Gen Kindle Fire (Otter)

Not really, I was running MIUI V5 4.1.17 at the time. Before updating to that version I was running 4.1.3 with JBX-Kernel Hybrid, however I did a dirty flash.

I have an Hongmi Red Rice WCDMA with MIUI v5 JHBCNAL5.0, I wanted to install 'MIUIv5_MiroEx_v2.4.0_MiuiV5' icons and everything went ok!
Thanks a lot!

MIUI Official Team
v. 4.1.24 (V5)

Thank you so very much for this treasure!
The new theming policy is the worst decision ever made!
Quick question.. Does this work if you are just using the MI Launcher?
Sent from my LG-D801 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Latest 1.9.2 Mi-Tools can be used as well to bypass the theme authorization. Which has by the way new notification badges.
The op seems to force using version 1.8.
It works even if you have the xiaomi account active. I wouldn't mind registering at the theme designer site, yet the site won't open.. So  I break their policy!

thanks thanks thanks!!!
thanks so much you genius!!!should i update this coming friday or no?

ThemesFactory Guide & Themes *Updated 07/30/12*

I'm sorry I am pretty busy and not able to participate in this thread much any more. Unfortunately I've switch over to Android Ice Cream Sandwich I will no longer be using Go Launcher Ex unless they decide to update their launcher to be up to par with Apex Launcher and other ICS Launchers. I want the in-app drawer widgets and other features ICS has to offer so hopefully they update GO Launcher to offer these features so I can continue to use it. Anyways I'll try to add as many themes to this post as I can if you PM them to me but because I haven't really done anything with themes for over 6 months I don't really remember a lot of the details. This thread is here for reference hopefully it helps you guys out since I will be unable to do so.
This guy hasn't been updated for a while unfortunately so it may or may not be relevant any more if you want the latest version of ThemesFactory you will have to search the GO Launcher New Blog for it. Anyways Thanks for all your support and everything you guys do you're awesome!

Guide to using ThemesFactory:
The download and other information about ThemesFactory can be found here HERE
I haven't been using ThemesFactory for that long I'm not very artistic I just use materials I can find online and also simple Paint and Photoshop methods. ThemesFactory allows you to create a Theme based off an already existing template by replacing the different parts within it. Setting up ThemesFactory is a little tricky and also as I've seen with certain things such as the tabs in my theme it seems to have bugs. It's really all trial and error I guess unless you have a better knowledge of how the themes are actually read by GO Launcher Ex.
First thing is first download and install the Java JDK from HERE. After you install it browse to "C:\Program Files\Java\" inside it there should be a folder labeled jdk1.6.0_26 or whatever the latest Java 6 JDK version is. Now you know the path to your Java folder you need to setup your Environmental Variables.
Environmental Values:
First off you must go to the Environmental Variable Settings in Windows. (I don't know how you would use ThemesFactory in linux sorry)
1.From the desktop, right-click My Computer and click Properties.
2.In the System Properties window, click on the Advanced tab.
3.In the Advanced section, click the Environment Variables button.
4.Finally, in the Environment Variables window (as shown below), highlight the Path variable in the Systems Variable section and click the Edit button. Add or modify the path lines with the paths you wish the computer to access. Each different directory is separated with a semicolon as shown below.
Click to collapse
SOURCE
Under "System Variables" click New then type in JAVA_HOME as the Variable name and Variable Value C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_26 (or your folder location) After this is complete add ;%JAVA_HOME%\bin; to your PATH.
Make another Variable Named classpath Variable ;%JAVA_HOME%\jre\lib\rt.jar;%JAVA_HOME%\lib\dt.jar;%JAVA_HOME%\lib\tools.jar;
How to Export Video found here
Uploading to the Market:
Well first off I want to say be careful what is in your themes even your free ones I got my Facebook Theme suspended it apparently violated terms even though it was free lol. Anyways just make sure everything in your themes is usable and not copyrighted or trade marked.
Now you must go thru all the files in the theme using either an IDE or Notepad++ and change the package name refrences from the random name to the name of your theme in lower case. Make sure the package name is correct because once you upload your Theme to the market you can't change it unless you upload it as a new app instead of a update. You may also want to change the version code and version number in AndroidManifest.xml that way it doesn't said version code 6 and version number 1.5 when it's only 1.0 or what ever.
After this is done export it and make sure everything is in working order.
Now you must zipalign using the zipalign tool from the Android SDK. Open a cmd window. I usually right click and hold shift and open the cmd window in the folder zipalign is in I just moved it to my ThemeStudio folder because that was easiest. Then you just run the following command.
zipalign -f -v 4 ThemeName.apk ThemeName1.apk
Click to collapse
More info here
If it worked it will create a new file ThemeName1.apk or what ever you tell it to name it and you can upload that to the market.

As Far as I can tell this is no longer needed but i moved it down here just in case.
How to Open Theme Factory as Admin if you have problems:
After this is setup open a command prompt as an administrator and cd to the directory where ThemesFactory is located then type "themesfactory_beta2.jnlp" or the name of the current .jnlp file that came with your ThemesFactory. Now create a new theme with ThemesFactory it should work correctly!
I created this .bat script to open the ThemesFactory with out doing cmd everytime. I won't post a .bat file so just create a .txt file copy/paste this in it and save then rename it to Start ThemesFactory.bat (of course you have to make sure that you have file extensions enabled to do this.) If you need to you can change the directory it CDs to to where ever your jnlp file is. Run as an Administrator for it to work properly. The reason I suggest to run it as Admin is because when I tried to edit certain elements while not running as Admin it wouldn't let me if you have that problem make the .bat file.

cd C:\gothemesfactory_beta

I definitely want to get on that boat. I love making themes, i just need to figure out how to get this setup working on linux.
Yeah I'm not sure how you would do that technically the program is written and java so it might work idk. Technically you don't have to use theme studio you just have to have a theme edit and replace the apks and repackage and sign the file. The video below apparently shows how to do it with out the theme studio.

Proudly Present you
T.E.A.M. Stock Rom
A Rom for the Community By the Community!
YOU MUST Read this Post FULLY Before you Post any Questions!
First of all, hello 2011 Xperia Devices World!
We are coming from a galaxy far far away, where and when the X10 was a flagship!
We created the T.E.A.M ROM for the X10 and now we are taking the first step towards porting it to the next generation of devices.
The new TEAM ROM will be universal across the following devices:
1. Xperia Arc
2. Xperia Arc S
3. Xperia Active
4. Xperia Ray
5. Xperia Play
6. Xperia Neo

( Devices with smaller screen resolution, such as Mini and Mini Pro will follow later on we didn't forget you! )
How we did that?
We have developed a Auto-Magic installation script that will work on any Xperia device by customising system files appropriately during flashing.
Some of the many new and unique features of the upcoming TEAM ROM:
1. Quick sound profiles integrated into the ROM -forget any 3rd party apps, now it's all accessible from the power menu
2. Brightness toggle control with a neat popup you can bring up any time from your statusbar
3. TEAM Tweaks (customise your clock/date/battery/signal text color/size/font, integrated battery bar)
4. Transparency everywhere you look!
5. Elegant TEAM theme
6. New Clock and Calendar from leaked Xperia S GB ROM
7. Tweaks for ambient sensor, minfree and more
8. Enhanced power menu with reboot options: Reboot, Reboot in Recovery, Reboot in Fastboot. If you choose the latter, you will be prompted to insert your USB cable and the procedure will complete only after you have! As convenient as it gets
9. Compatible with any 2.3.4 ROM, any kernel, any current setup. It will not wipe your data or intefere with the way you have been using the phone so far. It will only make it MUCH better
We are introducing the "ROM/AddOn" concept and we are looking forward to your feedback.
ROM/AddOn means:
* One Zip all Phones! with some Scripting magic we can keep all devices updated with a single zip.
And last but not least, don't forget we have great things in store for all of you:
* Full AppMan Support with 100% OTA Capable, Auto-Magicaly Flashed updates (comming soon)

You must also me on a 2.3.4 Stock Firmware

You will also need Root and CWM
This will work on either Locked or unlocked bootlaoders that meat the above requiments
NO DATA WILL BE WIPED DURING INSTALLATION!
1. Boot into Recovery and make a NANDROID BACKUP ( This is really IMPORTANT, as we can't recover your data! If the fan gets soiled )
2. Flash the "TEAM_ROM_v0001_HDPI.zip" via Recovery.
3. Reboot and let the phone do it's thing as it will be rebuilding caches and settling.
First boot can take up to 10 minutes so be patient!
If you want to use your own custom Clock font:
1. You should place your custom font in folder /system/TEAM/font and it should be a .ttf file named clock_font.ttf.
2. Go to Settings > Tweaks and check the option Custom Font for whatever element you wish (clock, battery, signal, date).
You can now also tweak the text size to your liking!!

Q & A
Q: Where is AppMan?
A: AppMan will suffer a full rewrite and will be ready for a future update!
Q: Can I use this or that kernel for unlock or locked bootloader?
A: ALL kernels built for stock ROMs WILL WORK on this rom. We have tested all of them so take our word for it. ( yes we are flash junkies )
Q: Can I use this or that theme?
A: Short answer, no. Unless of course it is built of our framework. We have made MASSIVE mods to the framework so most themes will disable most, if not all, options in the Tweaks app.
( unfortunatly themers dont like our framework as it changes too often )
Q: I am getting a FC on this or that, can you help me!
A: NO. We can't help you. Because what you just said means nothing to us.
We want to help you SO much, but in order to do that you need to report the bug properly.
We took care of that too, see here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18195325
Q: OMG YOU STOLE MY WORK! YOU [email protected]#$!% etc etc etc
A: We kindly ask you that if you have an issue with any of the inclusions in the ROM to either PM me or iridaki so we can sort it out politely There is no need to flame in the thread. Also if we have forgotten credits, please let us know and we will add them immediately.
Q: This rom is stupid, I hope you fail, "that" ROM is better!
A: That's cool, use "that" ROM. There is absolutely no need to report your disgust unless of course you have constructive criticsm. Personal Preference isn't a bug or an issue
We encourage EVERYONE to use the ROM they feel is best for them
Q: wow this is cool can i...

2- no asking for eta's
3- no asking for eta's
4- no useless posts in development thread

Good work Team ROM, Love the Animations and the Theme ..Fantastic
Tested on Xperia Ray.. Flashed on Top of 2.3.4 on FW .62 with Aier's Stock Kernel...
Flashing took about 20 secs and firmware booted in less than 2 mins on first boot...
Just a Few Misalignments in Widgets and Application Manager Lists...\\Attaching Screen Shots..
Note:
1)the Contacts Widgets are not aligned (I had to flash my Modded Home.apk which luckily works good on it and that fixes it)..and
2)the Size of the apps in the Applications list is partially hidden...
Hope to get a fix soon.. All other things so far working good..
Good job team

Been waiting for this for a long long time. THANKS GUYS
As expected for a beta release, this one is quite buggy and many settings don't work or crash when selected. This said, I am still very hyped to see the TEAM-Rom for our Arc! Thank you so much!
I know there are many things to do first, by I would still like to make a feature request: The one feature of CyanogenMod I really miss on all stock roms is to skip a running music track by long pressing the volume buttons while the screen is off. If it is possible to include this in TEAM, please consider to do so!
Sorry Sir and Madam of developers, is it possible to have stock Home button instead of SE-ball logo? I like the feel of the stock somehow.
I tried the Beta-ROM all day and it is very good for LT15i and super good tweaks etc.
Thank you very much for your ROM.

We are aware of that issue with SE Widgets, it's because we made the grid of the launcher 5x4 instead of 4x4 (don't you just hate wasted screen estate? )
Widgets will be fixed separately to fit the new grid for the final release within the next days!

Yes of course, it will be changed, this was just some tests I've been doing trying to find a good app drawer icon, got fed up and desaturated the purple one I use.
We will include a much better one for final V1.
I have played with this now for a little while on my ArcS and it looks good, feels good and acts good concidering it's in beta state. A few small glitches ofcourse, but what the heck, it's beta.
tried to tweak number of homescreens and rows of homescreen. None of them seemed to work.
I also get an GMail update from Market, but when I try to apply it I only get an error. Something about incompatible.
I solved it by uninstall GMail and restored it with TitaniumBackup from an older backup.
Thanx for a great looking rom.

We have a transparent themed Gmail in TEAM, but it is version 2.5.3 and the latest one is I thin 2.5.3.2.
Since it was edited, it was signed with our keys so the original app from the Market signed by Google fails to replace it.
We will port the theme to the latest version for the final release.
If you want to keep the themed app, deactivate auto-updates on the Market for Gmail, it should stop nagging.
This means the only Xperia Phones that u arent supporting are the xperia x8, the xperia x10 mini and mini pro.
What a pitty
I like this ROM very much and at the end of the month when I get my salary I will donate a small money to iridaki, cause this ROM makes my phone very happy.
My LT15i is like new again.
this is awesome, very nice!
Theming ROM right
This ROM is only for theming and customizing it doesn't has tweaks to improve the performance .right?
I applied it on top of acroniom and now testing
I will give you the result later

I agree with that :good:
I used fix iphones back when the iphone 3G came out and then moved on to jailbreaking them and unlocking them up until iphone 4 became widespread...
after finally dumping that whole garbage ios kindergarden play and finally getting a my Atrix last year, I still don't understand why people buy iphones..
you can virtually customize everything inside out on the Android platform and its more social to share ideas and instead of "rebuilding the wheel", build on what's already been established to make progress... it's still beyond my comprehension to see people and my friends love their iphones when these android builds run circles around them.. glad to hear everyone is enjoying this build, i spent a lot of time testing everything out on my phone before posting it here to avoid spreading bugs so its nice everything is smooth so far... great way to start the week
hey man.. thanks!!!! downloading and test now...
Bazilians fãs incoming......
I may have to give this rom a try. Currently on cm7.2-stable-release and have very few complaints aside from slow GPS and slower than normal data speeds. Came from JokersCM9 which I found great aside from wonky web browsing. I can't complain too much because cm7.2-stable is very stable as daily driver and I get really nice battery. But my flashitis is starting to flare up again. Why can't I ever be content with a rom.
Isn't ADW EX the paid version of the app though? If it is it isn't right to include that in your rom.

A quote from his description above: Added es Explorer & MiLocker for some eye candy
Replace the boring adw launcher with the adw ex launcher and included the Gala theme which is pictured in the snapshots below, looks very clean and elegant with this theme\launcher combo
Also would be curious who created the add themes in the theme zip, bet you will find they are other peoples hard work also.
Please do not post warez. ADW EX is a paid application from the Google Play Store. You are not authorized to package it inside of your ROMs. You can edit your post with a new download link for your ROM once you have taken ADW EX out. Thank you.
Sorry about that, don't know what i was thinking but I did replace the original ADW Launcher that compiles with the CM7 source code, the free version it originally comes with, I removed the ADW Launcher EX and any other themes that weren't free in the Play store and everything included can also be found in the Play store for FREE so everything is straight now, apologies around the table
is this based on CM 7.2??
is that screen of quadrant score 3063 @1.00GHz kernel?

yes, it's based off the 7.2 and using the 1.00GHz EXT4 Unified CM7 kernel that already included in the rom
Its a mistake but it can get you and this forum in trouble. Thanks for being understanding and fixing it quick, its a good rom and sure alot of people here will be grateful!

I've learned a tremendous amount of information through this forum and have always found myself going back to XDA in the end of any of my technical developer questions I used to google years ago before I even joined here.
So I have an enormous amount of respect for the forum and everyone on here, I was just trying to enhance the GUI a bit by using the ADW EX version I pulled from my old backups, didn't think anyone would even notice really to even comment on it. What I forgot to realize was what makes this forum different and successful over any other similar places online is how people do respect rules and follow the proper developer etiquette of respecting other people's hard work and respect the work that not free and has to be paid for.
Now a days with all these torrents online and everything being shared so freely, people sometimes forget to respect the hard work of others and not infringing on their work by sharing out paid .apk files for free. So I do apologize for not considering such fact, I had no intention of just sharing paid anything for free. I just wanted to include a better version of the free ADW Launcher but didn't think that it's ADW Ex which has to be paid for and cannot be shared for obvious reasons.
I'm not trying to step on anybody's toes here and won't make the mistake again in the future, thanks to sammcripp for letting me off with just a warning and not deleting my post entirely.

I just ran the benchmark again, got 2959 this time, still above the Motorola ATRIX 4G, faux123 really deserves most of the credit here for his kernel work, truly a great enhancement mod on performance
And just go into MiLocker and browse their Online Lockscreen section to find one you like. That picture of the monster on the lockscreen was just my favorite, I didn't make it the default with the rom, you shouldn't have that as your lockscreen by default, but you can do a lot through MiLocker, browse around in there, theres a lot you can customize
Just did another quick experiment with Clemsyn's CyanoElite 1.0 kernel and ran the benchmark with it to get the score up a bit
ClemsynCyanoElite1.0.zip Download Here
It's a CWM flashable zip like all the kernel zip files, just wipe cache before flashing
Here's the snapshot of the benchmark using Clemsyn's kernel
Cf bench is better and fully utilizes dual core phones like the atrix.

It's just that recently every theme seems to need MiCredits which I have no access to (even if they are supposed to be free), so the only themes I am ever able to download are the ones liked to external websites (mediafire for example). So what should I do?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is the way you should do it, not to mention it's easier for you and better for them. Well, better for them is debatable. Now that they have a dedicated English forum, it probably is. Before, I would just post random things like "this theme cured my dog's blindness" or "this theme turns green and stinks after a week" because (a) the forums were primarily non-English and (b) I'm an idiot.
But yeah, just post a comment like "it's awesome" and you get a point. Then download your next theme. May I suggest two spots for awesome themes:
The first is an XDA thread. Ivant is always porting amazing themes so for the best of the best of the best, check here:
What does your MIUI look like?
The second is the DroidViews website. Rakesh has awesome stuff too and the best part is that he translates the themes so they're in English (assuming that matters).
Droidviews
My main point though is to just post comments on the MIUI site. Don't waste time with random accounts. I use my XIAOMI account for many things so having one single account is helpful.
EDIT: I just re-read this and I am referring to the points used to download off of the MIUI forums site. MiCredits, as far as I know, are not available to users outside of China. I don't know of any way to buy them as a US resident at least. They are probably opening that up, but I have no idea how to do it right now. If I could read Chinese I could probably set up an Alipay account, but that's doubtful. So, for themes that require actual MiCredits (it'll say 2 Mi dollar) - I do not believe you can buy them.

It works after disabling ok Google voice from any screen. This is definitely a bug.
While you have the phone connected go to developer option then uncheck and check the USB debugging option. I had similar issue but this fixed it

Yes, and I'm NOT proud of it. That's the reason I've deleted them. For now, I will try to get in contact with the awesome designer of those icons, and try to ask him for "official" permissions to include them in my theme.
I'm really sorry for this. Hope you understand.
