What's your favorite launcher? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Please, vote for the launcher and share the name of your favorite theme!
I have another post about the same thing but couldn't add poll to it, so I'm starting this one with poll. Moderator would be kind enough to delete the other thread. Here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49754302

The stock sense is the best!
Best performance

I voted Nova and I probably believe that, but I have been using Google Experience Launcher for a few days and am really enjoying it.

I have really loved Next Launcher and before that Go Launcher. I've used Nova and ADW and just didn't find them any better than various stock or trebechet (sp?). Unfortunately, Next is expensive (although it is on sale right now). I also have observed that EVERYTHING is getting more and more expensive.
The themes I've used and liked are a combination of free and paid. Love the memscape themes but to theme every app I could with say, New York - expensive! My faves are probably the cobalt themes for cm roms and go sms but they do not have launcher themes. The Go folks, e.g. zt.art, have decent free themes.
On my One I am currently using the Next 3D scene mode with Steel 3D (faisca art - They also have a beautiful Christmas theme both classic and 3D). I simply can't afford to try more.

Apex here
Apex all the way for me, purely for two reasons: I can set grid size (I like 7x5/5x7 for the Homescreen/drawer) and change icon size (I set them to 80% for Homescreen, drawer and dock)
I'd go back to GEL or stock if I could do the same with those (I actually quite like Blinkfeed)

4 Icons on the bottom?

Hi guys,
You know on the bottom of the Nexus One home screen you have three quick lauch buttons...?
[X][Menu][X]
I see in some screenshots in theme development where people have 5 icons on the bottom
[X][X][Menu][X][X]
How do you do that?
Thanks
download a different launcher... launchers are the general GUI for your phone....
Most people use either ADW Launcher or I prefer Launcher pro (i have the plus edition for the extra little widgets)
I would recommend you try Launcher pro first, its a little more polished in my opinion... ADW is an open source launcher and i think it has a lot of short comings and more bugs...
Yep. LP or ADW is what you need. You can theme both as well to change the dock graphics. I, too, prefer LP
LauncherPro is the best one.

Best home replacement

Hello to all my fellow xda-developers...
I was wondering what your personal favorite choice for homes are.
personally I use Zeam, its simple, straightforward, and has a dock! Unfortunately it is still missing some features that I absolutely desire (specifically an organizable app drawer).
Well anyway on to my question........
What is your favorite home replacement?
We all have heard of those such as:
Launcher pro
Zeam
GDE
AHome
PandaHome
OpenHome
Others....
And then there are those that come default:
HTC sense
MotoBlur
TouchWiz
Xperia X10
(yes i know those are UI's but they have custom home's too)
So which style adorns your home screen?
do we really need another one of these threads? anyway i say launcher pro, simply because it's awesome.
i prefer launcher pro plus

LauncherPro.
i really liked SweeterHome. it;s really a fanastic launcher and it certainly has potential beyond all but LauncherPro. but it's a terrible ***** theming it. i walked away after a few days...
SweeterHome 2 is coming out, should be worth a look. anyway, LauncherPro is everyone's final answer but tell me this isn't beautiful: http://sweeterskins.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Borderline_promo.jpg
Launcher pro plus
I really liked Slidescreen, but it was a bit too heavy for my G1 - I imagine it would be superb on a bigger screened/more powerful phone. A major departure from every other home replacement, with a pretty steep learning-curve, but very pretty.

Don't wanna be a pain, but what use of info do we get out of this ?
There are alot of people with different flavours, but don't we get to see this in the post your homescreen section ?
Sorry for this question

Stock launcher vs adw

Why did cm force adw on us? Its a memory hog that wastes battery compaired to stock.
Don't even get me started on launcher pro. That's even worse. And its only made by 1 man.
What do you use? R&d by Google or a 1 man progect?

this one is pretty fast, I like it a lot:
Xperia Arc Launcher
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978806&page=108
but you need to search withing the thread to find a right "version"
CyanogenMod is all about customization. ADW fits with what CM 7 is doing right now.
Personally, I use Launcher Pro+. Yeah, Fede needs to get back to work on it, but its customization is awesome.
they dont force you to use adw, i agree with you though i love the stock launcher for the nexus phones alot better than any custom launcher especially adw launcher, i think it is just a horrible creation that needs to be destroyed and completely re done its horrible. Launcher pro isnt bad i used it alot when i had my EVO with the plus version and all the widgets its pretty nice but yeah it does need an update but its alot cleaner than adw. Go launcher is another good one its pretty customizable plus i think its gpu powered like the stock gingerbread launcher.
This is the mod i use, it works on any custom aosp rom for the nexus s or nexus s 4g, it uses the stock gingerbread launcher for our phones, with some speed tweaks, you still get the 3d app drawer it has the messaging icon in place of where the browser icon would be on the dock bar. It installs easily through recovery and is fast as ****.

I have used launcher pro, and adw and i found that GO launcher is best for me, since it offers high levels of customisation (down to the levels of changing backgrounds for the dock and animations) and it's relatively easy to operate.
It's not much of a memory hog too, which is great too

It's very easy to change launcher. I use Zeam Launcher now.
i may be in the minority here, but go launcher ex is freakin sweet. i have never had such a smooth experience with a smartphone as i have with go launcher on bugless pete's rom.
I don't see how its forced on you. I've tried many different launchers. I can only achieve what I want my home to look and act like with adw and go launcher. Different things suit different people. I don't use the stock launcher because I don't use the phone or browser very much. And I hate the box around them. So those shortcuts are pointless for me. Personally my phone shows Google voice use more memory than adw. And that runs in the background. All in all just install another launcher. Adws not forced on you. If it was forced you wouldn't be able to change to a different launcher.
I love adw, but Go ex is much smoother, but there is no option to remove the dock and expand the desktop, so have stuck with adw.
Anway, just flash the stock launcher...no?

+1 but on Oxygen(+Trinity) for me.

I cannot stand the stock launcher, and the very first thing I install after flashing a new rom is either Go Launcher or ADW.
Miui is the only rom that I run w/o a launcher because it's native launcher is customizable and is pretty slick.
Who gives a **** if an app is developed by a single person? Sometimes that is better because decisions aren't made by compromise.

how the hell is adw a memory hog when it only uses 39mb RAM, while the stock launcher uses almost double???! stock launcher + live wallpaper breaks the phone apart, you barely have 50mb RAM left with this combination. so lemme see, no customization, memory hog and those retarded dock dots that cannot be removed, great launcher indeed!

Launchers

So I've been using Go launcher ex, and like it. I've used in the past LP+, and liked it.
I was pondering on purchasing SPB shell 3D launcher after the couple of highly regarded reviews.
So I started looking at some videos of other launchers. I found Nemus launcher and Claystone launcher to look pretty cool. I tried Regina launcher after watching a video and didn't like it at all.
Would like to see other launchers others have used that they have liked or didn't like.
modded TW launcher for all devices.. MY FAvorite... one of CHoice... recommended
QQLauncher.. pretty good
MIUI LAuncher 3.1.. just like miui no app drawer dont like the style... but runs well
netfront lifescreen.. cool idea... not super useful or intuitive
he Launcher 1/ he launcher 2... can make it look like stock GB or Froyo or any flavor of sense or Touch wiz
Itching Thumbs... like web os with task switching and killing
just to name a few.... just google em... to lazy to provide links and pics... haha
I'm using Go Launcher Extreme right now and think its the best thing ever.
SPB Shell 3D is a serious waste of money. Its all eye candy with limited features and I regret buying it every time I go to the Market.
LauncherPro was nice for its time, but feels and looks outdated.
ADW is similar to LauncherPro in this regard, but the EX version shows promise.
lol i use the spb shell 3d launcher and its juuuust fine for me. smooth and fast and very cool.

Free:
Adw- great dependable launcher. Has improved so much in performance. My recommendation for free launchers. If you get into the settings this launcher will go toe to toe with any free launcher.
LauncherPro-was my launcher of choice for a very long time but its developement has slowed almost to a halt. Still probably one of the smoothest launchers on market, especially for lower end devices due to the memory settings.
GoLauncher-eye candy. Its smooth and has plenty of nice animations and has themes. But, it lacks in performance compared to some of the others. Buts it not so bad that you shouldn't give it a try. And its a Go app, so you wont have to worry about support. These guys put in work.
Payed:
LauncherPro Plus-same thing but adds ability to resize Widgets and adds some nice themeable Widgets built in.
Spb shell 3D: $15!!!! But hey, think about it this way, it basically has a handful of apps you MIGHT have otherwise payed for with a different launcher built in and integrated seamlessly. Its beautiful and its super smooth. It puts itself in memory and appears to stay there so there's never any lag. If you're a constant themer or on a ramen noodle budget , avoid this one. I personally love it (and I went in skeptical about it).
A final note: those are just the ones I've tried for any amount of time and can remember. try em all. Mess around with em. On a high end device like this you don't need to worry about which one uses a little more memory. If you had a lower end device and a launcher you tried before didn't run so well, try it again on this device. The Thrill is beast enough to run any launcher well. If the launcher doesn't run well on this phone then its just a poor app. On my Aria I had to run launcherpro to get the best performance because I could tweak its memory setting to optimize it for that device and it actually out performed adw. On the Thrill adw blows lpp away performance wise. All these are better than the stock launcher IMO.

I just downloaded that SPB 3D launcher and it is QUITE sexy. It's more than I would ever need at one time (world time, weather with current temperature, recent texts in a rolo-dex form, etc) but it was quite responsive. It DOES take up more memory than some would have you believe (try 60+ megs).
Go Launcher EX seemed to be everything I wanted in a launcher. Responsive, able to customize anything, and the ability to skin widgets was very nice.
I've tried it spb launcher for free..
I suggest to download it from a torrent.. put it in your sd card, turn on airplane mode, and then play with it for a while.. see how you like it.. The reason why you turn it on airplane mode is because the android market will detect that you did not buy the item so you wont be able to use it.

Ahhh, the use of the word warez is waning. Nice to see it again. Hi warez how you been?
But, yeah, this is not a place for warez or warez guides. We develop and release open source and free only, I am sure everyone would like to keep xda as clean as possible since this is sort of our playground. No broken bottles of warez by the slidez please.
i REALLY like qq launcher, its fast ans looks more sophistiacated than the any of the others. regina is too, but it takes up a LOT of memory so its kinda laggy on the thrill.
I think the Guy who mentioned downloading spb for free was just suggesting a way to try it out so it wont be such a huge waste of money if you dont like it, as someone else had mentioned before because it is a bit expensive at $15 for a launcher

[THEME] Next Launcher 3D vs NOVA

When I first switched to androids from iPhones (I still feel dirty for being so loyal to iOS for so long...) and looked into launchers I was steered toward Nova launcher. I found it to be pretty nice and functional but wasn't sure what all the fuss about it being the best launcher was. I was told that Next 3D Launcher would destroy my battery life and hog system resources along with not being all that customizable. Well, after installing it on my S5 G900A I haven't found any of the claims to be anywhere near true.
My battery life has been more than fine, it runs as smooth as a baby's powdered bottom, and I can use all widgets and customize everything from page transitions to "flat" 3D to full 3D. I feel like it has an infinitely more unique look and functionality compared to Nova launcher and while I won't say that Nova is 'stale', to me it feels like everyone has it and therefore the wow-factor of how awesome its supposed to be is greatly diminished.
I love Next 3D and wholeheartedly suggest it as a more than viable alternative to Nova.
Too expensive for what ya get.... Nova is better on the wallet and third party support...just change the theme and it's like a whole new launcher.

Both Launchers are really great at what they do. They both focus on two different aspects of launchers. I will say this, No one has ever asked about my phone (Galaxy s5 active) launcher when I have Nova on it. However when they see the 3d the questions and double takes come. However as fluid and perfect as Nova runs you can't dismiss it.
Only qualm about the 3d launcher is it's 16.99 and then they still have the nerve to charge you for add ons like themes and such. Kind of turning me off to the perception of greed with the Go Launcher Dev team.

Thank you Sir...g
Hey OP:
Just curious.....Why did you put [THEME] in the thread title?
Next launcher 3D is a great launcher. I used it for about a year and was very pleased with it.
I use Apex Launcher pretty much NOVA
Yeah I prefer Apex.
Tapped It!
I discovered Epic Android Learn launcher and have been using it over Nova lately. It is, of course, a more AOSP feel like Google Launcher.
Personally, I used Next 3D on my Note 3 and my S5 Active without battery drain or glitches. Love it!
I am new to this but I am looking for a great launcher for my s5 01A. Any advice would be appreciated. I am looking for a new rom as well. Are there certain launchers that work only with certain themes or are the launchers universal of the OS just depends on phone? Thank you.
I have very recently tried a whole slew of launchers - giving each one about 12 hours of rigorous beating.
I looked at the pro paid versions of Apex, Nova, Next, Go, SPB, and TSF as well as several free/trial versions of a few others I quickly uninstalled and deleted. In each case I downloaded everything there was available from the developer /for/ the launcher in question as well as 8 or 10 of the top rated themes (which also happened to appeal to me). I literally spent every waking hour of an 8 or 9 consecutive day period doing nothing but installing Launchers, setting up any and all widgets made specifically for them (or my own 3rd party favorites to fill any holes), populating home-panels, checking out icon packs, and learning & getting used to the specialties offered by each. I did this all in 4.4.2 (KitKat) on the 7" screen of my Sharp SH-06F.
I agree with @imwillzillla about the difference between Nova and Next. They are completely different types of products even though they are both Launchers. Or maybe I should say they each appeal to a totally different kind of user. If I were to compare them directly I would need use subjective and flowery language- maybe something like:
Nova is everything you think your phone should have shipped with...
Next is allot of what you dream your phone will be like in the future...
Personally I like futuristic dazzle (being a retired CG artist) so Next was totally my cup of tea! Man that thing rocks! But I dunno if I would be using it to manage a company or as my daily scheduler if I were a corporate CEO - although... Next actually gives you (essentially) two launchers for the price of one and the 2D one would work fine for a "salaryman" (maybe "business jock" in western vernacular?).
I didn't really care for Nova as much as the TSF, Go, or Apex Launchers. Nova felt ummm, a bit antiquated maybe. None of these /launchers/ noticeably eat battery power more or less than the others - but some of the widgets sure do. For example the Next Music Player has a full screen widget which when the "Gravity" feature is turned on is like something out of "Alice In Wonderland" - you almost want to reach into and behind the graphics it's so parallaxically (my new word) convincing! Leaving that widget displayed with the screen set to 100% brightness and screen Sleep turned completely OFF cut my battery life to 12 hours. Displaying a different home panel with "Gravity" turned off it lasts about 16 hours. Setting the screen to Sleep in 5min and using the phone only 5 or 10 times in a day it lasts about 50 hours. As an MP3 player using the Next Player without the widget in my back pocket or on my desk the battery lasts juuuust 60 hours.
- That's all with WiFi on, BlueTooth off, GPS off, and using wired headphones or a cable to my HiFi rig (no phone internal speakers).

Hi Paul,
The answer to you first question depends what is you want and expect from the launcher. Pretty much all of them are improvements over what the S5 ships with. Most of them offer things like custom folders, multi-select, different wipes, and alternative icon sets. With a few of them I have found that you can install their custom icon sets, then uninstall the launcher and the custom icon remain - so there may be generic custom icon packs which work on any or most launchers - including the default ones your phone came with.
Some of the better launchers embed a video presentation of their launcher in action directly into their play-store download page which is a pretty good way of guessing at whether or not you might wanna try that particular one. If the Launcher's DL page doesn't have a video then YouTube usually does. In my case I used both resources and and watched at lease 30min. of video in total of each before I went for the install action. You can see from the above post which ones I went for after that initial research step. After purchasing and installing six different launchers and all of their associated proprietary widgets & etc. I found the Next 3D Shell Launcher to be the best fit for me. Configured like a wildman it's pretty over the top. I wanted a launcher that had all the bells and whistles AND impressed the heck out of whoever might be looking on - including me. A conversation starter if you will. In that regard Next Launcher delivers in spades! My phone is about 2/3 the speed of yours or even slightly less and Next is very smooth on it. But anyway, that's what I wanted out of it - you may have a completely different set of expectations and desires so you need to ask yourself.
Feel free to ask me any questions about any of the ones I listed above. It might take me a few days to see and answer the question but I'll be happy to do so.
On your second question it seems that there is no dependency on a particular ROM by any given Launcher - they all just work. Some require a specific minimum version of Android but the S5 I believe is installed with the very newest Android version so no problems for you there. A few launchers have some functions available only if Root access is available so rooting your S5 might be a consideration if you want or need those functions. The ones I noticed weren't of any significant advantage so I didn't look into rooting my device. And lastly some Launchers have some trouble with some specific phone models. For example there used to be problems with Next on a few of the Samsung phones but that's been addressed already - etc..
One thing to really look into IMO is how much free stuff there is available for the specific launcher and how much requires payment - and I don't really mean icon sets and themes as much as I do custom widgets or tools etc. which are designed to work exclusively with the Launcher in question. If you click on the company name of the developer for the Launcher you're interested in (at the playstore) - that usually calls up a list of items that will tell you what you want to know here.
L8r, again, feel free to ask anything and have fun trying stuff out!

Yes you can , I haven't found anything next 3d couldn't do . Plus there are hundreds of themes and widgets t choose from and most are free . I couldn't go back to using my phone without it , I had to wipe everything and my phone wasn't the same without it.
