To my opinion what is the best file explorer or file manager is dependant what you expect from it.
- For a small, fast, free and ad-free file explorer I like File Explorer by Amey Sakhadeo.
- A bit more features, nice interface and root access has the inKa File Manager. The free version is Admob supported.
- For a full fletched file manager ES and FX File Explorer are the best, IMO. Which one is a matter of taste, they are both top-notch, with more features than I care for. That is why I de-installed them after trial.

Rhythm soft file manager for me. Already have root explorer feature. Simple, clean, free and easy.

[Q] What file explorers do you use?

I've been a long time user of Astro + Bluetooth module.
(I went to File Expert for a while but then came back.)
Astro of course, plays a supplementary role with Root Explorer.
More and more though, I notice that Astro just seems to lag big time. (I'm thinking that it may be because of really old code.)
I'd like to know if you also experience slowdowns when file browsing, and, what are you using?
If possible, please also share features (I'm looking for a file explorer that has batch bluetooth functionality, and if possible, also show the apk icons correctly.)
I use es file explorer.

Just Root Explorer. Have to freeze the OI File Manager that comes with CM, as having it's icon there when I don't use it annoys me
Astro, Root Explorer, and when I need to, Bluetooth File Transfer.

My favorite is Adao file manager. It is not available in the market anymore. But you can find an apk on the net.
Astro is pretty good too. here's the link to the market.

If you use ICS, inka file manager has the best design. It totally fits the OS, perfect for Ice Cream Sandwich.

Not that good. Can't access /data, can't change permissions. Root Explorer is #1 for a reason lol. IMHO totally worth the price
Root explorer and estrongs are the best. RE is the one I use all the time.
root explorer all the way.
I also prefer Root Explorer. Clean and simple but it does everything.
I use root browser. Its for free and xda members will have no ads. Only add a file named .root_browser to /system/etc and its ad free.

I use Root Explorer mainly for browsing system files, but use ES File Explorer for routine file maintenance due to its cleaner layout.

Viewing phones system files

Now that I have my phone rooted. I want to be able to view my core system files. I.e. stock alert sounds and other core files. How do I do that. The file explorer I have now only shows me whats in my internal storage and sdcard.

Root explor best
I use root explorer for file exploring on my device, but es for ftp exploring and moving files from my phone to my kf

[Q] I'm rooted - shouldn't I be able to see files in the root folder?

I'm rooted and on Android Revolution HD 7.0
When I try to access the root folder in explorers ES, Astro and Solid they ask for SuperUser permission, which I grant but then the folders show empty.
I had problems a few days ago (see link) - where I ended up sideloading a ROM from my computer - could this be the cause?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40721580#post40721580
Im rooted too and I can see them with Rom Tool Box Pro.

Can be a issue with the read and write with the Rom. Might need to flash latest version if Nike fixed it or whatever
