I'm trying to get more practice in graphical design and have a friend of mine helping me. My friend is based on a different forum, but we are trying to broaden our audience and get out of our comfort zone. More contact info will be posted later, but for now, just message me!
I don't know how to keep a thread alive - or where exactly I should post this - but please keep this thread going and spread the word! If you request an image from me, please, PLEASE give me credit. You don't have to if you don't want to, but it would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks!

Pretty nice offer. Might need to take you up on this!

Any samples?

I'm a graphic designer myself. I also teach individuals how to design with the Adobe programs.
Maybe we could share some of our work for inspiration.

[Q] New Boot Animation Thread and Reposting

I have a pretty large collection of different custom boot animations that I have found on online, here on xda, and extracted from different roms.
There is no centralized collection of boot animations that work for the Captivate, I'm thinking about starting a custom boot animation gallery thread for the Captivate Themes and Apps forum.
The questions:
1. Is that something people would want?
2. What is the protocol for reposting other people's work? Obviously, I want to (and will) give credit where credit is due, and it will be easy to do so for alot of the animations I have (the one's from here on xda and extracted from roms) but I have no idea who created some of the other ones I've downloaded.
Anyway, it's just an idea. Any feedback would be appreciated.
I think you should start by posting instructions on how to install them first.

Sounds nice. I would just send the author a PM and say you will be posting it here with their credit. If they have a donate button put that in too and they'll usually be happy. Links are good.
Just don't post it without any way for someone to easily figure out who its from .....
Technically u need their permission but as long as you put in a link 99% of authors are totally fine.

Thanks guys. Time to get to work.
I started a thread a bit ago, but other than cmbrougham, no one else added any that they made. I haven't made any since cuz it didn't seem like there was much interest in it. I'll give cmbrougham serious credit though, cuz he does some AWESOME work!
I'd "grain of salt" the no interest thing Demented. I'm a pretty serious lurker and I was all up in those until no one posted any more. I just don't talk a lot. On here. >
Other than the ones mentioned in demented's thread i had a hell of a time finding them. The one site specializing in em didn't work. couldn't find ONE bootanimation on it.
I'm not a complete geek... well, maybe I am... but I'm not your typical noob either. My brain works, sort of, but it can be hard to find stuff, especially if you're short on time. I'd welcome this thread hammer. Go for it.
And someone needs to kick cmbrougham inna bottom or something. He laid that stuff out in what? a day? Come back to us! Definately killer work.

Currently the Cherry Mobile Magnum HD (Huawei X6 U9000) is P7999 or $181 brand new from the Philippines with stocks available and one year warranty.
Considering pranam's phone is nearing a year old and has no warranty it would more likely be worth < $90. Keep in mind this is also going to a Dev and not aiming to fetch near retail.
We have two members from the Philippines @ XDA, Aeoi and myself. I will only help source a new unit if the person is a proven Dev.
+1 to mttBLK .... I am also ready to help

Well i wasnt actually marketing for anyones device. I was worried that one by one we are losing devs and there is no way in near future i am going to sell my devce. That's a really good news that it is so cheap and you are willing to help. Lets see now I need suggestions for potential devs. Guys recommended devs and then we first contact them and ask if they could really help.

You have great intentions and i praise you for trying to keep our devices fresh.
Do we have a capable Dev in mind that has not got a X6 and would be able/guarantee to help out?
I think Aeoi said, unless we get source from Foxconn/Motorola/Sharp we are stuck with what we have already achieved and cant move on with JB anyway.
Me personally.. im going to wait a couple of months and and look to upgrade to a 1GB Ram unit probably the Huawei Ascend P1 or similar.
cheers
I had some communication with Dzo[http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1492957] and he says that he has lots of code which can be really helpful for our device but the problem is that he doesn't have sufficient time to develop for another device. Meanwhile i am trying to contact some other devs and see if they can help.

There is some good news. Randomblame [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778202 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1827590] from Desire HD forum has shown willingness for development for our device. From his posts it looks like that he has sufficient experience for developing from source. Friends please advise what you think about the developer and should we go about donating? I will also inform the developer about the fact that we do not have the latest android kernel and that only have sources for 0.32 and 0.35 and ask if he can really port the latest kernel?
Randomblame's reply " Actually I'd love to work on it I've been looking for a new platform that wasn't so crowded with devs "
I had also had some communication with Lord Clockan and he also said that he doesn't have sufficient time for development.

Hi vivek and others
I can certainly collect the money for donations but should only for indians because the sum will be transferred to mattBLK in phillipines and cross border payments will incur some forex charges (3%- 4%). So those who are not staying in india should donate directly to mattBLK. Regarding this i have talked with mattBLK to create a thread wherein the details of his account and other details will be given. If he advises then even i am willing to collect the donations and transfer the sum to his local bank account.
The sum that we will have to raise will be for the cost of device (about $181) and shipping to usa charges(may be $20 to $40 depending on the service desired). So the target should be placed around $210 - $220 (pranam has reduced the price to < $128 and if we are short of donations then we can think of buying his device or may be even ardX if anyone knows the price of his device). I think i had made a list of members @ XDA and found that we have more than 60 members plus some others if they are willing from andro-id and droidsans. Raising this sum will require some dedication from our members as the number of members is not even in hundreds let alone thousands as is the case for any other device. I believe each one of us should contribute at least $2, which shouldn't be a big deal for most of us.
Thanks

Popular Ideas for Development

EDITED per Admin's suggestions:
Hey xda,
I wanted to make a thread for people who are not as developer-savvy as others to share ideas and make requests for mods/roms/etc.
If a request or idea could generate enough feedback or support, developers would be more informed on what people would want or like to see.
Here are two things that I would personally like to see on my Nexus 4.
On your homescreen, when you press and hold the home button to go to Google Now, is it possible to add shortcuts and or folders to the extra space around the ring? This would allow the user to clean up some screen space by hiding frequent shortcuts.
Also, I would like to see app-specific security (pattern, pin, password) protection. This would allow a user to easily unlock their phone but still have the security they would want for their messaging, facebook, etc.
Thanks for reading.
I'll maintain this thread as best I can and put the best suggestions below.
Best Ideas as of January 02, 2013
Ideas will be added to this list as support is generated.
Ideas will be removed from this list as they are developed or "worked-around."
See the post number for more details.
App-specific security (pattern, pin, password) protection. OP, #1
Simultaneously video recording with both cameras. DonDizzurp, #21
Full calculator as a lock screen widget. AlwaysDroid, #23
5 PNGs as your WiFi/Signal bars. kcls, #32
Multiwindow support. DforDesign, #41
i can add the shrotcuts already in aokp. i think. gimme a sec and ill find out.
edit: yeppers. i guess this is what you are talking about. i dont use them. but i might now that you have talked about cleaning up the home screen.

rom control should be built into most every rom. the features they stick in rom control are different though. i would imagine they all have the navbar deal. its best to flash a rom. find its features and then wipe and add a new rom. and keep going until you find the one you like best. after you find the right one... spend the hours it takes to set up your phone the way you want. for instance.. all of this talkin has caused me to want to throw cyanogen on here to see what those guys have been up to.

There's a big difference between posting direct requests in the development forums and posting a thread in the general forum for collecting ideas you think might be cool to have developed one day. There's nothing wrong with this thread and it's not bothering anybody. It's certainly more useful than the hundreds of threads that occur at every device launch complaining about one hardware defect or another. As an amateur developer I think threads like this are cool places to look for ideas that might be fun to tackle.

except for the am dev part. i dunno devving.
So i was browsing the thread and i came across this, and from the title alone i was ready to shut it down......
But i as i read in to it i had to change my mind. The OP is not blatantly making a request to any specific dev. They are simply stating things they would like to see. Now i know this isnt a place to make you phone look cool and i am obviously aware of the rules. But bedoig brings up a very valid point. Some of the amateur dev's might see this as an opportunity to dig in a little deeper. This is not in the development boards and no one is making a specific request from any of the dev's, so i see no reason to shut this down at this time.
However, since i do not normally moderate this board, then i welcome this boards mods _Arjen_, iridaki, eagleeyetom, YZ, TeeJay3800, Diamondback, AvRS, krook6023 to sidestep my decision if they feel the need to.
@oneonezerosix you may want to consider changing the title of your thread to something that sounds a little less demanding. The Dev's here might take it the wrong way (just a suggestion)

suggestions? sure, to an extent
XDA is here FOR the developers not for the average consumer to pressure devs.
as most xda OG's would say: if you want it done, do it yourself...
if you cant.. then try to learn and get the ball rolling and a dev will probably help you along the way.

After reading the post, I can understand your perspective. All that I ask is that you attempt to understand mine as well.
Zelendel stated that, "XDA is a place to come to learn and share your knowledge."
As an amateur developer, I do not know how to develop much of the things that I wish to be able to use. It was my sole intention to facilitate a discussion of new ideas for development from varying levels of skilled members. Even the best developers can dream of new mods/roms/kernels/etc that they may be unable to produce by their own means. Which is reason enough for one to want to request the assistance of others by posting in a thread like this.
If you do not see any value in this thread, then I apologize for wasting your time.
I am not a Dev and get offended for them when someone says "please add this".
But this is a recollection of ideas, honestly, what's wrong in that? Where would the devs be with no ideas?

I agree. This is an "ideas" thread, not targeted at a specific developer. A dev may take this on board and incorporate it, as they might think its a good idea

A simplified way to connect all developers, share work, etc

Before a forum mod even thinks of taking this down- I've been in contract with Svetius and this may go live across XDA.
I would like to beta test here- and give developers and others a good example of what we can accomplish- as a collective.
I'll simplify for anyone who wants to jump in- click one of the following links, and if you don't get it, read on:
This is a link to the view only version, with ability to comment..
https://docs.google.com/document/d/...MZAPx-mLF8tnXPmBV2V7fRo/edit?usp=docslist_api
Here is the developers/contributor linkhttps://docs.google.com/document/d/...MZAPx-mLF8tnXPmBV2V7fRo/edit?usp=docslist_api DO NOT CLICK THIS LINK IF YOUR NOT ACTIVELY DEVELOPING OR CONTRIBUTING- I DO HAVE WAYS TO REMOVE PEOPLE IF THEY TAKE AWAY FROM PROJECT!
If someone else wants to create a new document, please include a link to this instruction document I've already created.
If no one else jumps on creating a development document for unified s5, I will create and post the edit and view/comment links in second post, or add your document if you choose too
I will update and add to this post this morning- please allow me to get second post
As of this moment, developers, recognized contributors, or users are disconnected- and you may not have the time to go hunting each other down, or answer 500 PMS.
This is my effort to connect developers- it is a LIVE document, and it uses your Google account to grant the level of access you need. Because it is a live document, you will see AS other people type. I can give non-devs the ability to view and comment only- but in that way, even they may be able to contribute.
There's a built in chat box.
It automatically tracks who makes changes so no credit has to be given for your work, or you can create a document you own and paste the link in my document. This is how we create a "tree" of organized data..
Links do NOT BREAK.. So even of you move the document in your personal folders, any link you put into my or any other document will work. Period. I've tested this over 4-5 years, and I'm sure of this.
The same way it tracks changes, you can revert to old versions.. So if someone accidentally selected all and hit backspace, by accident or as a jerk, in a few clicks I can put it all back.
I've been taking to mods and development teams here at XDA, and we are going to be doing this XDA wide, or at least that's how it is looking - this reduces devs duplicating work, because it is Google document, it requires no sign up, it's probably on all your devices or easy to download..
Of we start sharing and get or section done, it will give a good example at how all other subgroups can do there's.
The link in my signature(amaze Bible) shows how robust these Google docs can get. Here is a link if you can't see it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679486

This third post will contain a table of contents once documents start taking shape.
Please help this project, as connecting developers, contributors, and users will help us all!
But I've been asked to make sure this doesn't REPLACE XDA.. So if you have any posts that may be helpful already on XDA - LINK BACK TO IT.
If this goes XDA wide, they may be able to integrate this into XDA with backbend tools.. This could get really cool really fast. Pm or post you're questions or comments- but follow the development section rules!

Follow yes, even help if possible
Click the edit link and go to the bottom where I put examples where I see this going.. You can comment (it explains how in the Google doc) if you don't want to change the doc itself.. So make suggestions, or even help me message a link to this thread to developers.. Because as I said, I've already been getting a pretty positive response from the top mod and his development team..
If we can show them this works and well, it will only help them see maybe this can be a priority.
I'm going to connect them with some backbend tools Google put out to integrate this into the site- so I need our XDA community collective to do/offer whatever they can to get or beta test product into something useful.
As a bonus, as easy as it is to link to docs, and link back to XDA.. We can reduce the number of duplicate questions, need for q&a threads, and the number of messages that developers get!
Even me, a recognized contributor- the more active I am, the more PMs I get..
So come on XDA collective- help me make this work!
It is now robust on a computer, but you can do 90% of this on any Google device you can install apps on

The amaze 4g is definitely a dated device, but we did this for that forum.. It helped a ton
Please, look at this example amaze 4g Bible and click the links in the take of contents which take you to the Google dochttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679486
I'd like this and more, stepped up a notch, connecting developers- maybe even creating new ones that we allow view/comment access..

BUMP.
I edited original post- if you're a Dev click the second link, if you want to contribute in some way, click the appropriate link.
You literally click the link, on just about any device, especially anything android or a computer- and you're in, and able to contribute. No sign up. No wasted time.
This is EASY as it gets, but I can't make anyone do this.. This is about us collaborating and helping each other, unifying developers in one place - and REDUCING WORK.. Because I'm seeing a lot of developers doing the same thing, and it is called work duplication.. And time that need not be wasted if you all work together.
On top of that, if I and other contributors, official or not, can be part of the process.. Well, think of it as processing power.
Please give it a try, and let's build a team.
for developers and contributors in the unified s5 forum - please check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2997834
I'm trying to increase our collaboration, reduce duplication of work- and maybe even help out a few devs that just don't know your secret Fix's
