Miracast issues? - General Omni Discussion

Hi all, I'm having issues with a cheap Miracast dongle bought on eBay.
My phone can see and connect to it, but when the dongle says "ready to display" the connection gets dropped and the device disappears momentarily from the 'available devices' screen on my phone.
I suspect this is the dongle more than the ROM but if someone else with a Miracast receiver could confirm I'd appreciate it.

I haven't tried my Nexus 4 recently with Miracast, but I'll try and test it tonight with my mako.
Should be working, if it isn't, something got derped.

[Q] HDMI Mirroring?

How can I best utilize the HDMI Mirror functionality on the phone? I have it working on a Sprint Evo using FullHDMI, but this app doesn't appear to like the Revolution?
Anyone else have it working? If so, how did you get there?
Thanks,
-Rob
Are you talking about settings-connectivity-enable hdmi?

I was just about to ask something similar.. I have tried two different brand mini hdmi cables and i can get nothing to show on my TV. I have tried using it for netflix, videos from the gallery, etc with no success. I have tried all three resolution options with no success... has anyone gotten it to work with the built in HDMI options the revolution has?

What did u view on your tv netflix, gallery stuff, and did u do anything different other than just enable the hdmi port plug and go?

The phone only supports hdcp so some older TVs may not work

i get a picture but no sound. i should have sound right?
Thanks!
Duh. I am such an idiot. I didn't look there. I found it, and it worked PERFECTLY on the HDMI input of my HP All-in-one PC, and on my 65" Sharp TV. Full audio and everything using a cheap cable from Amazon.
Thanks to the original responder for the hint on where to find it, much appreciated. To those who say RTFM, you can suck it because there isn't a mention of that to be found in the guide which came with it.

I had no sound at first. Had to change a setting on the TV to tell it to get sound through the HDMI. Works perfect now. Check settings on your TV.

I've gone through settings, enabled HDMI and tried two different TV's (both less than a year old, one is Vizio, the other is Samsung) and neither of them are working. Any Ideas?

At this point, your phone could have a bad micro HDMI port. I'd have it replaced with a new one. But if you feel like its not your phone then take your phone and your HDMI cable to best buy (or any store that sells Televisions) and ask a representitive that you want to test it out before you buy it (the TV ofcourse).
Most reps will let you hook in your HDMI device without causing much fuss.
If your phone works then its your TV.
If it doesn't then you can get another HDMI cable to test out (or find someone who has a micro HDMI phone and test their phone).
If it works on the second cable then problem solved.
If it worked on someone elses device then your phone has hardware issues.

I would need to revert back to stock or they would just write it off as a complication from rooting it....weighing my options...I'll update my findings.

Rooting your phone voids your warranty, so I'm pretty sure Verizon will check for that when they receive your old phone. They will probably charge you the retail price for the replacement phone they sent you.

Any micro usb to HDMI adapter cable that work?

I've seen some being sold on amazon but a lot of them don't work properly according to reviews. Anyone know if they have used a cable that will definitely let me hook my nexus 7 up to the TV via HDMI?

If you do a search through the various XDA Nexus 7 forums including this one for HDMI or MHL you will see that the Nexus 7 does not support HDMI or MHL.
That said, wait for miracast in the fall, it should solve the mirroring problem, and similar apps should start making the rounds soon.-Ara

Miracast dongle/adapter

Hey,
Which miracast dongle are you using with your G2? I am interested in purchasing one.
Also can you use an adapter to display directly to a computer monitor?

I just use this little Slimport dongle. It gets the job done and I don't have to do anything special for it to work.

Do let us know what it's like.
I dont have any recommendation for you, the one that I suggest you to avoid is getting the Netgear PTV3000, updated all the firmware, this thing sucks. It drops connection, your image will freeze. Tried with multiple devices same result.

I tried the Netgear PTV3000 and it was bad. But if you are in a market for a new HDTV, look for one that support DLNA/Miracast. I have an LG HDTV that support both and I mirror my phone all the time, looks great and very stable.

I third the PTV3000 sucking. Froze constantly after about 30 min of finally pairing it with my g2 and n7 2013. Stay away from it.

The slimport just mirrors the phone through a direct connection to the monitor/TV. It works flawlessly. But I realize now that OP was looking for a wireless Miracast solution though. Silly me.
All the Miracst dongles I've looked at had bad reviews. I hope you guys find one that really works consistently. It would be nice to have wireless mirroring on any TV/monitor and I'd rather not go to a Chromecast solution.
i would also like to know of a good and reliable miracast dongle. was hoping chromecast would have an update so it can support mirroring from an android device or at least a mod/hack to enable it but there are none.
I have the Rocketfish one from Bestbuy and it works well. I have used it with a Nexus 10, Nexus 7 2013, Droid DNA, Note 10.1 2014, Shield and a LG G2. It has occasional tearing once in a while but the Shield for whatever reason works the best. I guess due to the 720p screen and not 1080p. I got it a few months ago on sale for $29.99 which I think it is on sale again. It is worth $29.99 but I would not pay $79.99 for it.
I have the PTV3000 use it on my S4, N5, N7, G2, MAXX without issues, there's a few firmware updates that fix a lot of issues. I use it to stream my Slingbox to my TV, there's a slight delay...but don't notice it since I don't watch the phone, just the TV

The PTV3000 also will do WiDi, too, correct?
I'd really like an all in one solution (computer, phone, tablet, etc), which is portable, and lag free. I know there really isn't anything like that out there currently. I am hoping the ASUS dongle will at least take care of the lag problems.
One question. Can you use Wifi internet when using Miracast on LGTV since its using Wifi-Direct.

Slimport Adapter

Has anyone used a slimport adapter to mirror the display to tv? If so what adapter are you using?
Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk
You can search it for amazon. May help you.
Are you able to mirror your screen without root?
I just tested my slimport adapter and it's not working at all. It charges fine with it connected, but no screen. It works fine on my nexus 5. So... I don't know what to say.
