[Q]Used phone activation on locale carrier, carrier requesting spc code. - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Hello,
I have a couple of questions, that I'm hoping can be fixed so I can finally retire my HTC Dinc.
Upon purchasing the Sprint variant of the HTC ONE I made sure my carrier uses the exact model, so I got a used black colored one.
Anyways, i brought the phone in for activation waited a few hours for the tech person to come into work and a few mintues later they informed me i need an spc code to unlock the phone so he can program it. Ive been reading lots of threads about spc codes/unlocking and stuff but t always mentions msl, is msl and spc the same thing in regards to unlocking something.
My carrier uses cdma for its devices, are these sim unlock tuts what im looking for in order to activate my phone?.
What ive done so far however has been a failure, ive tried calling sprint, no go. Ive also tried the no root, no calling sprint mother that failed also*I was a public PC and its running xp maybe it failed cause of that* .
Right now the device is with a shop that does unlocking phones and I've link him to the methods I've tried, but he says it won't work with the 4.3 ota. He also mentions he would ha e to downgrade to 4.2 in order to unlock.
To sum it all up in a nutshell, does obtaining the spc/msl code in fact enable my carrier to activate the phone?
Also do these methods mention above only work on 4.2 and below?
Its been about a week since I've received the phone and my dinc is really starting to show its age, and would like a breath of fresh air.
Thanks in advance!!

Yes the SPC is the MSL. They use it to input their carrier specific settings. Edit: Here is a link to getting the SPC/MSL http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2254578
There are methods to unlocking 4.3 in the forums here. I'll find a link in a min. Edit: Here is a link to unlocking a 4.3 based HTC ONE http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48867255

But I'm still confused, are the links for sim unlock? It states it'll be using gsm/uxxx stuff.
My carrier will be using CDMA I believe so is sim sorta the same thing or?
I do not want to root now till I get the device activated though, but if root is required then so be it.

Well you dont need root to get the MSL. Yea that link was for SIM unlock. The person who is activating your phone shouldn't need that. I put it there just in case : P Cheers!

In that case I wonder why hes saying about needing to downgrade cause the guide is for before 4.3 or something. I don't think hes doing it right IMO and I also think I can just do it myself.
The sim unlock link is a good read, it has steps to downgrading and all that which has got me wondering, if I do it, will I be able to use lte. I know this is an HTC one thread but this idea got me thinking, ATM there is only one phone on my carrier that does 4g lte which is the LG AS840 and I've checked the specs of it and the One and they match freqs for the lte side of things, what I'm saying is that will my carrier be able to make the lte function like with the LG AS840 device, if so then awesome if not oh well. What would make it NOT work with One, my carrier using phones from various stateside vendors, I wonder what they did to make the lte work on the LG AS840.
Anyways if the person has no luck then i will try and do it myself *save $50 in the process as well*.
Thanks again!!

If they are reprogramming your phone to work with another CDMA carrier then the SIM unlock will probably not help. Also you probably won't be able to do it yourself. I say probably because i've never seen it NOT done but I haven't seen anyone doing it either. It is a global phone so most people are sim unlocking to use it over seas. The thread I linked regarding SIM unlocking has an RUU that will bring you back down to 4.1 which is the initial software release when the phone first came out. That should be sufficient. Send him a direct link to that file and see if he can use it. It's just a simple program that does everything on it's own. Remember though the process will completely wipe your phone and internal sdcard.

your SPC is the same as MSL, It is a security code used by carriers to enable some settings to be changed in the phone, your SPC/MSL is easily obtainable using software, I use CDMA workshop for stuff like that because it is very easy, there is other software that will read it for you but I think root is required, whoever the carrier of the phone is will also be able to provide it to you.

But does he HAVE to downgrade the device to obtain the no root, no calling sprint way to get the msl code? Cause what I'm seeing is that there is no need to downgrade or root to get the msl code*this is what i need to activate the device and possibly save $50* , money aside though if he does it great, but ive been waiting a bit since I received the phone.
Again thanks for your time.

Yea you're right. He shouldn't need to downgrade to get the MSL. If all he needs is the MSL then no downgrade needed.

How about the use of 4g lte?
It baffles me that my carrier has it in the as840 device, will I be able to utilize it with the One or my mileage may vary?
So it turns out he was unable to downgrade, he says he tried every method he can. I don't think he has the right info on the table tbh, I will try tkmorrow when I have access to a PC. Makes me laugh a little inside, he's the GO TO guy for stuff, while I'm the GO TO guy at work for stuff like this*sorry for the ranting*.
Thanks again!!
Edit/update.
Through the msl thread someone posted a .apk file of msl utility.
Good news: the app installed and it DID show me the msl code.
Bad news*sorta*: I won't be able to check if the code works, if its even the right code. In other words I don't know the credibility of the app itself.
*crosses fingers* when I go to activate the phone.

T-Mobile G1 Unlock

Heya all, well i just menage to finally buy a new g1 off ebay been trying for awhile now but finally got one for the right price but the thing is.. being new its locked to t-mobile now from what i have found there are only two way's of unlocking both are via unlock codes and from what I've read i can get it free from t-mobile but i also believe you have to of been a t-mobile customer for 2 months plus or something any you guys know if this is true?
The other option is to get one of these websites that give you unlock codes has anyone used these could you if possible tell me what sites are genuine and safe to use?
Another thing is there any other way's of unlocking the phone?? that i have missed? i haven't actually got it yet but its being posted as we speak..
Hope this is the right place to post this and cheers for you input ;D

T-mobile will give it free if your a longstanding customer. If you want to buy it, buy it from ebay. There is another thread in this section (actually more like 20, one of which has a link)
Yea they wont give you the code unless you have been a customer for 90 days or more. The site I used was http://www.unlock-tmobileg1.com it took about 10 hours for the code to arrive, they have detailed instructions on how to register an ATT APN so you can do the initial google setup too. I think they offer codes in 2 hours now, but either way its a good site and I think its just over 20 bucks, like 22 or 23. I looked on ebay but it didn't have a good feel to it, for me anyway.
edit: One great thing about using it on att is that they wont know its a smartphone because its not in there system so you can use the $15/month dumb phone unlimited data plan and it works great, I have been using it for about 3 months now, only downside is att and tmobile use different 3G bands so it is impossible to get 3G with att.
Only use unlock sites who people here say they have used. Don't be fooled by some of them which are *very* cheap (as in, a quater or the cost of most), these will normally tell you *how* to unlock your phone (call t-mobile or buy a code, but they dont give you the code).
I bought my code of eBay, that way you can look at there feed back and you know that the testimonies on their flashy website aren't fake.
Cool cheers guys thought that'd be the case phone still hasn't arrived yet so until then...

Some unlocks can be done for free using a custom ROM flash. The operating system is only setup to bar off any non-TMobile sims, so do a flash, and bang, that SIM restriction should be gone.
I have never heard of any rom unlocking the phone, the carrier lock is much deeper in the phone, hence why you dont lose your unlock status when you switch rom's. I did a ton of searching before I unlocked my G1 and never saw anything like what you speak of, I had already rooted and flashed 3 or 4 different roms when my phone was still locked and it never made a difference, so could you please provide a link to this type of rom? And just so you know, in your sig you list phone OS's but what you are talking about is rom's as the only OS for the G1 is Android.

I don't think that's right either. I've heard quite a few people say that after rooting and flashing a non-tmo ROM their SIM was still locked...

He might be confused with something else because of all the smartphones I have had I've never heard a rom to unlock your sim/carrier. I wish there was though but if you think about it you would never be able to change your rom because you would lose the unlock status.

Solved: Unlock the Acer Liquid E

(Edit: see post #10)
Not to get hopes up... I haven't figured this out yet, but I thought I should start a thread.
Has anyone discovered how to unlock the Rogers Acer liquid e. I havent found a website or forum - yet - that is able to do this. It must be possible. I called Rogers, who told me to have it unlocked by someone.... yeah, thanks boneheads... i hadn't thought of that.
Surely it can't be legal in Canada for them to keep something -that i have purchased- locked to their network? Right now my phone makes a nice door stop.
Anyways here's to hope.... and a Canada Day beer once ive finished my post.
mmm.... tasty beverage.....
I bet the LCR rom is unlocked.
Realistically, once you've rooted your LiquidE you should be able to unlock it using the shell like in any of the other android phones. All it takes is root access, and that's fairly easy.
See here for instructions to both root and install LCR 1.7 on the Liquid E:
Code:
hxxp://howardforums.com/showthread.php/1655375-Acer-Liquid-E-Owners-Unite!
One more thing to note is that the Rogers ROM comes with out the voice-command-input, and it cannot be activated (even with root access, I repeatedly failed to get it working). Once on the LCR 1.7 ROM, it works like a charm (enable HTC IME keyboard).
Just be sure to make a nandroid backup before each step, so you can recover (especially immediately after installing the Malez 0.5.3 recover tool, when you still have your Rogers ROM untouched and unrooted).
If you can get me a non Rogers/Fido/7-11-pay-as-you-go SIM card to test with (e.g. Cingular, AT&T, etc.), I would be happy to test it on my LiquidE with the LCR 1.7.1 ROM to see if it's network unlocked.
I am in Vancouver.

Cheers
Okay rooted with LCR 1.7.1..... now how do i sim unlock using the shell? Anyone?
If I remember well, it's impossible right now to unlock Acer Liquid E shipped by Rogers.
One dev from France has tried to flash his phone (unlocked) with a Rogers dump, and after that, his phone has been locked to Rogers's network.
No way to unlock it, he had to buy another Liquid.
So, for now, I think nobody managed to unlock the phone, but there must be a trick to do it I think.
Good luck.

Impossible? Nahhhhhh. Where there's a will.....
I am confident that someone here at XDA will figure it out soon enough. There are some pretty smart folks around here.
I suppose i should buy another phone in the meantime as I am without at present. When I bought my LiquidE used ($250cnd), I never expected this unlock problem.
Now Im less $250 and a phone. Damn.
Bad for you
No way to ask Rogers for the unlock code, even by paying a little ?
Rogers is about as helpful as telus on these matters. "we do not have unlock codes available... we dont have access.... blah blah blah...."
Edit: I have now tried Rogers again and offered them money... still no go. I also called Acer Canada support and they state that they have no way of accessing unlock codes for Rogers exclusive phones. Corporate rubbish.

YEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much. The above link from EBay worked! Booyah!
I paid, sent my IMEI, and within a couple of hours..... voila; unlocked. I am now on the telus network with a Rogers exclusive(?) phone. Feels so good to stick it to em!
Now if I can only get a refund from the other sites i tried..... ????!!!????
I thought I read in one of the threads here or at modaco (by malez maybe?) that said there was a text file that has a line that says something like 'lock = 1', and by rooting and editing that to say 0 is enough to unlock. Not sure if it was verified. Worth a try anyway if the phone's already rooted. Just have to search for 'lock' string in the system files.
Apparently, some people have tried that (like vache) and it didn't worked
Solved: Unlock the Acer Liquid E
That's exciting news !!!! I have tried 3 different online sites all of whom
could not find a code for my 1 month old rogers liquidE.
I have asked the site mentioned in this thread if they can do it and gave them my IMEI as I do not want to send another site more money just to have them say no and wait and go through the refund process or worse, chase them for the money.
Hoping for good news from them.
When you got you code, was it as simple as inserting it into the little window that pops up when you put in a different (non-rogers) sim ?
Thanks
Yes, the little window. You get ten tries before the phone self destructs taking the world, the universe, and everything with it.
I went through the same process as you and lo and behold it worked.
Good luck.

Can anyone confirm that you cannot use a Rogers Acer Liquid on a Fido account without it being unlocked. They are the same company after all. Thanks!
I confirm, you must unlock first, or nothing but 911
Cheers! I guess I will have to pony up and get her unlocked. Thanks!
Didn't work for me
I have a Rogers Acer Liquid.
I made the purchase but he couldn't find the unlock code for me.
But he gave me a refund.
Rogers must be tightening security on this.

[Q] Help! Locked AT&T Moto X without anymore unlock attempts

Hoping for some help here. I'm a true NOVICE who bought a locked AT&T Moto X online. There were problems unlocking it and all attempts to unlock it using a code were used (not exactly my fault but it's a long story lol)
I've done some reading and I'm wondering if using JCase's ROCKMYMOTO method to root the phone using Cydia Impactor will also unlock it from the AT&T carrier?
(fyi I tried to install 'MotoRoot' and 'PwnMyMoto' but both were rejected — I'm assuming because the person I bought it from updated the Camera patch that nullifies the two earlier roots).
Any help would be great.

Bootloader unlock or sim unlock? Also, cydia? Isn't that an ios thing?
Pretty sure you are talking about the sim unlock which I know only gives a certain number to tries to get the proper code.
The only thing I can suggest is to plug the phone in so it has power and then let it sit at the code entry screen, with any luck after a number of hours it will again prompt for the code.

It doesn't bring up the SIM unlock screen anymore even when I insert new SIM cards. It reads my SIM as I can use theSIM toolkit and see my phone# but there is always the 'No Sim Error' icon at the top line of the phone.
okay well I guess there is no solution to it then... too bad I was hoping somebody would've had a suggestion or perhaps even an easy fix.
A heads up, if anyone here is with AT&T and wishes to stay with AT&T for the life of a Moto X I'll be putting a sharp Blue/White with Red accents MOTO X up on EBay pretty soon. It works great except it is apparently now impossible to unlock it to another carrier.
Cheers.

Did you try speaking with AT&T customer care? Surely there has to be a solution to this
Have you tried any of the codes from other Motorola phones that may bring up the unlock screen? I thought most of them still allowed you to unlock but forced you to wait a long time if too many incorrect codes were entered.
One of the codes I found was #073887*
Or leaving the phone phone powered up and turning airplane mode on and off after waiting a long time to see if the unlock screen will come back.
Even if you do root the phone it won't unlock it, the only way is the proper 8 digit code. I have unlocked two of them without a problem but they were Rogers Canada phones which seem easy(and cheap) to get unlock codes for.

I havent talked to AT&T as I bought the phone second-hand off of EBay. Plus I believe unlocking voids the warranty so I don't believe they assist me with it.

Thanks for some good suggestions I hadn't heard or thought of. So far no luck but I'm gonna keep trying.
I found a neat app on Google Play. It's for the Samsung Galaxy series call 'Galaxsim Unlock' and apparently once you download the app it'll do all the unlocking for you — ie. No entering the code yourself. That would seem to bypass my problem. I emailed the developer, 'Spocky', asking if there are plans to have an app like that for the Moto X and/or if he might know a solution to my problem. Fingers crossed!

Sim unlocking doesn't void the warranty. They should help if you still have service with them. If not, then don't bother. They don't care if you already switched to another carrier.

Lol... Sim unlocking doesn't void warranty. Who told you that? Its worth a shot giving AT&T a call since you don't have many options.

It's not that I switched service from them, it's that I bought the phone second-hand from someone who had AT&T service. It's IMEI is clean though. I reside in Canada so I couldn't get AT&T service as they don't offer service here. I don't think they'll help although I'll probably try to contact them since I have nothing to lose.
I'm starting to suspect that if I was able to put an active AT&T nano SIM in it then I might be able to get the network unlock prompt back by using some of the #codes like ##debug# or #073887*. When I try those with my Bell Mobility SIM it says unable to access network. I think I'll try purchasing a $10 or $20 pay-as-you-go AT&T SIM online and see if it nets me any progress. I don't want to sink too much money into something that might not work but another $10 won't really hurt. Otherwise, I was considering a trip to NYC the weekend after Christmas so I might have another reason to go.

With any luck it will work, who knows what rules Motorola has in place with respect to unlocking the phone.
You probably already know this but if you buy another just grab a Rogers or Fido phone, there is no problem getting the unlock code. The Rogers/Fido version also supports 2600 Mhz LTE which you should have access to. The AT&T phone has the hardware to support 2600 Mhz but the 4.2.2 version has it disabled. The 4.4 leak enabled it but I don't know if the official release left it enabled or disabled it. The Rogers/Fido also allows bootloader unlocking which is great if you want to flash leaks, root etc.
I've been able to pickup both of my Moto X's for great deals on craigslist locally.

The only thing ROGERS doesn't have is Moto Maker ...and my 'business', I suppose. I dealt with Rogers for years and finally had enough of their lousy customer service. Honestly, Bell is now getting on my nerves too. I suspect I'll be a Telus client in the next couple years haha

I hear you there, I've never been a Rogers customer in my life. I was with Telus for 21 years, same account/number. Just recently switched to Koodo because of a very special plan and Telus was not interested in offering anything remotely close to reasonable. Of course Koodo is Telus so I didn't really move much, the joke is on them, I get more service for less money.

No I am still unable to get the 'Network Unlock Code' prompt when I insert the 'foreign' SIM into the Moto X. My last chance will be a trip to Buffalo next weekend where I can try inserting an active AT&T sim (who it's locked to) to confirm it'll still work on AT&T and whether that'll be enough to get the code prompt to come back when I put a Canadian SIM in afterward. Once I at least confirm that it still works on AT&T then I'll sell it to an AT&T customer if I can't get it to work in Canada.
I am having the same issue. Although I have an AT&T SIM and forgien SIMs all active and can't get the prompt to show up.
I purchased a unlock code, put in the foreign SIM, got the prompt. Then put in the code (1 time), it said "invalid code" and disappeared. I cannot get it to show up at all again. Would love it if the #07.... or any worked but so far none I have seen or tried do.

Hi there, I received a brand new Moto X from Motorola this week. I contacted their customer service and after they verified the SMEI number to confirm the phone was not labelled as lost, stolen or from a delinquent account, they gave me an email that contained a promo code for me to use Moto Maker and customize to the version of my choosing. They also provided me a Fed Ex label to mail in my old Moto X that was not functioning properly : )
I recommend contacting Motorola directly. Thanks.

Sprint HTC One to Straight Talk

Ok, before I get "noobed" or told to read, I've read so many threads my head is starting to hurt.
I have an HTC One that I bought from someone on craigslist. I bought a "bring your own phone" kit for Straight Talk that says it's for "4G LTE and HSPA+".
I have rooted the phone, have S-Off, it says it's Unlocked on the bootloader screen, running hboot 1.56, radio 1.00.20.1108.
When I put in the sim card I don't get any message about simlock
Is this going to be able to work or am I beating a dead horse trying to get this thing working? I'll flash whatever or do whatever I need to do.
If it isn't going to work, I'll just throw it on ebay I guess
options

glad youve read up already... ive read a bit myself. heres what i have for you
http://forums.team-nocturnal.com/in...-super-cid-for-the-htc-one-m7-ul-models-only/
this explains a bit of removing the cid lock on your phone. read the article if you havnt already. it explains all you need for all carriers. ive done a few straight talk change overs before...you def are going to need a rom that has epst built in or find an .apk for the one. you will have to use this to configure the phone to flash. but you must have the cid unlocked first. i hope this helps.

thanks but I'm not sure what that is supposed to do...does it change my phone from being sprint to a different carrier so it's easier to use the sim for straight talk?

there are two diff locks that a carrier may administer to keep a device on there network. one is the sim lock, the other is the cid. in your case, since youve already sim unlocked (if you havnt you need to.) you would need to do the cid unlock to be able to use your phone on straight talk network. whoch was step by step in the link i posted. wrapping this all up, cid unlock allows you to switch from the sprint network to straight talk. without it it wont work. so after you cid unlock...youll be programming your phone onto straight talks network, which us explained in their kit or you can call their cs #
also, calling their cs # is adviseable due to this....all the phones ive flashed over were from spriint. they do not have sim cards. never needed to put a straight talk sim in. only had to program the phone through epst,,,which is what allows you to input ## command codes through yiur dialer. all i think you should have to do is cid unlock and program onto straight talks network through epst.
Ok so I used the Super CID and it changed it to all 1's, now what? Do you have any ideas what the next step should be to getting this working on straight talk? I'm sorry for being "noobish" but I'm just at my wits end and am giving up hope on this working.
guess there's nothing left to do but sell it on craigslist or ebay....because I'm guess the Sprint HTC One on Straight Talk just doesn't work or at least doesn't work with the sim cards available in my area.
I have tried everything and no dice

anymore news on this?
Can someone please confirm that they actually have a SPRINT HTC ONE on STRAIGHT TALK?
i've been reading and reading and cant find a dfinitive answer or guide on how to actually get the SPRINT HTC ONE on straighttalk, all i've read so far are people who say "it cant be done" and other people saying "it can be done"
There is no definitive answer I have done unlock and changed radio and os as well as hboot and still nothing I just don't think it can be done for straight talk

ST has a CDMA option. You cant use this with CDMA but the GSM bands don't match up that well so you'll be left with spotty or no service. Not sure if you'll get LTE but 3G shouldn't be problem
has anyone fig out how to uses straight talk on this phone yet

[Q] Questions about Sprint Unlocking

So I see there is a thread about unlocking your phone in these forums but that says its a GSM unlock. I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to unlocking phones but I know I want to use my sprint M8 on Verizon since I'm switching services.
So my question is, is there any way to unlock my phone to work on the Verizon network? Is that unlocking method make it work on Verizon or just ATT?
Sorry but I am extremely ignorant on the subject and am looking for some info, rather not rebuy my one.

Hi, extremely sorry that no one took the time to respond to this sooner. I believe there is 2 methods to do this, one being a SIM unlock and another being the GSM unlock you mentioned above. To my knowledge GSM unlock is what you want but sadly I don't think there is any 'free' way of doing this. I've never personally GSM unlocked one of my own phones but I have helped a friend do so. Anyways in order to GSM unlock a phone you need a special 'generated' (i think generated) code to input in your phone which will unlock it and allow it to use other carriers besides the one it was made for.
Here is a presumably valid tutorial on how to do this on an HTC One M8.
I would recommend trying freeunlocks.com first, only because I have a coupon from there which i'll gladly give you if you plan on using it. Only reason I have one and or am giving it away is because previously I bought one from there and they didn't have a code at the time so they refunded me and gave me a coupon code to enter if I ever purchased from them again which I most likely won't as I have no need for GSM unlocking, i.e why i'm giving it away. If by some chance freeunlocks does not work then you can try the one in the video or you can look for others.
If you would like to try this and want the coupon for freeunlocks.com then just say so in your response and I'll PM you it. I think its for either a discount or a free code, I don't really remember as this was quite a while ago when I was given it. (around a year)
Goodluck!
I'm just not sure if this would work because I'm trying to go from sprint to verizon, both being CDMA. If I did this would it mean I have to go to ATT?

I don't think so, according to this it should have all the proper bands to support both Sprint & Verizon. On the off hand there is always the chance that this link I just sent is ONLY for the International model and I am wrong which I very well could be. I've had trouble truly understanding if all versions of phones have support for the same bands or if they don't. I'd recommend researching this a bit or waiting until someone else comes along with the proper knowledge to assist you in your question on the radio bands comes along.
Anyways LS;DR, It should work but I may be wrong so do your own research or wait for someone else with the proper knowledge to assist you to come along.
