bluetooth tethering app for non root gear - Samsung Galaxy Gear

hello
i was wondering if there is a bluetooth tethering app for the phone and the gear that work together so that the gear can actually connect to the internet?
like the tablet talk, which u can install a keyboard like fleksy and send messages directly from gear...
(am asking because i do not want to install custom rom)
i have tried the easy tether pro app, however, when i launch the app (for tablet) from the gear, and then i choose my phone from the selection, i get a black screen and after a while it force close. maybe another app may have better luck?
also i just tried pdanet and still as soon as i connect with bluetooth tethering, the app close....
edit: i gave up and rooted, and installed null. however the playstore app keep crashing....

PDA Net/Foxfi bluetooth tethering for Internet?

Has anyone tried using PDA net or foxfi bluetooth tethering on their gear for internet?
I know that it works for tablets, but just want to know if anyone has tried it on the GG.

yes is a problem you make with all programms and nothing work

funzler
it will be implemented in the next version of Null.
He has it working (pdanet) go read on it in the last couple of pages, up to the sticky versions....
I did get the foxfi bluetooth tether to work, you have to install the tablet app on the gear (I did have to change the font scalling for the app to see everything to get it connected)....It works for the browser and amazon app store but for some reason when you try to download apps it says there is not internet access. The download manager also.says no internet access.....but the browser works great including youtube in browser.

I just tried PDAnet+ Pro on my Note 2 from Sprint and PDAnet Tablet on my gear, I received a constant data connection on the browser, however...I cant seem to get a data connection on Google Maps. I also tried Spotify, worked great to stream music but I couldn't get my playlist.

Im not sure why some apps can use the connection and some can't....
Indeed, it would have to be with the way bluetooth tethering routes the data connection.
Try my guide. I got it working on Verizon without native phone tethering and I can use the google play store/Netflix

Stings way works.

Really working tethering for stock Gear?

Please, suggest me a really work app to install on gear and tether with my S4. I tried PdaNet Tablet and EasyTether Tablet but both close. My gear is full stock and unrooted. I can browsing using screenshare, but I'd like to use also others app, i.e., dolphin
tnx

You can't unless your s4 has a custom rom with bluetooth tethering.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought that only null_ rom can enable a connection on the Gear ?
As we need to tick a checkbox on it to enable the internet via BT, and this checkbox (functionnality) isn't available on the Gear's stock ROM.

I can browse using Screenshare (phone) on S4 and Screenshare (tablet) on Gear, but Screenshare interal browser is too small for simply browsing from Gear. I'm pretty sure that we can connect both using other apps...I'm looking for suggestions about what app I could try....
Pdanet tablet works on gear using foxfi in my S4, non rooted.
Bluetooth tether does, not because my S4 (fido) has it deactivated....
So I can connect to internet and browse if I want (but why ? it's too small) using pdanet.
Unfortunately you can not use google stuff that require internet connection since they will only work with a native bluetooth tether.
The only reason I would need internet is to use google but since I can't I rarely use pdanet, but it does work if that is what you want.
Only option would be to flash my S4 with another ROM that enables BT but for my needs, I find that too much work. I am good with all I can do with the gear for now.

OP how do you do screen share? That sounds interesting.

Working US Internet Tethering

Hey guys, long time lurker here. I just got finished tinkering around with my galaxy gear over the last 2 days (got it for xmas =)) and I figured out a way to get internet tethering working on a non rooted stock note 3. I will post a quick guide shortly. I'm not very good at writing them and I am assuming you know how to root and install/sideload apps by yourself either with wondershare or adb commands. Will be up shortly =)
I used EasyTether for this as I had purchased it awhile ago and they had a bluetooth tablet app that I could use. I have not tried this with PDANet/FoxFi but I am pretty sure it should work as it is a similar setup.
-- Setting Up
0. Plug your galaxy gear into the cradle and you should be running Null rom and have usb debugging/unknown sources enabled...
1. Start by downloading the reverse usb tethering app from xda
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371345
2. Use WonderShare or adb push to install
HackConnectivityService.apk
installed.apk
3. Open the newly installed "USB Tunnel" app on your galaxy gear
4. Start up AndroidTool.exe on your pc and hit the connect button
5. After about 20 seconds your gear should prompt for a superuser access screen. Go ahead and hit ok or grant access
6. After the connection is made you should now be able to open the google play store and sign into your gmail account. If google account manager crashes, continue on to the next step and try again after step 11.
7. On your galaxy gear goto the regular android settings screen and click on the Xposed section. Click on framework and go ahead and update/install the framework and reboot the galaxy gear.
8. With the galaxy gear now rebooted, go into the android settings -> xposed -> and this time hit the modules button. Scroll down and click on the hackconnectivity application. With that app now enabled go ahead and reboot the galaxy gear again. (not sure if necessary but I think I recall it saying it has to be rebooted)
9. With the gear now properly setup return to the android settings -> xposed -> modules -> hackconnectivity and click on the WIFI button.
10. Your galaxy gear will now assume its internet connection will always be wifi even if connected via usb or bluetooth
11. You should be now able to sign into your gmail account by click on the playstore icon if you were not able to before.
-- Getting Tethering Working
12. Using either the PlayStore or sideloading the Amazon Appstore - download Easytether on your phone - and on your galaxy gear install the Easytether Tablet application.
13. Open the Easytether application on your phone and and select Bluetooth Tethering
14. On your galaxy gear open the EasyTether Tablet app and select your phone from the list of devices on the bottom of the screen. After the connection is established your galaxy gear should now be online with bluetooth and feel free to remove it from the charing cradle.
15. I was able to install Netflix on my watch, login, and start an episode of Star Trek while I was writing this for you guys. I hope this gets you guys online with your watches! =)
I will have to check this out and let ya know if I can get it to work. I switched to an international rom just to get native Bluetooth tethering. This will be a nice option for others that don't have a working solution
Nice work and write up.

This is a nice work around ! Although you should simply only have to load the xposed module & activate tethering by what ever means you choose. A few of these steps are not required.
I think I might include this xposed module by default in my rom to save you guys the hassle. If this is confirmed working someone please send me a PM and I will include it by default.
Doesn't seem to work after reboot.

I can confirm that it works. I'm on stock ATT Note 3. All the steps weren't required like you said. I loaded the module and installed easytether on both the gear and phone.

Confirmed working. I installed the HackConnectivityService.apk, then installed PdaNet Tablet, then installed PdaNet+ on phone. Activated HackConnecticityService in xposed. Then rebooted.
Activated and connected PdaNet on both devices. Opened Browser, browser worked. Then opened Google play tryed to connect. "Google Play crashed" (That is what was expected) Then enabled HackConnectivity in the app settings to Wifi. Re atempted connecting with "Google Play" I was able to setup and login.
Nice work, but yes less steps worked. :good:
@fOmey - This would be a wonderful addition to Null_ US users could now use Google Play. And PdaNet+ is free So the original way of getting Bluetooth works, we were just missing this xposed plugin.
Is there any way to do this with the gear running the stock rom?

Have not tested this but, You should be able to. Just install xposed and HackConnectivityService and then install what ever connecting software you perfer. PdaNet is free, I would recommend that to start with.

On your phone open PdaNet+ check "Activate Bluetooth Server" Say Yes to making your phone visible.
On your Gear open PdaNet Tablet click "Configure" then click "Android Bluetooth" Click "Tap here to start scanning.." You should see your phone's's name appear, Click on it, That should bring you back to the main PdaNet screen on the Gear. Then if you look at the bottom you should see part of a button, just a small part. Click on it. Sometimes it's hard to do so, but just keep trying you'll click it. once click you should see PdaNet is connected!
So if you can't get past the phone portion with PdaNet+, try disabling your WiFi and see if that works. Try opening a web page and make sure you have internet access.

On your phone try disabling your WiFi, try opening a web page and make sure you have internet access. If you do then on your Phone Open Pdanet+ and see if you can select "Activate Bluetooth Server" if you can, then go back into your gear, PdaNet Tablet and try to reconnect them, once your done reconnecting them then try clicking that hidden button. (Alternatively you can try open the browser on your gear instead and see if a web page opens.

Really odd. Not sure what is causing the issue. Check out Google play there are other options available instead of PdaNet. (not that I dont want to continue to help ya, just not sure where to go from here for ya other than that.)

[Q] New Gear User: Can't find installed apps

Hi XDA, I'm new to the gear and new to the forum. I just followed a guide on how to sideload apps using ADB. I am able to successfully install these apps, but am not able to see them on the list of apps on my phone or on my Gear when they are paired. If I disconnect the gear from my phone and reset the gear, I'm able to see these apps. Does anybody have any idea?
I also installed NOVA and then changed the default of the home button to always be touchwiz (since I want my Gear to be more like a watch and not a mini tablet), but have no way to go to Nova unless I disconnect and reset my Gear. Any ideas or help? Thanks.
I've noticed this too. My gut feeling is that its going into gear manager on my phone that does it as that only lists the conventionally installed apps rather than the side loaded ones.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using xda app-developers app
I'm having the exact same issue.
If I reboot my watch with bluetooth off, my sideloaded apps show up with no issues. The second I enable bluetooth and my watch and phone connect, the apps get hidden. Are there any solutions to this problem?

Missing Apps Upon Restart

i installed a calc.apk manually via adb push. i see the app in my app list on the watch, however when i restart the app is gone. i also have nova launcher installed, and can see the calc app is actually still installed, it's just not showing anymore on the touchwiz launcher. is there something i can uncheck, or check from my phone that is screwing it up from a sync or something?
** i actually tested turning off the bluetooth on my phone so it wouldn't pair with watch. and i rebooted phone after re-pushing the calc file. the file stays in my app list. so somewhere something is unsyncing information from phone to watch when it pairs. i just dont know where to look.

***further testing - i installed gear manager v1.6.132701 - phone said i had to update to use samsung gear manager. i did. as long as i dont show the device *paired in samsung manager, all side loaded apps seem to work fine. if i pair it in manager, poof the app disappears until i disable pair and restart watch.
Known issue (feature?) of later versions of gear manager. Sideloaded apps will disappear from touchwiz launcher (you need to downgrade gm or install another launcher)
