Galaxy S5 Pictured as waterproof and slightly Curved

I saw this picture floating around too couple days ago. Well we know that the S5 is water resistance.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

If you analyse the picture you can bearly notice that it is a little bit CURVED. So it seems that it has a slightly flexible screen.

Very close to this:

O2 germany Galaxy S 5
This is the official website of the Promo.
http://www.o2online.de/handy/samsung-galaxy-s5/?exclusivId=epo2p_3x3-b_samsung-galaxy-s

It also seems that it's waterproof, with the same 5 inch display. For all you know, they could have dunked a dummy into water and taken a picture.

that's what insurances are for
That test heavily depends on how it lands on the surface but lack of mass and metal should help with transferring some of the impact
I've made a post in the SGS2 forum but i've dropped my phone without a case several times already and it took some damage on the casing where it hit the asphalt/concrete surfaces multiple times but no cracked screens yet
that's the whole reason why Samsung choose plastic over metal case
makes it more crash resistant by default, in addition to the gorilla glass
however... there's another truth not many site has reviewed or shown.
the sudden heat/cold change can shatter the gorilla lass on the Galaxy S phones easily
of course that will apply to almost anything else as well.
fun video 10char
absolutely brilliant !
lol! thats whats insurance is for
Yes, because everyone chooses a phone looking at the drop tests. Let's get a Nokia 5210 then
Awesome! I'm always dropping my phone lol
Sandwich of two pieces of glass and a tiny strip of metal isn't my definition of "durable and tough".
Samsung chose plastic over metal because it is just better. I've dropped Omnia 7 (only one of two in Latvia) and the glass shattered, however Galaxy S and Ace are more resistant.

Yeah they are samsung did a great job designing their devices to take a hit. My captivate has fallen down two flights of stairs and all it did was crack the slider where the charger plugs in didn't even scratch the screen.
The old iPhones could take a drop much better than the 4s, I've watched my brother drop his face first a few times, it was the 3gs, and never did more than chip the edge. Then he bought the original iphone 4 and shattered the screen the first week.
Sorry to hear about your omnia, thats a tough break with only 2 in the country.

People please stay in topic
the original content is about the material quality of iphone4s vs Galaxy S2 in a drop test
the topic is not about who created a flat screen smartphone/tablet first, nor about apple vs android, there's already a topic for that here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1246779
Okey guys, please stay on topic. And keep it civil and a nice place in here. Thanks.

I want to buy this phone, but..

I am an Samsung Galaxy SII owner right now and i was looking for a bigger phone with fullHD screen an so on. One of the things i care about a phone, is the resitance of the display, like my SII, one of the strongest phones I had. I saw on MWC 2013 that the guy from the stand just dropped the phone and nothing happened. So i am asking for some real life experiences. Does anyone dropped it face down? What happened? Is the display so strong like it is said?

It's ok. Not as good as my neo though.
Don't expect too much from a glassy phone.

I dropped mine twice waist level, once face down and the other face up. The screen didn't break but the sides of the phone chipped a bit. Why don't you just wait and buy the z1 since its coming pretty soon.

I found pretty good offer for this phone. The Z1 will be more expensive, i guess. I really don't know any other late 2012-2013 phone which has such a display resistance.
Any other people who dropped this phone?
I dropped my xz from a height of around a meter. It landed on its back straight onto a metal surface.
I didn't want to look at it at first, but when I did all was fine.
Its a very well made phone, not like the plastic Samsung's which I'm sure would have broken.

It's a great phone, the only thing that pisses me off are the battery that depletes WAY and WAY to fast most of the times and the camera software really needs a lot more improvement, because I don't believe the sensor is bad. When you have plenty of light, it can make the greatest pictures, but when you barely have any light you can count the pixels/grains....

I dropped mine out my bedroom window by accident, taking a picture of a beautiful sun set and and the window blew shut and I dropped the handset.
It bounced down the sloped roof below my window, the smashed screen first into the patio before bouncing and hitting the sundial.
I basically shat myself. But alas the only mark was a very small (3mm) crack in the light corner of the back glass.
It's also been dropped from around 6ft onto concrete face first, no damage.
BUT on a hot day last week I left it on my van's dashboard in direct sunlight. I had literally just replaced the screen protector and there wasn't any marks.
Come back an hour later and there is a large crack in the top right corner.... Caused by the heat!

Screen protector does not work :(

Hey guys, I have a problem. I use on Gear screen protector from one of my previous phone One X (nilkin). I cut small square for the gear but after one hour I find out that the screen protector is no there .
So, I was thinking that the screen protector is maybe old and does not work, so yesterday I damaged my second original Samsung Galaxy Note3 screen protector and everything looks okay. But today the screen saver is not there anymore
Any solution? These screensaver should be really good, on my phone always work very well. I am really dissapointed because screen protector from Samsung was not cheap.
I also had the same problem, first I cut one from my old S2, shifted past a few hours. So I order two from a german suplier on ebay specific to the gear, and the same problem past few hours.
The problem is in the glass of the Gear being curved.

may not be as effective as a plastic one, but it's invisible and it's working so far. Use ot on my note 3 as well.

So are you without screen protector like me?
For now yes, but I think I will give a try to liquid-kristal, tks for sharing Thelestat . Should give some extra protection, with the advantage of being completely invisible.
I've heard some reports of gear's whith Glass scratched on the wrist. Must be due to some clothes we wear.

Dry screen protectors will fall off. It s meant for straight flush glass only. I just cut out any wet screen Protector and it works well for the glass and metal. Xtremeguard has 80% off their website.

I purchased screen savers for my Gear from a company selling on Amazon.de. I have had no end of problems trying to convince this company that though the quality of the screen saver is great the point is it will not remain on the Gear, as people above have already mentioned, the body and glass are curved. What happens is the stiffness of the saver results in both ends of the saver sticking up, getting caught on clothes and coming away.
The only solution I can think of is for a manufacturer to produce a thinner protector that will bend to shape and remain stuck to the screen?
The company I purchased from requested photos and goodness knows what. I just filled a claim with Amazon.de and got my money back. I am not going to do the R&D for the company! I bought three of them as in general screen savers can, on times, be a devil to fit.
The glass will and does scratch so take care.
Kind regards.

Did you apply to the gear camera and the metal frame as well?
I did apply to the camera, did not think to do the metal frame.
If your cutting it out of another type, I found you need to round the edges. the corners that lift up, if the are sharp, will get caught on everything

Any difference to the pictures? as in blurr or smoky? Cos the lens is plastic...not sure if it makes a difference.
I figured i'll be using the Liquid Kristall for the gear.
Since after applying you can't see a layer on the screen....makes one wonder if there is actually any protection on the screen

Traces of wear

Hello to everyone,
owning the N5 for over a month now with moderate use over the day, I see first signs of wear.
On the top left corner (frontfacing) I've already polished the rubberised paint away and it gets glossy.
Have to say that this is the part of the phone that hits the inside of the pocket first when I put it in my trousers.
But for me it's a little bit of a disappointment, especially because the N4 showed this first after 8 months!
How is your N5 holding up so far?
Cheers,
Flaxx
EDIT: Forgot to mention: Black N5
Mines fine. But then it is white so the sides are already glossy....
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Mines fine too (black version), but mine spends most of it's time on my desk or in my hands
Is is worth an RMA? Surely it shouldnt wear down so quickly??

Thought about RMAing it, but the rest of the phone is flawless: no problem with random noise in call or videorecording, vibrator motor, display (first RMA) and the little noise of the power button not bothering me at all.
The possibility of getting a bad phone is "too damn high" I guess.
My N5 wears down slightly on the upper back edges. Just the outer edges are becoming blank. But I consider it as normal because regardless of the material edges are always very prone to wear of. I don't have a problem with that as long as it stays that subtle.
BTW. I am using a day one device.

Normal wear and tear that causes paint to wear off does not warrant an RMA.

Why are telling me? White = glossy sides. No wear problem.
Black = matte effect sides (and poor choice in colour ?) wears off. Anything with that kind of finish will wear, I don't think they would give you a replacement for it.

I have a weared out spot on left top corner of the screen. Looks like oleophobic coating on this phone's screen is even less durable than on GN and N4. Disappointed. White 16GB.
Well the build quality is lower than HTC, what do you expect?
Now i get why the price is lower with high specs..!
Smart Google and LG..!
It's basically plastic wrapped around a screen and small underpowered battery
no case
Expect wear.
No wear on dropped and tossed with car keys and small change Black N5... with QuickCover !
It's exactly the phone I was wishing for, "relative" build quality, toughness and all. The N5 won't ever age as well as my old N1 -- nor feel as substantial when handheld, but I'm still thrilled with the unmatched value of the N5, the fit with my needs, and still will be even if it craps out early. And I'll be longing for the next+ Nexus by then, anyway...

This small underpowered battery gets amazing battery life. 5 to 5.5 hours screen on time I'm happy. Great design too . I love how this phone feels in hand and it feels to me the build is worth much more than the price tag. I have a black n5 BTW but I have a white back on at the moment.
Also to reply to what this threads about I have a day one device that I received the Monday after launch and its still mint. I use a bumper maybe 50% of the time and I use skinomi screen protectors.

That is strange. It's rated at 20,000 wipes with rough cloth by Corning and surely you haven't come near that or used harsh chemicals on it.

Unlocked Galaxy Note 8 Direct from Samsung, Sharp Edges?

I received my Unlocked Galaxy Note 8 Direct from Samsung today. Coming from the AT&T Galaxy s8+ on which the build quality was pretty phenomenal. Almost perfectly smooth edges where the glass meets the frame on the front and back. Perfect smooth feeling in the hand.
The very first thing I noticed when I took the Note 8 out of the box is the almost sharp feeling edges where the frame protrudes substantially further than the glass does. At first I thought maybe it was intentional to help protect the glass on impact if you were to drop it but it just feels terrible in the hand. Really *really* noticeable.
Has anybody else noticed this? Part of me hoping this is NOT normal and I can get a replacement and the other half of me wants everybody elses to be the same so I don't have to try to get a replacement. It really does feel "not right" in the hand though... not sharp like you could cut yourself but sharp enough to scrape skin off if you press hard.
For the full retail price I paid..... kinda bummed.
Mines the same. Purchased from Samsung direct a tmobile variant.

Sorry to hear that. I know I'd be gutted if my Note 8 arrived and it had an issue. I'm on a Note 3 so I've kinda been waiting for 4 years for this phone and the anticipation is killing me. I always put a case on my phones so I probably wouldn't be devo about it but it would still be disappointing. I'll let you know if mine has the same feel and lie to you if it doesn't.
Yeah, the edges are different due to the spen. Samsung made the edges closer to 90 degrees for spen usage, which gives more screen real estate to write on.

I knew that. I just wish the edge was smooth where the glass meets the frame. Basically my frame is substantially wider than the glass is, if that explains it better.
