As our beloved device the HTC HD2 is getting older some of us might have or will encounter hard keys failure. The problem is, the back, home, search and option keys are almost indispensable for daily use.
My hard keys are still functioning but just in case I searched XDA and other site for solutions. Here are the possible solutions :
For devices running Froyo or Gingerbread / Android 2.2.x / 2.3.x (FY, GB)
1/ SoftKeys for ROOT USERS
Use SoftKeys for ROOT USERS. But what I don't like about that app is that the soft keys are quite ugly.
(LINK)
2/ Alternative
I did a lot of research but there is no way to bring ICS nav bar (or something similar) to a GB rom at the time I'm writing.
The easiest alternative is to flash at least an ICS rom on your HD2 (like the one from Tytung) and use one of the methods proposed below :
For devices running ICS and above / Android 4.0.x and above (ICS, JB, KK)
Here are simple solutions that don't require flashing a .zip file but only ROOT (see the excellent Nand Toolkit for that purpose LINK)
1/ Soft buttons
Use the app "Soft buttons" CAUTION : it's permanent, the only way to remove the nav bar is to re-flash your rom
(LINK)
2/ Ultimate Dynamic Navbar
Use the app "Ultimate Dynamic Navbar"
(LINK)
3/ GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys
Use GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys
(LINK)
4/ PIE Controls (LMT Launcher)
Use LMT launcher, this launcher integrates the famous "PIE Controls" from the paranoid roms. What I don't like about this app is that they won't say when you don't use them. You have to swipe at the bottom or right side of your device to trigger them every time you need them.
(LINK)
Hope the above helped you (if that's the case hit the thanks button ).
If you know other simple ways, please share !
PS: I know there are other ways such as framework editing (for ICS and above) but they are quite complicated. They aim of that thread is to provide simple apk solutions.

Really awesome make it transparent and make buttons like L it will be the best

I had been looking for a sexy black GB keyboard for a while, finally found one and thought I'd share. This works on my Droid Incredible running MIUI, but I imagine it works for other HDPI devices.
THIS IS NOT MY WORK, ALL CREDIT GOES TO JAN-WILLEM3. THIS IS THE KEYBOARD FROM HIS JW MIUI ROM FOUND HERE
Requirements: Root Explorer
Instructions:
1. If you're using the stock "android keyboard", switch to any other input method (swype, swiftkey, smart keyboard, etc), as this is what we'll be replacing.
2. Check your system/app folder to see if you already have a LatinIME.apk. If so, move it to you SD card (in case you want to revert or it doesn't work). NOTE!: Make sure you have another keyboard installed and selected besides the "android keyboard", as this is what you're removing and replacing. This is just to have available while installing the new "android keyboard".
3. Move the new LatinIME.apk to system/app.
4. Set permissions. Permissions should look like everything else in system/app: rw-r--r--
5. Reboot.
6. Long press any text field, select "input method", and choose "android keyboard".
7. Enjoy the sexy new black GB keyboard!
Download: HERE
Thanks again to Jan-Willem3!
Lovely keyboard, many thanks.
Doesn't work. Constantly FCing.
Edit: the lib_...so file is missing, that's why it doesn't work.
f.
Edit 2: Added the lib file, but it seems this kb is for mdpi devices: very small and the colors are green+orange highlights and a black keyboard.
Forelli, what device are you using? This keyboard is originally for an HD2 rom, and I believe that's an HDPI device.
The keyboard is black with blue highlights, and green separators (these things | ) in the word suggestion bar right above the keyboard buttons.
Dont forget to give credit to this orginal creator
I only adjusted it for WVGA devices some small things in the colours and updated it to latest android source with extra languaes.
Gregtard the orginal creator of the keyboard.

Anyway you also themed it really really cool. This is why I love the android community

[Q] IceColdSandwich questions

Hi,
I can't post into the IceColdSandwich post, so i do it here !
I have little questions for which o haven't found any answers for now.
1 - Is there a shortcut for taking screenshots ? I wanna take some bugs and post it, but it's not static thing and i wanna try to take it on the fly !
2 - I didn't find any link to download the Testing version of IceColdSandwich for my device. I tried to install the "normal" AOKP found on the website "blackice.omca.co.uk/download/icecoldsandwich/TestVersions/" but not for my device ...
Thanks for all guys.

HTC Incredible S
ROM: IceColdSandwich 7.2 Farewell
Kernel: X-ICS Kernel by Kaijura
Details: Android 4.0.4
Mods: Blackened Frost UI and Apps
Recovery: 4EXT Recovery Touch v1.0.0.3 RC3
Radio: 20.4802.30.0822U_3822.11.08.29_M
I'm not sure if there is a shortcut for screenshots on this rom. I stopped using it recently to go back to cm7.
Maybe you could just describe the bugs you are facing?
I think development on this rom might be coming to an end on this device. Playground ics developer twistedumbrella is looking at including this device officially in his rom so it might be worth switching.
try long press power button, see if got screen shot or not.
i remember there will have this if i'm not mistaken

You need to enable that in rom control I think.
Screenshot in ics is power+vol down. Press and hold a few seconds.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
Thanks for answers !
I need to know the shortcut (vol down + power) because the bug is when i write a message, with the letter menu (long press a letter).
I think the bug is in IceColdSandwich, or in the theme i used, BlackenedFrost !
Now i have the bug's screenshot, see it.

What are we seeing? E typing A?
I think its an issue with the translations/language files.
Excuse me, i can explain much ...
When i want to enter the number '3' i need to keep pressed the 'e' key, then alternative letters appears upper the 'e' and sliding my finger, i can choose one.
You see this popup with alternative letters/numbers.
Unable to know which one is actually selected ! Because, there is a displaying bug.
But where is it ? Translation files ? Rom ? Theme ?

this rom got some problems in characters. sometimes there will be some weird characters coming out and the only temporary solution is to kill off the application if you turned pressing back button to kill app

[HowTo]Install Android 4.4 KitKat Launcher On Any Jelly Bean Device

Greeting Guys!!!
This Tutorial is to tell you How To Install Android 4.4 KitKat Launcher On Any Jelly Bean Device !!!
It’s worth noting that Google Experience Launcher may not work on all phones, and you may face force close issues. In my own testing, the launcher didn’t face any problem whatsoever on the international variant of Galaxy NOTE II, but your mileage may vary depending on your device. I advise that you create a backup before proceeding. Best of Luck :good:
Requirements
A phone running Android 4.1, 4.2 or 4.3 Jelly Bean
This archive => http://d-h.st/oHj .It contains:
1. PreBuiltGmsCore.apk (Google Play Services 4.0)
2. Velvet.apk (Google Search)
3. GoogleHome.apk (Launcher)

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Procedure
1. Again, to be on the safe side I recommend that you create a backup first to avoid any issues.
2. Next up, download the ZIP fie provided in the link above and extract its contents to an easily accessible location. You can download the file to your PC and transfer them to your device, or you can download it straight to your Android device and extract the archive using any file extraction app.
3. Now, install all three files available in that folder one by one by simply tapping on them..
4. Once done, simply press Home and select the new Launcher as default.
Note: If you face Google Search Force Close issue, just long-press the home screen in the new launcher, select Settings and then tap Voice. Select Language to change the default. You can change to any another language and then again back to your own language by following the same procedure.

Yes, I've tried this, but the softkeys resolution is xxhdpi and if I resize them they look ugly...

Secret Display Mode (Less Saturated and not Yellowish)

UPDATE: there is an alternative app that let you change the color mode, but you need root.
If you're interested, this is the xda thread, and the dev is @emandt. This is the only way I've found of having a not saturated color mode if you don't have a touchwiz rom, like Cyanogenmod.
works for me on G920f rom Touchwiz

Manual download - Version 1.1.6
Download link: http://www.emandt.net/Android/ColorModeChanger/Testing/ColorModeChanger_1106.apk
Version 1.1.6:
- Fixed Interface issues on Tablets
- Fixed FC on UI opening on Tablets
Limitations ONLY during BETA period:
1) Each time you launch the App it checks for License. If internet connection is not available, the App will not run.
2) For cause n.1 the option "Start at boot" will not work because internet connection is not ready during boot (but it will work when released outside the Beta period)
3) Only MANUAL update available
4) If you have more than one Google Account registered on your device, please contact me because I have to manually add the others to the Licensed list.
- Install on External SDCard is not supported
- Only English Language available
Instructions and development choises:
To avoid creating a permanent running Background Service/Process AND a separated Interface (for changing Settings) I preferred to use an "all-in-one" App which requires this steps:
- first launch the App doesn't show anything (it just set the default/last_saved configuration)
- if launched AGAIN within 30 seconds it will open Settings Interface
- next launches follow the same behaviour as before
This behaviour is intended to work with "Start at boot" options to avoid Interface launching after a Boot is completed.
PS: Open the Interface (the second launch within 30 secs from the first one) may take few seconds while reading informations of your screen.
Instructions for download and activate it:
1) Visit this link and accept to be a Beta Tester: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.emandt.colormodechanger (this link will allows your Google Account to get a valid License)
2) PLEASE DON'T DOWNLOAD the App from Play Store because a payment is required even if in Beta (Google is crazy charging Testers for this), but manually download it with the link above
Please report bugs providing Device Name and Android Version or I cannot help you so much.
