Tutorial for developing for gear - Samsung Galaxy Gear

Anyone know of any tutorials or how-to guide for.developing a simple app for the gear?
I know how.to build an android app for smartphone device but not sure where to start watching the gear.

If you know how to make an app for a smartphone you know how to make one for the gear.
The only real difference is the screen size, else it's pretty straight forward.

So after I make a simple hello world app, how do push it to the gear?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app

I push apps using adb install.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using xda app-developers app

Yes, ADB it is.
I have mine in the cradle connected to the computer and debugs my apps just as when I´m developing for regular devices.

Thanks guys, I get it now. I thought the apps were different for gear.

Ok, how about developing my own watch face app. similar to "neon : digital watch"? Just a basic watch face. Can anyone point me to a tutorial on how to get started?
I tried decompiling neon:digital watch but i didn't find much code and xml files weren't really readable.
After googling all i can find is "to use watchstyler".
I would like to build a basic app to learn how the watch face is setup.

i guess this is why i can't find any information on this
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57609639-94/this-is-why-there-arent-more-samsung-galaxy-gear-apps/
says the app store is invite only so i guess their documentation is not public...

I know that the SDK for the gear 2 came out, no updated news about the original gear?

Can we develop apps running on gear with Internet access?

Multi tasking

Is there an app or a mod which can "multitask" in the same way as windows 8 or the Samsung Note 2 e.g. two windows alongside each other? Would be useful on such a big screen.

Yes, but it is only available on webOS... its called Glympse. I believe there were people trying to integrate a similar capability called Cornerstone, but I don't believe there was much success. I' d suggesting Googling both for more info.

Did some googling, it only appears on old CM9 builds, no chance of it being put on CM10?

Instead of showing off what you've found... How about sharing the knowledge, your post was no help at all to the OP:
Most "floating" apps can be purchased from this Dev.
Wasn't difficult to help, was it?
Thank you, way more helpful than the previous post which did I must say leave me confused.

Anything to do with root?

Now that there is root on this device is there anything we can do with it? Or is it just a novelty as of now. I know one thing that I'd like to see is no sound when taking pictures.

It opens a ton of possibilities, mainly sideloading apps, debugging better and just making the whole development cycle for apps / roms etc quicker and easier.
hopefully someone releases a ROM soon

The issue is because they updated the gear manager for the phone but not the gear software itself yet for the United States. There are fixes for this in this forum do a search for Official update for the Gear November 15, or look for a header with that in it. Basically the fix is putting the UK or British version of the gear software onto the gear and the notification start working again. You do not even have to route the gear to accomplish this. Sorry I'm too new to know how to post links to those articles but searching you'll find plenty.
Thx

Xda app

Hey guy's. I've been having trouble with this app constantly force closing on me. Is anyone else having this issue? It happened on my note1 and now it's happening on my new note 3. Thanks in advance.

The xda premium 4 app is working flawlessly for me.
It was working ok until about a month and a half ago. Sure hope someone fixes it.

It happens on all my devices when I respond to a first thread
It also for some reason selects the message above the person in replying.

The last time I went to XDA through an app I used Tapatalk instead of XDA because I already use Tapatalk for all the other forums. I did buy the XDA app to support XDA, I just don't like keeping so many different apps all for forums. I found that the Tapatalk app doesn't crash when I browse on it, if you wanted to try that?
i've noticed that it crashes when you are giving to many inputs i.e. tapping too much. If you avoid this, the app works well.
There is also an issue of tap detection. when i try to reply to someone i have to tap on the post below the one desired. :/ but it doesnt crash the app... so thats a plus right?

Appreciate it. Yeah, I've never quite gotten used to Facebook, still keep forums I've been on for years.... Tapatalk is a really nice way to organize them all. The only thing that drives me nuts is that when you go to download a file off of a forum it opens a browser which kind of disrupts the flow, but I think XDA app did the same thing. That would be a tremendously useful thing for the XDA app to do is manage XDA downloads, but for all I know it does that now, I haven't used the XDA app in awhile. These ATT ROMs are around a gig sometime... Hell to download on a mobile phone just because so many things seem to be able to break the download. And the download managers seem to hiccup sometimes with the site that are primarily used for hosting, don't know why.
I bought the xda premium app a couple years ago to show my support. But it does suck on this phone. Doesn't show pictures corectly. The search function is not very helpful. When I open it if it's been in the the background for a while it won't connect to the server to refresh. I have to close it and open it again. Also when leaving the app the animation lags really bad. I always thought it ironic that the XDA app was so buggy lol
**side note- I don't know the first thing about making apps or how hard they are to debug and make run smoothly on all devices. So I'm not hating. Just throwing it out there...

Rooted Samsung Galaxy Gear Notifications

Thinking about rooting my samsung galaxy gear, but wanted to know if I plan to root it and flash a custom rom will I still be able to receive notifications? Ive been told if you flash a rom you will not be able to receive notifications because you will no longer be able to add gear manager. Someone please give me your input

not true - got mine rooted and running null - getting notifications - on top of that, if you use atooma you can make your gear smarter. I have it setup so i get notification whenever i get an email, when there is rain forecasted in the weather (i bike to work) and many other things

You need gear manager for phone to communicate fully with watch. Otherwise it's just a fancy Bluetooth headset
