[Q] [20a] stuck in cwm bootloop after installing 20b update - LG Optimus 4X HD

Hi,
i am stuck in a bootloop.
i have an unlocked bootloader and had CM10.1 previously.
i then went back to an old 20a backup i made some month ago.
that worked fine.
my phone downloaded an update to 20b then, and i installed it.
after that i am stuck in a bootloop now. normal booting gives me cwm.
i am not able to turn the phone off and charge it, as mentioned somewhere else, to clear the "boot to recovery" flag.
someone knows a way to clear this flag?
Its not important for me if i run stock or CM, but even when i install my CM backup now it still boots into recovery.
holding <down> while rebooting gives me "S/W Upgrade - Please wait while upgrading".
it seems the 20b update is still present and trying to boot into stock recovery, resulting in cwm getting loaded everytime.
(cwm works fine, i can upload a zip and execute it)
greetings

i had the same, if you want to install ota updates you should have the "original" recovery.
i flashed it back to stock with LG .kdz flasher. if i remember correct flashing a backup from sd card won't slove this problem.

hm, i remember having the same problem while installing CM. there was something i did to interrupt the loop, and yes, i think the original LG suite or kdz was involved. but i should not need to reflash the original rom.. its just a flag, i should be able to clear it with sideload/zip/button combination.
[edit] maybe i wasnt clear about that: i dont need the 20b upgrade, i would love to cancel the update process, if that makes my phone boot again.

sorry but i can't help you with the flag... i solved it by reflashing but i have to admit it's quite drastic.

well..
i will reflash stock i guess.
do you remember which thread/tool/drivers you used to reflash?
i am on win7 and my PC isnt able to load fastboot nor LG mobile usb drivers.
i have them installed but get the yellow warning on both in windows hardware administration page

Easiest way to reflash stock is to force an update using the LGMobile Support Tool. Once your phone is connected (I suggest the S/W Update mode) look for the option somewhere in the upper right menu.
Edit: This will also revert to the stock recovery.

if i recall correctly, the LGMobile Support Tool tool wont recognize my phone, since i have a custom kernel, unlocked bootloader and a custom ROM.
i am trying to flash stock ROM now with kdz updater ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069723 ), and if this does not work i am going through every method thats there..
total overkill for a working phone thats just too stupid to boot the right option..
@moneyvirus: thx

Not sure about this, but the S/W mode might make a difference here. No harm in trying, right?

well. i was able to install stock 20a with kdz updater and link above.
cwm is gone now ofc, but everything at least works.
in some hours i will be rooted and cwm'ed again, but well... its always the same lesson: never touch a running system.
but maybe here's the wrong place to insist on this wisdom

Well, my o2x keeps rebooting, and stucking on boot.. i tryied flash v10b with nvflash and v20l with smartflash and its keep rebooting.. the phone doenst boot, i cant get into home screen.. anyone knows what can be? how i can fix it?
Thx
Have you come from a custom ROM before flashing v10b? If you have then you will probably have to use Paul obriens backtoext3 which is just flashed in cwm.
If its not then that's as far as my helpfulness can go...

i was on modaco, then i restore back the original backup with cwm.
after i tryied install v20l, phone doesnt boot, then i tryied v10b and phone doesnt boot..
now i cant install CWM since the android system doesnt up.. any other idea? maybe a backtoext3 without cwm?
You should still be able to get cwm even in a boot loop. Keep holding power and volume down until you get to it and then flash backtoext3.
Was it boot looping after you restored your original. If it was then you might only be able to nv flash an original rom.
If it wasn't then you should be able to get to recovery and flash backtoext3

Install CWM via NVFLash. Follow the first 3 steps of this guide to install it.

No. He said he smartflashed 20L, which means CWM has been overwritten with the stock recovery. All this will achieve is a wipe.

Yes, it does. I suggested you install CWM so you can restore a backup or flash a new one.
Both of the flashing procedures (NVFlash, Smartflash) should have restored your phone to a working state no matter what, so either your phone is faulty, or your USB-connection is flaky, lets hope its the last. (I assume you have read how, and most importantly, how not to connect USB when flashing.)
So run back2ext3, install a ROM and see if that works.

Primarily it was a hint to go search and read about how to flash before you flash. But since you ask:
Do not connect to USB via a hub, always connect directly to the computer. When something doesn't work, try a different cable. Do not use an overclocked computer to flash. etc. etc. etc.

Try to flash a rom or restore a backup via CWM. Doing the same thing over and over is not likely to help.
Download one of these: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1328656
Put it on your sdcard.
Install CWM via NVFLash. (If not already there.)
Start CWM.
Wipe/Factory reset.
Flash it.

[Q] LG SECURITY ERROR - Bootloop on Optimus Black

I had rooted my Optimus Black right from the first week i had bought in May 2012. Tried all the possible custom ROM's out there. Huexx's Zeus ROM was my favourite. But due to power problems (abrupt restarts and excessive heating during charging) I had to give my Black to service center for repair. I made sure that I switched back to stock ROM before I give it back to the service center.
Since then, I have been unable to ROOT it !!
Tried all the possible methods to root it:
CWM Injection, Smartflash resulted into BOOTLOOP's when i tried to flash older V10 and V20 firmwares. Only firmwares that worked were V20 F and V20 G.
This got me really frustrated as I just couldnt ROOT IT.
Today I flashed European V30 with the intention of ROOTING it with Unlockroot.
This time i was successful in ROOTING.
I installed Rom Manager, Flashed CLockwordmod Recovery. Rebooted into recovery and was greeted with a "LG Security Error" !!!! The phone just wont start.
What is going on ?? Is my bootloader locked ?? I dont know ??
Can someone please help me ??
Official ICS has bootloader locked.
lg putted a "crc check" on the bootloader so if its modified like your case, it gives a security error

Does that mean I am stuck on STOCK firmware from now on ?? This sucks.
I also came across things like for the Optimus G and Nitro.
Cant anything be done regarding this matter for the Black ?
Removing the very essence of andriod OS by LG by resorting to such stupidity really DISGUSTS me.
Please Dev's, come up with something. STOCK LG roms suck ass.
yes you cannot have cwm with that rom (atleast this easy)
flash another rom with smartflashtool
Download THIS and use THIS tutorial .. you`ll get Gingerbread rooted. After this install rom manager and you can install custom rom.

Tried it but FAILED.
STUCK on LG logo with the bottom lights blinking. Waited for more than 10 mins but just stuck there.
As I had mentioned earlier, can boot successfully through only stock firmwares like V20 F, V20 G and V30. Cannot flash patched roms and neither can I flash old V10 firmware as it results in BOOTLOOP.

A lot of people flash a patched V20 and they forget to flash the Superuser and that results in a bootloop. At least it happened to me when I first rooted my OB in ancient times.Maybe this is the case.

Tried Rom Converter 2 and 2.1, Injection Method, everything.

Did you start smartflash as admin? Disable anti virus program and firewall maybe?
Sent from my LG-P970 using xda app-developers app
Hi
This happens if you flash original v30b with smart flash and the only way to go back to GB is flash a patched v20 version....
And it directly first boots into CWM...now dont restart....just flash your backup from your memcard, this will bring your phone back alive....
You can try copy any other zip version in your memory card if u dont have backup....
The problem is original v30 formats the phone in some diff format.....
Flashing it back with CWM...brings it back alive....
If you already flashed patched version then u can try to enter CWM by console...adb reboot recovery......else do as mentioned above....

no more CWM: [Locked Bootloader]CWM recovery 6.0.2.8 for locked bootloaders released

Hi everybody.
I have a problem
I followed the instructions from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187363&page=32 to get CWM for locked Bootloaders.
Everything was fine, it worked, I did already a backup with the CWM. Then I rebooted to the OS, went home, wanted to reboot to recovery to try to flash a custom stock based ROM, but now I can not get anymore into the recovery. Neither with booting up and pressing the volume key, nor with titanium backup and boot to recovery option.
I tried to reinstall CWM using the script, but no success to get into CWM. See also the screenshot attached from krabappel2548's script.
Any Ideas??

Its been a while since I have had to do it but you should use RSD Lite and a 4.1.2 hsx file for the bionic. If you google the two you should comeup with the files you will need. Sorry I cant be of more help.
EDIT: So I still have the file you need to flash using RSD Lite (Not sure what version you will need). https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/80936776/cdma_targa_9.8.2O-72_VZW-22_cfc.xml.zip This file is 468 MB.
Now you just need to download RSD Lite. It only works with Windows. Windows XP is probably your best bet.

Yes I believe you did edit it out. However I used a different link. I did get it working and rooted with the help of a linux bootable disc. Also I install safestrap correctly. But ran into a problem. I got cocky and didnt read all the instructions on flashing a rom and accidently flashed it over top of the stock rom so when i boot it loops then goes to recovery. Next i did a factory reset and wipe retried but no luck. So i did the only thing i knew to do was to make a second rom slot and install the backup i made of the stock. Which works fine no complaints. But low on storage how would i go about wiping the stock rom with out doing a complete factory reset through rsd lite again. That way i could just flash my backup on top of stock cause it wont flash properly as is. Thanks in advance

Activate the stock slot, then go to advanced wipe and select cache, dalvik cache and system. Then after the wipe you should be able to restore your stock backup to the stock slot. Then reboot. If it works you can then safely delete the other slot you created.

update software atrix hd

i recieved several times a message saying that i have to install a security update (at&t), after some time i decided to install it but when i try to i get a status 7, another thing what do i need to install a custom rom on my arix hd, it has android 4.1 from at&t, unlocked bootloader, cwm, and carrier unlocked (i dont want to loose this), in my touchpad i just have to download the rom + gapss and install them from a custom recover, so i dont know if this is the same for the atrix hd, thanks in advance.
You need to be running stock recovery and stock ROM to install the update.
The update includes security patches and some modem updates. This update may be necessary for taking the OTA KK update.

ok thanks for answering, i have stock rom so, but unlocked bootloader can i install it then just by installing the stock recovery?
You may need to be unrooted in addition to having stock recovery.
If you removed too many of the att apps, that may cause the update to fail as well.

Did you phone take the update or is it automatically booting into recovery?
The best way to get the update is to flash back to stock ATT 4.1.1, take the OTA update, re-install CWM, and carry on using a custom ROM. This is exactly what I did with a Bell Canada Atrix HD.
You can try re-installing stock recovery in fastboot.

Yeah. The quickest, sure-fire way to get in a position to take the OTA update is to flash back to stock (stock files available here). You can use RSD or MythTools, whatever works for you. Doing this will also put you back on stock recovery.
I had to do this, too, before I could take the OTA. But in my case I had modified/removed too many AT&T stock apps...
thanks to both of you, yes the phone rebooted itself like about 40 secs from turning on i was able to fix this part by formatting cache from cwm, now im gonna try to flash stock recovery

When the dead Android dude is on the screen, tap the bottom right hand side of screen. Hopefully, a menu will appear.

Which stock ROM did you install? There are 2 versions of 4.1.1.

Blur_Version.98.4.20.MB886.ATT.en.US is the one that my phone already had
I think that is the ROM before the update.
I see another ROM named Blur_Version.98.5.38.MB886.ATT.en.US too.

Strange. Did you flash both ROMs using RSD Lite or Myth? I had to use RSD Lite without Myth to flash 98.4.20.

I got a Bell Canada Atrix HD from a co-worker. When I used Myth to flash from stock Bell to stock ATT, it would not work properly. When I used RSD with 98.4.20 without going through Myth, the ATT ROM flashed without any errors. I was able to take the OTA update, flash CWM, and revert to a custom ROM.
