Cannot see ZIP in recovery - WTF? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can someone please help me? I just got an HTC ONE.
I've installed TWRP.
I now want to root the phone and flash superuser.zip.
When I connect the phone via USB to the PC I see 26GB of storage and move my zips to the root.
When I am in recovery I CAN ONLY SEE INTERNAL STORAGE. No SDCARD!
FAWK!!! My Samsung was sooooooooooo much easier to root.
Please help - what am I missing here? I've F-ed around in the TWRP menu for hours.. cannot see the sdcard or my zips.
Thanks for any help!!!!!

Your internal storage is your SD card directory on HTC One. Or are you talking about the Dual-SIM HTC One?
I think you're searching the wrong directory. Upload a few screenshots. It may be easier for us to help you

Thanks - no, this is not dual-SIM. So, again, I connect the phone to my Win7 PC. I see only one drive with directories like DCIM, Music, Downloads, etc. This is where I move my zips
Then when I boot into TWRP and select a zip to install I cannot see where the sdcard (the above dirs, etc.) are. If I browse to something that says sdcard there are completely diff dirs in there like audio, GPU, mms, TWRP, etc. No Downloads, no Music, etc. And, of course, no zip files.
Is it possible to take screenshots with TWRP?
Well. anyways, somethings not making sense here. I've seen some other posts that say TWRP doesn't see the sdcard and you have to format in FAT32 - tried that but Windows doesn't give me that options.
Thanks so much for any further assistance on this! :silly:

Hello, thank you. The version I flashed is: openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.4-m7vzw - oh, I just realized, it says vzw at the end - does this make a difference? My phone is sprint.
thanks.

[Q] I've rooted my Hero with Universal Androot with Superuser, now what?

I've been looking around different forums but haven't found a dedicated guide for installing a custom rom after using the relatively new Universal Androot the Sprint CDMA Hero.
I'm wanting to install the new CyanogenMod on my Hero since Sprint has made my phone obsolete and hardly usable.
I think the next step is doing a nandroid backup or disabling OTA updates but have been a bit cautious as to I'm new with the Android OS. Can anybody point me to a guide or suggest where I can pick up next? Also can anyone point me to an up-to-date nandroid backup guide?
Thanks.
Make sure you have a custom recovery image flashed on your phone. From there, making nandroid backups and flashing new ROMs is as easy as reading the menu prompts in your recovery image.
You are already rooted so not all these steps will apply to you, but this post here should help get you further along: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
Also, the "Take Control..." link in my signature will be very helpful for you.

Once you've installed a Custom Recovery Image, just boot to recovery (Hold the home button and press power ... hold home until it vibrates). It will boot to recovery, then you can select "Backup/Restore" and "Backup Nandroid". It will ask you to press Home to confirm, and once you do it will create the backup. Once finished, you can install custom roms.
To do this, download the zip for the rom from the forums for that rom, and save it to the root of your SD card. Boot into recovery, and wipe all traces of the current rom. To do this, select "Wipe", then select ext partition, dalvik-cache, and data (wipe each individually in that order). Then, press back button to return to the main screen. Then choose flash zip, and choose the rom zip you saved. Press home to confirm, and it will install. Reboot, and you have a new rom!
Thanks for the great newbie "how to" below, I just finished rooting, want to go to cm6. I know I can do this, have messed with Windows and Pre, but have one question -
how do I get the zip rom to the card? I have been on Treos too long without using card, can see no way to read, see access, to see what goes on it. With this information, I will try immediately - my goal was tethering, increased speed, and flexibility.

Plug your USB cable/charger into your phone and PC. After a second or two, you should see a little USB icon show up in your taskbar. Slide your taskbar down and touch that notification -- it will pull up a little menu with 3 or 4 options -- choose Disk Drive mode. That lets you mount the SD card to your PC, just like a flash drive or memory stick would mount. From there you can put files on, remove files, create new folders, etc.
Put the ROM .zip in the root (main) directory of the sd card to be able to flash the ROM from recovery.
Here's another noob question, I just want to make sure since I've only one phone right now and depend on it for work: What exactly is a Custom Recovery Image?

The custom recovery allows you to do all sorts of things that you can't do otherwise to your phone, such as installing and using all the cool Custom ROM and update zips, installing different kernals for the processor in your phone to set the CPU to what ever you want it to run, wiping various parts of the device it self or on the sd card with all of the the different types of caches and different partitions after changing to a custom rom and being able to make a different partitions and such that you will need to do this to begin with, being able to back up your data and restoring the phone to it's original state or to a state where it was working with a custom rom before having trouble, like if something you have installed is making it crash or force closed.
In other words it is something you need if you want to do anything with your phone to change it from a paper weight like it is to you in stock form to what they can be once it's unlocked...

Locked Bootloader rooted with 3.1

I have just installed 3.1 and have gotten root on my white 16gb retail verison, I will post instructions hopefully tonight.
*bootloader is still locked =/
*******************************************************************
Please Hit me up on Gtalk if you need anything at all. I am almost always available. [email protected]
*******************************************************************
Update*
I found this work for me and these are the steps that I have taken.
First:
Go to this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1119492
Follow the instructions there, once you reboot your tab you will get alot of FC, it is because of the stock android keyboard dictionary. You can curb the FC by switching the keyboard to Samsung keyboard.
Once this step is complete, download this
Root exploit
Place in on the root of your SD card
Turn off your tab
-press and hold the power button
-once the samsung galaxy 10.1 comes up push the volume down button
-release the buttons, this will display two icons
-push the volume down once to select the left icon, then press volume up to enter
-this will load up the stock recovery
-select the option to install update from SD card
-install the root/SU file you just downloaded and put on your SD card
-reboot into android
once rebooted, you should have root. but you still have a little bit of system instability.
-download this
http://droidbasement.com/galaxy/sys-backup/hc_31/hc-3.1_ota-full_sam_tab_10.1.zip
-put it on the root of your SD card
-download the free verison of rom manager
-open it, select the top option, flash clockworkmod recovery, select samsung galaxy tab 10.1
-you should now have CWM flashed
Turn off your tab
-press and hold the power button
-once the samsung galaxy 10.1 comes up push the volume down button
-release the buttons, this will display two icons
-push the volume down once to select the left icon, then press volume up to enter
-this will load up the clockwork recovery
*******DONT WIPE*******
-select the option to install update from SD card
-install the hc-3.1_ota-full_sam_tab_10.1.zip
it will take a little while to install, give it a few.
-Reboot
it will take a while on the samsung screen, give it a few.
once the tab is booted back up, check the version. 3.1
you can go back to using the stock android keyboard as well now.
You also might notice that you have lost root now.
Just reflash the root/su file that we did through the stock. reboot and you have a locked 3.1 with root tab =)

Worked perfectly on a 16 gb retail gray with locked boot loader.
I followed the instructions to the letter. For good measure, i then did a factory reset, followed by a re-root. Boot loader is still locked (as was expected) but considering the speed this was done in, I'm sure it's only a matter of time.
Looks like those two failed exchanges today looking for an unlocked tab were a big waste of time.
Only clarification I want to make is there is no need to check for the OTA (credit for this also to Riztnack)
Absolutely brilliant work.
What do we need a unlocked bootloader for if we have root and CWM?

No reason other than why not. It's nice to have something as open as possible if there's little risk in doing it. I don't really care, I'm already happy.
i take it this method would also work on a retail 10.1 with a unlocked bootloader ??

For a kernel later on, someone might OC the Tab soon.
How do you get into download mode for Odin? I'm trying Power + Vol down, then VOl up. I get a screen with Android icon saying downloading and it goes off immediately.
How do i make it stay on the downloading screen, so that i can flash the file thu Odin as per Step 1?
EDIT : Nevermind got into download mode...was doing it wrong
Can someone please post a mirror or dropbox link for hc-3.1_ota-full_sam_tab_10.1.zip file?

Your boot loader is unlocked (many people's are). Check the other root thread for other people with your situation(even though apparently this method should work as well).
Worked like a charm! Thanks!

you would have to boot the tab up to check if the bootloader is unlocked
at the moment it doesn't matter as we can get root on both the unlocked and locked bootloaders
you only need a unlocked bootloader for flashing new kernals and at the moment we dont have any
the guys got root access in only a few days im sure they will work out how to crack the bootloader soon enough
worked for me, i am getting a few fc(acore, gapps are a cpl processes i noticed) here and there but otherwise it seems good
any diff between this 3.1 and the retail 3.1 in general and specifically regarding the future updates like touchwiz etc ??

[HOW-TO]VERY EASY 4.1.2 to 4.2 update

One super easy way to go to 4.2 from 4.1.2, IMO. This keeps root and current recovery (TWRP). I did it last night. No adb, no PC, all done on device.
I had no issues doing this, but....if you do it's not my fault. You decided to to do it to your device...not me. I doubt you'll have an issue if you follow this to the "T". But by doing this, you agree that I am not responsible for any problems you may have.
1. Download the update via OTA or HERE
2. Must have TWRP recovery! May work on CWM, but I haven't tested it and don't know if it will.
3. If you have flashed a kernel, done the 720p camera mod, altered the build.prop, etc.... you will get an error when trying to flash. I managed to copy most files from a stock rom to get rid of most errors. But the last error was a partition error which I was not to sure how to fix. Best and easiest way is to backup apps with Titanium Backup, then backup the whole sha-bang in recovery. Then download and flash THIS. Make sure you check the root in Aroma....believe it's checked by default.
4.Set it up, then re-install apps with Titanium Backup. DO NOT DELETE, MOD, OR FLASH ANYTHING ELSE!
5. Download and use THIS. You should show "Device rooted", "Root permission granted", and "/system supports root protection" checked.
****Images below are generic from Google Images, may look different on your device****

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Click the "Protect root" button, then "Protected su copy available" should be checked. All boxes now should be checked.
6. Boot into TWRP. Flash the update. (If you did the OTA download and cannot find it, it's in the /cache file. You may need to check mount system in TWRP to access it. You will need to mount system later anyway.)
7. It should flash without any issues if you followed the directions so far.
8. DO NOT REBOOT! STAY IN RECOVERY OR YOU'LL LOSE CUSTOM RECOVERY (TWRP)
9.Make sure system is mounted. Then go to Advanced>File Manager. Go to /system/recovery-from-boot.p and delete or rename the file (recovery-from-boot.p.bak).
10. Reboot to system. Then go back to Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper and click "Restore root".
11. You should be good to go. Doing everything mentioned updated me from 4.1.2 to 4.2, kept root and TWRP.
12. If it worked, and it should have.....please hit the thanks button.:good:
I'm trying this method now . don't know if it 'll be passed or not but Good Work  Thanks :good:

I understand.. I just try to help out and be nice to the new people who are legit struggling. We've all been there and it can be pretty confusing.. Now, don't get me wrong there are also new folks who use it as an excuse to be lazy and not actually do anything.. Those types are hard to nail down though.
Having issues myself.....try this for the OTA update. Haven't checked, but should be like an 80mb file IIRC.

Did you try yo flash a stock rom using Odin in case a problem of the software?
thank you for your reply, i have tried odin with ops and pda selected but it gets stuck at setup connection. And i really need an idiots guide (since its hard to understand what you guys are talking about, im not so advanced) on how to format/wipe phone and install new android with rooting.

You can do it but you need to access to recovery mode to get root and flash custom roms...so
Check that your USB pins are not broken
A VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION: Is your device the GT-S5830 model?
Follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145
1. Install Samsung drivers
2. Download a fiwmware from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-S5830&pcode=0#firmware
3. Follow the prompt C
Try it to avoid your problem, then if you succeed, you could flash a custom recovery and root your device to get a custom rom.
Yes, it is gt-s5830, my usb cabel maybe a little damaged, since it seems i have rolled over it with my office chair, going to buy a new one today. Phones usb seems fine to me.
Thank you for your help. I managed to get my phone working again. I've decided not to root it. Thanks again!

use 2.3.3 XXKPH whit multiple files.. i finished this problem whit this package

Let me advise you something more xD
We have a GREAT ANDROID DEVELOPMENT SECTION with the latest UPDATES and LOTS of ROMS from awesome dev's:
HERE
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1167
AND HERE
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1725
Android 4.0.4 (CM9), 4.2.2 (CM10.1) and 4.3 (CM10.2) are available for us thank to dev's
If you follow dev's instructions to install his rom you won't face any problem
I'd just like to highlight what just happened to your phone as per the pic posted in the op, so that if some newbie with the same problem happens to go by this thread doesn't panic.
Such a problem is usually caused when your phone is disconnected from the computer when it is halfway through the flashing via odin. In this case, your phone gets stuck up at the screen shown in op. But the downloading mode is still accessible. Just reflash stock by getting into the downloading mode via odin & you are good to go.

Do you know how to find which LTE bands this phone supports? I'm with Sprint and would like to know how they locked this phone down. Normal, unlocked HTC 10 phones support bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 13, 17, 20, 28, 29, 30. Sprint must have at least added 25, 26, and 41 but I'm curious to know what they got rid of!
Got mine too about an hour ago!
Can one of you guys confirm whether the Sprint variant comes with FM radio?
Can someone run http://theroot.ninja/diag.apk and give me the identifier please? It collects no personal info, just firmware info.

No FM Radio on mine, but this thing needs a clean rom. Sprint puts too much garbage on it.

This might sound silly but lack of carbon gray for Sprint just tips the balance for me towards getting an unlocked one from HTC and using it on TMo. I've had 6 different black / dark gray Sprint HTC phones, not getting a silver one now...
And there's also the issue of development or lack thereof for Sprint on XDA. Will keep my SERO account active in case the rumored HTC Nexus this year turns out to be comparable to HTC 10...

I'm getting one tonight hopefully. What steps would be involved in doing this?
I was planning on dumping the /system using TWRP for LeeDroid tonight. If there's a way to backup of all of that data before I unlock the bootloader, let me know.

You can take a backup of system image and boot partitions in TWRP and transfer them from your sdcard to your computer. That requires you to first 1) unlock your bootloader and 2) flash TWRP as recovery. Once those prerequisites are complete you can check out this site for instructions on taking the backup http://www.howtogeek.com/240582/how-to-back-up-and-restore-your-android-phone-with-twrp/
Taking a backup of the radio image is a bit more complicated. Make sure you are booted into TWRP and then run "adb shell" from command prompt. After that enter "ls -la /dev/block/platform". You should see it list 7464900.sdhci and 74a4900sdhci. If that's the case, then enter "ls -la /dev/block/platform/7464900.sdhci/by-name" (the one without the letter). It will output a long list of partitions. Scroll down until you see "radio -> /dev/block/mmcblk0pxx". Assuming the partition table is the same across different models, then you should have your radio image at mmcblk0p30.
After confirming where your radio image is all you need to do is exit out of adb shell by entering "exit". Then enter "adb pull /dev/block/mmcblk0p30 c:\radio.img" and your image file will transfer to your PC.
If you need any help feel free to PM me.
Got mine today after visiting multiple stores to track one down.
Bloat includes:
1Weather
Amazon
Amazon Kindle
Amazon Music
Amazon Photos
Amazon Video
App Spotlight
KeyVPN
Lookout
Sprint - (Featured Apps, Family Locator, Fun & Games, ID, Music Plus, TV & Movies, Worldwide, Zone, Tech Expert)
Plus the obligatory Facebook, FB Messenger, and Instagram
Really not that bad though, everything but Sprint ID and Sprint Zone can be disabled, although not uninstalled without root, so it's easy to be looking totally stock within a few minutes of disabling and hiding.

Found this video where he boots TWRP without flashing it first. Would it be beneficial for me to back up the stock recovery to share as well?

From what I've read you can't boot directly into TWRP on the HTC 10. I'm not entirely sure how others are getting the stock recovery. They might be using the same method as for radio, but executing the commands from download mode or bootloader.

Gotcha. So don't worry about backing up the stock recovery?

Yeah you won't need it until you want to go back to stock for an OTA. But in case you want a backup of it, you should be able to use the same method as for radio.img.
