Yellows just can't be gotten rid of. Beside my Nexus 7 2013 it just looks BAD.

Try blue on 150-200 if you have yellow tint

I love the yellow tint and set it Red and Green to 120 and Blue 0.
When I read on the screen my eyes like it.

It's not that the display is not becoming white it's that the whites and other colours are so off. When I use the device I have no qualms but when I put it beside my tablet I realize how bad the colours on the display are. The N7 2013 has amazing calibration. I wish Sony adds changes calibration app of this to be like the Z's. Hue and Saturation controls are there.

I have no problems with the Yellow hue, changed recently my phone with warranty (and I was damn right, it works a LOT better than my other one).
At first the screen of my actual unit was a lot more yellow than the one of the phone I was sending back, so I was really worried. But with just a Factory reset the screen went back to what it was like on my previous Z1. Plus I went to settings and found the White Balance Settings.
Now the Yellow is gone at 98% (I have a very good eyesight) and colours are gorgeous. It blows the Retina of an iPhone 5, it is a real pleasure to watch movies on the screen. Only thing I regret is that with max brightness and low ambiant light, blacks levels looks a bit grayish. Maybe that is why AMOLED users are fan of this kind of screen, I haven't tried to see if AMOLED has the same problem.
Otherwise I don't have any problems.
My settings are 23 red 16 green 78 blue.

[Q] Is the SGS1 display good ?

By good, I mean, free of faults ?
I bought a SGS2 online and waiting for receiving it. But considering the large amount of users having a yellow tinted screen on the left, I'll probably get one of those faulty devices too.
In that case, I'll get it replaced and go for the SGS1, but, as a SGS1, can you tell me if the S1 has the same issue ?
Thanks.
No nothing like that on SGS1 or even i am using SGS2 its also quite fine and no screen tinted issuse.

The wifes sgs2 has tint.
My 1.5 yo sgs1 has had no screen protector ever and is still scratch free and all pixels working like new.
My experience anyway.

sgs1 screen is brilliant i think.
scratch free and you can see it outside when sun is shinning really well.
I had two different HTC phones. And they where both useless outside. could not see a thing.
SGS1 display is nothing less than a benchmark for all the mobile displays out there in the market. First device ever to have such an awesome, vibrant and Gorilla resistant screen. I'm in love with SGS just for its display.
Other not being really sharp up close due to pentile the display is perfect. Bright, great colours and takes a beating.
There are kernels with integrated functionality to correct for any colour tint. To be honest, AMOLED ages really ugly. Contrast is great, colors too, but after a few months of moderate usage, when the screen displays a grey image, the color is not uniform. It has signs of burn-in from place to place. This is the biggest disadvantage of this tipe of screen. I have it since March and sometimes I wish it had SLCD instead. I always have to be carefull not to keep the display on for too long or with the same image and icon layout on the screen.

Not on my phone. Nearly 1.5 yo and no such problems. Greys look fine. I'm always on it too.
Like stated before. Its the benchmark. Slcd sux in daylight.

Not my experience at all. Well over a year old, no screen tint, burn in, loss of colour or missing pixels. Best screen I have seen.
Sent from my Galaxy S using XDA Premium App
I'm 1 year in and can barely see the 'M' from AM/PM before I started using 24-hour clock along with a bit of 'smudges' around the time, and only on a bright solid blue screen.
I could see issues if you set the screen to stay on while plugged in all day and put 10+ hours a day on it (I did that a few times and I think that's where my bit of burnout came from) but for the typical few hours of use a day there doesn't seem to be much of a problem.
Hands down the SGS is the best display I have ever used on a phone!
I also have an Atrix with double the power (including ram) and I still keep uning my SGS. The screen is just way to good...

I agree, on higher brightness and a more vivid color you can't tell if the screen is burned-in. But try this. Get these 2 apps from the market OI Flashlight and OI Color Chooser, open OI Flashlight, press left softkey, Colour and select a very close to dark color and tell me if it's uniform. Maybe there is something wrong only with my screen.
I'm not saying it's the worst screen ever, I'm just suggesting someone should take this minor downside into account when choosing this type of screen, because once you go AMOLED you never go back ;-). You may have second thoughts when some wear will start to appear on the pixels.

[Q] My moto x have purple color at low brightness

Good morning guys!
When I set my brightness to all low I get purplish Grey colors, is that normal? Anyway I'm going to shop some moto x's today at mall to see if they behave the same way.
Thanks in advance.
Yes, normal. I believe its just cuz of the amolded screen. I've noticed same thing first night I bought it brand new out the box.

Normal I think to a certain degree of course.. The phone comes equipped with a Super AMOLED screen which displays pure blacks. The screen is basically off when its displaying black that's why a lot of the menus and active notify is black to reduce power consumption.
I've read in some reviews that the screen behaved like this, with purple in Grey areas.. But I was wondering why Motorola would do that in their top shelf phone, when the brightness is on the minimum value it's a clear purple color when I drag the notification bar down in the messages app.
Idk maybe cause I'm outside but the notify bar is black to me. Maybe you got a lemon

The bar is black but the shadow it makes in the background when you start dropping it is purple in mine.
Could be.. Looks a little bluish purple to me too that's just the screen I think. The nexus 5 has a LCD IPS screen they display true blacks like the iPhones.
My X has the same purple color.

That's probably the only benefit over the X.
I dig the super Amos they are power savers and durable. Screen quality is adqueate enough to be high end its a 720p Samsung panel IMHO it's good for the phone and its makes features possible.
I'm coming from an iPhone 5 and the moto x has waaay deeper black than the iPhone, everything is really gorgeous on the screen except for that purplish at low brightness levels. I personally prefer low brightness at night for eye comfort when using the phone lying in the bed. I'll try to take some pictures and post up here for a comparison.
Anyone else with this purple color too?
When the brightness is either all the way or almost all the way to the minimum, my Moto X and Droid Maxx both look this way. I just don't use auto brightness and keep it bumped up until it's no longer purplish.
Just shopped some phones today at mall. They all had the same purple color at low brightness. This was such an disappointment for me, I really loved the screen but this ruined my experience a bit.

Question about the Display

So my buddy just got the Z1s and he compared the display to his Samsung Galaxy S 4... He likes the darker colors so he's wondering if there is a way to make the colors similar? Looks kinda Faded on the Sony. Whats the best setting for the white balance ?
Thank you!

The technologies on Z1s and S4 are different. S4 uses an AMOLED, which will have oversaturated colors and pure blacks. Both screens have their ups and downs.

I was curious about the white balance settings too... the gray bars at the top of the settings page don't seem to do anything. I've played with the auto brightness on/off which helps in some lighting conditions. (I came from an HTC Sensation, so I prefer the more "realistic" colors of the Sony. The Sammies always look a bit too cartoonish for my taste.)
As stated by first reply, our displays cannot physically shut off pixels and thus cannot obtain the deep blacks of amoled displays.

Green tint when N6 is tilted

Guys I'm noticing this green tint on the glass/screen when the phone is tilted. Its green from all the angles, only when you look at the screen head on you see white. So all whites appear to be green when phone is tilted. This thing is screwing with my eye when I shift from PC to N6 or TV to N6.
Only at extreme angle the camera that I have is able to capture that green tint but to the eye it is visible at the slightest tilt.
Wanted to ask you if you'll are noticing similar issue? Can you please check, post pics from diff angle or even upload a video. It would be very helpful as I can go ahead and consider a replacement if the unit is defective.
Video (sorry about the quality)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFXjRy2sDUk&feature=youtu.be
The verge review mentioned this, mine have it but less noticeable, also didn't bother me at all, I never look the phone at that angles.
this is just a normal amoled thing i believe, my device has it too
Normal for AMOLED displays.
So what do you'll think? Should I ask for a replacement as it is more noticeable then the rest? When I'm on the PC and the phone is sitting on the desk right below the monitor from this angle the top half of the screen is green and the lower half is whitish. Is it normal in the case of amoled displays? Again this is my first device which has an amoled display, never used one before so my eyes may take time adjusting to it. I'm just worried about the unit being defective.
Check the screen for pink and yellow tint, there is a forum about it. The green/blue shift is normal as the nexus 6 uses last generation amoled screens like the ones found on the note 3 and galaxy s4

Is this the yellow pink tint you speaking about? Didn't notice this thing until you mentioned. I think a replacement is needed ...what do you say?
First pic is at max brightness adaptive display setting turned off.
Second pic is the wallpaper I used
Third has brightness at 50% adaptive display setting turned off.
My Nexus has a pink patch on the screen so I'm going to get it replaced but people are saying that it is a lottery and you might get a worse device.
Give it a try, you've paid for the device and it is your right to receive a device without flaws

Warmer colors

JHey guys! I just bought this phone earlier. Got some few questions
1.) Does the charger come with it is a Fast Charger? I got the "3 pronged" one
2.) Is it my eyes or the color temp of the screen is warmer? I adjusted the greens and blues so I could get the whites where my eyes are used to. Did you calibrate yours also? Do note the levels that I adjusted to "my natural white" . Took the picture with Zenfone Max
It comes with the fast charger..
The screen is as it should be imo. Will see if I can write more when I have the time ?

^ alright thanks. I think my reds are explosive
I noticed this if you quickly drag the brightness slider back and forth on a white screen, you do see a red tint
^ but mine is noticable even on stationary brigthness, and it is noticeable if the displayed color is white and red. My reds are way too extreme and and whites have pinkish tints. I took the sample pictures of the screen with crappy cam, but it is palpable when compare the pics side by side

You are right, the red is a bit extreme now that you mention it. but should i choose between this and Samsung and the oversaturation then I would go for this any day. It is much better than the bad displays on the older phones like the arc and z for not to mention the z1

It's an IPS LCD (according to GSMarena) and I have known that IPS is notorious for their backlight bleeding in computer monitors and I have seen a lot but idk if IPS on mobiles are reddish.
