My Xperia Z1s Music Volume is Terrible. - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I recently just got this z1s and I am not please with the music volume. It automatically adjusts my music's volume on bass heavy songs. It is extremely annoying that I have to turn my car stereo and my phone on max to get any type of enjoyable volume. I never had an issue with my s3 doing any of the sort.
Went on a road trip last weekend and had to resort to my old s2 titanium for the trip. I've tried what I believe to be everything, and nothing
Is anyone else having this issue? If so, what are you doing about it?

They never will until it's rootable I guess. Since this is a dev forum, no real development can be done on it till you can at least root it.

Did you try unchecked all the options under settings, audio? There is skating another section in there with an equal that also has more settings to disable. I only use the settings for the external speaker.
Sent from my C6916 using xda app-developers app

Yeah I tried that as well. I've tried multiple equalizers, all ending in the same results.
Right now I'm listening to Google Play Music subscription , with max volume on my headset and handset. I'm listening to Babyface - Loneliness. It's sad that when the bass drops the entire volume is toned down. I hate it.
It's like my phone is telling me the appropriate volume to listen to. There's no problem with that really. My Samsung had that, but I was able turn that off.
My girl has the iPhone 5s. And now has bragging rights lol. Too bad I'm outside of my 14day return policy, or I wouldve waited on that HTC.
Sent from my C6916 using xda app-developers app

So you went to settings, sound, sound effects, settings and made sure everything there was unchecked? specifically clear stereo?
Also make sure normalization is unchecked under settings, sound.
One of those 2 settings gave me the same issue.
I think clear audio under settings, sound (which disables the other seeing options) also causes this issue.
Just get in the and play with the options. One of them is bound to sound right to you.
Sent from my C6916 using xda app-developers app

We just have to face it - this phone overall sucks. Terrible issues with 0 cares from Sony. I was pretty much scammed with this phone, and so were thousands others.
The sound quality of Sony is not bad, but I've never in my life heard a Sony device that had LOUD volume. That includes the Xperia Z1, which has a TERRIBAD speaker. It's not even two speakers, very pathetic for a 'flagship' model. I could never really get it to play loud enough. I have the exact same problem in my car - everything is quite silent and never loud enough.
Z1 is just a huge disappointment in virtually every regard, at least for me. If we have to resort to third party apps or rooting just to have a normal volume boost - things are not good. Avoid this phone if you are considering buying it.

In call sound quality

I love this phone, everything is great except the in call volume, its very quiet, even in a quiet atmosphere im struggling to hear the caller on other end, ive messed with all the settings but its just not loud enough. Do you think there will be a hack in the future to make it louder? Im seriously thinking of returning sadly because of this issue. I had the same issue with the x10i.

Are the speakers really that loud?

I keep hearing how these speakers are suppose to be so loud but mine don't really seem to get that loud, not sure if something is wrong with mine or others are just over exaggerating, I was trying to show them off to a buddy at work and played a YouTube video and we could barely hear it, so then I played some songs straight out of the internal memory and it wasn't really to much louder, I got the volume turned all way up and beats audio on, maybe there is some other eq somewhere I don't know about? My old evo 4g was almost just as loud
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
The one I am sending back were not that loud, but they would fade in and out to really loud to barely being able to hear. Also the crackling.
Mine are really loud with no crackling. The first time I got a notification it was startling how loud they were. Games sound amazing.
Won't be able to say for sure until I get mine Monday, but I went to the sprint store and played with the display today. I think the speakers are a touch over hyped. They are definitely louder than any phone I've had personally...but didn't seem like some people make them out to be.
Again, I'll know for sure Monday..

Mine are extremely loud, my wife and a few coworkers have been taken aback by them. Yesterday my wife texted me while she was upstairs and I was down. After her first text she tested right afterwards telling me to turn my phone down because she could hear it from up there.

For phone speakers they are very loud and clear and people are not exaggerating. You're phone may be alright, you may just have unrealistic expectations for what they can do with tiny speakers in a handset.
My Note II is about as loud but doesn't sound anywhere near as good.

Honestly mine are appropriately loud if that makes sense, well except for when turned down to lowest volume they are STILL kind of loud. It's kind of startling how loud it is, I actually jump sometimes from getting a text or email because it's just abruptly loud. It is something to get used to, but it seems you may have to return yours because it does seem there is something wrong.
A good rule of thumb for max volume on the HTC One speakers is that it should "fill the room" with sound. I can play mine max volume in my room at the other end of the house and hear it perfectly fine while in the kitchen.
I bought one of these when I got my One. I'm use to hearing things this loud so I don't expect much from phone speakers. Ring tones and notifications are crazy loud. Music isn't to crazy on my phone. I usually have my goodie bag of stuff, extra charger, external battery, this speaker, ipad, twinkles, you know the usual.

No unrooted stock
Mines is no sound also, completely stock still.
Oddly enough, mine also didn't have a sound when stock.
Was your phone on silent or vibrate before you rebooted? I swear it disables the start up sound but I could be wrong. It annoyed me so I deleted the sound file anyway.
Also, I wish the max volume could be lowered. The minimum volume is still freaking loud.

After having the phone a couple weeks or so now, and letting the epic feeling wear off. I've realized that while the speakers sound pretty good, HTC "boomsound" is a letdown.
My girlfriends s3 is just as loud but doesn't sound as good. Tonight the power went out at work at we gathered in the break room..a bunch of us starting watching YouTube videos. Granted I could barely load any with Sprints crappy network (and most definitely not hq) but when it did play, some dudes crappy LG was drowning my "boomsound" completely out.
The speakers are loud and do have a better sound than a lot of phones, but they are over rated. I like them, but I'm still slightly disappointed
Sent from my HTCONE using xda premium
I also found my speakers weren't incredible loud, the quality was amazing for being on a phone, but if i'm in an environment where people are talking, or outside and it's windy at all i have a hard time hearing the phone, but it is consistent, no fading or crackling or anything

Call comes through speaker!!

Hi All,
Since the past two days, whenever someone calls and I pick up the phone, the sound comes through the speaker, i.e. very high. I have to reduce that sound using the volume buttoms. This happens with only a few calls, not all. I have a screen protector on the phone, as usual.
I have restarted, reset, etc. to no success.
Can anyone suggest what the problem is?
Thanks

I have done that yesterday as well. No luck. The problem still persists.
mine is like that as well. i can hear it even in the back of the phone... I checked clearsound and uncheck xloud and it got a little better but i still need to turn down the volume to people not listen to my conversation :x
when you state "speaker" you are referring to the speaker on the bottom right?
or do you mean the vibration through the back (near the camera area)?
edit: just did a test, it feels like its coming out from the speaker speaker but its not, the sound feels like its actually coming from the near back. I guess its not sealed tightly or just xperia z has really good loud earphone speaker.
No i was talking about the call speaker. Sry if i misunderstood

this is the hong kong and taiwanese flagship we will get it
Definitely Taiwan will get it first! Look at One X+, Taiwanese version got 4.2 before all the others.
I really hope they fix the audio crackling at high volumes, perhaps my unit has a defective headphone amplifier, but another user, tsokh, also noticed the same thing =/ Galaxy S4 with Snapdragon 600 had a similar problem, but I contacted HTC the rep told me that nobody else has complained to them about this issue (but then again I contacted HTC North America not Taiwan, a bit of a language barrier and they give you similar replies everytime there).
Also Beats Audio is kinda buggy if you listen to speakers with Beats on, and plug in your headphones the volume increasing effect of Beats is actually reversed and it actually decreases your volume, then turning Beats off actually increases the volume (leading to the audio crackling too). Even worse, after I do this, I start getting an occasional audio ZAP like not crackling but a loud squeak at the same location of a song.

It's noticeable only on some type of music and only with high level of volume - you can't hear anything with moderate volume level.

It's only occurs with songs that have a slow deep bass, example would be the slow part of Touch by Daft Punk, some R. Kelly songs. With most songs audio quality is great but I notice a little bit of high-pitched EMI on the left channel at the beginning of each track.
The audio crackling is very apparent with in-ear headphones and earbuds, if you have the volume above 11/15. I find 12/15 to be the ideal listening volume so I do notice it a little bit, but using PowerAMP it SOMETIMES doesn't happen. (but with PowerAMP I get occasional audio popping as opposed to the crackling distortion)
With higher impedance on-ear headphones you only get it at the maximum volume setting (Beats off).
The HTC rep advised me to have it checked with RMA (I might just go to a service center in Taiwan to ask about it the next time I go, it takes about 2 weeks for a factory repair though)
Does anybody use Bluetooth for listening to music? If it doesn't happen on Bluetooth it might be the headphone amplifier.

are you getting the same problem? I thought it made sense because the Butterfly s uses the same chipset as the i9505 GS4 which also had its own share of audio problems. It might only affect a few units as daorderdillon says he doesn't have the same problem with the song in question. It may also be that only 901e are affected as he has 901s.
Strangely I never got this problem on my One X+ but I did get constant skipping which bothered me but mostly only happens if the screen is on and I'm doing something with the phone. Original HOX had a bad DAC and a lot of users disliked the audio quality (never tried myself), HOX+ much cleaner but kinda lacking in bass and treble.
The new update does seem to make the touch screen more responsive. I was having problems with the shift key and the back button, also playing Lep's World 2 where the jump button didn't always respond (perhaps it's because they updated it recently). Finally, there used to be a continuous hiss in the background even after you stop music playback. With IEMs the hiss is still quite noticeable at the beginning and end of songs (including a high-pitched EMI on my left speaker), but it stops soon after you pause the music.

There isn't much difference actually the camera seems the same. Keyboard and buttons seem to be more responsive as I had some problems before under the screen protector.
Also, charging animation means your screen will always be on, I only realized this yesterday and I really hate it - what if your screen burns in? (good thing it's not AMOLED, but still there might be some retention as I get that on my iPad 2) Right now the only solution is to charge under standby mode.

Sound issue

I'm having a issue where I'm getting no sound from media. No videos or music plays from my speaker. I can't even hear the person on the other line but my alarm goes off and it's audible. My notifications are audible but nothing from other sources. Anybody know what might be wrong? I've flashed different ROMs, I tried to power cycle, and even did a rain dance.
Any help would be great!

Sounds like your phone thinks a headset is connected. Check the Jack is unobstructed. If it is, flash back to stock, factory reset and speak to Google / Moto about a replacement / repair.

Mine did that after I rooted it.
The solution that worked for me was to reflash. After that, I rooted it again and the issue didn't return.
