[q] golf gps help - Samsung Galaxy Gear

Is there a way to get a GPS Golf app working on the Gear?
I have one coming and am willing to root and flash ROM and all that if its what it takes. Based on my current internet exploring, I cant seem to find a single thing on it and it is frustrating me. Anything at all will be greatly appreciated.
The rumor is that NAVI golf works on the Gear but it clearly says it doesn't support it in the playstore.

no built in gps on the gear, sorry.

Using GPS on phone?

Even using the GPS on the phone?
How can that not work, I am just at a loss of words here. I guess I should have researched more before making purchase.

Golf navi plus is available for the galaxy gear through the "Samsung apps" application located in gear manager. Not the playstore.

Really?

I receive mine tomorrow so I am unable to look until then, but this is promising.
Does anyone have success with this app? If so I would love to see a picture or screenshot or something.
Thanks for the info

Thank you, I can't believe after countless hours of Googling....xda does it again within minutes.
This is very encouraging, tomorrow should be nice.
I will report back on how it works for others.
Many Thanks 440bro!!

I've never tried it, but it looks pretty cool! I hope you enjoy it, and glad I could help.
Make sure you report back with how much it improved your game!

Put null Rom on your gear. Then you can have pretty much any app you want on your gear. If you want GPS from the phone on the gear look at the xda tutorial below. I use gear location bridge.

I followed this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2511760 and the one in above post and then used Skydroid from app store very good app and can download course at home by using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371345 :good::good:

Sweet
Thank you all for your help!
My Gear is in route to my house so I will be rooting, roming and setting up GPS asap.
Should I go ahead and pair it up as if it was stock to gain partnership with my S4 before I do all this or do you think I would be fine to root/flash right out of box?

There's no reason not to root and rom right away. Pairing first won't gain anything, you'll need to re connect once the rom is installed. I'd start downloading everything you need now. Root files, wondershare, and rom files. Make sure all your ducks are in a row, and do a dry run of the procedure to familiarize yourself.
On a personal note, I like to try things stock for a day or so first. This way I have a better comparison of stock vs rom.

Galaxy Gear and Lg G2

Hello friends,
Just bought a LG G2 and i'm very interested about the Gear is more beautiful and with much options then the Sony SW2.Anyone have a Gear connected to G2 or in future they will can be connected?
I switched from gs4 to LG g2. I love this phone! But I also love my watch. I've been working on it for along time. I got tablet talk on my gear so it will show my text.
Hopefully an update comes soon so we can use gear on any android phone and have everything working! This will do I suppose.

lg g2 and gear
any news to connect with lg g2???
My girl has a Gear and G2, it connects and she can read her call logs and use the media player but doesn't get any notifications. I just installed the gear manager and all the apks associated with it. No issues with connecting to LG G2. Gear is running ML1 update with Null 19 and she is using Gear Manager v1.6.

Yeah, such a shame... I think originally Samsung thought everyone was gonna go nuts over the Gear and that they would sell more phones as a result. But that didn't work out... I think at this point, they should just make it so it works on any phone.

I think you may need the ATN Manager app to get the notifications on the Gear.

Found this on a web:
You can root the Galaxy Gear, you can also install custom ROMs on it. You can then also use it on any android 4.3+ phone.
Check out XDA for all the info.

Only issue right now is that the LG G2 is only on 4.2.2 right now. Until they bring out Kit Kat.
Now I am willing to ROOT/FlASH to whatever rom I need to to make this work (im bored and like the way it looks). I appreciate your swift answer. I have 4 hours to figure this out while Battlefield 4 downloads
Custom rom makes no difference to compatibility
There are several threads here already for non touchwiz rom/phones. Same applies to all of them
Essentially you need gearmanagerstub apk installed in /system/app (check downloads in my sig). Then you get some of the functionality. Pretty much need 4.3 or higher also

You'll need gear manager. To install gear manager, you need to have gearmanagerstub.apk in /system/app on your phone
Once gearmanagerstub is there, install gear manager, then install the extra 21 apks (2 won't install)

When gm runs for the first time, it installs extra apk files automatically. For some reason this only occurs on touchwiz roms, so you'll need to install them manually instead
If you check the link in my sig, you'll be able to download them all. weather and another wont install unless you have the correct touchwiz apps

Yeah I have a G2 and it works fine. I get calls but most other notifications dont come through. Text/email/weather. This may be limited to my 4.2.2 . What ROM are you flashing to? I would like to know how you like it because I may do that as well if flashing to 4.3 gives added functionality with gear manager. Right now im using the oldest version of gear manager.

Gear Manager Flash or mod

After having the Gear Manager update and trash my watch again it had me thinking about not just the watch but the actual phone controller, I started wondering if anyone had thought about modifying the Manager? could do some interesting things perhaps?

The problem is if the user isnt using my rom, I dont know if it will repair.. the stock bluetooth settings are very limited as I'm sure your aware.
It wipes so the hand shake between the gear and the phone is remade I believe.
I think thats why Samsung wipes upon gear manager updates, also the gear is intended to be connected to one phone & one phone only.

One thing I did until about 3am last night was install all the developer software including Cygwin and had a play..... have I got the time to develop my skills in this area? well no and I am starting to realize this lol but if I decide to in a crazy moment ......
I also have come to the conclusion a smart watch is just that, I will never surf the net on my watch when I have a very good S4 to do that, I will be watching what develops next year and hope there will be an S5 and a Gear 2 bundle :cyclops:
No doubt when I go back to the Pilbara next year I will be stuck out onsite when they are released, I see comments out in the wild about what people expect from their smart watch like not needing to be tethered or to have WIFI but all this means there will be an increase in size or shorter battery time, the camera even is a little limited and I dont use it much as you get strange looks, out Glasshouse mountians couple of weeks ago and it sure looked like I was Creepin lol but I wasnt of course

I think the one watch one phone thing is key to decision to wipe. But also when you update gear manager, it removes apps on phone and then reinstalls

Back on modding apk. It's a pain. It doesn't really recompile properly (neither main apk or sub apk)

The End of ME

As most of you who have read my various posts, I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT KNOW WHAT I AM DOIN.
Well, I finally did it. Kept tinkering and tinkering and I finally bricked it.
Using the Recovery vehicle I did a wipe of EVERYTHING, including the system. So now my watch says there is no operating system installed and simply boots to the Galaxy Gear logo. There is no system on the phone any longer thanks to me.
So fellas, am I done. Shall I go and purchase a pebble watch with rudimentary notifications and leave the big boys alone. I know a lot of you are saying good, we don't have to worry about him and his elementary questions any more.
If I don't hear from anyone in the next several hours for assistance I will be heading to Best Buy to buy a pebble or something that can't be modded.
Well fellas, I am asking for you guys to bail me out here and I promise there will be no more elementary stupid questions in the future
use odin to flash stock rom.... and don't mod it afterwards it's a freaking watch no need to root or install null. I have been rooting and flashing roms since 2008 and haven't had a reason to alter my galaxy gear..... no point
If you're getting the Samsung it's not bricked. There just isn't anything to boot because you erased it. BRICKED means nothing happens when you try to turn it on. Search for "Odin back to stock" and READ

Very difficult to brick the gear, calm down take a few breathes..
Download a stock rom, flash in ODIN under the "AP" option.
OR
If your using my rom, you should still have it on your SDCARD, simply reboot into recovery & reflash.
If you don't have it backed up... follow these instructions toward the bottom

All the things I use my Gear for most besides being a watch require Null ROM and root. Without it, it's be a glorified watch instead of a complete extension of my phone and tablet.

The best way to learn your way around Android is by bricking a device or two. Don't let this be the end of your Android hacking days.

Thanks alprazolam I needed that assurance,
Fletch, I agree but for the rooting and customization I would have thrown this device away. It is this forum and the members' development and customization skills and knowledge that has made this rushed out under developed item a piece of art and a more than useable tool. Not only have the guys here brought out the full potential of the watch but they saved it from being a complete disaster.
Before purchasing this watch I knew nothing about custom rome and rooting. I had to come here out of desperation because but for the abilities of the members here I would have thrown away $300 and this watch would have been sitting in a drawer collecting dust. The guys here made this watch one of the best and most exciting pieces of electronics I have purchased. Has the learning been tough and painful. Of course. But I am learning a lot thanks to everyone here and their patience.

Yep. I haven't rooted this thing nor do I plan to. If I wanted my watch to look like my phone, I never would have gotten the watch. I would have continued to pull my N3 from my pocket to tell the time. Besides, how tiny are those apps on this thing with a custom rom? I've been buying the Note line for the screen size. I'm not sure why I would want a smaller screen. Just my 2 cents.

Amen.
I bought the N3 for a phone and the gear as a watch. And it's simplicity is perfect in my opinion. Elegant and does what it needs to.
This doesn't mean I haven't considered rooting and playing with it like all I do with all my other gadgets, but in the end, to me, it's perfect as is. Simple and clean.

You dont need to root to use sideloaded apps.. thats just a matter of enabling USB debugging.
You root so you can use custom widgets & wallpapers.. if your happy with the generic clock faces or watchstyler, by all means stick with stock

I would love that too... I like how the poster left absolutely no information about that mod.
I came from the Note Edge I appreciate the option to upgrade to S6 Edge Plus after Lolipop totally ruined my phone. But I gotta tell you I miss the edge function. Why Samsung couldn't make that happen with this perfect phone I don't know. I'm only hoping with everyone thinking this phone is a gimick will make Samsung prove that it is not!
I don't have this phone...yet... but my first thought would be to try Tasker.

Can someone who's rooted try and extract com.samsung.android.app.cocktailbarservice and send me the apk? If I can get the intents from the manifest file I might be able to make tasker work. Never really tried anything like this before but I think that's what I need.

I've been working on a solution with Tasker but I can't get it to work. It seems to do what I'd need I'd have to root and currently I'm not willing to do that(phone is on TMo's Jump thing...) If you are willing to root, trailblazer101 wrote a mod that can do this Cocktail AutoOn
Can someone who's rooted try and extract com.samsung.android.app.cocktailbarservice and send me the apk? If I can get the intents from the manifest file I might be able to make tasker work. Never really tried anything like this before but I think that's what I need.

Any luck with your Tasker solution? What approaches did you try? I'm simply trying to emulate the swipe, but I can't figure out how to do up/down in a single shell command...it's doing two separate swipes. And I can't confirm they would work with the display off. Also, I've been unsuccessful in finding an intent/activity that I can use to launch the cocktail bar.

Sorry, no luck. I did get a hold of the file but wasn't able to find anything useful and I've since switched to the note 5 so I haven't played with the edge in a while.
I tried simulated swipes but they won't work with the screen off which is exactly what we need. I was going to have Tasker use an intent to fire up the service/screen but I didn't see anything in the apk that would help. I'm no expert by any means though so there's a 95% chance I just didn't see something right in front of my nose.
it's very difficult !!!!
*** but Cocktail AutoOn work with Lollipop 5.1.1 ??

Somebody with a g925 did it, supposedly...IIRC he had it working on 5.0 already, then restored data with TB.
It was a long shot, but I tried getting it to work on my g928 unsuccessfully. I found in his manifest what I think is an intent to launch his mod...if I could get his mod to work on this device, I could use that intent...

It's incredible that SAMSUNG has not yet implemented this mod on our Galaxy S6 edge without root... very sad

James Bond Clock theme

I am a great fan of James Bond movies. As I have a smartwatch I would like to have a Clock in it with a JB look and feel.
Someting with a text of a movie or the DB5-car in it.
Is there anything?
i want it too

Install from the Play Store the app "Watchmaker Premium" and you can design your own watchface.
But you can also download a lot of smartfaces from the internet, created by others.
Like these ones here : https://facerepo.com/app/search/results?sortOrder=relevance&query=james+bond&page=1

Yes, they are.
You can flash Android Wear onto your Gear 2 Neo
(I did that on my Gear 2 and it works very well).
how well does android wear run on the gear2 neo and can you go back to stock tizen is it buggy does it offer more features ?

Android Wear runs really smooth and stable on the Gear 2 (and Neo).
It is far more customizable than Tizen and it has more apps to use in the Play Store.
The last stable and full version is based on Android 5.1.1, but there is also a version 6.0.1 which is currently in beta and in development. But I have the beta 2 running and it works really well.
Try it and you won't be disappointed. And you can turn back to Tizen if you want to.

I get easily 3 days with moderate use.
But that is with screen and gestures turned off.
The screen will only lid up for a few seconds when a new notification arrives.

Oh, right on. I've been reading that Android wear has such a terrible battery life, hence the reason I haven't used it yet. Good to know that you can disable the always-on feature. Do you have a link for what you used to install it?

Yes, you can find the latest version here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-2/development/please-help-kernel-compiling-android-t2992953
There are installation guides on Youtube, it's actually very simple.
And you can return to Tizen if it turns out that you don't like AW.

i did end up finding a thread with the AW tar.md5 and i flashed it in odin. It booted, did the synch thing (took a while, but thats understandable) and eventually got the the GUI. All well and good, it was pretty responsive and looked really cool, but it wouldnt synch with the android wear app on my phone. The apk on the phone wouldnt find the device, but i could pair it via bluetooth settings, so i know that the bluetooth functionality was working on the watch and the phone, just not within the app. I uninstalled and reinstalled it, no change. Rebooted both devices, no change. I even factory reset my phone and reinstalled the app, no change. So i ended up restoring the tizen rom. Luckily, i made a root gear 2 neo thread because the restore tar.md5 provided in the AW thread didnt work, but mine did

Did you use the ZIP file from the thread I posted earlier ?
Because there is the latest version (4th of March release).
You flash the file in ODIN indeed and then it takes a while for the rom to boot up.
After that, follow the instructions on the screen of the watch.
The only thing you have to look out for, is that you use the AW app on your phone to pair the phone with the watch.
Do not pair it directly in the BT settings.
If you had your watch paired once before in the AW app, you have to "forget watch" in the AW app first, because the AW app then "holds" the watch but will never connect.
I don't know exactly what went wrong with your flash, but I would suggest not to give up so easily and try it again.
For any help, you can use the thread I posted earlier.
And also use Youtube to actually seeing how to install the AW rom onto your Gear 2 Neo.
Good luck.

I'll give it another whirl this weekend. I'd love to have aw on my watch as I'd like to run a cm ROM and Samsung gear manager doesn't work on cm. Also, I initially paired it in bt settings, then unpaired it and it still didn't work. Then I even reflagged the aw ROM on the watch and redid the process and it wouldn't pair. I'm not a newb, and I know I followed the instructions to a t, but it could have been a bad download. I'll not give up! I just haven't had time to readdress it yet. 3 day weekend should allow for it tho
Thanks man. It was just a bad version of AW. I downloaded the most recent one from March, and it's working like a charm!! I'm just going to hafta familiarize myself with AW vs tizen. Thanks again man!

So, it's working quite well, just one thing. Can you not answer calls on this ROM? I can't seem to find where to enable that

Correct, currently you can't make calls on the watch (using the watch microphone and speaker).
The developer of the AW port (Biktor_gj) still needs to work this out.
However, he's recently became a dad of a beautiful daughter....so his spare time is now taken up by her (which is of course logical).
But you should be able to at least answer the call (swipe to answer) and take the call on your phone.
Right on. Thanks!
