Dirty Unicorns is a custom ROM built with stability in mind and optional customization. The idea to start this ROM began out of pure boredom around 4.1.2 on the EVO 3D and later turned into a form of an addiction (a good one) to see where we could go from there. We have since expanded to more devices to include the HTC One, Nexus 5, SGS4 and many more. We quickly realize that users loved what we were doing as well as other developers because it was done the right way. We've always had fun doing it and take pride in knowing that we've done it without having to bug the end user for donations to pay for server costs and/or any of those sob stories you hear. This ROM is 100 percent free and will remain that way.
Those wanting to use our ROM as a base are more the welcomed to do so but please maintained the credits/thanks below, do not ask for donations as it wouldn't be fair to do so considering and let us know as we often like to contribute to other projects.
As stated above, we love to maintain authorship but we also like to publicly praise those that have helped us along the way with our wonderful project. With that said, this wouldn't be possible without the work and help of those listed below THANK YOU ALL!!

yes basically they are qcom media/display from cm with modified makefiles
with these flags in the BoardConfig.mk
TARGET_QCOM_DISPLAY_VARIANT := v500
TARGET_QCOM_MEDIA_VARIANT := v500
also look at the du.dependencies file in the device tree

Nice rom, thx.
I found one major bug so far: Nav bar is missing when screen is rotated with 270°. I hope you can fix that.

Smooth, fast and stable. My games are running better than ever. Rotation sticks after using in landscape mode sometimes, but really liking this. A few too many options, but mainly because I don't use all of that. I can learn to. Thanks for this.

No. Not unless someone figures out how to let you guys on safe strap use custom kernels.
that's the reason you guys can't use any aosp based roms

Massive kernel update (~100 commits) will be in the next build.
Also, afaik only thing not working is VOIP mic
is the kernel f2fs compatible or do I still have to use kt or alucard?
Thanks in advance

I already posted a problem at DU site from G+.
My problem is that, when i restart my phone, the theme i applied right before through ThemeChooser is getting reset, just the statusbar stays modded.
The System Settings, all of the themed apps, as well the lockscreen buttons look like non-themed (Holo standart) after restart.
After research on my phone i found out, that it has something to do with xposed framework, I 1st thought it's caused by an module, but i deactivated all of em step by step and rebooted every time and after deactivating the last one still nothing happens, BUT when i uninstall the xposed framework themes works fine after reboot
I post here also cause here is a huge range of people that can read that and maybe someone else has the same problem
Disable the framework and switch in developer options to Art. Runs very much smoother and more responsive

This is an issue across multiple ROMs with the theme chooser. It crept up in the past couple weeks.
It is *extremely* difficult for us to assess issues while xposed is installed.
Essentially, you use Xposed mods at your own risk.
There's no way I can adapt the ROM to work with xposed mods. The mod devs need to conform to the ROM

No worries, i just didn't know what the hell was goin on there, not using a lot of modules but some are just awesome ^^
Keep up your great work, maybe one day there will be a solution
EDIT:
After some more research i found this one here in THIS Thread:

Thank you.
I think I have tracked it down to this commit: https://github.com/CyanogenMod/andr...mmit/8fff544ec349593cfa61ae2f5ec59419fff666b6
The Xposed framework is calling getPackageInfo (actually getPackageInfoNoCheck, which calls it) in order to get an LoadedApk object, which it uses to get the resDir and (most important) the classLoader used by the application. This is called very early (in handleBindApplication). At this time, I assume the theme settings haven't been propagated to the app yet. Also, it's unlikely that this method has been called before.
Anyway, what the commit wants to change is that it can simply recreate the Resources object instead of the whole LoadedApk. That should work fine with Xposed. However, there is another change in logic that might be unwanted. The Resources object is created in any case now. That makes a big difference, because the handleInitPackageResources() hook fires before the handleLoadPackage(), and the Resources object is probably created without theming information.
If the lines were this instead, everything should work as before:
Code:
if (packageInfo.mResources [B][COLOR="Red"]!=[/COLOR][/B] null
[B][COLOR="Red"]&&[/COLOR][/B] !packageInfo.mResources.getAssets().isUpToDate()) {
packageInfo.mResources = null;
packageInfo.getResources(this);
}
It seems to be an oversight to me, because the commit message just says "Instead of creating a new LoadedApk when resources are not up to date, we use the existing LoadedApk but recreate mResources." If mResources == null, no Resources object hasn't been created yet, so it can't be outdated. It doesn't seem necessary to create the object in any case, even if the caller hasn't asked for it (yet).
I would have to go through major hoops to detect and hopefully handle this change. I'd much more prefer if this could be changed in CM. Does anyone know if Clark Scheff / Andy Mast are on XDA to provide some feedback on this? Otherwise, I guess I would have to check out the source to submit a change request, huh? Or if anyone else who could follow my explanations wants to submit this, feel free to do so.

So if someone else popups again with that problem you know what's up
Tried it out, and was really impressed with the rom.... Rock solid, with just those mods that really make it one good rom. Are there plans to include exfat support? Please say yes...

OHHH SNAP!!!! This just got real!!!
Good job Jmz!!!
Kudos for the job well done and in record breaking time, Jmz. :good:
Custom kernel??
I must say that this seems to be running pretty smooth! I have had it running for about 30 minutes so far and the only thing I have noticed it that the left side is a little warm. Is this ROM aokp or cm based? Other than that GREAT JOB TO THE DEV!!
Very nice ROM.. I can't get root though. Am I missing something?

Im sorry but I can't reproduce this. I have completely wiped mine and have superuser just fine. Under Settings do you have a SuperSU option at the bottom?
Any chance to port it to N5100?
I do have it in settings and if I run root checker it validates that I have root. I don't know why I was getting those messages. It seems to be working fine and all of my root required apps are functioning just fine. Must have been a glitch because I didn't have super SU in settings at first when I first posted.
This ROM is amazing. I have my favorite that I always go back to as I like to try them all and this is now one of my favorite.

I really like the pic that is in the boot animation and was hoping it would be in the wallpapers. There are some awesome pics in that but no red unicorn. I was wondering I'f you could take that red shot of the dirty unicorn and incorporate it somehow into the wallpaper selections?
Its worth at least asking. And as an update, everything is running great, root and all.

I am inlove!!!!! The only two issues I am having is the my documents keeps forceclosing and when I charge my device while it is turned off it does not show the battery gauge animation. Other than that, this ROM is AMAZING! Thank You!
JMZ, quick question, on the download page at the top where we pick our devices, I noticed one of the devices was "i650" . What device is that?
I know it's kind of off topic, and I apologize for that.

Thanks for this awesome release!
The only problem I found is that in Settings -> Buttons there isn't a place to configure the frontal physical buttons (home, back, menu). How can I set Home Long Press to open recent apps?
Gravity box for xposed let's you program buttons
Can I use CM11 gapps for this?
Does this have sdcard mounting problems like CM11?
Where is the link for the rom? I xcan't see anything after i go to the link page!

That's the link. It automatically downloads the rom when you click on it. You may want to check you file manager as you may already have it if you clicked on that link.

| OmniROM | AOKP | CM | ChaOS | Paranoid Android | Slim ROMs | Preludedrew | Team Black Out | Official Testers / Translators |
Please check our gerrit/github for full credits/thanks of individual contributorsBelieve it or not, we are human and we do forget things. If we have left someone out of the credit/thanks list, just PM us and we'll gladly add on to the list.

A small statement from my side:
I may not always have time to check my threads. I usually stay on top of things, but real life happens and real life is even more important to me than everything else, especially my family !
When reporting bug's, or requesting new features, the best way to make sure your heard, and a sure fire way to get things done is using our Jira site. There's always someone monitoring this, so if I'm tied up, there's a good chance that by reporting here, your issues will be resolved quickly. Remember, before you post anything, take into consideration what your issue is:
-- Could it be a gapps issue?
-- Are you running a different kernel than the one provided that could be causing problems?
-- Are you running any unsupported Xposed modules?
If not, use this tool to your advantage and make life easier for us all! You need to create a simple user name and password to access the site. It'll only take a few seconds, and Neither of these can be seen by us, it's just a security measure.
Here's a link to the site: http://jira.dirtyunicorns.com/browse/DU-60?filter=-3
Please make sure before posting a bug or/and a feature request in JIRA, that no one else has already posted it before.
And do all of us an favour and respect the following:
-- No asking for ETA's
-- No asking for integrating Hover, cause we will NEVER integrate Hover into the rom !
-- We don't accept any form of donations
-- Don't think you are an customer and we own you a thing, cause we don't own anything to you guys
-- Don't ask for ART support, yes you can use ART within the rom, but don't ask for support when running into any issues
-- When you're going to post an bug in JIRA, please provide us as much information as you can and grab a logcat if it's needed
I don't have the experience and the acknowledgement as Jake and others of our team, I will work hard to get into that stuff as soon as possible, but this will definitely take some time, also i'm doin graphics for Dirty Unicorns, have my real life & my family, so if you respect all those things we will be fine !!!
Uh maybe Im missing something but whats the difference between this and the one thats already been posted?

I have to say.... I haven't been running AOSP ROMs in about 6 months since I stopped doing Carbon builds and just came back to the aosp side and gotta say.... Really enjoying Dirty Unicorn. Nicely done to the DU team and maintainers. Keep it up
Otherwise a great rom. But it won't allow me to change lockscreen wallpaper no matter what I do.
Using 7.9

I just want to chime in and thank you and all the DU devs for the incredible work you're all doing.
I'm on v. 7.8 (a weekly build from August) and continue to follow the development but I'm so happy with the status quo I'm not in a hurry to take an update. I'll sit back and watch the fun!
This is truly an awesome ROM!

Got to Dirty Tweaks/Quick Settings and an QS tile for it.
Thank you for the quick response. I already did that but the tile says disabled. I tap it to turn it on but that doesn't do anything. Is there anything else I can do?

Correct, weeklies will start either tomorrow if not......next week for sure
I contacted our Jenkins guy and I let him know to add Falcon to it but he might not get the message until tomorrow which might be too late for him to do anything about it.
AND no, DU does not have multi-sim support.......sorry :/

Awesome ROM ! So many customisation. Just love it
I ve been using it for one hour.
Just have to make a reboot cause Google play didn t recover my apps.
But for now, no bug at all ! Rom is very smooth. Camera and GPS work great. No FC's... Will see for battery life in a while.
Very good job. Thanks DU Team.
Just one question : is there a way to change the tiles size ? (They look a little a bit too small). Thx

In the quick toggle settings, there should be an option for choosing how many tiles to be displayed. By default it will be set to 5. Just change it to 3.

Wooow really fast and super smooth rom with so many options and tweaks.
Thanks a lot to everybody who is involved in this project !!
Trying out this ROM and I can say that it's a wonderful rom. Really smooth and fast.
Still finding my way through stuff as I came from Carbon and CM11.
Couple of questions:
How is it that root access is being questioned in the following apps? (Titanium backup says it may not work with some apps 4.3+; Lucky patcher says it's invalid or something like that.) Installing SuperSU seems to be a solution for this.
The new CM11 theme engine is incorporated in this, yes? How is it that I am unable to change themes on the fly? By on the fly I mean being able to change and seeing he changes right away. In Liquidsmooth I still had to reboot to see complete changes like navbars and such.
Otherwise great work for bringing this to us and to top it all off, it's already a milestone release.

Am not too sure about themes because it works perfectly for me. Its not different. Did you full wipe coming from another ROM? That could be the issue.
It relation to root am not too sure as well as I had that issue am guessing it don't installed properly. I will get the setup later. Its only a milestone because that's where the current release is at [emoji12].

I see. Perhaps it's because I've tried whilst the system was first run. Not that much of a deal breaker for me though
Right now just uncovered that the swipe aosp is not working for me, it results in an fc.
Really nice rom, i don't know if it feels like water, but it is smooth indeed
I just noticed one problem, concerning Viper4android.
I just can't install drivers, it teels me there's a problem with busybox, i tried different busybox installers (including stericson) and no way to make it work.
Other than that, it is just awesome.
And the kernel is working great too, dt2w and so on.
Thank you for sharing your work :good:

Excellent rom, great work friend , but I have some drawbacks:
1. long lag in the browser
2.- much lag in the gallery
3.- I can not install Viper , I have some sort of error with busybox or root
4. the phone hangs and you need to restart
Rest all good, keep up the good work
For those (like me) having some troubles with viper4android, it seems like the problem comes from super user app, installing supersu resolved all my problems.

well no lag here...
one thing that annoys me though, but it is somehow a problem with all custom rom´s except cm11 official... the multi-task button responses very randomly... sometimes in-time, sometimes it needs a sec to load...
edit: changing to slim recents panel fixed it for me
thanks J0kker, viper4android works for me now
Has anyone experienced a GPS lock issue on this rom?
I wonder what i did, but since yesterday, it seems that my phone is stuck at max frequency (1190 mhz).
Switching governors has no effect, enabling eco mod result in two active cores, but still at 1190 mhz (or offline).
I was playing around in notifications area, with active display, halo and so on... i've desactivated all of those but still, my cpu won't go under max frequency.
And of course, i tried modifying min freq with no result.
I'll try to reflash rom with keeping data to see if it can help... (it is a clean install).
Still, this rom feel so smooth, i love it.
chrome such in floatng window
I tested out the floating window option. Just as i have on carbon and the same thing happens even after you check the floating window option off. The chrome app wont open normally. Does anyone know how to fix this? I have read his problem on other roms and devices but haven't found a fix.

This is the first ROM I've installed on my Peregrine, and I am very impressed by it. It runs even smoother than the CM11 ROM on my Nexus 7 (2013)! :good:
Downloading it right now, mostly to see it in comparison to AOKP, as on my old device liquidsmooth was always a little bit faster and smoother and lasted longer.
The organisation in drawers (KK) makes me hope for continued support on lollipop?

Well I can say they have been working on one for a while since lollipop was released. I will be building one for us when I can [emoji2].
Am going to be releasing another build hopefully today at some point to fix superuser and remove the so called"optimisations" that make it faster because so the opposite is true. As with building the ROM normally it feels as fast as CM compared to all the junk which resulted in numerous random slowdowns and freezes.

Sure. Tumblr, Google Keep (or Notes, what they call it now) and even Tapatalk do not scroll smoothly, unfortunately. It is worst with Keep.
The rest is all awesome
Looking forward to your new build
Uuuh and how can I keep Chrome from opening in floating mode????

Not sure sorry. From what I experienced blacklisting doesn't work but I recall it being fixed by Google in the new chrome beta build. You can get the apk on android police.com
