HTC One Water damage - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why on earth did this moderator '' ghost '' think my thread about my phone falling down the toilet and me asking for assistance was '' off topic '' and was subsequently closed, seriously mate your well out of order closing that thread it's as relevant as any thread, I only hope something like this nightmare never happens to you!!!
Anyway again I'll start what is a very relevant thread, long story I dropped my One in the toilet managed to scoop it out straight away and it continued to work, woke the following morning and phone was dead but after charging it booted up but wouldn't recognise my SIM card so tried another SIM and won't accept that either.
Came home to find the phone dead it was on 78% battery last night after charging it, screen is washed out too as you'd imagine , so charged it and it has rebooted several times since but booted up eventually, but will not recognise any SIM I put in.
I recall reading a thread on here before saying if you put the phone in a bag of rice that sometimes works so will be doing that I do have insurance but if at all possible I'm hoping to rescue this phone.
I'm asking for any assistance from anyone who was unfortunate enough to be in the same situation.
DO NOT LOCK THIS THREAD it's as relevant as anything posted on here.
Thank you.

Hello, I have htc one which doesn't recognize sim cards, but not because of water damage:laugh:
To fix/change it, you should disassemble almost everything - it's under screen.
here is more info

Thanks mate but I'm no good when it comes to this type of thing, software I'm OK with but not the hardware side of things.

Me too. I'm afraid of teardown.
What will you do?

I've no idea mate, the phone now bizarrely won't turn off, I've left it in a bag of rice so will check tomorrow night and see if that done any good.
I put in a claim on my insurance as and its been accepted but have to pay an outrageous €95 excess which I could really do without, using my Moto G as a spare but badly miss my One.
If anyone has any suggestions feel free to post.

to be completely honest if your phone was usable when you scooped it out of the toilet, you should have IMMEDIATELY turned it off. and stuck it in a bag of rice for like a week. the reason your phone went all wonky after is probably because there was some left over water inside the phone and as you were using it, it probably moved around and shorted something.

I was in the pub at the time and very drunk.
It's not looking good at all though, Left in a bag of rice overnight and now the power button won't work, have to keep plugging in USB cable to wake the phone while I bluetooth my photos and videos, etc to my Moto G.
Gonnab just wipe the phone completely after I've taken all I need to take off it and give it to the courier who will deliver my new HTC One after I pay the excess next week (they said I have to return this phone, no idea what they'll do with it)
So thanks anyway but I'm just gonna sell the new one sealed and unlocked and use my Moto G until new HTC M8 is released.

Cracked Screen Tip (how OTG saved my life)

I want to share an experience I just had. My girlfriend's little bro cracked his brand new N7 (idiot). Somehow he convinced the support line to replace it (how the hell?)
To be safe from any warranty issues, I wanted to unroot it for him. Problem was, the touch screen was completely unresponsive, even though the display looked fine past the spiderweb of cracks. And of course USB Debugging was turned off, and I had no idea how to work around that.
After some thought I figured I could put my OTG cable to use and connect a mouse. So simple! USB debugging was back on, end of story. So hope that helps someone stuck in the same situation... If your touch screen breaks, try a OTG cable and a mouse.
Handy tip.
/but where is the part in the story that you life got saved?
Heh... they are going to send you an new N7, then when they get your broken one, they are going to see that the damage of his own doing and yank another hefty 200 out of your account...
Remove any credit cards from your Google account as soon as u get your new Nexis and go into hiding

[Q] Random power off

Hey guys,
Firstly, I will admit from the start my phone has been dropped a couple of times but from around knee height at most...
I bought a contract, of which I am 2 months into, and in the last 2 weeks my phone keeps turning off randomly and wont turn on. Only sometimes when I remove the battery and sim card even, that it turns back on again. Its really frustrating, especially that I'm moving home in the next few weeks and agencies cant call me.
I am wondering if I can somehow go to the store of the company I bought it from and ask for a new one or a different phone?
I am happy to pay the difference for a galaxy note 2 dare I say which was my original choice but the LG was £10 less a month. Only thing is I purchased it online?
Many thanks to any help or advice on what might be causing this?!

A couple drops shouldn't cause this unless you're really unlucky, I dropped mine from the bench on the second day of owning it and freaked though luckily not a mark on it. I would say it's probably a fault so yeah try and return it, if it's bought online get in touch with the customer service team, most sites will have the phone number somewhere or it may be on your invoice. Check for damage or loose connections around the battery first though, good luck!

I was looking around the device but nothing is visible. I went to carphone warehouse store and they said they have to send it to LG. I will be able to tell if its a replacement or not as mine had a little dink taken out of the frame..ahh well, now two weeks of waiting to do.
They offered me a replacement phone as I went to leave like they forgot and I got a simple looking Samsung with chunky buttons! XD love retro style!
Thankyou for the advice,
Marc

You're welcome! When I was with carphone I brought in my HTC desire z (now drowned in the toilet one drunken night) Because it was not receiving messages, and I had updated it to 2.2.1 which made it impossible to root. When I came back to the store after my holiday I was thrilled to find a brand new phone (gave me the old backplate back though, cheapskates) with the original rootable 2.2! I proceeded to root and flash my first ever ROM, cm7, crapped myself cos I bricked it, then realized I had just forgot to wipe data! Booted into cm7 and never looked back, I can't stand unrooted devices! hopefully they send you a new one, that sort of fault usually does get a new one as its hard to detect the source of the issue, good luck!

[Q] Phone Died, weird happenings, time to be aware?

I plugged my phone in before I went to bed, it had 57% left and I need a full charge for work each day. I woke up 45 minutes late due to my alarm not going off, I immediately grabbed my phone and pressed the power button a few times and the screen would not turn on. It was then I noticed the led was not orange or green or whatever it is when its full charged. I grabbed my girlfriends charger for her S3 and plugged it in to see if it was the cord, no luck there so I took it to work and tried a few outlets there to no avail. The phone is dead, or sleeping really ****ing hard. I called sprint who gave my the number to asurion so I could file a claim, they charged me $150 for a new phone to be shipped out and they want my old one. Which seems kinda crazy considering I bought this phone full retail on pre order for my birthday. I've also tried booting to the boot loader, through the button system and adb on my pc. Anyone have any clues as to what happened? did my phone seriously take a crap a little over a month of owning it, I'm also another $150 in the hole on it and I'm just crossing my fingers it does not happen again, can't afford this. But if anyone has any insight, suggestions, or experiences please share, thanks.
I saw this it's worth a shot

This should be a warranty claim and not an insurance claim!

+1 This isn't an insurance claim. This falls under warranty and wouldn't be subject to a deductible. You should take it by a store and get it replaced.

You could also try the put it under a bright light while you're booting it trick

HTC One Water Damage

Very drunk last night for St Patricks day and dropped my One down the toilet in the bar , don't think I've ever sobered up as quick in my life, it was still working just the screen was all washed out.
Woke this morning with an almighty hangover and noticed the phone was off, as far as I remember there was some battery left about 40% or thereabouts, tried to turn it on and it wouldn't or boot into recovery,so charged the phone and the red light appeared, turned it on 30 minutes later and it came on but it wouldn't recognise the SIM card so tried another SIM card and it won't recognise that either it just boots up as normal and the screen is washed out, but it's supposed to ask for my PIN number but doesn't.
I have insurance but have to pay €95 excess to get a new one and I made a claim and it's been accepted so at least I can get a new One but it's really money I could do without spending, I've heard that if you put the phone in a bag of rice this sometimes works (have to buy rice in supermarket) I did want to get the new M8 as well, has anyone any suggestions, has this happened to you before, much as I love my One but it's times like this I wonder if only I had a Sony Xperia Z1 which is waterproof, why can't HTC make the One waterproof too.
S-off, rooted, running Sky Dragon ROM, Aviate launcher.
Thanks guys, please be careful too with your phone, nightmare when this happens.

How to recover a hard bricked Nexus 6

I flashed Android N Preview as a secondary ROM using MultiROM, everything worked perfectly, no issues what so ever.
After a day when I was listening to music using Spotify the phone suddenly switched of abruptly with battery over 90%
Since then I couldn't able to switch on the phone again.
No bootloader, no Recovery, Its not booting at all. No response from the phone.
I think it is dead.
Changed the Battery to new one.
Not worked. No sign of anything.
When I plugged in the charger the LED light is on, but I don't think its charging phone is not warm while it is plugged in.
In fact it felt like so chill.
So, I don't know how to recover my phone.
BTW, the phone's bootloader unlocked, rooted stock ROM as the primary one.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks guys.
Did you try to press the power button for 15-20 seconds? That's a weird problem.
The same happened to me.,and my phone is stock and locked. Its bricked. Nothing we tried helped

the back plastic sheet is held on with adhesive, I would apply heat first then work it open with a tool like isesamo or maybe a thin credit card or guitar pick. underneath there are 20 torx iirc can't remember size and another plastic shell with many holes in it. this cover, the wireless charging coil, and battery are adhered together i think and there are two small rubber covers for the power button (top) and battery (bottom). remember to disconnect your ribbon cables and treat them carefully.
the real problem imo lies in reassembly. i have repaired many and never feel they are the same as they came from the factory mostly because the back cover doesn’t re-adhere well. invest in some quality 3m adhesive, even a pre cut if you can manage.
Yeah done everything I have in my power nothing works.
Asked service center to check they said the phone is dead.
To get it repaired it will cost 3500 for me, they said.
Damn it.
Don't know what to do.
Now they said that the motherboard is dead, I need to change it inorder to get it work again.
Is it possible like this kind of problem occurs?
I was in Android N listening to Spotify
Putting a pre release OS on a phone, especially using a hack like multi rom, was indeed a recipe for disaster..
I'm certain that your partitions somehow got corrupted, and that results in a un bootable phone
Hopefully, someone reading this thread, who is thinking about doing something suicidal like that will learn from your mistake, but your phone is toast, unless you can get it J-Tagged, which might not even be available for your N6
I've heard the term j-tag a lot before. What does that mean

My phone is officially dead. Service center said that the motherboard is weak and is impossible to repair and only fix is to replace the whole motherboard to a newer one. That would cost me a lot like i could get a new for it and they even suggested me to exchange this phone to a newer one.
And now i got Nexus 6P and I love it so much.
But God i really miss my Nexus 6.
Thanks for the help and suggestion here.
Long live xda.
I couldn't resist to unlock bootloader. Flash multirom and stock root and xposed.
That's the heaven, i can't live without.
I have done it all after i opened the 6P from its box. Lol.
May be i am fastest one to do it.
Thanks xda and friends from it.
