Plz Help! HTC One Stuck On Start Up Screen - Sprint HTC One (M7)

I went to install the most recent up date. When it got done installing it started to reboot. It then got stuck on the HTC start up screen. I do not know a whole bunch on phones but did a little research and tried to recover and reboot the phone and neither worked. I would really like to find a fix that does not involve erasing all my data. I have all the pictures of my baby from the past year, from the time that he was born until now, and I would really hate to lose those. Thank you!

Maybe some more information... what ROM, was this a stock OTA? If you have custom recovery and are attempting to flash a custom ROM, then try to reflash...if you have lost your data already or to avoid data loss;try side-loading a ROM...can't tell you much from what I've read, but if you can hold power+ volume down simultaneously for about 15 secs you should end up in recovery, if you installed a custom recovery; e.g.Philz, TWRP, CWM...then you'll pop up there....
It is safe to say that if you don't have any of these custom recoveries then you'll need to use the RUU found in the Dev section....

... by the look of you message, it feels you havent unlocked your bootloader and here i will be happy to be wrong. if you have already then you got a bright chance of flashing a custom recovery via fastboot and retrieving your data mounting the storage from recovery ...

No I have not done this. I am assuming there is no way to do that at this point?

I am sorry, I am completely stupid when it comes to phone. I know that I have not done any customizations. It is not rooted and would not have a custom ROM, not quite sure what that is. Everything should be stock. So what would I have to do to do the option that you have stated? I apologize for my lack of knowledge.

does your pc recognize the the phone when you plug it in? you could try extracting the data like stated before, but you're not rooted so that'd be a problem. an ruu would be your best bet, even though you'll lose your data. I HIGHLY suggest creating a dropbox and backing up your photos, it has done wonders for me.

It recognizes it to an extent. My computer will ding recognizing that it is plugged in but since it does not go past the start up screen you can't get into the phone storage. I do have a dropbox but with the thousands of pictures on my phone it unfortunately only stored a month or so of pictures. I am not so much worried about the phone, as I have insurance on it and can get it replaced. Just really want the pictures. When looking online I had read something about unlocking the boot menu and downloading a ROM I believe. Do you know anything about that and if it would work for me? Or is that the same thing as the RUU?

... you can but then you are gonna lose everything after unlocking so there is no point ...

Mine gets stuck on boot screen occasionally. Sounds weird but hold the phone drectly up to a light bulb and try to reboot the phone. This works for my particular problem. Not sure why but it does.

Hold power and vol-down together until it reboots into bootloader. Connect to USB and select 'fastboot' on the bootloader menu. That should get you to fastboot. From there, you can HTCDEV unlock the thing (in all likelihood).

Nexus one only going to the "Android system recovery <2e>" screen

When booting the Nexus One I get an Android with an explanation point, then I am able to toggle the volume key and power to get into "Android system recovery <2e>" screen which gives me the options
-reboot system now
-apply sdcard:update.zip
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
when it's in this screen I can NOT access it through fastboot or adb.
It looks like it is only allowing me to push "officially" signed update.zip files to it and nothing else.
I cannot get it in to hboot or anything else it ONLY boots into "Android system recovery <2e>"
Maybe someone has an official update.zip boot image they can send me to or some other idea it would be much appreciated since I cannot use the phone at all.
Thank you in advanced, Please help!!!
Did you try holding trackball and power button when the phone is turned off to bring you directly to fastboot?

Yes, with no luck, it just goes straight to the Android and explanation point
Are you rooted? Unlocked bootloader? What did you do to get you into this situation?
Not to worry you, but usually not being able to boot into fastboot is not a good thing.

ya at this point I was kinda figuring that but I am hopeful ...I unlocked the boot loader and everything was going great until I partitioned the sd in the recovery image, then I started getting a weird MISC error and couldn't boot up at all, only in recovery but fastboot and everything still worked. Then I saw a post about applying the original image to the device via fastboot, preformed that and ever since then I have had a $500 brink that lights up
I don't think you can brick the N1 by just flashing a ROM, usually this only happens when changing the radio or spl.
I would try taking out your sd card, copy all your files you your computer, format your sd card, copy your files back to your sd card and see what that does for you. Maybe some issue arose when you partitioned your sd card, although you said fastboot still worked until you flashed the ROM. Worth a shot though.
If you can access fastboot then, I would flash Amon Ra's custom recovery image via fastboot and take it from there.
well I actually tried a completely different sdcard and then none at all. No luck. If it's not letting me into hboot do you think it may have gotten corrupted or something

Honetly, I don't know. Did you try copying the .zip in the link posted above to your sdcard and then applying that zip in recovery?
Hopefully someone that knows more than me will chime in and have some better ideas.

Thank you, ya I didn't see the link the first time. duh. Yep I tried that and I get a build.prop error (although this update says installing for a second and i see a progress bar, I have tried that same file from a few download locations to make sure it wasn't a bad download too):
file_getprop: Failed to stat "/system/build.prop": No such file or directory
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(status 7)
Installation aborted
Thank you for all your help!! but I am afraid this isn't looking to good.
I also tried creating that file just to see but since it wasn't officially signed it gave me an error about that
I think at this point it is looking for a specific signed update.zip file, where I find that, I have no idea.
It almost seems like I need the whole update.zip officially signed by google and/or HTC and then it would flash. I highly doubt they are going to hand that over. I am half temped to see if I could send it in to them to be reflashed even for a fee if it means I can get this thing working again, but I don't even know if they would offer that. It's only 2 months old and I think the file I need maybe out there but damned if I have been able to find it anywhere.

I wouldn't give up yet. I'm sure there is someone out there that can tell you you are completely hosed, or help you fix the problem.
If you can't fix it, I have heard it will cost $196 for a new motherboard if you send it in to HTC. They could just reflash your phone but I heard they handle a case like this by charging you for a motherboard swap. Second hand information though.

I believe that, I work in the field service industry and I see stuff like that all the time. Although I would rather pay the 196 instead of 560+ again. I am almost 100% certain this could be re-flashed with the right file. but I have so far spent 2 full days trying different things, I think I will give it until tomorrow and then send it in (by then I should be good an sick of searching). Unfortunately, I am in love with my Nexus. it's been a while since I had a phone I really enjoyed as much. If I knew another great phone was coming out in a week I would probably say the heck with it and just buy the next one but this is still an awesome device.

Have you tried every option in all the other "HELP BRICK" posts?? I don't really have time to search (and my nexus is working fine) but I know there has been plenty of threads like this before. Multiple options where tried, some successfully and some not. I would not give up unless it won't power on at all. Does ADB logcat work during a boot? Fastboot Devices? anything??????

No haven't tried those checking the Help Brick post I will see what I can find. No adb and not fastboot devices, just says waiting for device if I try anything.
Since you have unlocked the bootloader have you tried a complete reload?
fastboot: flash boot, flash recovery
recovery: wipe everything, reset, install latest CM.
Did you ever figure this out?

[Q] Any way to put Safestrap Recovery on without APK?

My Droid 4 is bricked, but out seems to me that if I could get safestrap recovery in, I could boot any working "safe" ROM and leave my non-functioning "unsafe" system alone until the day a fastboot image becomes available.
The only wrinkle is that since the current OS is bricked, I can't load the Safestrap recovery via Apk. Is there any way to load it using one of the remaining capabilities in the phone (normal recovery, fastboot, etc.)?
I definitely don't have the full technical ability to answer your question, but to get the ball rolling:
Can you get adb up and running? If you can't, my guess is no... If you can, somebody who knows more than I do might be able to get you going...
Call Motorola or the wireless vendor where you got your phone and play dumb.
How did you brick your phone?
I bricked mine the first time by restoring a saved stock rom that I had made. Little did I know, but I got the webtop save mixed up, and totally soft-bricked my handset.
Safestrap is a good alternative to having nothing, but you should read everything there is to know about it before installing it. Conceptually, it doesn't share a whole lot with the original clockworkmod recovery.

I've thought about it. (1) there's stuff on the internal "sdcard" (/sdcard, as distinct from the removable real SDC) I'd like to recover if I could, so restoring the phone I have right now is preferable, unless restoring from a fastboot recovery wipes /sdcard).. and (2) I hate the idea of "cheating" on a warranty for a self-inflicted product failure, both on the ethics of it and on the remote possibility I could get caught.

I had safely rooted the phone (Droid 4 Utility is awesome) and installed Titanium Backup Pro. I was playing around with freezing bloatware, deleting bloatware, and the like... the last thing I did before rebooting and never coming back was integrating system application dalvik cache into the ROM and then undoing that integration. But I can't be sure that was the killer, since I hadn't rebooted for a while before that... one of the other changes earlier could have been it.

Yeah, I recognize it's a very different world because of the locked bootstrap, so I'd obviously have to adapt to the differences, but just the ability to get some use out of the phone before the fastboot recovery leaks would be a good start. My needs are not great. Something besides repeated reboots ("Droid..." every 10 seconds until the battery runs flat) would make me happier than a pig in slop.

Yeah. The times I've tried, the phone never boots to the point that the USB debugging driver on the PC ever sees the phone ("adb devices" lists nothing).
About the only interaction I can get to is to force the phone into fastboot and plugging in with the fastboot USB driver on the PC. RSD Lite does see the phone then. Too bad I don't have a fastboot recovery to use at that point.

System partition not booting up?

I'll try to keep this one explained simple
- Was running have boot loader unlocked and am rooted, was trickdroid
- Decided to try what else was out there for ROMS, switched to Renovate rom, was a downgrade from trickdroid in my eyes
- Decided to switch to one more rom before making the jump back to trickdroid, accidentally wiped internal storage data along with everything else
- After wasting most of my day messing with this crap, I finally got everything back to somewhat operational again
- My internal memory and Cache at one point were unmountable and read 0MB, had to do a factory reset via boot loader then a full wipe using TWRP
- Finally have trickdroid installed and its semi operational, aside from the fact that when I load it, it instantly has no service, no internet, nothing. It sends me to the launcher portion and there are no apps on there either. Shortly after it starts it will restart the device.
-After doing several restarts into recovery I have confirmed that the system partition consistently unchecks itself and I have already attempted fixing permissions several times and doing a system wipe and full ROM install again.. same issue to no avail.
- Last night I actually managed to pull up icons and programs, somehow, but again there was no system being loaded up
A little help please? I am in a state of a soft brick at this point, which is not bad considering I had a SUPER HARD brick earlier.
Help me, please. I just want to get this phone back to a functioning state!

A hard brick is unrecoverable. It means your phone is literally as responsive as a brick. I would say your phone is pretty functional if the actual OS loads.
Anyway, have you tried RUU? That usually brings everything back to normal. Be sure to use the correct one, and note that you will lose EVERYTHING. Even root.
EDIT: Try this.

So I did try using this link and downloaded the full zip file and unzipped as per instructions of QBKing77 off of youtube, then clicked setup.exe within the folder which was unzipped, but after it ran through its setup process, nothing else popped up? I tried doing it as well through hasoons all in one toolkit but while that worked, it didn't work as expected and it just stayed at the black htc screen. I'm lost at the moment.

We should add to the Q/A sticky the names of ROMs NOT to flash like Android revolution, trickdroid, etc.

International
Sprint
AT&T
T-Mobile
So it could be confusing to some
Hello from my finally unbricked one! Turns out I was having issues with the computer itself launching installshield so it wouldn't keep the factory RUU running. I did it from a different computer and it did it in stride.. I'm so happy to have this thing back. So on a sidenote I had to rwlock bootloader and then I had to reload the factory RUU.

Please help. Phone stuck in purgatory [Resolved]

Okay, so being the wise person that I am, I decided that it would be a good idea to get the 4.2.2 sense update a few days/weeks before my carrier (Rogers) pushes it. I'll write it step by step, in case anyone can help me
- I started by making an ADB Backup, rooting the phone, and installing twrp recovery. No issues there
- When the phone started back up, I tried to restore my data, but the adb backup kept getting stuck on "com.Android.contacts" or something similar, so I decided I might as well try getting S-Off so I could change CID and get the 4.2.2 update.
- I used Revone, but it kept failing (error code -1). I posted in that thread about it, but I decided that in the mean time, I would just factory reset my phone.
I stupidly clicked "format" in twrp!
Now, my phone is on twrp with no OS. I tried downloading the rogers rom from HTC Dev, but it was a Zip file, and it won't install. I restarted the phone, and now I can't push anything to it. It says "error: device not found" when I try push the European 1.28 RUU (which I'm not sure if that would even work, because of CID/MID differences since the phone isn't S-Off.
Any help would be greatly appreciated :crying:
Okay, So I finally got the European RUU to push to the phone, only to realize that it's a ".exe" that can't be flashed from twrp. I have no access to a PC

Just flash any stable ROM in the meantime so you can at least boot the phone. Download ARHD, push the zip to your phone, and flash that.
I really don't understand all these people changing CIDs to force updates, especially when they go back to s-on afterward. You're locking your phone into a potentially problematic configuration. I helped another guy this morning who did it and then couldn't boot up but couldn't fix anything because he went back to s-on and locked bootloader.
If you want 4.2.2, do it the right way: S-off, flash firmware, flash rom. If you want stock, there are stock roms. All of this can be done on a Mac.

Well, I flashed CM 10.1, and finally managed to get S-Off. Now my issue is trying to go back to stock HTC Firmware. I can only get the RUU, which obviously doesn't work on Mac. Even If could extract the Zip, I have twrp recovery. How would I go back to a stock recovery that would allow me to get the OTA? I'm really upset about this whole thing. I mean, come on. HTC should've provided a Mac utility that allows users to go back to stock completely. I understand that they give you warnings about doing this kind of stuff, but I should be able to play around with my device and still be able to get it back to a functional factory state. I got iOS 7, and it was incredibly easy to go back. I've upgraded my Blackberry Z10 a 100 times with firmware from all over the world with no issues. I've also never had to deal with this S-crap stuff on my Nexus 4. It's just frustrating for end users.
Anyways, rant aside, would you happen to know how I can go back to a full factory state? I'm on CM 10.1 right now with twrp recovery.

Without a PC to run the RUU, I'm not sure. You can flash stuff, but if you want to be out of the box stock, you need a RUU.
I finally managed to get my phone to work. In case anyone comes across this, I'll write down what I did.
I had too many problems to list. From not being able to access adb on the phone, to the phone's memory being partitioned incorrectly, to the point where even a recovery like twrp couldn't format or access it in order to flash anything ("Unable to mount internal storage").
The solution to all problems (and if you're a Mac user like I am, this is disheartening), is that you'll need to run RUU on a PC. When doing this, you'll likely run into a few error messages.
Error 170: Make sure the device is in fastboot mode before plugging it in (hold power and volume down on boot, and select fastboot with the power button). You can make sure that the computer can see it by going to your device manager in windows, and make sure that it says "My HTC" under "Android Device." If it has a cryptic name with an exclamation mark, or you can't see it by using "fastboot devices" command, you'll continue to get that error.
Error 171: This error kept occuring when the computer could no longer see the phone after the process had already begun. The reasons this happens are many (ie your USB wire or drive might be faulty), but to me, it was because the phone was not going back to the bootloader on its own, and the computer eventually gave up. To solve this, start RUU.exe and WAIT BESIDE IT. You will come across 2 points where it says waiting for bootloader. Have your computer's device manager open, and hold the phone's power button until you see that the "Android Device" or "My HTC" disappears and reappears. RUU should continue when that happens. Again, you will have to do this twice! If you don't, RUU gives up on the phone as it does not go into the bootloader by itself, and will eventually give you an error.
For anyone going through this, just realize that as long as you can get into the bootloader, there's always a way to get it to work. At times, I thought my phone was completely bricked, but no matter what issue you have (including unable to access the phone's internal memory), you can always solve it if you can get into the bootloader. With that said, this process will erase everything on your phone, unfortunately. Everything is done at your own risk, so please don't blame those who are trying to help you. Good luck, and remember to always post your solution online, if you start a topic discussing the issue. I came across many people with the same issue who never came back with their solution!
Edit the title to solved
Not that it has happened to me but I think you could have just sideloaded a custom Rom from twrp and flashed that.

I tried, but I'm unable to do it. Due to the low post count, perhaps? :S

That was one of the first things I tried. It kept coming back with "unable to mount internal storage" or something like that, as I noted earlier. It was really weird, I couldn't format, mount, or do anything to my storage with tarp, and I couldn't get adb to see the phone. A lot of people have the issue with the One X, but I couldn't find a solution anywhere. I think what made the whole thing trickier than it needed to be is the fact that I changed my CID/MID, and in that guide, it is explained that you have to reboot the phone yourself in RUU, but I didn't realize not doing so would result in errors. I kept thinking it was because my device wasn't being seen in adv, so I was trying to get it to boot into any ROM for that to happen, and the inability to flash anything due to the internal storage error really complicated things. It's good to know that even this can be resolved, as I had all but convinced myself that I was dealing with a brick. I hope anyone coming across this issue in the future can benefit from my ordeal.

That's normal since android 4.1 because the sd card is not a fat partition anymore, did you follow this guide?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2325853

Won't boot into recovery

Hello. I have unlocked bootloader successfully (it says "unlocked" at screen and also "tampered"). I have all the fastboot/adb software on my windows pc and can communicate with the phone. I flash recovery via fastboot and it is successful...includes a "recovery" option under bootloader options but it just flashes a disclaimer screen and quickly goes back to bootloader screen. Without custom recovery I cannot root this phone which is my goal. I have tried to reflash other recovery images, including cmw and twrp - I believe cmw is on it now but it won't open.
Hoping someone can assist me with this.
Thank you

Reflash whichever recovery you plan to use then remove the battery and put it back in then hold the volume down button and then press and hold the power button at the same time and the phone should then boot to recovery. Make a backup after so you have something to fall back on just in case.

Are you actually holding both buttons down at the same time until the screen turns on? Don't let them go hold them both down until your screen lights up. Then select recovery but if it doesn't work then try below.
Try flashing this version of twrp https://twrp.me/devices/htcdesire510usa32bit.html ... If you're not in the USA I need to know.
Flashing twrp didn't change anything unfortunately. I recently tried re-locking my bootloader and attempted to flash stock images back to the phone but when I press "yes" to the question about voiding the warranty before unlocking the bootloader again...the disclaimer just flashes and the phone won't let it.
Also, I cannot seem to restore it to stock through the menu...nor the bootloader screen.
So now I have "tampered" and "Relocked" banners on top of bootloader screen.
One the upside, the phone itself works fine (I currently only use it for wifi).
Only thing I can think of is I originally flashed a corrupt recovery img (or incompatible version).
Hoping you or someone else has any ideas as to how to get this thing working again. I'd be happy with reverting completly back to stock and starting the process over..

What service provider are you using?
Don't toss the unlock code you got from HTC you're gonna need the very first one you got keep it forever.
I'm using Boost but I think I figured it out. It ended up being a corrupt download of cmw. I actually used an ruu to get back stock and now the whole process went smoothly. Just looking for a rom that fits...got any recommendations in that area?

Not really since everyone has their own tastes but I'd advise you to create a backup in your recovery so you can use it in case something goes wrong. Currently me and a friend are working on CM13/12..

Funny enough I never made a backup before and constantly have to re-locate stock images due to soft bricking. I now am making backups so as not to go through that again.
I have a question perhaps you could answer -- if I install a rom that doesn't include any additional tweaks such as extended personaliation options in settings (transitions, etc, etc.)..is there a mod I can flash to achieve that?

For extended personalizing other than developer options, I'd use Xposed.

The USA model because myself and rb don't have the EU phone to even test anything on it.. We still have a lot of booting problems right now. I'd say if you wanted to help I'd have to ask what you know about building roms from source? Have you done it before?
P.S: There's already a CM-12.1 available for the EU model although it does have some issues.. You should read about it if you want to try it..

It's pretty cool and fun once you get the hang of making things and seeing them function right, and the other thing is... You'll need a pretty decent computer to compile/build with and it'll need to have at least 4GB ram (more is better) and about 50 to 100 GB hard drive space for building your rom plus the CM source code needs to be on your system too...

Well how fast is your internet? By the way.. I'm using a Linux operating system... What are you using? It cannot be done on Windows unless you use a VM.
Hey, I also faced this problem but I find the solution and successfully flash twrp
