@nadav Generally speaking most HTC phones fall into the 'phone not listed category'
Root without htcdev unlock? I think not.

Hey Mike, any hint as to if the logo bezel is touch sensitive?
Will we be able to use it like the capacitive buttons on the M7?

No clue yet, too many things yet to discover!

Mike, put in post that this will not work for Verizon based phones. You will get MID not allowed.
Make it easier than the thread filling up.

htc bezel does not appear to respond to touch.

Will this work on US carrier variants?

That is quite unfortunate... thanks for the update. Looks like we are stuck with on screen buttons.

Great, hopefully gonna be some good stuff going on for this, picking mine up tomorrow morning (would have had today if I was in London)

so i take it the at&t version is out to.

Will it be possible to root it without overwriting the existing recovery? When I get mine, all I will want is root access on the stock build after I've run the HTC unlock. Otherwise you run into problems getting OTA updates as released.
I had a similar issue with my HTC One X, but thankfully was able to get the original recovery to push back onto it after installing the SuperSU app with the custom recovery. Would rather not have to wait until there are updates out there before I can do the same thing with the M8!

As i said in other posts, I don't think that the bezel is touch sensitive... It would be a complete nonsense (but great at the same time) since the buttons are on the display itself

This is a beta release of a program I tossed together to make it easier to perform some common tasks on the HTC Vivid. It will:
Walk you through the Bootloader Unlock process
Capture your Device Token for submission to HTCDev
Apply the Unlock_code.bin file to your device
Root your device
I expect a few bugs, however I have tested it on my laptop with positive results. I was able to Unlock the bootloader and lock it again. Everything is bundled so you don't need the Android SDK. The goal was to create something similar to the multi-tool, but for OS X. This is also different from the other Mac tool as it isn't using Apple Script but instead Objective-C. The user should never see a terminal window if all goes well.
Report any bugs if you want, and I'll get them fixed asap. Remember this is beta and I'm not responsible for your device, etc etc etc.

No problem. I like little projects to try new stuff. I only tested it on OS X 10.7 but I compiled it for 10.6 so it should work with Snow Leopard. Unsure about 10.5 compatibility.

I'm adding CWM to the next version that will likely be out today. It will also have options to flash user-specified boot.img, system.img, and recovery.img files.
I got a message saying "You cant open the Application VividTools because it is not supported on this type of Mac" I am running a Macbook with MacOSX 10.6.8.
Thanks for the info, I'll take a look right away. If its an original MacBook it could be running 32-bit OS X, which may explain as the binary may have compiled for 64-bit.

Its a Macbook 1.1 that I got in 2007... So I'd say that probably the issue.
Thanks for this. I managed to unlock the BL with ease. I have not been able to root though. I see a green icon I would describe as "refresh download" and then a red exclamation "!". I end up having to pull the battery, then just boot normally. Tried it a few times; no luck.
Setup: OSX 10.7.3 / HTC Dev checkboxes enabled ( debug etc. ). Am I missing something? I usually am.
Thanks again.
I decided to test this while upgrading to ICS.
So I used it to relock my bootloader.
It said it was relocked succesfully but then said something about USB error. Probably because after relocking the phone restarts, so i think this was random.
After flashing the RUU, I tried to use this to unlock the bootloader again.
But it wasn't recognising my device. So I gave up and did everything manually whne finally I realised that the debugging mode wasn't on. Duuuurr. Turned it back on and the phone was recognised again.
However, rooting didn't work at all. It only took me to the Recovery screen. Nothing happened.
I loved the app, though. Finally someone's giving the proper attention for us Mac users. Hate having to borrow my mum's laptop in order to do the whole thing.
Keep up with the good work, you're on the right track
Failed to Root
It did not recognize my Vivid - no device detected.
Make sure you have USB Debugging switched on.
Have been testing out and seems to work well, the rooting section rebooted me to the recovery like someone else mentioned earlier.
I will keep an eye on this thread for updates.
Cheers

[UTILITY|S-OFF] RegawMOD Bootloader Customizer

Description
regaw_leinad said:
RegawMOD Bootloader Customizer is a utility for Windows that allows the
user to create a custom HTC firmware zip containing a custom bootloader image.
With this program, you are able to edit the *** UNLOCKED *** text on the top
to whatever you want it to say, change the S-OFF to S-ON, change the bootloader's version number,
update the bootloader's date and time stamp, and hide/customize the splash screen disclaimer.
Choosing the "Stock" look option automatically sets your banner to *** LOCKED ***,
changes S-OFF to S-ON and hides the HTC Development Splash Screen Disclaimer.
This program will NOT flash the zip for you, but it will allow you to save it to your computer to let you flash the zip yourself.
The process (flashing a new bootloader) is dangerous and may possibly brick your device if done incorrectly. You have been warned.

How To Flash A firmware zip
Place the zip on the root of your external sdcard. (Copy it right onto your sdcard, not in any folder)
Reboot the phone into the bootloader by either:
Powering off your phone completely, then hold Volume-Down and Power until the phone boots into the bootloader
If you have the android sdk set up, type 'adb reboot-bootloader'
Then select the menu option "Bootloader" and press the power button.
If you rebooted the manual way (Volume-Down + Power) You should already be at this menu
It will load the zip from your sdcard and ask you to accept the flash.
Press Volume Up to flash (On most devices, but could be a different button)
Once prompted, press Power to reboot (On most devices, but could be a different button)
Pro-Tip #1 (thanks dsEVOlve): Remove the firmware zip from your sdcard so it doesn't load next time you enter the bootloader.
The Splash Screen Development Disclaimer customizer is not supported by our device because we don't have the Disclaimer.
If you want stock just click "Show S-ON", keep the version at .0025, and enter the banner text as "*** LOCKED ***".

Read the OP for stock look. No this modifies the Juopunutbear ISC hboot which can also be seen in the OP.
Why is any one can't create a software to s-off ??
not to s-on
I wish they could also for s off but it harder then it would take BC you to have to actually open up the phone which sucks

Whoa whoa, question. If a phone has a stock bootloader...will this program not be able to modify the text in the stock HBOOT? Will that result in a brick? This would be very important to know.

You should automatically know because the title says it's an utility for S-OFF. Just as long as you're S-off it should work.
Has anyone tested this method yet? I need to have this phone replaced and I'm trying to make this as simple as possible.

Hi, is it possible to use this on Telstra Vivid (Velocity) too or is it just for AT&T Version?
How do I get s-off with this thing? Do i check show s-on and then create zip or do I leave show s-on unchecked and then create zip? I think I did both and it still says s-on in bootloader.
Do the wire trick in the stickied forum to get s-off

Perhaps someone here can help me. I did an RUU on my phone after I had already rooted and installed a custom ROM because I was having some problems with music playback. The RUU fixed the problem and I thought I should try to unlock the bootloader again to begin the rooting process but when I did my phone got stuck in a bootloop. I was able to install a recovery after unlocking but I was not able to flash a boot.img to my phone again. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Great idea...
I had a problem a couple of weeks ago where I had unlocked my bootloader, flashed TWRP & SSU, (and then decided I was happy with the stock ROM for the time being) only to get a notification a few minutes after re-setting up my M8 about the OTA to 1.54.401.5.
Had to reflash stock recovery via Fastboot, do the OTA, relfash TWRP and then somehow I lost root so had to reflash SSU.
This would have been perfect....I'll keep it for future as I'm still with the stock ROM for now
Thanks! :good:

I tried it, it works good, certainly easier then flash via computer in fastboot, but there is only one recovery can be installed at a time, you have to re flash the app if you want to switch, unless I am missing something.
Can this be done like the dual recovery for the Xperia phones, volume down power goes into TWRP, volume up power goes into CMW.
Thanks

I tried it, it works good, certainly easier then flash via computer in fastboot, but there is only one recovery can be installed at a time, you have to re flash the app if you want to switch, unless I am missing something.
Can this be done like the dual recovery for the Xperia phones, volume down power goes into TWRP, volume up power goes into CMW.
Thanks

Yes one at a time
Well I have no knowledge on how that is done on xpera phone but as said before this is just to make flashing a different recovery on your phone a breeze

6 Days Late but no h8 but...
As seen in the newer version of twrp it didn't seem necessary to update(From the ability to flash imgs right from the recovery truly awesome) if you want to see one would need more the 3 people to say yes

HTC First Sense5 work

for download : nugi
Yeah I found that out through trial and error lol. To install the ROM though, do you need S-OFF or can it stay S-ON? If it needs S-OFF, can you point me to a forum about getting S-OFF?

Oh, and can someone please post a different download link of the ROM? The Chinese server is unbearably slow, so can someone put it up on an American server?
Got it downloaded and installed, its amazing. Only problem is that I got a bootloop when I first loaded it, but that was fixed by clearing the cache, dalvik cache, and something else. Thanks!
For those of you that are going to use this ROM, if you install with S-ON, and then later decide that you want to S-OFF (like me), then you will need to reflash the ROM after you achieve S-OFF, otherwise the ROM freezes at the "Sense 5" startup screen and then begins a bootloop up to that point.

I apologize if the answer's obvious, but how exactly do you achieve S-Off?
I used the rumrunner s-off tool, but I got stuck in the bootloop,so I had to stop it, but I still got s-off.

I'm in the same boat as you were in; mine's stuck in a bootloop; I don't know if I got s-off though. How did you manage to get yours to stop bootlooping?
