[Topic]G730A Root/KDZ - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, quick question and topic.
I've overcame a ton of comments primarily from last years release of the Samsung G730A S III Mini model claiming root to no root outcomes.
Is the community for devs still trying to open a port or a guide for a successful G730A root?
I ask this as I see that we were the only form of outcasted Mini users.
If that be said, what are the chances that KitKat could make for an easier root process?
Also, anyone know if a kdz flash is possible for this device?
I ask this after my first Android :sly: Thrill 4G was one of the outcasted phone that finally got a root with a kdz flash, the Thrill forum lost all support and anyone interested in new roms had to stay on a EU dedicated kdz that was promised a developer and rom set.
Basically stating that all users were stuck on an EU Baseband with 3G and sometimes 4G LTE if the rom provided even that.

Bumping!
I'm not gonna watch a phone die out because people won't go out of their way to help the G730A community!
There's someone hiding in the dark and not giving answers.
Now we just sit here and watch others gloat and boast about their root? Whenever someone even mentions G730A in a thread the thread just dies out of communication.

Yeah... like seriously! I got the phone when it came out in sept 2013 and been waiting ever since. I voided my warranty by letting an idiot friend drop my phone, with physical damage to the bezel of the phone, I can now root it and do whatever I want. I'm still waiting. But to be honest, I'd rather have the s4 for the bigger screen. But until then I am waiting for kitkat.

LG-P920 Roms should be cleaned and banished from our LG-P925 forum.

Since we now have an official GB build for our LG-P925, i really think this forum should be cleaned up and all the builds that are built from LG-P920 GB Base should be removed. Since they are not actually for our device.
Does anybody agree?

Please. Get out of the development section.
EDIT: No. I do not agree. It's literally the SAME device. Open one up. Check the "P925" label that's underneath it.
And no. It's not that is:

It's that there are other carriers in this world that exist. Besides AT&T and all.
Now tell me.
Q: If there wasn't the international version or the P920 ROMs were "banished" from our Device section, do you really think I'd still be here?
A: NO. AT&T is worthless. For the fact that they'd like to bloat everything and put restrictions and whatnot.
Conclusion?
Leave it as is.
EDIT 2: End rant. Every developer needs to have one of these. xD
One can only be nice for so long.
Dude dont be a duche. A mod will move when they see fit. And by the way great work on your roms.

I'd say no. They are compatible with our thrill, its the same phone.
Rogers Canada uses the P925 but calls it by its official LG name, the optimus 3d.
Should the forums be combined?
Probably. If you're willing to modify your phone with a custom ROM then you should be able to change apns and all that good stuff. Why should we keep it seperate thus making it harder for users to find a good ROM?
The average USA user isnt going to search for the optimus 3d forum.
Do you think the optimus 3d mods should get rid of roms that were made from a LG thrill dev?

MOD EDIT: BEFORE POSTING ANY THREAD IN THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:
If you have developed a ROM, or are working with others to do so, the development forum is somewhere to discuss and share ideas, post useful feedback and logs or crash dumps, and to discuss a common goal developers are trying to achieve.
It is NOT the place to post your question because it gets higher traffic, or because more experienced users frequent it. Doing this just annoys those who are working on the device, and drives them away. Developers don't want to wade through 20 threads of "Help me urgently" to find their threads for porting and fixing camera issues etc. Similarly, if a thread is designated as discussion for developers say, porting a camera fix, please do not post in there asking "When will it be ready?", "Can I flash this yet?" etc. This is both completely disrespectful to those working on the project (you evidently haven't read the important posts in the thread), and also is making it harder for developers to find comments from other developers or testers when required.
Similarly, don't make loads of "Thanks for your work here" posts in an active development thread. It's just as annoying to developers as asking when something will be ready. If a ROM is complete, then go ahead and thank the developer if you wish, but don't go into threads for devs only, and interrupt it to post "thanks". It's basically spamming, and is treated as such.
If you are posting in development, you should have read every sticky and notice there, and should be actively developing or helping in the development of something. Developing isn't installing a ROM, or using a tweak, it's creating a ROM or other hack or tweak. If you haven't read for several days before starting out on XDA, you are likely about to ask something already solved. I registered on XDA when I first wanted to post, and that was to join in a discussion on something. Sure, join up and ask a question, but read the information available in General and Q&A first, as your question will have been asked before. Search is your friend here, become familiar with it.
Regarding when to post in development if you are not actually developing something, there is one occasion where it's acceptable. If you find a leak of a new ROM, which isn't already posted, and you verify it's legitimacy via either running it, or based on the source you obtained it from, then this is assisting in development, and should be posted in development. If you want to ask when a leak will be available use search first, then if not already in discussion, open a thread in general or Q&A.
If you have a problem flashing a ROM, this is NOT related to development. It's up to you to determine if it is specific to a particular ROM, and post useful information in that developer's existing thread for the ROM. If it happens on more than one ROM, and isn't a known issue (remember you should read several times more words than you post), then find out what you are doing wrong. Check guides written by others, try to repeat the problem and see if it happens every time. Something needs to be reproducible to be fixed effectively.
Once you have identified what you need help with go to the device Q&A forum (general if device lacks one), and make a clear, informative thread that explains the issue, and what you have tried doing to fix it. Did you re-download the ROM? Did you ask a friend to flash it for you, to reduce chance of user error? What steps (exactly) did you follow? What errors did you see (exact wording)? Did you double check all the steps? Did you do a wipe or hard reset?
If you make a clear, concise, yet detailed post, you will find help forthcoming, and should get the problem sorted very quickly. If someone suggests you try something, report back on what happened, did it work etc. Then, next time someone has this issue and searches, they will find this and have a verified and tested solution.
So remember... before you start a thread in development, ask yourself what you are developing. If you can't answer, then stop, step away from the post button, and think about where you are posting. Would it be better in General or Q&A, or is some more time with your best friend, search, required?
Regards,

Ok well obviously no one can see the obvious that the 920 based GB roms all pretty much run like crap on our 925. And also the fact that none of the GB based kernels made previous to v20p are not compatible with v20p, why have a forum full of roms that really arent made for our phone and that are borked

And let me point out that the P920 and P925 are pretty much the same phone. Quoted from Engadget's review of the Thrill 4G:
Talk about a spitting image of the LG Optimus 3D. Don't get us wrong, we were expecting the Thrill 4G to be incredibly similar to its global counterpart, of course -- we just didn't believe it would be that close. We expect US carriers to take a handset popular in other parts of the world, tweak its design, change the UI and essentially turn it into a completely different phone. Interestingly enough, we found it difficult to find any significant variations at all between the twins aside from a few minor adjustments.

and
Reviewing the Thrill 4G was essentially a complete rehash of the LG Optimus 3D, with the obvious exception of AT&T branding and price ($100 with a two-year commitment).

The v20c base band is the same as the one released in the new gb v20p so essentially its the same except bloatware. I'm on att using v20c with 2.1. And I absolutely don't understand how someone could Complain about. Its flawless, and if not maybe your doing something wrong. I have so many options, overclock, themes ect . Obviously you dont know what your talking about because v20c and v20p are totally different. You cant use any existing kernels on v20p, the result is a phone with no cell signal and you cant even open apn settings. Also if no one has noticed yet v20p does have new features, one ive noticed is when you receive a text message at when phone is locked there is a cool text message pop up icon now in the middle of the lock screen that you can press snd slide down to unlock straight to messages, also if you use the built in email app its the same thing, also with a missed call.

I agree with akwhite, V20c is the best stock ROM to base off of; v20p is almost the same but loaded with AT&T annoyances such as the name in the notification bar. I just loaded v20p to see how it was, but it's obvious v20c is the way to go. Rogers seems to be alot better at keeping their branding less obtrusive and more removable. V20p and v20c are pretty much the same.

Be reminded that Half of BioHazard is built ORIGINALLY off the O3D in general specifically because the very first GB Baseband mostly changes the device name and overruns software in order to put our device on possibly the first US/EU Baseband portable to the Thrill.
Yes! This is the "Thrill" forums and if I'm not correct the O3D was advertised FIRST and the most in Europe, it wasn't til a month later that the device WE call the Thrill wad advertised. Most Optimus models made are mainly for Europe! This making our device a European output device Originally based on P920. I'm beginning to think the reason for the long GB Official wait was because LG wanted to bug out the early released European GB.
Look at the facts of most European devices, half of our Mobile devices are based off them.
You slowly seem like you not even care for BioHazard. The first working GB ROM made mostly for Thrill in order to make a break and give us at least some 4G Speed & Signal.

Petition: Grant Galaxy S5 Users Unlocked Bootloader Upon Request

Greetings Everyone,
I posted this over in the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 threads. The original thread I'm speaking of can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2758406
As I am sure many of you are aware Verizon Wireless and AT&T users have yet to receive root. I have created a petition asking for an unlocked bootloader that upon reaching its signature goal will be sent out to VZW/ATT as well as Samsung Mobile. Petitioning has worked for a number of devices in the past such as the HTC Rezound. If you would all please take a minute or less of your time to SIGN&SHARE this petition it would help all of us out tremendously. Below I have pasted the OP from my original thread.
Petition link is at the bottom of this post.
There was some discussion by Russ77 about starting a petition over in the bounty thread, so I went ahead and made one.
You may think this is a long shot or even a foolish attempt, but the bottom line is it could work. The likeliness of this working goes up with every signature. If you are reading this- SIGN! If this really picks up we may be able to change Verizon's policy all together! It takes maybe 3 seconds to sign so lets get this thing moving!
How Can You Help?
1. Sign the petition
2. Get Social- tweet it, facebook it, anything to spread awareness
3. Share this on other forums and websites
Remember, signing this is great but signing and sharing is even better.
Current Goal: 5,000

Dude I'm not sure whether I should laugh or cry while reading this. Let me explain to you what you're asking, you are asking these companies to allow you the chance to break their device, I'm I right? That's like asking the owner of a house to let you in so that you can rob them, I can't believe XDA is being reduced to this level. Here is a tip, why not find another carrier that gives you the freedom to root until devs can figure something out. Over here we're still trying to figure out how to prevent Knox from tripping once rooted. I'm not sure petitioning mobile companies is the way to go.

Clearly you haven't been around the forums long enough? Hence, your logic makes no sense either. If you want more support for our devices, unlocking it for other variants would attract more development and hopefully contribute to solving tripping knox. So, don't try to discourage a movement that's been done on other devices which BTW was sometimes successful. It's a possible cause.
Thanks for the write op!

Based on my limited knowledge of American carriers, this has been attempted before and both VZW and AT&T have little care for such things.
Is there any *recent* example of success?
I remember very clearly that one of those companies stayed that they would not allow unlocking bootloaders, period.
Also I really really doubt you can move Samsung with a petition, they just don't give a crap about them.
Sorry but you might be wasting your time

It's easier to carry such view point, but of course there are those among us who are looking for quick fix while the rest are working diligently in finding a solution, if you believe that taking a petition to these company will be a positive way then by all means go for it, but remember we're talking about companies that don't give a sh*t about what customers think when it comes to granting boot loader access.
Sigh....another petition thread? This will never happen, so don't bother wasting your time. Don't bother wasting more time than you already have. It will not happen. Period.

If you searched through some of the threads regarding the SM--G730A you would've learned that it's bootloader is not unlocked yet, and there exists no way to unlock it as of yet. I don't think any active developers have that phone either, and to my knowledge only a recovery has been built for the phone (but you can't flash it because of the locked bootloader), only root has been achieved for your phone.
The phone you have isn't the S3 Mini here (the S3 mini here is the GT-I8190), Samsung's naming conventions are really stupid at times - your phone and the GT-I8190 have nothing in common outside of it's name. I think the GT-I8190 was marketed heavily overseas in Europe and such, whereas your model's only available in the States and Canada.
Thanks for the reply

Just a tip - search through xda to see if there's any active development on your phone, it'll save you a crapload of trouble, and I'd also avoid verizon and at&t phones in general because of their tendency to lock boot-loaders, I notice the google play edition of phones and the t-mobile versions tend to have unlocked boot-loaders and have better support.
Oh and google's dropped the price on the Nexus 5, about $320 usd for the 16gb, if you're interested and have the money.
Thanks Again

People don't appreciate that very much. You're new though, so there's your freebie. Read up, ask questions only after thorough reading because your question has most likely been asked before and please PLEASE don't flash anything until you are confident in the process. Flashing a Rom is nothing compared to debricking a device. Good luck and welcome aboard!
P.S. Hit the Thanks button for everyone that helps you along the way. Kindness, humility and appreciation go a long way with the people that take the time to make these roms we just play with.

thank you u for you kindness
When reading thorough it l, I don't know root, flash, etc... maybe this is over ny head. Is there a video tutorial of what to do? I hate to see so ignorant and dumb about these things, but I really am uneducated.
Any help would be grateful
Sounds like you got it and it was already on L, which means no root, sorry.

Yeah, go to your "about phone" menu and see what version of Android you are running. If it says 5.0, unfortunately there is not a root for that yet. Rooting only works as of now if you caught the phone before the over-the-air update. If it says 4.4.4, you are still in luck and there are you tube videos and tutorials found with a Google search. Good luck man.

Just to confirm, what model phone are you on?...if you have the g870a active varient, you can indeed downgrade back to 4.4.2. It's the regular s5 g900a that can't.

US Varients (AT&T/T-MOBILE/VERIZON)root progress thread.

I have searched the forums and the web trying to find a thread for a "root progress" (like the one we had on the LG V30 side of the world) of our T-MOBILE/AT&T/VERIZON/SPRINT note 9, but didn't find any. If there is one already, please remove this thread and provide me a link to it if you may.
Anyway,
There are two reasons why I'm creating this thread:
1. We used to have forums that are carrier specific. It was very neat and organized. I'd never gotten confused on finding something related to my device. Now, it is just one and very very cluttered forum for all varients (to the point that I'm not sure which variant is rootable and which isn't. And that's why I left out the sprint varient because I'm honestly not sure). There are so many threads that makes it so hard to find what you're looking for.
2. I'd like to know if there are any devs out there that are working on root for this phone (on the carriers mentioned above) and whether they need help testing. If there is; I'm sure there are a ton of users who are willing to help, including me.
I'd love for some devs to chime in and give us some updates. Not asking for any ETAs, but would love to know if there is any work being done. If there is, then please consider this thread to share your progress with us
So, feel free to throw your comments on here. Also, if you're a user who's wondering about root, has thoughts about root, would like to chat about it, go ahead, vent it out.
Cheers

I am also interest in US variant root progress. I am on Sprint though. Wish you had included us too in OP. I am willing to test out if anyone is developing.
Hi
Great idea, maybe if we show interest some of the dev's might take up the challenge.
We can hope.

Wont ever happen thats why i returned it and got the 960f for tmobile i left sprijt
It's a pipe dream to get root on the US variants. Samsung has even blocked SamFail and similar root. The bootloaders cannot be unlocked and the snapdragon processor models are doomed.
Join @pbedard, myself, and others; return your snapdragon model and buy the 960F.
The Note 9 is great, but it's amazing with root. ??

carrier specific should be banned and never be implemented again.
it causes confusion and is just a waste of resources. people ask questions and get less visibility because 90% of all questions or releases are CPU based and not carrier related.
it's simply a less efficient way of going about things.
carrier related issues and questions should actually be discussed in that specific carriers website. what good is it to discuss or bring up carriers issues in xda when you actually want and need carriers support and visibility from their end to fix or correct their issues?
issues that are based on device type or general custom development should be kept on xda as is: by cpu. there are sections for general inquires and such that can easily be used for the 10% asking questions or support for a specific carrier.
BTW
extra extra read all about it:
no root for the n960 snapdragon. it's a moot point and progress is that there is no progress. I'd think if the people that were working and progressing getting root were actually getting somewhere they would have already posted info by now. speculative threads wishing for something is not progress and I don't think its gonna " attract " people to suddenly develope root because if it.
it will come when it does if it does.
edit:
to prove my point for the carrier thing:
in Canada we also have the note 9 snapdragon.
960w Bell/rogers/telus/videotron/wind mobile...etc and so on.
should the forums be re-spliced for all of these too? lol no

Sorry, budd. Didn't know that you guys didn't have root either. I'll edit later.

The way Samsung has been locking phones the past few years I'm starting to wonder why I shouldn't try an iPhone out.

I was telling myself the same thing.. then snapped out of it and got an LG lol. Get a Pixel or any other brand if you value root.

its really the carriers imo.. well the US mainly haha.. most all other devices are unlockable outside of the US..
but agreed, especially with the RMM stuff they implemented recently even on unlockable devices..

I honestly cant afford to pay for this phone outright. I wish I could. I would've gotten the exynos varient and called it a day, financing through tmobile was the only option I had to get my hands on this phone. Even without root, it's still a stellar phone.

Is root even worth it anymore tbh ? What if we tried to get Volte and wifi calling working on the unbranded firmware ?

You could have gotten one on ebay and pay it over six months with the PayPal Credit option. That's what I did to get Exynos model.
