[Tutorial][Resource][Root]Unlock-Recovery-SuperSU for HTC One(M8)-Sprint-m8_whl - Sprint HTC One (M8)

Driver problems...get HTC Sync Manager HERE
Latest version of SuperSU can be found HERE
New official TWRP download page
If you are having issues with the "Official" TWRP in the folder I recommend this one... HERE
Those of you that insist on taking the OTA follow these steps:
rhe12 said:
How to go back to stock recovery after unlocking/TWRP/SU to take OTA update and how to revert back afterwards:
This assumes you have used this procedure to root phone. Doesn’t mean this procedure won’t work if you have used variants of that method or a different method, but whether these steps will work if that’s the case I don’t know.
1. Turn phone off
2. Boot into bootloader
3. Choose fastboot
4. Connect phone to computer through USB cable
5. Open elevated command prompt and navigate to folder where the stock recovery is located
6. Type at prompt: “fastboot flash recovery filename.img” without the quotation marks (where filename is the name of the stock recovery image you want to flash). You’ll see something like this:
C:\RootM8 (1)>fastboot flash recovery stockrec.img
target reported max download size of 1830711296 bytes
sending 'recovery' (24576 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.721s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 1.106s]
finished. total time: 2.830s
7. Reboot phone
Your phone now has the stock recovery, and it’s still rooted, but not for long . You can now proceed to take OTA update, at which point you will probably lose root, and then follow original procedure to flash TWRP recovery again, and then root again.

I'm not a Dev so this is my contribution to the HTC One-(M8)-Sprint community.
This is a DIY root method. By doing it yourself you will learn some basic knowledge about using cmd windows, using ADB,using fastboot.
This is also the same method used in my Guide for the HTC One-Sprint (M7).
Unlock your bootloader - www.htcdev.com Follow the instructions at HtcDev to unlock your bootloader.
Flash TWRP Recovery - (refer to the Read Me First Text on how to fastboot flash TWRP Recovery)
Flash SuperSU - (copy to sdcard and flash from TWRP) (Lollipop may require the latest version of SuperSU...link in post 2)
<---- If this guide helped you buy me a coffee
Using this method will NOT give you S-OFF it will help you unlock your bootloader(HTC-DEV) flash a custom recovery(TWRP for now CWM and PhilZTouch may come in the future ) and install the Superuser app of your choice.
What's included:
Read Me Text (instructions,ADB commands, and whatnot)
ADB Tool
Latest HTC Drivers v4.2.0.001 and HTC BMP USB Drivers v1.0.5375(32 and 64 bit versions)
TWRP openrecovery v2.7.0.0
SuperSU.apk v1.94
Changelog:
03/28/14 Initial Release
03/31/14 Edited ReadMe to reflect that you can choose "HTC One M8" rather than "All other devices" at Htc Dev when unlocking bootloader. Thanks @rhe12 for the heads up.
03/31/14 Added Stock Recovery if you feel the need to go back to stock and take an OTA
04/01/14 Updated ReadMeFirst text with feedback given by @rhe12
04/07/14 Updated adb and fastboot goodies
04/11/14 Added links to alternate recoveries in Post 2
05/31/14 Added Stock Recovery zip below
11/06/14 Updated Stock Recovery zip
11/18/14 Updated SuperSU to 2.16
11/18/14 Updated PhilZ Touch to 6.26.6

Just a general question about S-OFF...only advantage to that route (which doesn't exist yet for our phone) is that it doesn't void the warranty/etc?

IMO it's always a good idea to have s-off if it's available.
Unlocking your bootloader "may" void your warranty.
With s-off it's easier to get your bootloader back to Locked rather then Re-locked

Cool, thanks for putting all this together. I'm not sure it's worth doing it this early if S-OFF may be coming soon...at least by the time some more ROMs show up.

Well right now no permanent changes can be made to system, unless done from recovery. S-OFF will certainly remedy that, as well as allow for the red disclaimer and tampered flags to be removed.

Apologies for the noob question, but it is my understanding that one can use the above method and still S-OFF when it becomes available, correct? If so I'll try it, but if not I'll wait.

Can't really answer as we don't currently have an s-off exploit.
That said most of the recent exploits have required you to have an unlocked device.
I still have not even opened my M8 yet lol.

Thanks for the reply. So there is a chance that doing the above will irreversibly impede S-OFFing in the future? I guess that's what I'm trying to ask. Perhaps another way of asking it is, is the above method reversible in case it needs to be reversed to implement the S-OFF exploit? Again, apologies for the noob questions. Just trying to carefully find my way around the subject. TIA.

BTW in your readmefirst document you stated: "Visit www.htcdev.com to unlock your bootloader, login or create an account, select "Unlock Bootloader",click "Get Started",from the drop down window below "Supported Devices" choose "All Other Supported Models", click "Begin Unlock Bootloader"."
Just wanted to let you know there is now an entry in that drop down menu for the HTC ONE M8, in case you want to update that document.

NP. So I am in the middle of doing this. I successfully unlocked the bootloader. When phone rebooted went through the whole first set up until it settle down, then powered off the phone, went back into fastboot, connected USB, gave fastboot flash recovery "openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.0-m8_whl.img" command from my Win 7 laptop, first time around it said something like "failed: remote not allowed". Tried it again and it seemed to hang in sending image... the phone is stuck, unresponsive on fastboot USB. Oops. What do I do now?

You haven't unlocked yet? If so, and you possibly confirm if there are any files in /data/preload? We think the Calculator app might be in there. I'm also hoping there's a Mail widget hiding somewhere too.

i think u need to first soff ur phone!!for that u need to downgrade ur hboot to 1.13.0000 or 1.09.0000!! apparently the tool tpbklake is sugesting can downgrade ur hboot(i havent tested it) then u need to soff via revolutionary!! its all easy once u downgrade ur hboot version!!
i really hope u can at least give it a look at guides made by our fellow forumers and ask questions accordingly when u got stuck on certain steps or something. tpbklake provides useful link there, why dun y have a look first.
im not a pro, but i think most important of all u need to know what rooting is all about, if u want to go along the easy way, then just unlock ur device through htcdev, flash custom recovery, and flash a pre-rooted rom available (most of them are pre-rooted).

That's not the file he linked. That is my downgrade script which will not work on your hboot version unless your phone is rooted.
Your also describing a stock recovery, you need a custom recovery to flash the superuser file that naathaanb96 linked. Copy his file to your sdcard.
link to custom recovery http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-vivo.img flash this using
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-vivo.img
reboot into bootloader
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
and select recovery from the bootloader menu. When the recovery loads select install zip from sdcard and choose the superuser zip file you copied earlier and confirm. When that completes, reboot and you're rooted.
I followed your instructions, and still not rooted.. I noticed after the installation of the superuser package that the version is 3.0.7 for android 2.0 - 3.2. but i have ICS version 4.0.4

Where did you get 3.0.7? Not from this thread, right? Because you were linked to 3.1.3, here's the link again, just to refresh your memory:

FYI 3.0.7 is actually compatible with ICS if you download and install the correct package.

Can i use the HTCSync Drivers instead from this link?

This make me much worried,
During rooting process, i need to install various files (Say, superuser.apk), will this problem in my mobile cause the rooting process to fail?
OR Installing from ADB is different so that i can install and rooting wont be interrupted.
Please help me.. I am worried about point 3, mentioned above.

As you already installed htcsync you wont need to install other USB drivers as the htcsync drivers will remain even if you uninstall it. In fact, you don't actually have to uninstall it, you can just exit the program from your taskbar. I mentioned it in the tutorial only as a precaution, anything trying to interface with the handset could interfere with adb daemon operation.
You don't need to use tpbklakes guide anymore as I have integrated that process into the script.
If you need help with the s-off process, the best place to post is in the scripts thread, I'll be able to respond much faster.
Be aware that s-off is not root, it is setting the security flag to off which enables access to all partitions, you will have to flash superuser or a custom Rom to get root access.
If you cannot install APK's from file manager, it might mean that you have not checked ALLOW NON MARKET APPS in your settings. I think it's in your development menu.

1. Flashing the superuser will also come under this your SCRIPT right?
2. I have already allowed THIRD Party non market apps. But the problem is different, in package installer screen the install button is disabled. So, not 12 hours after getting my HTC one a few months ago, I unlocked the bootloader and rooted. I used this method: http://dottech.org/103429/how-to-ro...ader-and-install-clockworkmod-recovery-guide/
I knew I wouldn't get OTA updates, but figured I could flash updates via stock recovery. Apparently I can't. I get an error every time, so essentially I have no options to update. I have also noticed that there are a few little bugs that are quite annoying. So, my question is: Has anyone managed to either unroot and relock the bootloader in order to install updates? Or is there a method I can use to update my One with the latest HTC provided update? I made no changes to the phone aside from unlocking the bootloader and rooting. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this phone, but as we all know, having the latest update is a huge part of why we make changes to our phone. And with the 4.2.2 update arriving soon, I would really like to have an option of keeping my One always up to date.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yes, after tampering the phone and even flashing the stock recovery gives a red triangle suring flashing ota updates.... I spent 2 days on it...
Get s off.... Flash the appropriate RUU for your phone, and let the OTA install itself by checking software updates in setting- about....
This will definitely work....

Thanks Mathrania, but if you don't mind I have a few questions. 1. Is there any way to get s-off without using an adb shell? If so, can you point me to a link that has the instructions? 2. Where do I find the RUU for m7ul? No idea where to get that. I assume once i find it I can flash it using recovery? Your help appreciated man.

Yes there is, a saw somewhere... But i need to find it.... The title of the thread is s off without pc or something like that.... But i am outside rightnow.. Once i reach my place, i can point that out.... And why not abd????
Also, do fastboot getvar all, and post the screenshot here, just remove ur IMEI and serial from there(blackout that)... I will tell u about ur ruu too.

Ok, I managed to get s-off using terminal emulator. Much easier. Now, I just gotta find the RUU. To be honest, I am not sure how to do the fastboot getvar all or what you need in a screenshot. Let me know and I'll provide it.

Boot into bootloader, connect usb cable, slect fastboot..... Now on ur PC, open the folder containing your fastboot files ( hope u have knowledge about that... You can find the fastboot files in the hasoon all in one toolkit as well.... In that folder, Shift + right click... Select open command window here...
Then in command window, type fastboot getvar all.... Copy paste the results to me.

Thanks Agry English. Managed to get it done using the emulator method yesterday. Was much simpler. Not a fan of adb shells. Never was very good at cmd. All I need now is the RUU for my version and i should be good to go.

yeah i noticed when i read firther down the post, i did mine teh same way, but adb isnt all that bad to be honest, i used it to change the MID, looks daunting but as long as you do exactly was is in the guides it will be fine, no RUU for my version so had to make it something else
well my friend, i tried to find your original RUU, but what I am getting is the link to just an OTA...not the RUU which is required to revert you to stock...anyways..
Did you relock the bootloader??? Relock and try to flash the OTA ...it should work... you can do this while being s-off...no issues...
ALright, so I guess I need to relock the bootloader. I assume this will also mean unrooting? Not entirely sure what the easiest way to relock the bootloader is. Any suggestions?
Now, out of curiosity, is there a root method that I can use after updating that will allow me to continue getting updates without having to go through this every time?

While you are s-off, you can relock you bootloader via a simple command....and to be frank i dont remember it, but you can see that command in S-off Revone Thread...its very simple.....you will have to do that via terminal emulator as you are not an ADB guy ...also unrooting the phone, you can see some vidoe guides out there in the stickies...
but i am not sure, may be relocking itself will take away your root access... just try posting this question in the s-off thread to get an expert answer....
Alright! S-off, bootloader relocked. Gonna try the update. Wish me luck. And thanks so much for your help Math. I'll let everyone know how it went for future reference.

Dammit. Still no luck. I'm getting the same error I used to get even before all this when i try to install an OTA. At first it won't verify the signature, but when i push it via CMW anyway, it starts and hangs on "running bug_fix_1" and that's it. No go. So all, this for nothing. Any chance anyone's come across this issue and has a solution? I'd love to get the update. There are a few bugs that really piss me off.

OK, that makes sense. Sorry about the confusion. Not sure why I said stock recovery. Didn't even realize I did until you mentioned it. So, I'll try to flash stock rec and try again, otherwise, I'll just unroot and see if I can factory reset and start over. THanks again for your help.

Need help going back to Stock (Bell Canada HTC One)

Info:
Bell Mobility HTC One 32GB
S-OFF
H-Boot 1.54 Currently
Fully converted to Google Edition using 4.3 RUU
CID Changed to the Google One
I've literally been on here all day trying to figure this out. I need to sell the phone and can't afford to brick it.
Unfortunately, my Hard drive containing my Nandroids crashed and I lost them.
I cannot find a Bell Mobility RUU. There is a Nandroid backup on HTC1 Guru Here - Very first one listed under CWM Nandroids
http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/m7-cwm-nandroid-backup-cid-bm___001-1-29-666-5-zip/
How can I revert to stock with this?
Is that Nandroid a 4.1.2 Rom? Bell never got 4.2.2, they are still on 4.1.2 so I assume so?
I think I can do this - Any help would be appreciated, need to get this done ASAP.
1) Change my CID back to BM_001 using ADB/Fastboot commands
2) Flash Custom Recovery - CWM in this case using ADB/Fastboot commands
3) FIRMWARE? I'm on the stock 4.3 Google Edition Rom - Do I need to flash old firmware? (Hboot, Radios, etc). If so, what files do I flash and how? Can somebody provide a link here?
4) Restore the Nandroid Backup
5) Flash the Stock Recovery back? Where do I get this from for the Bell 4.1.2 rom?
I will leave the phone S-OFF for whoever buys it. Is this it? I need help with Part 3 specifically if this is the procedure.
If anyone can help I'd gladly buy ya a beer!
I know I'm probably over complicating this.... just little experience with HTC phones. My main questions are regarding the CID and Firmware.
Anyone?

Easy on the double posting
Anyway, I think you may have a problem with the touchscreen drivers if you're going to restore using a CWM backup.
Since you're s-off, why not just use the international RUU and change CID to something like HTC__001. Any reason you need to stay on Bell?

I am trying to revert back to Bell so I can unlock the phone. I purchased an unlock code and it does not work. From my research I've done, the phone needs to be on a stock ROM and CID in order for the unlock code to work.
Hey, sorry i have the same issue, i'm with bell as well. i bought and unlock code and then i tried unlocking my phone but it wouldn't work because i rooted it and installed a custom rom, i followed mike 1986 thread on how to unroot and relock your bootloader but as soon as i relocked my booter loader my phone says relocked and i have s-on but now it is stuck on boot loader and i can't sideload a rom because it fails every time. it detects my phone on fastboot but thats all i can do... is my phone bricked and no good now?!?

Ok got it.
Well the steps you describe sound right, but there's the problem of getting the firmware. vomer has a guide with different firmwares, but they're all for 2.24 and above.
Not to mention the issue with the touch drivers.
Why don't you try using the odexed stock rom from mike1986 thread, that would put a stock rom on your phone, and change CID to Bell, and try your unlock code. (maybe even stock recovery)

I just flashed this recovery to my sprint version and tried to accept the OTA and I got a red triangle during the flash, so I'm guessing it isn't right. I have another 510 that is currently under the christmas tree. When it gets unwrapped I will pull the stock recovery off of it and post it up here.

The red triangle is the stock recovery press vol+up and power after like 15 seconds.
I thought there was something botched with it too but that is how the stock recovery looks
When I flashed the ota on the stock phone (under the tree) I didn't see any triangles, only flashing goodness. So I think something is wrong.
Thanks. Ive been looking for this. i didnt backup this partition before i flashed twrp

follow this steps:
Prequisites:
1) ADB and Fastboot executables http://www.mediafire.com/download/3vgybfyv7u7tf69/ADB.rar
2) Stock recovery signed image: http://www.mediafire.com/download/jnl3nw9hvk5ouv5/recovery_signed.img
Steps:
1) extract ADB.rar to c;\ADB
2) On c:\ADB hit shift + right click mouse and select "open windows command here"
3) turn on your phone, and from your PC command type: adb reboot bootloader (this will reboot your phone into bootloader)
4)at bootloader type this: fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img
and you should see this:
Code:
sending 'recovery' (12100 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.237s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 0.865s]
finished. total time: 2.102s
5) if this doesnt work, just download the original rom for your carrier from HTC and execute the rom install from your PC: http://www.htc.com/us/support/rom-downloads.html
Your phone will be back to original with the recovery also... just remember to relock your phone before executing the Stock ROM exe (type this command to relock: fastboot oem lock)
Have a nice day

Stock recovery are not interchangeable. So if this is from something older, it doesn't have much value. I don't know what the likelihood is of future updates, but I like to be prepared.
If someone had an older ruu, I'd be pretty happy to have that, so ota files could be collected.

HTC Desire 510 - Problem overwriting memory block

Hi Guys,
Step 1.
I've dumped /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 which is called "Board info"from my HTC onto my computer and opened it with Hex editor.
Step 2.
This file contained some data and CID followed by IMEI. I've edited the CID to 11111111 HOPING that I'll get a superCID. I've overwritten the existing /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 file with my modified file. Operation succesfull and no problems shown by ADB.
Step 3.
I verified if I've done Step 2 correctly by repeating Step 1 and surprisingly the /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 doesn't seem to be overwritten which makes me really sad and I'd really appreciate if someone would be so kind enough to help me by answering why are my changes not taking effect ?
P.S. I've had the whole /dev partition remounted to be read/write as well as that to be extra sure I've changed permissions to 777 for /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 but I'm stuck at step 3, the only answers that come to me are that either I'm doing something wrong or the phone doesn't allow me to overwrite mem blocks.
PLX help :crying:

Thanks for your answer, I wasn't aware of that. You probably know the next question though - How do I get S-OFF ? I've tried an app called *SunShine* but I've had no success with it because it threw an error saying that I need to have a different ROM for the app to work. Ironically the reason I want superCID is to get a different ROM onto my phone ...

Sunshine does work 100% I can vouch for it. You simply need to go back to complete stock by using an RUU once your phone is completely stock including the stock recovery you can either ask me here for help with it or find @jcase over on his website theroot.ninja and I'm sure he will be more than happy to assist you with it... One other thing though if you're using a 64 bit phone it's not going to work with the sunshine app.

I have stock RUU downloaded and waiting but I can't install it because it's CID doesn't match with my phone CID. That's why I want superCID and that's what I meant when I said I want to get a "different ROM on my phone" , I should have made myself clearer in the last post. I'm currently running CynanogenMod 12.
So far I've tried the GoldCard maneuver and dumping memory block followed by hex editing and re-dumping it onto my phone (hence this thread) as well as the above mentioned SunShine app.
It feels like I'm drastically running out of options here, do you have any other advice ?

You really don't even need to be going through any of that crap if all you want is to use another rom... All you need to do is get an unlock code from HTC by giving them the token from your phone then you flash the unlock_code.bin and then flash a recovery of your choice I use twrp 3.0 at the moment because it's the newest one and make sure it's specifically for the HTC Desire 510 or it won't work after you flash the recovery you make a backup of your system before doing anything else so you have something to fall back on just in case and then you download the rom you want to either the sd card in the phone or to a computer and flash it and voila new rom... I suggest you search how to unlock the HTC Desire 510 bootloader and then search for how to root the HTC Desire 510 and after you read the step by step instructions you'll be able to get the rom on your phone... You'll need to install minimal adb and fastboot to c: drive to flash anything at all so download that too.

I've got it all done otherwise I wouldn't be running CynanogenMod 12 which I mentioned above. The thing is I don't have the backup I made for my original ROM. After an extensive research I've found a stock ROM which is suitable for my phone but it is not in the form of an image or zip file. It's a .exe Rom Update Utility (RUU) hence I'm dealing with all the stuff I've outlined in my previous post and looking for more help.

So I'm guessing you're using the CM12.1 that patrik made because the other one doesn't really work correctly and that leads me to believe your phone is a 64 bit then correct? What phone carrier are you using? I need a name.

Yes, Precisely CM 12.1-20151110-UNOFFICIAL-a11ul by patrik. Yes, my phone is 64 bit indeed. As for the carrier I've bought my phone unlocked so I don't know the original carrier, however, after investigating into my CID which is HTC__052 it turns out that Tesco is my carrier BUT I was using my phone with Vodafone UK the entire time and that's the RUU that I was trying to flash onto my phone with no success so far...

Because the Vodafone' CID isn't HTC__052 so you'll need to flash the Tesco one and you really don't have much of a choice at this point because there's no s-off for the HTC Desire 510 64bit and you unfortunately cannot change your CID without being s-off so your best bet to get stock back is to use Tesco if there's even one available.

Where are you downloading the rom from so I can look at it on my system and see if I can change the CID of it to match your phone.

I'm not sure which one you downloaded since it's showing me a whole list of them. If you find that the files are corrupted that's why they won't work.. in any case, do you have the unlock_code.bin from HTC? Save it forever.
Download this and place it in the backup folder on your sd card and then boot into recovery and flash it...

Are you sure? Did you try to boot it? Some people even have to extract the boot.img and flash it after the installation process finishes. What recovery are you using? Did you do a wipe on the partitions before flashing?
Yes I booted it and prior to writing my previous post I opened up the fastboot and tried fastboot flash of boot.img that I've extracted from that archive, the phone rebooted and that's about it, no changes made.

I changed it to match your CID so it would work. I made it awhile ago I just had it on the sd card so I changed the CID to yours and uploaded it.
