[Q] why do I'm unable to upgrade to kit kat? - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a 4.3 installed on my phone, I woul upgrade to 4.4, but I don' know how to do that.
If I check with pc companion, ittell me that there is no upgrade, and the same by OTA.
I'm wondering if is it possible that I'm still out of upgrade.
How can I upgrade it...?
TIA
Renato

Is your Z1 a UK unbranded one? Uk unbranded seem to be always the last one to get updates. You could back up your phone then perform a repair. Doing repair may wipe your phone so consider before doing it. BTW you have posted in Q&A section. Please move to Q&A Moderators many thanks

If you can't post in the correct section you are unlikely to know where the search button is either...

If you have root or unlock bootloader on your device you cant upgrade it through SUS or PCC. Lock it back or flash it via flashtool.

This is incorrect.
If you have root you can still update via PCCompanion or SUS, but you will lose root.
If you have an unlocked bootloader then you cannot use official tools such as PCCompanions or SUS, you can only use EMMA (Official tool from Sony for unlocked bootloaders)

ok, I thought I can do it with OTA or pccompanion. I thought it is a "regular" upgrade for Z1. Indeed I need flashtool? I need to root Z1 ?

You will be able to use PCCompanion once the update becomes available for you, they are not all released at the same time, it can roll out over a month or two.
In the meantime, you can flash a FTF using flashtool from flashtool.net and there is no need for root. It is just a repackage of an official download and made avaialable for all.
Find them in the FTF mega collection thread.... Use the search button.

[Q] Xperia T upgrading FW from 490 to 140

At the risk of being shot down in flames. What is the best way for going from 9.1.A.0.490 to 9.1.A.1.140 whilst retaining root etc?
I've got a std UK Xperia T, unlocked bootloader and generic european .490 and rooted.
Im looking for a basic step by step if possible, as I dont play around with the phone much. I managed to stuff up going to .490 which put me in a boot loop until I got it sorted. I prefer to avoid that scenario again if at all possible!
Thanks in advance
Update the official way via pccompanion and then rout again the same way you routed last time, probably by using bin4rys root many android method

No, In which case just flash .140 rom from the development section (My rom for example) but make sure it the right one for your phone, and flash it in recovery
Or just grab a FTF file of .140 and flash that in flashtool and then root like you did last time

Hi there
Just jumping on the "how can I update?" bandwagon, can I flash the Generic Central European fw onto my T? I am unrooted and have locked a bootloader. I'm in the UK and on EE. I have read the 1st post in the section saying this is fine to do, but I've also read an article on another website telling me that flashtool is only for unlocked bootloaders. Please can you advise?
You can flash using Flashtool with a locked bootloader and while unrooted.

Pccompanion = Only works on locked bootloader
Official Sony Flashtool (EMMA) = Only works on unlocked bootloader
Flashtool by Androxde and Bin4ry = Works on all devicex
Gave up after managing to get stuck on the sony logo.
Relocked bootloader, updated via SUS, unlocked bootloader and then rooted using bin4ry's method.

Simple, no
Don't accept any OTA firmware if you unlocked bootloader
You can update firmware via flashtool by downloading stock FTF firmware

Very good advice. Don't do OTA
If there is no ftf posted you can make one
Use PCCompanion and use the "repair" option. It will download the necessary files to flash your phone but will fail to flash because if your unlocked bootloader.
Then use flashtool to make the ftf from the downloaded files which ou can then flash in flashtool
the instructions on how to do this are in the all in one thread

Flash the new FW .136 via Flashtool v0.9.13 in Flashmode. Turn off the phone, hold volume down all the time, connect to PC, let windows install drivers, flash the FTF.

Ok, then you want the official update? Nobody know when it will available in your Country but is rolling out, if you do not want to wait you can download it from XDA and flash it via Flashtool, is the same like the official but not branded and no bloatware. BTW if you have problems like you just mentioned probably you should flash it via Flashtool.

There is no better way and I think is something wrong there. Maybe you should relock your bootlader and then update to .136.
Did you try to repair with PC Companion?
---------- Post added at 04:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:37 PM ----------
BTW, if you relock your bootloader probably you will can update via PC Companion. But somebody reported have problem to Unlock Bootloader again on .136

So finally this is the method that i figured out, that might work (worked for me).
1. Flash .534 via flash tool. (phone will boot up but you will have no network).
2. Root and restore TA backup
3. Install the latest update via sus
Good, just like I mentioned.

[Q] Update To 4.3 from 4.2.2

Hey guys i just bought Xperia Z1 C6903 on 4.2.2 Global-LTE_14.1.G.2.257 and i'm afraid to update it because some phones died after update, so how can i update it without any problems? please answer if you now dont just say maybe
THANKS!!!!
The phones died most of the time trying to root and downgrade. Just use Flashtool v0.9.13 and download the latest FW for your model from HERE, wipe Data, Appslog and Cache and all will be fine, or wait for OTA, but there is no difference.

The point is if he do not have Updates or he do not have the latest update and want to update then he have to use Flashtool, anyway flash from PC Companion or with Flashtool there is no difference, they do the same thing.

It says he got global version so he should get latest updates through SUS or pc companion. From what I can see hes phone is not carrier locked with bloatware. Flashtool is best for every locked and unlocked versions. It just sounded like he is afraid of using it, and that was bases for suggestion to keep it safe...
yeah this is it , but do i lose my stuff using flashtool? Please if you can give me the .FTF file that suits my phone
I can now update using PC Companion but some people posted on the thread that their phone died from this
I pressed thanks for all of you

HERE you find all the FTF for your model, choose which you want. I will recommend a Unbranded one.
To keep Apps and Data just uncheck "Wipe Data" in Flashtool and you will not lose anything.

[Q] Unable to upgrade from 4.2.2

Long story short, sent my phone away for warranty repair and it came back with 4.2.2 flashed on it. Never rooted it or modded it in any way. I wanted to update it back to 4.3 and from there eventually back to 5.1, however, the phone says that it's up to date - same thing with PC Companion. Tried to repair it via PCC and I also did a factory reset on it, both to no avail.
Is there any way to force the OTA update(unless I have to wait for X days) or is rooting and flashing the only way out of this? C6093, build 14.1.G.1.534, cust. no. 1276-1193.
Thanks in advance.

I am on mobile at the moment and hope
my search went correct. then you are on a branded swedish firmware from tele2.
Where are you from and what firmware was on your phone before you gave it to repair?
You can flash any firmware you want with the help of flash tool app.

You didn't have to unlock your bootloader to flash a firmware to your phone!
Did you backup your ta partition because unlocking your bootloader means you will loose your DRM keys?
