Official Sony Z2 Tablet Case - Xperia Z2 Tablet Accessories

This case I ordered with the tablet and it has been in it from the start. I like this case.
Tablet in case, closed

The case will z fold for a stand. Ridges in the inside prevent slipping
Case open on desk
Closer up on z fold
Case will roll up stand too. I don't think this is as secure, but may allow it to be in dock. I don't have a dock to test it.
Case has a cut out to enable dock use without removing the case. I don't yet have the official dock, but it fits in my third party one I use for my Z1 phone
Case closed. Is very thin.
The tablet clips at the corners, securely but not too firm. All ports, flaps and buttons are perfectly accessible. Here are the corner clips.
The case closes with a thin magnetic flap, and of course it's a smart cover to cut down on power button wear.
I like it. Not looking for another one.
Happy to answer any questions.

I ordered the case with my tablet too, my only gripe is that the headphone socket is on the bottom of the tablet so when the case is used as a stand in the most stable setting you can't plug headphones in!!!
The box shows a triangle fold to allow space for the headphones but it doesn't feel as steady, why oh why did Sony put the headphone socket on the bottom long edge of the tablet??? Why not on the same side as the volume and power buttons?

Ah. I have bluetooth receivers in my hi fi at home, and I use bluetooth apt-X headphones so I never even noticed where the headphone socket was on the tablet.
I don't actually see how you could plug headphones in at all with the tablet in this case when using the landscape stand

I've got the noise cancelling ones that use the tablet to do the noise cancelling, there's a picture on the box that the case comes in to show how it's meant to be but it means the tablet sits higher so isn't as stable

Some apps still insists on setting the orientation themselves and won't rotate 180°.
So yeah it sucks that the jack is at the bottom...

There are orientation apps that will allow you to force 180

Shouldn't need an app, the socket should have been on the side.............

I have just received the case but I'm not really happy with it!
The magnetic shutter always covers the infrarot port so that it's unusable. In addition to that, when the case is closed and im holding it vertically in my hands, the magnet is not strong enough and the case opens. I also have problems with the charging dock, I always have to open the case and put the back aways in order for it to suit in the dock, this is really stupid! What is your experience with this points?
I also find it relatively heavy and thick, the tablet doesn't lay as good in my hands as before...

The magnetic flap folds flat against the back of the case and holds itself out of the way of you need it to. At least it does on mine.
Yep, for the dock you do have to have the cover folded over, so that's how I do it. It's only in the dock when I'm asleep so not much of a problem.
If I hold the tablet with the case closed I can get the front to slip, the closing flap isn't that strong. It hasn't popped open in my bag so I've not worried about it so far.
I think it's just the right thickness. There is a full plastic tray for the tablet to sit in for rigidity.
At the end of the day, cases are ultra personal. I've been lucky with this Sony Style case, it suits me fine. I've still not found the perfect case for my xperia Z1, and I've tried all the ones that others think are great
Sent from my SGP512 using Tapatalk

I've ordered one for my tab but I'm not looking forward to it all that much. The front-only cover on my Nexus 10 was almost perfect (would have been perfect if it was foldable).
I haven't actually received my Z2 yet but do any of you think a front-only cover is achievable? Based on what I have seen in pictures, my guess is no
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk

What were they thinking
Seriously why oh why put the headphone jack at the bottom of a device meaning you can't use it in a cover stand when on the move or in a public place and need to use earphones. It's a serious design flaw.
Can anyone post pics of their tab in the case and with headphones in? I've just ordered the official case. I live the tab and bought it knowing the headphone was in the worst place possible but hoping in a case and using with earphones that it's not that unstable. Anyone confirm!?

There is a hole for headphones at the bottom left of the official case. So there shouldn't be anything to worry for you.
Edit: Unless you really want to stand the tablet with headphones plugged in. Theoretically there ist one position where you can let the headphone jack plugged in but I can't get this position to stay stable.
But if the case is closed or only open on the front there is no problem with headphones.

Does this case add much weight?

Great official case
I take it all back. The official case is perfect to use with headphones in 2 positions. It is light and feels sturdy in both positions say when on a train or flight. It's also light and doesn't add bulk.
I'm certainly pleased with the case. It does what I need it to while watching movies on the go and when I want to rest the case on a flat surface.

Where are you guys finding the Sony cases? I don't see them on the Sony Store website. Are you using the Z1 cases?

Thanks. just as I thought. they're not available in the U.S. yet, probably because the tablet hasn't been released yet.
Amazon has a few for $45 US if anyone is interested.

Cheaper than the original Z Folder Cover!
The one i found in a shop was £60!

Thanks for the pics. Very clear.

Verizon Xperia PLAY case means it won't fit in the Verizon dock.

Why am I not surprised that Verizon would produce two main staple products and not make them work with each other?
The Xperia PLAY case makes it so that it's just a tad too thick to properly dock, shame because the Verizon case is actually amazing (and the design chosen for the back just kicks outstanding amounts of ass). Anyone tried sanding away enough of the dock so that the protected Xperia PLAY will fit?
I could understand if these weren't Verizon-branded products, because expecting a third party case to fit with another dock would be absurd... but these are both Verizon branded products.

Mind posting a picture of how your sanded down dock looks? I've been going unprotected just to make use of the dock, and seeing how you pulled it off could give me some pointers.

So you are upset that Sony Ericsson didn't keep in mind that people would want to put a case on their phone when they packaged their product into a verizon wireless box? umm... Thats every multimedia dock and car docking station, not just the Xperia's.
Verizon simply repackages accessory products. They didn't make the case and they didn't make the dock.
Just because this is a common issue doesn't mean it's not a legitimate complaint. Docks should compensate for cases with adjustable-length usb connectors, etc.

No one is saying that it's not a legitimate complaint. We're saying that he needs to complain to Sony Ericsson for making the dock that way. It's like complaining that the official Apple iPhone 4 dock doesn't fit the iPhone 4 or 4S with the official iPhone bumpber case (it doesn't) but directing your complaint to Verizon just because you bought it there and the package said "Verizon" on it. Verizon has always resold official accessories with their own packaging.
Remember I did this and it still doesn't work. From what I can see the only part stopping it is the corners so ill try to sand them down and see what happens. I'm almost at the base of the usb connector so I don't have much more I can sand if this doesn't work

Wow. I'd find some kind of generic device dock and add a magnet to trigger dock mode before resorting to that. Even salvaging the original dock, it seems that you could use a jack extender intended for an original iPhone to extend the audio jack and a microUSB cable adapter to extend the other. Good luck!
I should point out that the audio cable that Sony Ericsson sometimes bundles with it can't be plugged in at the same time as the microUSB cable because it is a right-angle plug and the cavity only allows it to lay toward the USB port when the dock is sitting flat on a surface. My solution is to buy a different cable. Let's see your solution!
It is my expectation that premium cases should come with their own line of compatible accessories from the case manufacturer. I'm surprised that Otterbox doesn't make cases AND docks meant to fit devices with their case on it. They could even use some cross-device designs to make some docks that fit several of their cases. That said, I'm triple-surprised that even Apple doesn't make a dock or something to fit their iPhone 4 or 4S with the official bumper case installed. I have several universal dock adapters made to fit it with the case on but they are made by someone else and they only fit "universal" docks (not the iPhone 4-specific dock).
I bought it for $5 from Clearence at the local vzw store and never used it so destorying it to get doesn't really bother me, atleast I know it wouldn't work.

I had a hard case but hated it, it would push the screen protector off when clipped onto the front half, was so thick/chunky, and it made the volume buttons harder to press and of coarse couldn't use the SE DK300 dock. I went to using a pouch made for the XP and can't be happier, "naked" the phone feels and looks good and the pouch provides protection when in pocket/not in use

Is it the official Sony Ericsson one that has the pull tab that pulls the phone from the pouch? I started using that but I dropped my phone while watching a Youtube video and cracked the touchscreen. It was a cheap and easy fix but the case is still chipped and cracking in places. I'll probably switch housings sometime in the future but there aren't any Stealth Blue ones available. There are no salvageable housing parts on the cheap dummy model either.

"Home-made" Smart Case.

I've managed to get hold of a bunch of flip cases that "should" fit the Nexus 7.
Going to attempt to modify it by installing a magnet to re-create the "smart case" idea, but most likely add a few other features like a holder for a stylus, or a channel to run a USB OTG cable inside of the case. I'll post some pictures when I put one together.
Anyone else making their own?

I tried making my own case but the problem I have is that once I find a magnet strong enough to activate the "Sleep/Wake" function on the front it is also strong enough to put it to sleep when I have the cover folded to the back. I have watched a bunch of video reviews of the numerous cases with the "Smart" function and they never fold the cover to the back to see if it activates the function while you're holding it in that manner.

I will send you a video tomorrow of it when flipped back. The answer is that it does not turn the screen off when folded back. However it does not fold flush due to the design of the case. kind of a quirk and slightly awkward to hold.

Upon further research I have found that the cases online probably use some sort of "shield" that deflects the magnetic field, such as iron, (shim)steel, or muMetal.
I'm curious, where did you acquire the magnet you're using? I have tried all kinds of magnets around the house and even bought some from a craft store with varying strengths. And it would either not be strong enough or too strong (when using with the case I have).

I cut it out of a stuffed animal fridge magnet. The poor moose didn't see that one coming. I also see these magnets in the magnetized clips you can hang things off the fridge. Yeah, I tried that at the local Hobby Lobby with no such luck. It seems other people are reporting the problem with cases bought online here and here. I'm just going to see if I can find some steel or something to shield it. Thanks for the help.
Also, I wanted to thank you for that video on Youtube about the OTG cable and PS3 controller working "out of the box". I ordered the same cable as soon as I saw that. Can't wait to play Dead Trigger with a controller.
Try both sides the the magnet. Theoretically it shouldn't matter but I've had different results with different sides of a magnet.

Have a small Neodymium magnet barley strong enough to work through the front of the case, then mounted on the inside of the case in the cover. So with the case folded all the way back it is not strong enough to activate the sensor.
I really want to try to make something out of fabric and cardboard. I'm such a ***** when it comes to my devices. Even with cases I always sit them on napkins and coasters haha.
Plus I want something thin that just protects the back and has a thin flap. Nothing fancy just something that doesn't add 3x the thickness of the N7.
Maybe superglue a flap on haha. Stupid Apple and their awesome smartcase. I'm also concerned about a case hindering access to the buttons. They are already a pain to access when laying on a flat surface.

Nexus 7 Car Mount Hack - The Best Yet - Guaranteed

Over on Reddit user juice-digital came up with what I consider to be the least expensive, best looking and versatile car mount yet.
http://imgur.com/a/FjFAw#0
Basically it's a cheap TPU case with suckers on the back though you could use and adapt any mount system.
I've figured out a way to adapt the TPU case to my existing Herbert Richter system.
I'm sure you could figure out a way of adapting this to fit your car for less than £10 / $10
Hat tip: juice-digital :good:
Suction cupped to the face of the stereo? A $200+ device and they're trusting its well being against the force of gravity with two little suction cups? Looks nice but there isn't a chance in hell I'd ever use that setup

I wouldn't use suction cups, either although the guy says it's fine in his car.
The point is the versatility of the inexpensive TPU case with any mount you like.
Like this only with an N7 on it

Inexpensive, secure and demountable for security
I've done this in a very simple way .... Velcro!! Didn't expect it to work to be honest but it works great, sticks on and pulls off extremely quick, I did plan on using it with the app " torque " which gives you mpg, bhp, turbo boost etc.... but my 05 vw transporter was not compatible ( works fine on my vw Passat ) but as a stereo, sat nav, DVD player its great, recommend giving it a try

That's what I'm going to use.
I have some industrial strength 50mm wide Velcro which will be well strong enough to support the N7
I have two spare HR vent mounts and a TPU case only costs £3
Blindingly obvious once you've seen it! So glad I didn't waste any money on a mount.
I actually have a better idea for a while. Use a cheap tpu case and use 2 magnets from cellet. The magnets would be EASILY strong enough to hold even with a bumpy ride. You don't even have to look to place your device as the magnets are strong. And I find Velcro pretty tacky....

Or use super glue ... magnets would be too bulky and although they have great holding potential they have poor shear strength.

Don't post if all you can manage is nonsensical babble.
Well you see... the magnet isn't what you stick on the device. Its a very slim piece of black metal. The magnet is what you stick in the car held by 3m tape. Trust me, one magnet may be enough to hold the tablet. I suggested 2 just to be sure and so it doesn't rotate while you drive. This way the device still looks good and you can leave the tpu case on all the time. When you get to the car you just place the device somewhere in the area of the magnets and the power of them does the rest. Like I said I do this with my phone when I used to use a case. The ONLY reason I stopped doing this is because I like having my devices naked and true to the way they were meant to look and feel...
http://www.amazon.com/Cellet-Retail...1350844402&sr=8-1&keywords=cellet+cell+magnet
There is a 3 pack somewhere On Amazon for like 10 bucks. The size of the magnet can act like a spacer if there are buttons or anything in the way. Also the silver piece is not the metal you use. Its the little black one.

You're making a huge assumption that is wrong for some people, including me. I never for a second thought of using a piece of metal on the device itself. In my case I have a cheap poetic case with magnets super glued to it with soft Velcro over the magnets to pad when docked. Then there are magnets behind the bezel around my touch screen and I simply dock my tablet with those magnets. You see two magnets attract each other better than just a piece of metal and one magnet. Simple physics. Works great for me, and I just take the tablet out of the case when I leave the car, solving your bulk problem.

Never been a problem with any of my phones... tho now that I think about it, perhaps a misplaced magnet would trigger the auto wake/sleep function. If I ever get around to doing it myself I'll post it up.
@spongers. I realize magnet to magnet is stronger... the product I recommended doesn't need to be any stronger, in fact using 2 of them might be too strong. The only way to get it off may be to slide it off compared to just pulling it straight out. I also would, at least in the case of the n7 only use the case as a car dock.
Also this is very close to the idea I had, you should post pics.
I have a Pure digital radio in the car that fits to it's mount with a magnet, very solid fit even being bounced around on UK roads because it also has a couple of nipples that fit into depressions on the bracket to prevent it sliding off sideways. A magnet by itself as said above doesn't have enough shear strength to hold a heavy item like an N7 securely.

As soon as I can get decent photos I definitely will! My DSLR is on the fritz and my phone won't take good enough pics to post.

Cheap dock with USB audio out

I have this item and can confirm it works.
EZOPower Dock Cradle
The phone does not sit in it super snug, but it is tight enough on a solid surface. I wouldn't try it in a car!
The charging plug in the bottom of the base is adjustable, and should allow usage with most cases.
Make sure you go to Settings/Accessory and click on 'Audio output mode' to enable the audio out of USB.
I have this on my nightstand and it is connected to my stereo clock radio. The audio is good with the volume all the way up on the phone, otherwise there is some static that comes through the speakers.

Interesting I didn't know android supports audio out with microusb
This is just what I was looking for but it probably won't fit with my Defender case. Anyone know otherwise?

Unless the case is very thick on the USB end, it should fit. The USB connector on the dock slides a good 1/4" or more from front to back.

Well, the Defender does have a large bottom But, I'm pretty sure an exact knife/dremel and some plastic welding should be able to accommodate. Looks like the USB plug is pretty flush and I'd need it to stick out 1/4”-3/16” to make a solid connection. Unfortunately, this dock seems like the only one that is open enough to run larger vases. At least it's cheap enough to try out

Well, for $20 I wouldn't call it cheap enough just to try it out if you are not sure if it's going to work I prefer $3 ebay cases to go under dremel surgery (like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/White-Dock-...S_Cell_Phone_PDA_Chargers&hash=item5af01ebc65) although I had to make an excuse with that other $15 charger/dock from tmart for ZL9300.
But this particular EZOPower dock looks very good with plenty of room and that padding in the back can always be removed (I assume) to give extra room for a case. Regarding Defender there is another problem. The micro usb port cover is very thick and might be in the way when you flip it backward to fit inside of any cradle/dock. I read somewhere of people actually complaining that even a pressure of that port cover on the usb charging cable loosens up micro-usb connector on the phone. So, unless you cut off that port cover, I'm not sure how it's going to work with Defender case.

Oh yeah, I cut that thing off as soon as it came out of the package. Makes it much easier to dock in my car with my ProClip.
Also, that eBay dock you linked doesn't have 3.5mm audio out. That's what I'm after with a desk dock.

OP stated that you can enable audio out of USB, just need an adapter/splitter I guess? At least that's how I understood his post cause that dock doesn't have audio out and he suggested its not for the car.
Btw, I don't think I came across cables with micro-usb going to the phone and usb/audio out splitter on the other side. Does it exists? Also, do you need to use OTG adapter for N2 to be a host or not?
To OP, how do you connect it to your radio?

Yes, iBolt's xprodock now ships with one, which should supposedly be available separately in about 4 weeks, and there are cheap ones on eBay which apparently don't work on aosp/cm based roms but are fine on Samsung based roms

I ended up getting an Amzer Piano Dock. It looks like the same dock as this, except the description states that it works with most cases whereas this dock's description says it works with thin cases only. I'll report back later today if it works with the defender case
-edit- the Amzer works with a Defender if your happy to take a dremel to your new $30 dock and like plastic welding or hot glue lol.

Flip cases that do not cover notification LED, USB and volume rocker

I've searched and searched but so far found nothing perfect.
I'm looking for a case that is thin and protects the screen. Something like the original Samsung flip case, but better designed.
I have some requests that so far have killed ALL the cases I've seen - I found none yet matching all:
Must haves:
1-Notification LED visible as I want to be able to glance at the phone on the desk and be aware of new SMS/calls without having to open it.
2-USB dock accessible as I often charge the phone in places where having the case open wouldn't be handy
3-Volume/Power buttons easily accessible, preferably, exposed directly.
4-Cutout for speaker and mic, so that calls can be maintained after the case is flipped closed.
5-SPen easily accessible.
Nice to have:
6-If possible, it should be vertical-oriented and not be too thick, nor fugly.
So far I found no flip cover that matches at least ALL the first 5 requests. Any suggestions? Thanks.
I have the oem flip cover and although it covers the volume button it is thin and I've had no problem adjusting the volume while it's closed. I always use it closed when I'm in a call. Keeps my yucky face off the screen.
Just a little input for you in case you haven't actually handled the phone with this flip cover installed.
As far as the led cut out I know I watched a you tube review of a flip cover case that had a cut out for led.I remember because the guy doing the review got it wrong at first and thought the opening was for the camera...then turned the phone over and saw the blinking led...
Trying to remember which case though. Saw it in one of these threads....

Btw...oem flip cover does not in any way affect the usb port...

As for the Samsung default case, keeping it closed might be indeed handy while on calls. I have imagined myself holding it with the case on the back but it doesn't seem comfortable. If the volume buttons remain easily pressible even with the cover, I guess I can live with that.
However, the covers block the screen, so during the day at work I will not be able to quickly realize if there is an SMS or other event (we usually have the phones on vibrate and on the desk). Being able to see the led would be great as that would allow to keep the cover closed. Surprising to see how samsung finally added LEDs to SGS3 and Note 2 but didn't bother to make them visible on the case.
Going to try to google some more, perhaps something with a LED cutout shows up.
Found it. I must be bored today!

The noreve leather flip case. Has cut outs for all buttons and the led.
It flips vertically instead of to the side...
Link is for a review which also has pics and a video. Looks like they're pricey but very nice quality.
I should probably get off the couch note and actually do something today...

Thanks planetbeen, that is exactly the format I was looking for. It is amazing how hard it is to find flip cases with LED cutouts. If the screen is completely covered, I figured having the LED visible would be useful in any case.
about 47 Eur/65 USD. Pricey, but1 the materials look good and there are cutouts for notification LED and even camera. There's even a belt clip option available for 6 Eur. Nice, very nice.
http://www.noreve.com/langue/en/product/Samsung_Galaxy_Note_2_Tradition_leather_case.html
Now that I grabbed the free flip cover from the Facebook promo, when it gets here, I will drill a hole in the cover where the notification light is.
I bought the LGND Premium Hard-Shell Folio It's not too bad. I like. You can kinda see the light come thru center ear mesh hole area.
I took a better look at the Noreve and sadly, it seems they forgot something... there is no cutout for the USB dock. That means you cannot charge the device without opening the flip. Very annoying and not practical in some cases.
Also, the phone cannot be used on calls with the flip closed... there is no cutout for the speaker nor the mic at bottom. Nothing in the designed seemed to make this impossible, but they simply decided not to add it or overlooked the feature.
I guess my search for a flip case with "cut out holes for everything" remains active... there are several cases that have SOME of the features but so far, none with all cutouts.

Any brand using this layout but adding cutouts for the speaker, mic and USB would make some good money, IMHO...

Buy any case that you like an use a quality leather punch to achieve your goal. Scared, visit a local leather/craft shop and they will probably do it for you for free.

I tried to do an LED mod on a few cases, but it failed. I used a leather hole punch and got a perfect circle cut out where the LED is. I used ridiculously strong epoxy to glue the metal studs on for a different flare. Also, the weight of the studs really keep it closed (although it really does seem to stay closed nicely. Fits the phone perfectly, very minimal.

Modding the leather is a possibility. Should be easy for the led light, as easy as punching a new hole in a belt. Not so sure about the USB port.
Still, it feels a bit wrong to have that trouble with cases costing a lot of money (like the Noreves) because the manufacturers don't bother to add a little tweak to new models.
If nothing perfect shows up I'll probably go with that approach tho. Don't want to drop the Note and fracture the glass like on my SGS2.
What about this one http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/noreve-tradition-b-leather-case-for-samsung-galaxy-note-2-p37232.htm

Noreve screwed up on all cover designs for the Note 2.
My favorite (model A, with the flip) has no USB/mic/speaker slots.
That side-flip one, model B that you mention, has indeed USB+Led+Mic but has no speaker for voice calls while closed. And as far as I can tell, the volume buttons are also not easily accessible while closed (I use them often while playing audio).
The quest continues. Meanwhile, I got this cheap one that has all the features I need except the LED cutout. Other than that, all buttons/holes are accessible and you can fully use it closed, including for charging and talking. Material is probably nasty, but functionality appears to be better.
Since it costs about $5, drilling the hole won't be as annoying as doing it to $50 covers. :fingers-crossed:
Still no Note II nor case but both should arrive tomorrow. I suspect the case will be acceptable but will not close all that good as it has no magnet.
If anyone else finds one matching those requests on the first post, please share... :fingers-crossed:
The Spigen SGP wallet case is the best case I currently own. It is on the expensive side but it is worth it!
I'd just be happy with a simple "Barely There"-style case that has a slot for credit cards, like the one I had on my GS2.
Going to bump this up a little as I'm wondering if there are more offers in the market now... that is, flip cases with LED holes...
Still nothing good with a LED cutout?

No led hole but could be easily made with hole puncher.

I've seen flip covers that allow for caller ID and swiping to answer without having to open the case. I'm surprised they do not have an LED cut out though.
