If you root this phone you'll lose the fingerprint scanner - Galaxy S 5 General

I've read that the fingerprint scanner is being embedded with Knox. Samsung said this, so it's true.
So there are people saying that if you root and trigger Knox you'll lose and break the fingerprint scanner.
Those who are buying this phone and usually root their phones, aren't you worried? If the fingerprint scanner is one of the reasons you're buying this phone you'll end up breaking it, and when you try to sell it in the future to upgrade to another phone you'll have to warn buyers that the fingerprint scanner doesn't work, and they may decide to not buy your phone.

I highly doubt Samsung is going to physically disable a feature of the phone just because you decided to root it. I don't know about North America but I think this would surely be an illegal practice in the EU and something like this would create such a negative backlash towards Samsung.

It's not illegal.
They're embedding the fingerprint scanner with Knox. So if you root you'll break it. As simple as that.
Doesn't have to do anything with legal or illegal.

@leoaudio13 has rooted his phone and told me it still works. So, whatever you've read, it's BS, probably written by a hater.

I broken my screen but my bootloader is unlocked

Just this morning I broke my nexus's screen. After I was finished crying about it I called up HTC and they said they would replace the screen for a price or I could send it back, they would need a credit card on file, but they would replace it for free since its still under warranty. My problem is, my bootloader is unlocked and I'm rooted. I told them on the phone that I would think about it and call them back, got a case number and all that. I didn't want to tell them about my bootloader because I thought they would write it down and hold it against me. My question is, if I send it back to them and they see the bootloader is unlocked will they charge me for another phone instead of replacing it for free since I voided the warranty by rooting it? Or is my hardware warranty still valid? Also would it be risking it sending it back with an unlocked bootloader for an exchange? or should I just get the screen replaced?
Thanks!
Btw this is how the horrible accident looks

Have you ever tried the search button? This has been discussed SOOOOO many times already. I personally have had 2 phones swapped out with HTC, both with unlocked bootloaders. I received replacement phones with no charge to my card.
I used the search button, but none of the topics answered my question directly, most of them just talk about having a 3rd party replace there screen or their screen had dust and HTC replaced it due to a hardware defect by them. I even asked the guys at android central, they never gave me a clear answer. Thanks for you're answer tho, I was looking for someone with a personal experience of swaps
oh my god that poor nexus!! *cries*
anyways what he means is that HTC has been known to look past the bootloader and replace it for free if youre still under warranty. its like they dont really care we are doing what we are doing

lol no problem. most times they look past that. hopefully they will for u too
be prepared to pay for the screen... cracked screens are not covered under warranty bootloader locked or otherwise..

I need you help, buddy. How to relock?

There are some problems with my nexus one.
I went to the ****ing HTC S'pore to repair it. After 2 weeks, I got the news and the quotation from their engineers. They said that "because you rooted your phone, you are not allowed to get the warranty any more, unless you can make the lock disappear and you will get the warranty again and get the free repair".
SOS Everybody, HELP!! Thx.
dude that seriously sucks. bad news first. you can't relock it. it can't be done. the good news. there've been multiple cases of people sending in rooted phones and still getting there warranty honored.(some guy sent his in 3 times even with them all unlocked). HTC will fix if its a hardware defect but if you bricked it your out of luck.
Actually cannot.
I have sent it in 5 times, sucker from HTC rejected 5 times.
**** HTC..
Uh, why blame HTC? Did you miss the big WARNING presented to you while unlocking the bootloader?
So let me get this right.
-Your phone came with a warranty
-You proceeded to do something that CLEARLY warned you of voiding the warranty
-You did it any way
-You expect HTC to still honor the warranty.
LOL

I have sent 2 phones into HTC with unlocked bootloaders and they have accepted both of them. Both had the dust under the screen.
Sent mine in for dust under the screen and got a replacement with no questions asked.
Mine was unlocked and they had every right in the world to deny me but didn't.

I had my unlocked Nexus swapped due to screen burn. No charges. The took the phone and honored the voided warranty
Guys. The OP is from Singapore. The HTC service in Singapore is completely useless. Night and day should one compare with the US. Probably cos there is little or no consumer protection rights in Singapore. But i digress...
I too have sent in my Nexus one with an unlocked bootloader. I would suggest the OP read my ordeal here to have a clue on how to work around them.

6T Mistook My Brother for Me - Face Unlock

As the title says, my brother was able to unlock my phone because my 6T mistook his face for mine. To be fair, we do look very similar but he's 6 years younger - obviously not twins. It wasn't just once either, 10 out of 10 times it unlocked for him within 1 second. I know face unlock isn't the most secure option but I was still a bit surprised.
Face unlock is not very secure at all. It's more of a convenience thing. That's why it cannot be used for auth in any kind of banking or secure app. A similar face structure can likely fool it. Again, if you need security then you need to use a fingerprint instead. It's not advanced like "FaceID" or w/e apple calls it. The hardware simply isn't there for it.
Only one can survive now. Take your brother on a camping trip...
He's 4 inches taller and weighs 75lb more than me. It was nice knowing you.

As others have said, face unlock isn't that secure and shouldn't be relied upon if you want strong security. Add a pin or pattern for the most secure methods, or just accept that your mates can unlock your phone with a photo of you

Hey, FRP Bypass is not encouraged by XDA as it is considered aiding in gaining access to stolen phones, I'd recommend deleting the thread before it is brought to attention of any mod.

Do you mean we have thieves on XDA?
People will always do what they want to do.
Limiting knowledge will never be a solution.
Only you can take care of your steps.
If you are committing something illegal, you are certainly subject to the actions of the law.
No matter where, whether on the internet or outside.
No one can be held responsible for other people's steps.
If you have bad intentions, it will not be my actions that will stop you.
Take care of your steps, my friend.
Because I take care of mine.
If all you want is to start a dispute, be cordial and stop replying me.
Thank you very much.

Alright, I came with a polite and friendly approach and I have no intentions of any dispute. But if you think due to previous incidents in other threads I'm just trying to start an argument, it's up to you.
