Nice install there. You mentioned audio thumb issues in your videos. You could use a dcdc usb. Can't post link, google it You can set it up so that power cuts out somewhat earlier or later so you won't have that thumb. Having simular issues atm, still need to order one too

Nook Color Teardown

There's a gallery of NC teardown pics at zdnet. XDA isn't letting me post the link because i'm not verified, so maybe someone else can.
This was inevitable, but I hadn't been able to find it until today. I thought others might be interested as well.
http://www.zdnet.com/photos/nookcolor-teardown/487636 here it is
From the pictures I see a good possibility for a bigger battery, or even adding a second one. Lots of room, it won't be pretty but something could be fashioned to fit.

Looks good.
Nice to see some more details about the NC coming out, I have yet to find a *detailed* list of the real hardware specs though.. most of the "tech specs" list mention supported ebook formats...
I ordered one of these the other day via a relative in the US and hopefully will be getting it next week some time.
I will miss the haptic feedback though so am wondering if it will be possible to replace the useless mono speaker with a motor from a mobile phone or something..

Cool idea. But it'll only work for typing and maybe apps that have clicking sounds. Still, it should work just fine. Of course you'd have to attach it to the inside real tight. Duck tape won't do

Thanks, my mind is kinda running over with ideas actually
From the teardown pics the internals seem pretty basic and there is hopefully a good bit of space. I would love to know if there are any available usb / jtag / etc headers available though.
If not I was thinking also about the possibility of modifying the usb connector with a switch and a usb 3g dongle inside, I just don't know if there is a 3g dongle that is not based on mini pcie though.
As for the haptic feedback I guess you can just assign a "sound" to everything that should produce feedback.
What about the accellerometer, is that sufficient to control cars in steering wheel based games?
/mrintegrity
To answer your very last question yes.. I have Asphalt5 running and won my first race.

The usb dongle would have to support android. To my knowledge there isn't one... but physically it is possible to stick it inside. They aren't that big, just look big cause of the plastic casing.
I think realistically, for now a bigger battery should be the first thing attempted, given the OS limitations we'd face with other mods. It would also allow us to run the NC at 800 mhz at all times via setcpu.

Well, I haven't even got mine yet. I can see on the tracking page that it's "delivered" but my dad is away for the weekend so it will be monday before he even sends it to me! I am in Sweden so it will probably take another 5 days after that

What version of Asphalt are you running? Does it stretch correctly or is it stupid and square in the middle?

Did you download from the Gameloft site? I couldnt get the version from my G2 to get past the license check, and the only other version I've tried is a pirated 3.13 version. I would be glad to pay for it if I knew it would work.
Tried disabling the compatibility mode and the top of the screen is blank and I have to press high to get selections to work.
EDIT: I figured it out. You have to load a version made for Samsung Galaxy Tab or Galaxy S. I downloaded a version from Gameloft.com with Galaxy Tab selected as my phone and the game displays fine. If you purchase from their website you have to do some trickery. When they text you a download link, just type the link address from your phone in a browser on the Nook Color and the download should start and install the game.
isolated_epidemic - I'm having the same issue as you with Asphalt, as well as some of the other GameLoft games. Does anyone have a solution for this?

[Q] HDMI Output for Captivate

Ive been a close follower to the Serendipity ROM and is super stoked bout version 7 that was just released! But because I have not posted anything in this forum because I usually find my answer just by searching, I cannot post in the thread dedicated to Serendipity 7 until I have some posts. I was wondering if MikeyMike01 and the Serendipity crew had any plans on adapting and creating the software and hardware of the Samsung Captivate to support HDMI output through the microusb? Thanks for anyones help!
I could and may be wrong, but i think HDMI OUT is a hardware thing and that we are not able to fix that by flashing software. We have TV out, but i know it lacks full HD support for transferring to a larger screen.
There is or was a micro-usb to HDMI cable supposedly available.

I have no doubt there is a micro USB HDMI cable that is available and will probably fit the captivate.. but will it work? as the captivate does not have HDMI functionality.

this has been discussed to death in the accessories section. cables are available, phone's hardware cant support video signal out thru usb port
hmmm.... thank you all for your replies. I saw a discussion about a year ago but i dont remember if anyone said they ever tried creating a ROM or other means that would make it capable. If anyone regularly talks to MikeyMike01 about Serendipity or the other developers (Sorry for those of you I am leaving un-named. Some reason this name is the only one I can remember.) could someone direct him this way? thanks!
Hey everyone my curiosity was struck again... After going through some forums about new ROM's for the captivate, and after trying several and stopping on the awesome Doc's Master ICS for the cappy, I have noticed some people have stated they use the micro usb cable to hdmi on the samsung captivate... I have ordered a micro usb to hdmi cable because I have the spare time and will try some of these ROMs some people have stated the cable works on. I will post back my findings probably around the beginning of next week and keeping my fingers crossed that something good will come from this...
Order Arrived!
My usb to hdmi arrived and its samsungs version. I will start trying some different ROMs for the cappy and post if i find any that work. I have a feeling this is going to be an unsuccessful quest but hey, it doesn't hurt to try it out.

Video output

Is there any accessories, which should I order to connect my Nexus 7 to video projector (HDMI, VGA)?
I thought there was a USB to HDMI cable somewhere... i found it in a other post.
dont have a link..
I was under the assumption the N7 has no video out support?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
You mean anything like this http://www.amazon.com/Menotek-Adapter-IMPROVED-Protocol-Sensation/dp/B005F9W6DU?
So it seems it will not work http://www.theverge.com/2012/6/29/3127278/nexus-7-mhl-usb-otg
Did't know that.. like other things about the N7
so i dont have to order this.
I was hoping it would have usb host aka usb on the go so that I could hook up my Canon DSLR and use this as a remote shutter/video screen for shooting advanced movies etc. It was more of a side wish, but not a killing point, however I really do hope future firmwares would include this.
I'm guessing google don't want any video out accessory because they plan on selling the Nexus Q
no MHL and no HDMI.
basically there is no video-out on the device. sucks but true.
No MHL
Not having MHL support and no support to external HDD/pen drive was a big disappointment indeed.
For the lack of MHL, there might be soon a great alternative: Android Transporter software + Raspberry Pi
For external HDD/pen drive support, I'm sure someone will figure out a solution soon

Wireless Mirroring

Hello y'all,
I'm a school teacher and the school just bought me a Nexus7 and I LOVE IT! I'm here because I use Power Point everyday and I was wondering if there is an accessory or a way to connect my Tablet to my HDMI projector wirelessly, so I can slid through my solids on my tablet. Any help would be great.
Thanks Guys!
Mirroring just isn't possible on the N7 currently :crying:
can you use the bluetooth to do a remote desktop with a laptop that is hooked up to the projector?
just a suggestion
I know this isn't exactly what you are looking for but if you can get a computer connected to the projector and the n7 on the same network there are several good PC remote apps. I used andremote for a long time and was happy with it.

You can use Splashtop Remote Desktop from the Play store
Look at mirrorop in market.
U can mirror nexus on a PC, or on another tablet/one.
I mirrored my Xoom to nexus7 and had xoom connected to TV so I had the Xoom screen on my TV and my nexus 7 and full control of xoom from my 7.

Miracast
if you have a pc connected to the display http://pptremotecontrol.com/ is great for Power Point presentations on the android device you can see the slide and notes, control the presentation and a virtual pointer on the screen.

Just a protocol, you need software and hardware that uses it.
Lot of good suggestions so far but they all require another expensive computer or tablet. The easy solution that being a simple hardware device that listens on WiFi and connects to an HDMI video device without another computer that the Nexus 7 can talk to.
For a teacher, business, home user, you plug this device into any HDMI video device and play, images, video, whatever you have on the screen.
It's coming, but not here yet.

You might want to consider a device like this the infinitec pocket tv http://shop.infinitec.com/ is is not a method to let you use your nexus but it is a android device with a hdmi output and a remote control. easy to carry and a lot less expensive than a pc.

Miracast is JUST a protocol. It is not an app, or a program. It is a standard that a number of hardware vendors are collaborating on. You need software and hardware that supports the protocol to use it.
Decent article on it:

.... I give up hope for humanity's stupidity
Tegra 3 already supports miracast, just needs to be enabled in the FIRMWARE. Most tvs in 2013 will support it without hardware dongle but a dongle will be a available for your HDMI slot. No different than using mhl cable with HDMI cable except, oh wait, this solution is wireless...

You're likely not to receive future updates. They are pushing users to the "free" Splashtop 2 app. Ipad users get lifetime anywhere pack. Android users don't. Splashtop has lost credibility and wouldn't touch their crap even with your devices.

First Tablet

Hi all, Just a quick question to all of you using tablets these days. First I just got nexus 7 for my b'day and now im on the market for .... everything. I would like to know if you guys experienced some issues with log me in on your tablet. What are best ways to use and utilise the tablet. Also another question is a cable, can i use MHL or Micro HDMI cable with this tablet or is that a no-no? If so would the same cable work with my GNex? What apps would you recommend and generally anything related to this. Any input suggestion or, in the end, discussion is welcomed.
Edit#2 can you connect USB drives or sticks to it, if so how?

MHL/HDMI is a nono yes. The only way I'm aware of it being done is through a Raspberry Pi, you may aswell forget about that now
I wouldn't use LogMeIn to be honest, take a look at SplashTop HD
Finally, you need a USB-OTG (on the go), then a normal memory stick/usb hard drive. Download an App called StickMount(Rooted) or Nexus Media Importer (Non-Rooted) and away you go.
PS - Welcome to the best little tablet !

Thanks for such a quick reply! Shame that there is no MHL capabilities. I sort of need log me in for work purpouses. I tried on the phone and the app worked flawlessly but on the baled graphic was gone and frankly speaking unusable.
USB OTG just plug it it, than my stick, run my app and off it works?
Can i connect keyboard and mouse same way?
Cheers
