Samsung Galaxy S5 supports ART - Galaxy S 5 General

Just got my S5 today and I am able to enable ART
Haven't tried it yet, but it is there :good:

meh. It's definitely a YMMV thing, but it will almost certainly be the standard runtime for the next version of android which is basically neigh at this point with I/O coming up. I think Google was wise to start including it in 4.x.x so developers are able to prepare accordingly.

I've enabled it and it all seems ok so far!
I've been using ART on my Nexus 4 for months with 0 issues

Try a software update and you will get a modified status alert and unable to update your phone. Going back to Davlik solves this fortunately.

I went in local shops today to check out new S5.
I went in first shop, it had 2 display galaxy S5. Both were version SM-G900X (Yes X)
I didnt find enable ART option in deleoper section.
Went to 2nd shop, they didnt have any display ones, only real ones for sale. It was SM-G900F.
It had ART option in developer section, did turn it on, reboot (motherr ****er 300 apps on that phone) and it worked nicely. Didnt notice any improvement between dalvik one.

I think the only way it might free up memory is the way it caches apps differently, but I could be wrong. Of course, that might help battery life to if something is already cached. So, I hope you are right.

I think different variants will have different compatibility. But it shouldn't be like this.
As far as my knowledge goes TW framework doesn't support ART.
And those who are enabling ART should go back to developer options after the phone reboots in ART mode and see if the selected runtime is still dalvik or is it changed to ART.

Yep, got it on my G900T here since day one and I'm rooted. Haven't enabled it yet though.

That's good to know but the question that remains unanswered is how does ART impact the GS5?
I won't enable that on mine until I know it's worth losing my warranty for it.

I run ART and it's smooth and flawless. It feels noticeably faster too.
It won't let me check for new firmware anylonger though, says the device has been tampered with. Can probably just switch back to Dalvik whenever an update comes around.

2) enter developer options and change the values of window animation scale, transition animation scale and animator citation scale to .5x (make sure developer options is on!)

4) Enter Nova Settings and set scroll speed and animation speed to "Nova"
5) Enjoy!
Note that this doesn't make your tablet faster but makes it feel faster (I prefer the word zippy)
Bonus: search Google Play for "seeder" - it is probably very good but I can't tell whether it is seeder that has made a difference, personally because I made a lot other changes to my tablet and I have a new router.
Be a pumpkin and hit the thanks if you're gonna stick with the changes

There are developers from google and cyanogen saying seeder is worthless unless you are on android older than ICS. Not to be "that guy" but you are a bit late to the party on these tips. They should have come up if you did a search.
On the other hand its better to have to many people trying to be helpful than not enough.

Thanks, honestly I did search under a few different keywords and I've had the nexus 7 pretty much since release and I've probably seen 60-70% of things in the Nexus 7 threads and I don't remember this precise one.

I always just turn them all completely off on all my phones and tablets. Also installed the Seeder app and I don't on know if it's a placebo effect but tab definitely feels much more responsive going from app to app and things loading a little quicker. This app seems like the V6 supercharger mod in an app.

I ran it to, and it says the entropy pool is up, but you can accomplish the same thing with a sysctl tweak. No apps, nothing to flash. Rather have a sysctl placebo effect than installing something unknown for a placebo effect, imo.

Switching runtime between Dalvik and ART

I read about the inclusion of the new ART runtime in 4.4, so I went into my Nexus 5 and enabled the setting. First reboot is supposed to take longer as the apps are prepared.

Unfortunately, my Nexus 5 did not recover from this and was stuck in a boot loop. Logcat showed a bunch of mm-camera errors.
I don't know how to switch the runtime back to dalvik. I can see the phone is loading libart.so, and if I could switch back to livdvm.so it might recover.
If anyone knows how to do this, it might be helpful to others.
I'm just going to restore the factory image to get the phone back.

I flicked the switch to ART and was amazed at the speed improvements. I have only come across one app that would crash (asphalt 8). I am leaving it on, and if developers want me to buy their games, they better expect to support ART.
Would it be wise to uninstall everything and re-install the programs with ART. Or does it do that for you?

ART does it all for you.
When you enable it will shut down your phone, then when you restart it will compile all the apps as it boots, this can take a few minutes and is battery intensive so make sure your phone has a good charge before you make the switch.

Is stock 4.2 this bad???

So, my g2 was unrooted for all of 2 days or so when I got it before rooting and at least debloating. I have a replacement coming, so I'm back too 100% ota stock. So basically, this is my first taste of an LG g2 running 4.2 .2 100% stock. Only a few app, just leaving it bare and holy cow it's bad lol. I get a system ui fc once an hour. Pages load slow as Hell..Just...so...laggy... I've had at least several apps just randomly close. No force close message, they just closed and I'm back in my home screen. maybe because I ran 4.4 for a week, i got spoiled but this is terrible lol

You've got something more going on with that device. 4.2.2 is not that bad, even out of the box with all its bloat intact. There's more you're not telling.

I have had my G2 stock the whole time and I have never seen a fc. However, my web pages do load quite slowly most of the time.
I have 2 completely stock g2s one is mine and one is my wife's and neither of us have seen any of what the op is talking about. Only "lag" I have seen is in the animations.
There's definitely more going on then the op saying his stock. What else did you change? A stock g2 does not have any of those issues.

Stock 4.2.2 was pretty smooth even with all its bloat. No fc whatsoever. Maybe something went wrong in the process of flashing back to full stock.
The only fc I've ever had was on opera mobile browsers. Stock, unrooted since day 1 and the phone is fast and smooth. Great battery life (30+ hrs.)
Maybe you jacked something up. Or have a rogue app.

Phones getting replaced because the speaker went bad. There's not more to tell. Seriously, went back to 11 A took the OTA to 12 B. only apps I installed were essential ones that I use daily. no tweaking, no nothing. This is the first time I was on 4.2 stock and I thought there's no way this is normal. Normally I would've already wiped everything started over but that would be pointless. I have the same problem that you have. I was able to fix it deactivating auto updates of the Play Store, turning off the backup my data of and then I have made a factory reset under the Backup & restore tab. It was the only way I can get to return Google Play Services to the correct version. Sorry for my bad English.

Mine was missing, too, but I figured out that it wasn't enabled by default. Go into settings on your phone, then select Security, and at the bottom of the list under the Advance heading there will be a listing for Trust Agents. Tap on it and enable Smart Lock. Once you've done that, Smart Lock will be available under the Screen security heading in the Security Settings.
also, don't you have to have pin lock or whatever enabled before the smart lock stuff shows up?

This is what worked for me! Got a new Moto X last night for my cracked screen, updated to Lollipop and could not figure out how to get Smart Lock working. Adding Smart Lock in the Trust Agents section was all that was needed.

This stumped me too. I've been playing with it for two days. I finally gave up and called Moto. After getting handed off to "Tier 2" support I was told that it is a known bug and that i'll have to wait for the maintenance release. I inquired about a time frame for that and she said she didn't have one. I hope it's soon!
Another related issue I'm having is the inability to switch back to the standard swipe screen lock. The swipe option says it has been disabled by an administrator, but I have deselected both administrators (Moto & Google) and nothing changed.
OK, I came up with this. See if it works for you. Settings>Security Under the ADVANCED header >Trust Agents: Toggle Smart Lock ON

This is the right answer in my opinion. It works. Smart Lock is activated now!
