Fingerprint sensor issues with a case - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

So if I run the phone naked, I have no issue with the fingerprint sensor. With an otterbox commuter it works maybe 10% of the time. I have it setup with my left thumb to an angle for one handed operation. Anyone else having issues with using a case and this? I realize the commuter is probably not the best to try this on.. I have a spigen tough armor coming on Thursday.

I'm using a spigen tpu case and the bottom portion of the case kept getting in the way as well. I just turned off the fingerprint unlock.

I'm glad that worked out for you. To me, however, just turning it off is not acceptable.

I'm using Otterbox defender, it works most times for me, it does get a little difficult at times.

might just need more time with it then...

No fingerprint issues with my Tough Armor case. If nothing else, you'll have a solution soon!

How are you using the fingerprint sensor? If I follow how it does on the screen where you are registering it, it works better. But I would like to swipe it with my thumb one handed if possible.

I'm using it how it shows on the screen because I've always held my phone with my left hand and use it with my right...so my right index finger is registered.

Looking for results on screen protectors with spen usage

I have read through the other screen protector thread and I feel like it's just a mess to read through because it's people either simply stating what they ordered or SSHguru from just like glass suggesting his product or talking back and forth with people about the orders. Just like glass is definitely one of the protectors I am considering as well as possibly looking at the SPIGEN SGP protectors.
I have not used a screen protector on a phone in a few years but due to the screen being so big and not being able to get insurance on the phone this time I feel a screen protector is wise. I just want to make sure it will not hinder the use of the spen. I am no artist and can barely draw a stick figure or even write with a pen for that matter, I just have horrible handwriting. So as long it still functions correctly I am happy with it.
I am thinking of adding a pole to this with the ones most recommended.

I am using Just like glass, I also have horrible handwriting and cant drew worth crap! (even my stick figures are bad!) It is a great product!! and SSHguru (AKA Scott) Is great as far as responding to emails and posts / concerns. That being said the protector I relived is a little short (Files where too big to upload!) and it sounds like he had an issue with the manufacturer. So I would wait until that gets figured out before ordering!

Ok thanks! And that was one of the reasons I am interested in his JLG, it just became hard to read through everything since it turned more into a thread about his protector and why to buy no others as well as him supporting people. His support is great from what I was reading. I just wanted to get the ball rolling on a thread that is about actually using the protectors and how they have worked out for people so far on all brands. I know zagg is something I will go no where near.

Actually just got an email from Scott "We actually got a real Note II and laser scanned it.
The new cut is shipping to you today.
Thanks for the help!
Scott"
So I cant be positive until I receive it but assuming it is the right fit I would very highly recommend it!
I went ahead and ordered one.
I got the zag invisible shield on today. It takes 24 hrs to dry. So I will let you know once it dries.

The invisishield hd is a no go for stylus users. My brother had one on his and the sketch he did with it is permanently on his screen protector now.

I'm using the Spigen Ultra Crystal and despite it not covering the screen entirely I love it. It's virtually unnoticeable other than the fingerprints that it collects, which is something you'll see with all screen protectors(I had issues even on my oleophobic that I had on my GS2). The stylus works just as well as it did before I put the protector on it and there are zero marks on it from the stylus since I've been using it(5 days)
I'm using a Spigen Ultra Oleophobic and, in retrospect, I wish I'd left my Ultra Crystal on. The Ultra Crystal was all but invisible aside from the fingerprints that wipe off cleanly, whereas fingerprints on the Ultra Oleophobic leave behind a film that makes the fact that you're using a screen protector painfully obvious. All things considered, I should have stayed with the Ultra Crystal, and it's only my desire to not give up on a $7.50 screen protector ten days after getting the phone (as I did with my Ultra Crystal) keeps the Ultra Oleo on there.
That being said, I use my S Pen regularly, and neither Spigen protector ever showed signs of wear or marking from the S Pen. I did have an Xtreme Guard screen protector on there for a few days after getting the phone, and it was badly marked up by the S Pen. My theory is that wet-apply protectors are just a bad idea with the Note 2, as gooey plastic (which is basically what they are) is prone to being scratched up and dragged around by pointy objects.
I use the same material used on cars for their clear bras. S pen works fine, and it's very tough. I use it on my iPad 3 as well. Never buying screen protectors again. Lol
Reporting back with my feedback from using the zag invisible shield.
No marks have been left on it with my s pen. It is not as smooth as writing on the screen though. I am happy.

This is completely bogus. I had two zaggs on my Note 2, one replaced by Best Buy because the S-Pen marks were so profound, the second removed because it happened to the improved Zagg... Even with the second being a Zagg HD, I was 100% let down by this product. I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.
The SGP Ultra Crystal is, by far, the best available, as far as the S-Pen goes. It's just too hard for it to even think about leaving marks. That being said, I am eagerly awaiting my new re-cut just like glass to see if it's all that it's cracked up to be. If not, I will be certain to let you know... and subsequently go back to a SGP Ultra.

Has anyone noticed any delay/lessened sensitivity issues with either the SGP or JLG screen protectors? It's awesome that the note 2 has 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity (I'm assuming it's built into the spen), but I wouldn't want a screen protector getting in the way of that.
Spigen ultra clear here works fine

I wouldn't do that...you WILL get marks on it...I can almost guarantee it. I too had the Zagg HD and after a few days use, there were s pen marks all over it. Initially it seemed like a great protector...actually, without the s pen it would be. However, if you look at your screen with it turned off you can see marks all over it. Go with xtremeguard, Just Like Glass or Spigen...any one of those will hold up better and they are all quite a bit less expensive.

I don't much care how the screen looks while off.
I don't really use the pen much either, just don't want that rubbery feel (OG Zagg) when I do.
As far as price, I don't really care as long as I get what I want. Also, working at Best Buy has its advantages

A good demonstration of how a screen protector won't affect the S Pen

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Thod_N0fnj4
Granted, it may affect the feel (ie. shiny glass vs whatever the texture of the screen protector is). But, the functionality of the S Pen in terms if it registering strokes won't be affected.
Personally, I like the slightly more grippy feel from my screen protector compared to the slippery glass. (I used the Note 2 for about a week before getting the screen protector on as it took about a week after release for the screen protector I wanted to appear in the shops).

It should, it doesn't have to touch the actual screen of the note 2 thanks to the way it works. I can't remember exactly but I think it's electromagnetic induction, and pressing the little nib on the s-pen is what actually registers a touch, so a screen protector shouldn't have much of an affect on it, if at all.

(Q) Otterbox defender case

ok, so i have a note II from t-mobile and its in an otterbox defender case, problem seems to be with the lower right side. seems as if the plastic on the case is hampering the sensitivity of the screen. i have swift key installed, but not using the swipe method, just standard key board and it seems to miss a lot and i have to hit it hard. i also get what seems like a lot of sticking issues. the center button and the right soft key seem to get activated a lot with out me touching them. has ony one had issues like these?
That's a problem with the Defender. Most will just remove the screen protector and use a different one.

dang i didnt want to have to do that as i put the phone in my pocket a lot and wanted the most protection possible. hopefully tomorrow a friend will be giving me a zag screen protector. maybe after that i will reevaluate if i remove the plastic or deal with it
I have mine on still. Maybe when I get a glass screen protector I'll take it off.
does yours give you a lot of issues?
Yes. I get tons of crap under my SP and because I have a Zerolemon my SP is bowed upward which causes more touch issues.
i havent noticed any issues yet with my defender case

Yes. I cut my Defender to fit the ZL.
yeah dont know if i could do that. did you use a template?
It really is simple I never even used a dremel before and I just cut it freehand took two seconds.

Anyone tried 3m paint defender as a sort of liquid screen protector?

It's meant to protect your car from rocks at 60mph. I have it on good authority that it would protect your phone from the sand in your pocket.
You'd have to be careful, but in general it peels off pretty well when you want it to and not before. It would be much better than a standard screen protector if it worked.

Perhaps, but it may interfere with the screen's ability to register touches from either finger or s-pen.
Maybe try it on an older phone or touch-screen device and see if it still functions well enough to be suitable option.
If it doesn't react with the Note 2's screen coating (oleophobic layer) or remove that layer (when removing the 3M paint defender) then it might be a viable option.
I may try it on my truck to see how it feels there.
I'd coat a cheap screen protector first as a test.

MYRIANN Ultra Slim Transparent Case For M8

I was looking for a good transparent case for my M8. First I ordered the Atmosphere case from Poetic and it was very HARD material and I was not comfortable using it. While looking for alternatives, i founds this.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/271510383352?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&var=570343293349&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I am very satisfied with this. It is only 7$. Also comes in variety of colors. I went for the conservative Black. All cutouts are quite precise. Only bad thing I found was that it did not have a cutout for the IR blaster. Since I did not use this functionality, it was fine with me. The back is crystal clear and shows off the beauty of the phone. It is a minimal case and wont protect the phone much from drops I believe (am yet to drop it, nope I never do!!). Installing this without any dust in the case is a bit painstaking, but once installed, it does not let further dust in. I have been using this for 5 days now and am impressed. If anyone wants any more details/pics please let me know.

For this price, will try out, want to see how it compares to the Kaycase.

It is smooth but has a slight sticky grip to it. I am not sure how I can convey it through words. Its definitely better that Atmosphere case from poetic and also better than using it naked (I nearly dropped it twice using it naked and with atmosphere case).
Looks like thunder and lightning. Bring a umbrella.

From nearly 2 weeks of usage, I can say that it DOES get a few scratches. Not bead enough for me to abandon ship yet. But from the way it is going, I ,may have to get rid of this after a month or 2.

Havent received it yet .
I've had this case for a couple months. A lot of versions of this case all over eBay/Amazon. I LOVE it. Provides just the right amount of protection, while still allowing me to show off the beauty of the phone. I just took a Xacto/Utility knife and cut out the little piece covering the power button so that I could use the IR blaster. Easy. Took 20 seconds tops and looks no different. You cant even tell it was there. Its a little harder to depress the power button without the raised section on the case, but I use double tap to wake and sleep so that isnt much of an issue. I rarely have to use the power button anyway. I definitely recommend this case. Got it for about $6 shipped on eBay.
I got my Green version friday and used it over the weekend.
I really nice the feel and fit and really like the colour combination.
BUT there is a MAJOR downside to it: it has TERRIBLE flash bleed!
I got my black case and I absolutely love it! I love the rubber feel on the side and the transparent back; I feel as if its the only case I have seen that still shows the beauty of the phone off. I also got a tempered glass screen protector from the same buyer and I am very happy .
I don't understand why these case company keep interfering with the flash, if they just made the camera/flash cutout bigger then there would be no problem.

Maybe they don't test camera flash during their case design phase.

I've had and used this case for a couple of days now and I only have one thing to complain about:
The blasted volume buttons are so hard to depress!!!
I have a very similar case and my only complaint is that the clear back scratches easily and quickly, as opposed to - say - the Spiggen clear one that lasted much longer before inevitably scratching.
