LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

Since only AT&T variants of GS5 and M8 are the first devices capable of aggregating two LTE bands into a "fatter download pipe", has anyone actually seen faster download speeds? Chicago seems to be the first market with confirmed live Carrier Aggregation, so AT&T users should be able to see download peak rates in excess of 100Mbps when Band 17 and Band 2 are aggregated (10Mhz + 5Mhz). Other usual suspects should be dense urban markets like NYC, LA, SF, Detroit, Dallas, etc... Keep an eye open!
You can verify this by accessing ServiceMode:
1. dial *#197328640# and tap on "AS INFORMATION".
2. Check the first line which tells you if CA is enabled but not configured, Disabled, etc.
3. Post a Screenshot of that page.
And of course check the speedtest.net app, and monitor speeds

I believe this menu has been disabled on my SM-G900A. I was just in it the other day (looking to see if any of the old carrier unlocks worked). It's no longer accessible.

No worries! Do you mind posting the screenshot of AS INFORMATION page once CA information is displayed at the top?

Thanks! That's exactly what I see in NYC market. Means the device has CA enabled, but the network hasn't been configured for Carrier Aggregation yet. Users in Chicago should be able to see CA Enabled, and experience faster download rates.
I've had high hopes for Dallas since that's AT&T's home turf.

You'd think so. They're usually near the top of the list (I've been with ALL carriers), so I'd expect it to happen pretty soon.

It'll take awhile before many of the Lte networks are updated to use this feature I assume. Mines enabled but in basic information it shows I'm only connected to the 10k 17 band while downloading from LTE.

Hi guys do we really need 4G or Lte these days ?
Those mobiles supports JUST one Radio frequency .. which is NOT good ..
So you will travel somewhere else 4g /lte will stop working cos of diff. frequency ..
It is about of time when mobiles will support all 4g /lte frequencies same as 3G network ..
I think DC-HSDPA is LEADER now days with brilliant speed ..
4G in UK has EE company which is completely UNACCEPTABLE ! Ridiculous prices overcharging .. NO not ready yet ..

Thnx

Still better than my home WiFi.

I feel like I'm not getting DC-HSDPA speeds with t-mobile in NYC. No LTE yet either
Still love this phone though!
3UK, DC-HSDPA speeds are fluctuating badly, in the same spot, speeds range from 0.5/0.3 to 14/4, throughout the day, it's terrible! Pings always seem to be around 60-90 though so that's alright.
How do to check the connection status of the N4? All I see is an H in the signal bar...
Anyone found any coverage on o2

The N4 radio is not capable of showing when it is using DC-HSDPA, if you go into about phone > status, it'll tell you when using HSPA+ (HSPA+:15) but that's as high as it goes.

The radio knows perfectly well what network type it is on/band/frequency. The problem is that Android has no standard way of displaying anything other than network type. Manufacturers implement their own field test apps, which can communicate directly to the radio and get this information.
Back to the point, no phone with proper Android does. Android does not have a definition for DC-HSPA+ as a network type. This was hacked into CM, which will bite them later on like it did Samsung for LTE (certain phones will say eHRPD instead of LTE since they have conflicting constant 14 in TelephonyManager). It's fragmentation at it's finest.
That's not the point, it can utilise DC-HSDPA, but it doesn't show it in TelephonyManager, even with CM's commit, they said it only works on certain phones because the radio would not show it to the software on most phones.

tried it but only HSPA:8 still. probably my carrier sucks 2mb up on full bars
How strange, not exactly sure how things work in America but I think you have to sign up to a high speed, or 4G plan for HSPA+, but like I said, I'm not entirely sure. There could also be an alternate APN for high speed.
i dont see the point of having lte when you can have hspa+. i get 25/3 speeds in hungary, which is more than enough.

Flash radios? No T-Mobile LTE

I have yet to get T-Mobile's lte on my unlocked HTC First. Does anyone know why? ( I have had 2 AT&T unlocked handsets running on lte in my area previously.)
Are there any different radios around I can flash? I am aware that the First and One Mini have nearly the same hardware. Could I try flashing a One Mini radio?
Thanks for the help.

I've also got my first with T-Mobile but all I can get is hspa+ yes we've got the necessary radios for LTE but the phone isn't programmed in a way that it can use them. You'll need a T-Mobile specific RUU for that. But our first is a at&t only handset so none is existent. Will something from the mini work? Maybe. But it's likely that you would end up with a brick. And I don't believe that a T-Mobile specific one exists. Go ahead an try it if you want tho and mess around with stuff but... Beware

Don't worry about it too much. Hspa+ speeds are great! I get an average of 8mbs down! But I'm in a completely refarmed area. Make sure to check on your device info whether you're getting hspa+ or umts as you might need a different APN. (Umts is 3g but shows up as 4g)
It's HSPA+. However, I live on the edge of the reframed area. In my city I get anywhere from .5 down, up to as high as 3MBs. On lte it was around 10-20 down.

a little difference
i went from 10 mb up and 1 down to

How is it Sprint can be using so many bands together to get more speed and yet it's still slower than Tmo's single band? Oh right, it's Sprint...
I miss the old Sprint. I was their biggest fanboy for a good long while there before their 3g became unusable and their only 4g was wimax which didn't make it past trees or a window at anything more than a single bar. I understand the high frequency attenuation, but the lack of 3g backhaul is ridiculous and so is their piecemeal 4g network. I feel sorry for anyone still using them during this "transition". If this was a store under construction, they'd be better off closing for until they're complete, because the customer experience is so bad... I hope they make good use of their prime Nextel 800mhz spectrum, they could make a great network with it, it's totally possible. But I'll believe it when I see it.

It has been a painful journey these last 3 years but I see the light lol and we haven't been officially announced so I see nothing but good things at least for me from Sprint by the end of the summer it should be full throttle. yep, I can attest to that. Orlando was launched about a month ago, and voice and data coverage couldn't be better. Before I could barely get WiMax, but I get good LTE speeds at my residence and most of my commute through the city. CDMA 800 has already started rolling out in my area, as well as Spark
I just got the official text message from Sprint a few days ago announcing the new spark network here in Minneapolis. Now the wait for Google to update and enable the radios needed to receive the new LTE bands.
Sprint network has improved quite a bit in the last 6 months. I an get LTE pretty much everywhere in the metro and suburbs now. I will admit i was almost ready to pay the ETF and jump ship 6 months ago...

Cause its not currently using all three at once... Enabling all three bands is great but until we get a radio that can negotiate and use all 3 at once your speeds won't be that awesome. I get band 26 here in Houston sometimes and its certainly better than b25 cause of congestion and I have gotten band 41 here too where I got speeds of 70+Mbps (much faster than tmo) but the problem is I until the update we only get one band at once hence the odd speed results.
I'll edit later once I find my spark Houston speed thread I started months ago.
Cheers
When sprint updates so our n5s can use the spark network would it just be in a prl/profile update or an OTA type thing? Will I be on board if I'm running a custom ROM, or will I have to go back to stock for it?

Spark doesn't allow you to receive all 3 bands at once. The technology will automatically switch between the 3 bands, selecting the fastest band and strongest signal available for where you are.

good info thanks
even if you use the .15 modem and are lucky enough to find a 41b tower like i did until we get the updated modem and corresponding software the handoffs between the two will be awful like they are now, and even if you change band priority b25 always seems to take over eventually regardless of the other bands strength.

Expect a new radio.. This will be the brains behind the band switching but I wouldn't be surprised if there are also elements within the rom that will help with spark too.
So yes at least flash the new radio with your custom ROM and see if there is any changes if not wait till your custom ROM of choice updates to 4.4.3 which won't take long lol
A prl and profile can only really enable the bands but a new radio needs to be in place to help with the handoffs

It does. Some people have reported band 41. The towers love to put out 26 (probably because it's lower frequency) and man is it strong! I haven't seen band 41 yet but would love to see a Speedtest on it. Some have reported on s4gru and I think HoFo.
I've gotten plenty of Band41 LTE on my Nexus 5 on the .15 radio. Here is my best speedtest so far:

Anyone have 2x Carrier Aggregation working on LTE? (Qualcomm)

I'm not sure if there any non-Qualcomm variants of this phone so if there isn't please let me know. I'm curious if anyone has carrier aggregation working on their devices? I have the unlocked US XT1806 variant and noticed I wasn't seeing the speeds on LTE I was supposed to be seeing. I checked the FCC certification documents and verified my FCC ID matched the one listed and I see it was tested and certified with many different 2xCA combos on the LTE side. Confusion indeed! Once I unlocked and rooted the device I was able to load up the awesome Network Signal Guru app and sure enough there was no carrier aggregation going on, usually a speed test in the background will kick the radio into 2xCA mode if the tower supports it. I saw this same exact behavior with the Moto E4 Plus but I ended up returning that phone for various reasons.
However! After a bit of digging around with some QPST NV items on the chipset I was able to enable 2xCA! And yes, it was certified by the FCC so no worries there! Not sure why they disabled it but I'm trying to gauge if others are seeing the same disabled CA on other variants. I will end up doing a guide on how to enable it if there is enough need.
"But wait!? What's 2xCA?" It's where your phone combines more "lanes" of the LTE highway to give you faster speeds and/or better throughput especially in congested areas. It's a good thing to have when there is no WiFi around.
Motorola even advertises this phone as a Cat 7 LTE modem which is strange that it is a Cat 6 modem shown in the FCC docs. Without CA, it's kinda hard to get 300 megabit down that Cat6 has.
How to enable this?

What variant do you have and is it disabled for you too?
I have an xt1806 and I am not sure if it is disabled. Is it in the build.prop?
I haven't rooted yet... Is there a service menu to check?
What carrier is this for and how can we check and enable CA if available?

Actually any carrier than supports CA and has it deployed in your area. You'll need root and to install Network Signal Guru to check. If we get a few checks of things out there and we find more with it disabled then I'll do the guide otherwise it would be kinda pointless.

I'm on Verizon rooted and I have installed the app, where do I check for CA? Appreciate your help with this.

Run a speed test in the background on LTE and flip over to NSG. Scroll one screen over and see if it has 1 or 2 carriers listed. Feel free to screenshot.

Looks like one carrier?
Yep, it should be showing band 13 in the CA mix or possibly band 2 if deployed in your market. Which model is this?

i was on band 2 this morning. im in palo alto CA on T-Mobile if that helps.
I also got an xt1806 recently, unlocked on Verizon. I'm in a pretty rural area and speeds are pretty spotty due to obstacles between me and the tower.
Though it does stay in LTE most of the time, on band 13. I'm using LTE Discovery app off of the app store.

I use the SignalCheck Pro app as like the notification and notes on sites. Do you ever see other bands?
Another great app is CellMapper. Maps out your area and estimates tower locations, shows the bands etc. Crowdsourced app, pretty awesome app and website.

As expected, using cell mapper, there's no data in this town, severe lack of technology here... I'll use it for awhile to generate some data.
Band 13 is all I ever see. 700MHz~. It apparently sees other LTE bands, but they're not identified.

That's still band 13. 5230 is the standard Verizon EARFCN for band 13.

I haven't done the guide yet, as I've only seen one other person confirm it. Not sure how many other variants there out there or even if they could check if some of those variants are bootloader locked though.

Converting SM-N960D/Dual Sim Exynos to Full T mobile US

Hello Im pretty new with samsung devices. I like my device to be rooted so i bought the SM-N960D/Dual Sim Exynos (BRI,BRI,BRI,BRI)
I Noticed that my wides T mobile US snapdragon Note 9 signal is fantastic and also she gets LTE but with mine I don't get LTE and my signal is bad..
So it looks like the N960D is missing a bunch of bands that T-Mobile uses for LTE. It has bands 2 and 4 for sure, but it may or may not have band 12 (conflicting google info), and doesn't have band 66 or 71. This is the cause of your signal woes, and can't be fixed. It either has the bands, or it doesn't.

Based on most of the stuff I see online, the N960F / D does indeed have band 66 and 71.
I'm going by the info I found here:
https://www.techwalls.com/samsung-galaxy-note-9-sm-n960-model-number-differences/
http://phonedb.net/index.php?m=devi...e_9_td-lte_jp_sc-01l__sgh-n058__samsung_crown (which lists it as a snapdragon, so **** this site)
I also tried looking it up at the Samsung.cn and Samsung.jp sites, but not knowing where the phone originated from, I can't get an accurate idea of what it has or doesn't have.

So this is the info I was able to find on the SM-n960F/DS:
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SM-N960F-6-4-inches-Factory-Unlocked/dp/B07GNHQ2ZN
https://www.samsung.com/ae/smartphones/galaxy-note9/specs/
https://www.wondamobile.com/samsung...-unlocked.html#product_tabs_additional_tabbed
So 2, 4 and 12, MAYBE 66, no 71? Yeah, 66 is huge for T-Mobile now. 71 is going to be a big deal towards the end of this year.

Since you say you like to be rooted, I'm guessing you've been rooted in the past? Do you miss anything major while rooted? What are the alternatives to secure folder and samsung features? How about banking apps and work e-mail, considering they use device management. Have you faced an issues with that?
I think you quoted the wrong person. Personally, since AdHell/SABS came out, I've lost all desire to root. Ad blocking and stock Android was my only motivation, but right now I'm digging the Samsung Experience UI.

I'm not sure if this is the same as samsung but i use to chance the name=”TetheringGuard_rule”>3</item></app> and set the rule to 0 On my HTC devices and my tethering was fast as hell.

That's inaccurate.
Frequency check is usually accurate, but, they got it wrong,or,just haven't got around to entering the correct information in this instance.
Check the Samsung sites in the countries that are known to sell/use the Exynos models & you'll get an accurate listing of 2G/3G/4G LTE Bands on-board.
Another site that's usually accurate is PhoneDb:
