Gear 2 neo functionality review (Note 3 att) - Samsung Gear 2 Neo

A quick run down of what works and what doesn't.
1. Can send and receive calls via the watch. (then I changed my ringtone to "Knightrider")
2. Can send, receive, and reply to SMS via watch, send by using premade templates or Svoice typing (although not easy to switch between the two on the fly)
3. Can receive most notifications from APPS when selected
-cannot receive TASK notifications from calendar for some odd reason, so if i set up a task like "remind me in 5 minutes to brush my teeth" i get no reminder on the watch, but i do on the phone. This really makes me mad.
4. Can create appointments in calendar, but cannot set an appointment reminder. Note 3 has no default reminder setting, so if i use S voice on the watch to set a calender appointment, i will not get a reminder about it. This really makes me mad.
5. Cannot use Svoice to launch navigator from watch, but can from phone. This really makes me mad.
6. Can set an alarm using Svoice from watch, but cannot name the alarm. This makes me mad seeing as options 3 and 4 arent working either!!
-conclusion, no way for me to talk to watch and be reminded by watch and phone
7. went from 100% battery to 40% battery in 21 hours with heavy use. (3 phone calls, constant fiddling, media remote, tv remote, Sleep app, lots of testing)
8. Can control playback of currently selected playlist on phone via Media remote, with forward and backward skipping. Cannot select music on phone in any manner. This makes me mad too!
9. Watch on works great for controlling basic TV functions. There is no guides of any sort on watch for programs.
That should answer some of the questions that i had initially before my purchase but could not find. If anyone has any questions about functions ask and i will provide what i can.

10. When two notifications come in at the same time there is no way to view both without going to notifications app.
11. Cannot reply to email notifications
12. there is no Auto brightness setting, you must manage this manually
13. Svoice will not "Read the news" due to this function is not available
14. Dismissing a notification on the watch also dismisses the notification on the phone
15. deleting a notification on the watch does not delete it from the phone
16.You cannot set a "Location" reminder from Svoice on the watch, only a standard task reminder.
17. The wrist gesture is not very strict. My screen goes on unintentionally all the time. The minimum screen timeout is 10 seconds.

4. FIX - To make calendar reminders default to a value, you need to remove "My Calendar" and "Samsung Calendar" from the calendar app, instead only use Google calendar, when you use svoice to make an event, the google calendar will automatically add your predefined reminder.

This was a great run down! :good::good:
--especially since I was waiting to get my Neo, which finally arrived yesterday.
Question --where is the sleep app?
I hunted high and low and can't find it. (Either I am going blind or I need to do something to get it! I thought I saw somewhere in these XDA threads where someone had to download an update to enable or get sleep app, but I have the latest gear manager (updated yesterday when I setup the Neo).
My NEO software version is ANCD, (that is the only thing I am thinking could be the issue!)
Thank's in advance for any assistance
EDIT: SLEEP.APK OK I had to manually update the Neo's rom via Kies3 (after DL/Installing Kies3, plugged in the Neo and Kies discovered a software update. I went from Neo Rom NCD to ND8.) After the update, I had the Sleep app in apps!

Issues? Add them to this list...

Okay, so since I'm having a few kind of big issues, I thought I'd start a list. If anyone has any solutions, please speak up! Yes, I'm rooted, but that's it. I'm running the stock ROM, and these issues existed before I rooted.
1) Silence mode doesn't work. I can get it to go to vibrate mode only by using the hardware keys; setting it in Settings or through a toggle doesn't work, despite the icons showing in the status bar. When on Silent, the phone still vibrates (and sometimes makes sounds still). This is a pain at night, however, since I've gotten Vibrate to work consistently using the volume keys, I put "Do Not Disturb Me" on my phone for night, and that properly silences the phone. The bonus there is I can schedule DND times.
2) I can't save incoming pictures from MMS. In Messaging, I'm not even given the option to, but I use Chat Heads anyway through FB Messenger. When I open an image there, I'm given the option to save it, but I get an error every time that it can't be saved. It's kind of frustrating.
3) Google Photos Sync doesn't work. It's checked in my sync settings, but unlike every other Android device I've owned, online albums don't show in Gallery.
Okay, the picture saving issue is related to Facebook Messenger. I'm seeing the same issue on my LG Optimius G. However, it doesn't look like you can save pictures using the stock Messaging app anyway, so I installed Go SMS Pro to open MMS messages if I need to save photos. I had to turn off it handling SMS and suppressing other apps' notifications, but now I have a workable solution to that until Facebook updates Messenger.
For the record, I've heard from an app developer that there is a firmware issue with many HTC devices that prevents them from switching volume states correctly when the device is playing audio streams like music or podcasts. In my case, this prevents Locale from silencing my phone when I get to work because I'm always listening to podcasts in the morning when I arrive, so the state transition fails, and I have to manually change it after stopping my podcast.

Hmm, I could see that, but it fails even if I'm not doing anything with the phone.
After the OTA, I'm still having the silence bug when using a toggle or WidgetLocker, but I can successfully get it to truly silence using the volume keys. I'll take that, especially since I don't think that's a bug everyone's experiencing anyway. Still not getting online albums in Gallery.
-Can't share files via bluetooth, theoption simply isn't available in the share menu
-All received messages play as slideshows, and not in full screen when clicked on

Google Calendar, Nine Email, SMS and WhatsApp notifications

I'm trying to decide between Urbane 2nd Edition and the Gear S3. I've considered the advantages of each watch and what I'll actually use the watch for. Considering everything the Urbane 2nd Ed seems to fit the bill more but there are still a few of things I'd like to check that the Urbane (with Android Wear 2.0) can do before pulling the pin.
Google Calendar:
- when Gmail/Google calendar notifications show up on the watch do they make the watch vibrate and/or turn the screen on?
- can you edit/amend details for a Calendar notifications?
- can you view the calendar and show specific days?
- can you scroll backwards (and forwards) in the Calendar app?
Nine Email (not GMail or Outlook):
- do Nine Email notifications show up on the watch?
WhatsApp & SMS
- do WhatsApp and SMS notification show up the watch?
- do they make the watch vibrate and/or turn the screen on?
- can you reply to them directly from the watch?
Any help much appreciated. :good:
I use NINE email.. i currently do not use the notifications on my phone so i do not see them on the phone.. i may enable them to see if they do work on the watch.. i'll report back.
I turned on the notifications for my Gmail and Work email via NINE. I did get notifications on my watch.. It didn't allow me to see the message.. but did have options to reply, mark read, delete.. etc.. Hope this helps!

Google Home - Announce Incoming Notifications

**Updated 5/27/2017**
After installing this profile Google Home will announce your selected incoming notifications by app name and subject line.
Video Demo
Part 1.
1. Download and install Tasker, AutoNotifications BETA, and AutoCast BETA (you will need the Full Paid versions). Also download Notifications.prf.xml
2. Once you have received the AutoNotifications BETA update via the Play Store open the app, grant all permissions, press "Enable Notification Intercept" and grant notification access. Leave all other default settings and exit AutoNotifications.
3. Once you have received the AutoCast BETA update from the play store open the app, grant all permissions, select "Manage Cast Devices," then press + to add your Google Home then exit the app.
Part 2.
1. Place the Notifications.prf.xml file in your device’s Tasker/profiles folder (if these folders do not exist then create them).
2. Open Tasker and long-press “Profiles,” then select “Import” and import the xml file from Part 1.
3. Back-out of Tasker to save the profile. Done!
You can customize your list of apps to announce by pressing the "Notifications" profile in Tasker to expand the profile, then press "AutoNotification Intercept Event...", then the pencil to configure. Press "Apps" to select your apps. Google Home will now announce incoming notifications including the name of the app and subject line (you can disable by placing your phone on silent). Enjoy!
Tip: include the Google App in your selected apps to hear your Google reminders on GH.
**Important**
- GH must be connected to the same wifi network as your phone in order to announce the notification.
- Turn off battery optimization for Tasker, AutoNotifications, AutoCast or your device may disable these apps when idle.

Instead of Silent to prevent any notification announcements, can I change it to Do Not Disturb instead? Would changing %SILENT ~ off to %DO NOT DISTURB ~ off work?

Yes, it does work, but it's not that straight forward. I've attempted many trial and errors and finally discovered one that worked for us (since we have the same phone).

I also removed the reading of the message from the notification and unread text reminder, keeping just a notification of a text received from sender. I didn't feel too comfortable having my text auto-read out loud.
Multiple Google Home's
Thanks for this, it works a treat when casting to one google home.
However i tried to get it to cast to my speaker group which just causes the app to crash. Do you know of any work arounds or is it just not capable of doing this yet ?
Unfortunately the app can currently only cast to one device at a time.
Cool things here! A Question Please, - When I import the tasker.xml, are then all my other tasker-tasks still there?
Thanks!

I know Your Question is a time ago, but I wanted to let You know, that it is Possible to cast to more than one Google-Home! - You must only go in the Tasker-Profile, tab on the profile to expand it, tab on the right side in the expanded profile (tasks of the profile), and setup the last task a second time the same but now choose a further Google-Home-Device, done! So the Google-Home's speaking out the information one after another, how it set in the Tasker-Profile! It's really Great!

I have seen Your awesome Profiles, and in the moment I'm addicted to it! I wanted to let You know, because I have seen that in the past Someone have asked about to cast to more than one Google-Home, and You answered that yet is not possible! - Probably You know this anyway, but in case not, I have found a Workaround in the way that I have set up the last task in the profile (Autocast) a second time, and choosed a second Google-Home, and now the Google-Home's speaking out the informations one after another, in the sequence it is setup in the Tasker-Profile! So it is possible to setup many Google-Home's as Wish with this Wonderful Profiles!
Thanks for Your Awesome Work and Time!:good:

Whatsapp - read title of message

Hello Guys,
I've always used a simple automation to read from whom my whatsapp messages are while I was with my headphones and walking on the streets or the subway. It's useful for me to know if I might have to stop to read any of those or if I could just leave for later.
The events are:
Notification - Whatsapp
Headset plugged - Any
The action is:
Say %NTITLE
But recently, due to a whatsapp or Android 6 upgrade, this not always read the last notification title, but the first unread notification I got in whatsapp. For example, if I get a message from person A and then 3 messagens from person B, it would say 4 times message from person A.
I've tried the %evtprm2 variable as well. Does any one know of a way to fix this issue?
Thanks!
Hi,
Maybe you can look into AutoNotification: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joaomgcd.autonotification
It gives you a lot more info on notifications, but I'm not sure if it can solve your problem. Make sure you open AutoNotification, and click 'Enable Notification Intercept'. Then create a new Event profile in Tasker: Plugin --> AutoNotification --> Intercept.
Hope this helps!
I'm using a third party app to read notifications by voice. There are many apps available on play store for this purpose.

Question Google Tasks: no sound for notifications

I am moving from Google Reminders to Google Tasks (given that as on 6 March the former will disappear), but I am not getting sound for the Tasks notifications. Tried deleting cache, data, uninstalling/reinstalling, to no avail.
Anyone here with my same problem? This seems to be random.
Oh gosh, I am trying again and for the last time: is there anyone who can test this?
thx
g.
I don't think many people in this community use Google Tasks. Hence why no one has said anything.
Have you tried adjusting notification settings for the app? Also check to see if the app is on the autostart list. Some of my apps stopped giving reliable notifications when I took them off the list.

I have tried everything and considering that as of 06 MArch Google is goinf to automatically migrate REMINDERS to TASKS, thsi is annoying.
TASKS is set to run at startup, and its notifications are enabled with sound and battery optimization is off.
Problem is that I do receive a notification but without sound, actually things are ever worst:
1. Install CALENDAR and TASKS and enable TASK notifications in both CALENDAR and TASKS
2. create three TASKS (ACTIVITIES) one after the other 2 minutes apart: the first notification arrives from TASKS with sound, the others without sound
3. uninstall and reinstall TASKS and enable the notifications of the TASKS (ACTIVITIES) both in CALENDAR and in TASKS
4. create only one TASK (ACTIVITY) in 2 minutes: notification arrives from TASKS with sound
5. change the TASK (ACTIVITY) by moving the time forward two minutes: the notification arrives from TASKS but without sound
If I have only CALENDAR installed, the notifications of the TASK (ACTIVITIES) arrive instead from CALENDAR and always with the sound.
Could you pls run these tst for me, with both CALENDAR and TASKS isntalled and then only with CALENDAR installed?
