VS980 Official 24A KDZ - Verizon LG G2

Using this method you can manually update your phone and it downloads the 24A KDZ to your PC. The KDZ stacks up to 2gb. I haven't completed the install yet (using hotspot to download KDZ on laptop), but I would assume this does a complete factory reset. Will update when I have completed it.

I know you want to do this, but I'd think about it. It's possible you'll lock your device down. I'd wait til the devs get this first. And look for news from them that it's safe and you can downgrade if needed. My 2 cents.

While there is a good chance it will still work. It might not. But if it didn't root would be obtained soon most likely. The bigger worry is the boot loader. No custom recovery potentially. If last minute stuff was added etc... Might be fine. But I wouldn't take a chance on locking my device til I was sure. S4 been locked since July. Many a tear over there for taking ota.

Good to know. I went ahead and restored to 10B via TOT method (I had the intial hacked 24B without the kernel and what not). Performed the update via KDZ per Droid Life article and lost root. Re-rooted via IORoot25 and all is up and running. I'm content with Google Experience Launcher and Hotspot hack. Might try and flash TWRP via the previous 24A methods.

There's an app called autorec that takes care of the recovery on official kit Kat. I manually installed OTA and have twrp. I'm also running a stock kit Kat kernel with linaro.

Step 1: Download and install LG Unified Driver for Windoze PC
Step 2: Download the 2GB VS98024A file on your PC and move the file into LG PC Suite directory
Step 3: Put your phone in "Download mode" (see Youtube video link above)
Step 4: Download and install LG PC suite and follow its directions (see XDA link above to learn how to use LG PC Suite)
Step 5: Profit
Oh, and it helps to RTFM :silly:

The file has been approved by Verizon. Just saw it on my phone but it's not 2gb, more like 690mb.

Software Update file

Hey
Where is the software update actually stored on the device? (The 8/4/2011 for the LG Revolution).
Once updated, can yo install CWM? Can it be rooted?
Just hang out, it will not install through cwm. Thecubed is going to be working on it.

I actually wanted to tinker with the Software Update file and see whats inside. I wanted to know where Android downloads it to on the filesystem.
I'm sure TheCubed will figure it out with CWM

It possibly could install by changing it to a zip file but who knows what it would mess up. With recovery items in there it may mess up cwm, that is a little above me without doing more research into it.

He's right. Installing the update without removing some stuff from it first (like it's new boot.img and the "installrecovery.sh" script) would possibly softbrick your device.
Decrap2 will take a while to do since it's gonna take a lot of work to apply this update to my ROM (gotta flash back to stock and apply the OTA, then deodex and then remove bing all over again...)

I have two revolution devices.
One was stock (as if I bought it from a VZW store), the other one was with CWM.
The CWM with Decrap on it. (giving lots of issues with the launcher such as missing icons, etc)
Stock is on the latest LG update.
CWM is on the OEM release

You could manually install it from SD card, but you'd have to be stock. I think I'll give it a shot and give up Cataclysm for a few days to check out the new camera fixes.

You don't have to have stock recovery. I've got TWRP and it flashed just fine. Put the zip on your SD. Boot into TWRP/CWM, flash as you would any other zip.
BUT, you WILL lose root.

Update to KK OTA - Problem

I could sure use some help in this one. Not exactly sure what to do. My phone was running Android 4.2.2 rooted with TWRP (2.6.3.3). I saw that the OTA update for Android 4.4.2 was available so I went ahead and downloaded it. Once I tried to install it it rebooted into recovery. I tried rebooting the system, but it takes me back to recovery. It won't do anything else. I tried getting into download mode, but it won't do it either. Someone mentioned that it may be wiped, but the memory on the phone still shows all the files in there. Not sure what went wrong. If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears. Thanks.
Just flash back to an old nandroid for now. You might have to be unrooted or use voodoo root keeper while you update. Idk tho I am just reading up on it now. Were you just rooted on a stock ROM? Or using xposed?

So I've been bouncing back and forth between 4.2 and 4.4 playing around with stuff. Last night I downloaded kk update as I've done several times. Except this time it wouldn't update and a messagep popped up saying I'm suspected of rooting. So be warned, at&t has probably changed the update package.

twrp lg g2 verizon

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if someone can link me to the most updated guide for installing twrp on my LG G2. I just got my phone back from RMA (Dead lines on the screen) and it came preloaded with Kitkat. It seems most of the guides there are for jelly bean. I tried Flashify, but apparently I read that won't work for verizon G2.
Thanks in advance

What I also recommend is once you flash the twrp go to the mahdi thread, and download the moddified version of twrp made my @dr87. this will help with heat. It can be flashed using twrp.

That's what I'm asking, there's more to installing a recovery on 4.4.2 on the G2 besides just flashing recovery.
Autorec does steps 5-8 listed in this thread at a push of a button.

Does Freegee do the same? I see people complaining it doesn't work with KK on the G2 on it's play store comments.
