Bloody hell it worked, cheers OP!

It looks at the serial number, bought one of eBay it seems it is also an import. From the articles I had read it referred at location and not hardware specific. Not bad deal either way.

This is 'per' chromecast deal I believe, as I;ve tried with my household users and it redeems the same code.

i picked one up today from PC World, but it won't redeem, very odd

8 (number) and B (letter) look very similar on the serial number, probably because someone felt nostalgic and used a 1980's-resolution printer to make it.
Can't remember offhand whether the Chromecast app reports the serial number. It's also etched on the Chromecast unit itself with higher resolution, but lower contrast. Google must think we're all eagle-eyed.

The actual method from the android app is as follows:
Open the chromecast app
Wait for the list of devices to populate.
Select the relevant device.
Wait for the "Connecting to XXXX" dialogue to finish.
When all the device info etc pops up, press the menu overflow button.
Select "Check for offers" and follow the instructions. (You must agree to send your serial number).
It should then allow you to open the play store and redeem the voucher immediately.
From a PC/laptop, you need to try http://www.chromecast.com/offers and follow the instructions.
In both cases you must be connected to the same Wifi network as the relevant chromecast and on a PC/laptop, you need to be using the Chrome browser and have the Google Cast extension installed.

It will say this if you are rooted. Yes.
But it does NOT affect functionality.
Wallet will work just fine.
That rooted message is just a Google disclaimer.
I'm rooted and running CM10 and I used it today no problem.
It says its an unsupported device because you are rooted and they won't be held accountable if some app empties your wallet. It still works great though. Google paid for my lunch yet again!

Yes..
do you have a credit card with the little 'wifi' symbol on it (not sure what it's called).. this means your actual credit card has a NFC chip in it.
i have a Chase card, which has this.
every time i lay my Galaxy Nexus on top of my wallet, the NFC Reader app (market) i have installed, picks it up right away.
Works on mine. Took a long time to finish setting up.

Pasting my own post from another forum:

I have rooted and unlocked my Nexus 7, and yes, when setting google wallet after all that, I did get my $10 prepaid credit, and then I updated to the latest Google wallet version that allows you to register any type of credit card (visa, amex, etc). Which I did.
I went to the store just with the intention to pay with my tabblet, and it worked!!! And yes, I also got the "unsupported warning" for being rooted, but that does not stop the app from working perfectly. The selected card for that transaction was the credit card I registered, and I didn't have an internet connection for the transaction to be completed succesfully (very cool).
I haven't done a transaction with the prepaid $10 credit yet, but it should be no problem since I think it's even less complex than what I did above.

Cheers.

Well, can anyone explain why, on my Nexus 7 and HTC EVO LTE, both our which are rooted, Wallet used to at least open, but after this update I just get an error: sorry, wallet does not yet run on this device and on your mobile network"?

Los Angeles. It ran before this update, so it's hard to imagine my location has anything to do with it.
I did find a few posts on other sites, like Android forums and AT&T's, for the same issue. Since nobody has complete info, we're all coming to different conclusions.
On AT&T's forum, they think it won't run because Wallet only has an agreement with Sprint. Obviously, my nexus 7 dispels that theory.
People on Verizon are speculating the same thing.
I've tried uninstalling both the update, and the entire app.
I've tried temporarily turning off root.
Still no workie.

@Savalangh - wondering exactly the same thing, dont think I've even uploaded a 1000 songs yet, but would be a major pain having to sit and re-upload from scratch if we had to. Hopefully we just can continue using as is. :fingers-crossed:
I set up Google Music using a Proxy and have been using it for months.
It recently got released OFFICIALLY in the UK and haven't had any problems i.e. I haven't had to re-upload my music or anything else. I believe it's tied to your google account so regardless of where you're using it, it shouldn't make a difference once you're signed up!

Sorry for it not being more helpful, I went on play.Google.com , logged in on my laptop , went to /music and downloaded music manager , then it allowed me to start uploading my music which then appeared on my nexus 7 and allowed me no stream it. No proxy or vpn.

It should, because the tech has already existed to do it for years..UPnP. BubbleUPnP already does this, and runs on an Android stick as both a renderer and server (along with thousands upon thousands of other Android apps). Why does the world need Chromecast? There's no compelling need..it's just another cheap way to get a browser to your tv..like David Pogue said in his review.

Chromecast for use in UK

I have had a Chromecast delivered to a friend in the US. Before I get it sent over here, would it be best to have him set it up over there and then just use it here or do I need to have it sent to me here in UK in virgin state and sideload the setup apk?
Any advice and links to guides from UK users would be much appreciated.
For now I am really only interested in using YouTube and Chrome on it.

Just a lot of conjecture on whether it will be out before Christmas. It has been out of stock in the US (at least on Amazon) until this last week or so. I would hope they will have learnt something about the demand to be expected and get those warehouses filled up for Santa. But then again the Nexus 4 supply fiasco didn't seem to teach them anything so who knows?
I've had once in UK for a month or so now, bought and shipped from US.
It has auto updated at least three times already.
The only thing that you must watch for is when the chromecast apk updates as the market won't do it for you. But it's always found on the internet

Better off doing it yourself, as you can then make sure to flash a non-updating ROM onto it. theres no problem setting up entirely in the UK, and everything works fine over here. (with the latest ROM it even sets up as UK in one of the 2 region options.. )

Try changing your wireless channel in the superhub.. I assume the US might not use all the same ones we do over here, might get it working. (just a guess by the way no evidence to support it being correct)

Theres no Radio on my google music... maybe I didnt get update?
Welcome to Canada!
I'm glad a post was made announcing Google Music's availability in Canada, perhaps a new thread dedicated to services actually available to Canadians should be started, for example Amazon app store is finally available to us Canadians (Free app of the Day):victory:
For those who don't care I understand, but many many services are delayed or blocked for us up here so having a resource or post letting us now about one finally getting loose up here is great!

This is how it happened. I accessed the Play Store, and went to Music. It was there that I found music for sale! I immediately bought the new pearl jam cd. I now believe that it was this purchase that brought about the changes to Google music on my phone.
I am running v5.2.1224L.847622

"The Google Play music player is currently available in select territories"
I wonder if it has something to do with the fact the user who got it working has a Credit card with an American address

The visa is a Canadian card, I just changed the address to a company in the U.S. that I use for shipping purposes.

LOL because Google doesnt like to offer Canada all the services... for US only..
Even google voice doesnt work in Canada.. you need to trick google into thinking your a US resident.. the number they give you is a US number also..

It's not Google's fault, blame the CRTC & banks, for Google Voice & Wallet not being here.

Grand Central, the company Google purchased and transformed into Google Voice, offered Canadian numbers.
Plus there are several talk/text applications that offer Canadian numbers like Fongo.
Don't know, but I'll take your word for it. Perhaps it's size - smaller player's get away with it, while bigger companies play by the rules? I'm sure if they could Google would go for it - it's in their interest to do so.
