[Q] Bluetooth PS4 controller possible? - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to use this app Game Controller 2 Touch which says it is compatible with dualshock 4 and nook hd+, but it doesn't work with just ime and I haven't been able to get any support from the developer. The touch emulation works, but I want to just use the controller on emulators. Just pairing with bluetooth normally works, but there is a huge delay so I wanted to try this app since it says it stops the input lag. Can anyone else try the demo version to see if they can get it to work or know of any other ways to connect lag free with bluetooth?

Tested the free version. My findings:
The app will work with the PS3 controller via cable following exactly the instructions in config -> help section.
However, I believe bluetooth, ps3 controller, and the nook hd+ never worked before and it seems like this app does not do anything different there. Also...
It states, "A Game Controller i.e. Any Gamepad/Joystick which can be paired via Bluetooth or Connected through OTG to the Device". Nothing about being able to do bluetooth on the nook hd+ with the ps3 controller.
So I could be wrong but the only advantage of this app appears to be (in my brief test) that it can be used to assign buttons to touch only games - which also appears to be a rather horrible do-it-yourself button assign to touch areas on the screen thing.
If I'm wrong on both of those then its worth it to me, otherwise not.

Well there is a list of tested devices and nook hd+ is one of them, but he does not say how he tested it. It could be that it is just tested with an OTG cable. Is it common for even the PS3 controller to have input lag through bluetooth? If so I will just do the workaround for OTG if that is the only way to get decent input

Someone else might know about it via Bluetooth. I definitely don't know as its never been working for me.
---------- Post added at 04:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:06 PM ----------
It looks like he says his app doesn't do Bluetooth connections? That is, the controller must be enabled via bluetooth outside of the app -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47224131&postcount=31
In any case, I think before people couldn't get Bluetooth and the ps3 controller working via the mentioned app with the nook hd+ anyway. So unless that changed...
This review is found for the sixaxis app on Jan 21 2014 "Controller does not connect with CM10.1 on a Nook HD+ I'm able to write the master address to the controller using the app, however, the controller cannot connect wirelessly. Looking around on the internet, I don't seem to be the only person with this issue. It'd be fantastic if this could be fixed. Till then, two stars. "
So thinking bluetooth is still a no go.

Controller for Optimus 4X HD

Hi everyone. I'm looking for controller for Optimus 4X HD to play games like Shadowgun, Sonic 4 or GTA III (I never played this game) on my HD TV. To be honest, I'm fan of Xbox 360 controller, so maybe you know similar design controllers, which would work on mine 4X HD?
Not aware of any xbox looking bluetooth controllers but PhoneJoy might work for you, though it's a copy of a PS controller.
I think you can connect a wired xbox controller to your phone.

According to this at least the Tegra chipset should support usb controllers such as the Xbox 360 wired controller.
http://www.tegrazone.com/support/game-controller-support
However from what I can gather from this forum USB OTG is not supported on the 4x. I dont know if these 2 are connected or not so maybe you should ask someone who has more experience with this phone.
The Moga Gaming Controller looks pretty good. It's also compatible with quite a few Gameloft games. I'm very tempted to buy it but it doesn't seem to be available in the UK. I would have to order shipping from US.

But does it really work? I mean, the USB host of the O4X is locked or something, so one can't use USB Sticks or USB keyboards or mouses.....

Actually it works fine only with wireless bluetooth controller(like PS3) but not with wired or receiver based wireless controller(Like X-Box).
I have PS3 wireless dual shock3 controller - all I needed to do is to connect it via Bluetooth using any app(I used SixAxis) as soon as its connected you don't need to configure anything else for above list of tegra games since they support controller by default however for other games you'll also have to create on-screen touch profile so you can play
I enjoyed hours(~4-5hrs) of game play with controller specially when connected to my 50inch tv - phone gets hot but who cares if it runs game buttery smooth until battery drains off completely
But I still feel this mhl concept is downgrade technology it would have been much better with separate HDMI port and fully functional USB port so we can have more options for USB devices simultaneously with TV viewing.

I don't think it can be possible because the USB port is not able to deliver enough power to the attached device, however I think it can be possible if we can deliver power from separate source.
In any case I wont be able to use TV-Out function and USB devices simultaneously since both uses same usb port.

It might work... On my old tablet, I simply connected a USB hub to it and then I could use my USB keyboard and mouse @ the same time... plus i wanted to watch a movie that I had on my USB stick, so I also connected it to the hub and the keyboard, the mouse and the USB stick were working... so if we could get the USB port working, this should work too...

Due to how 5-pin MHL works, you can only do either HDMI out or USB at any given time. You cannot ever do both simultaneously.
i bought this one.. unfortunately...
i recently bought a bluetooth ps3 compatible controller for 10€ on amazon (not allowed to post links, <10 posts)
search amazon-de for "DualShock Wireless Bluetooth Game Controller-Golden" by "generic"
well at least it says "bluetooth" in the description and on a sticker glued to the thing.
i havent been able to register a bluetooth signal from this, be it on the phone or on the pc with a usb bt dongle.
so i guess it in reality is a 2.4GHz Wireless pad (not bluetooth) or its just broken.
i wont send it back, because i pity the seller, he sent me this for 10€ from the USA.
i think that the production costs and delivery ate up the 10€, he probably put in the wrong price for his offer, so i let it be.
but i will test this on a real ps3 today and if its not working i put it into the trashcan and let you know.
still wasnt able to connect even a wiimote to my phone, but thats perhaps because the only wiimote i got here and that wasnt grabbed by my niece is a bit broken (doesnt sync anymore when pressing 1+2, only when i press the buttons next to the batteries, and that doesnt seem to work)
so i still search for a way to connect a controller to my phone without buying an original ps3 controller for 45€

Is there any USB receiver for your new controller? B'cause I have Thrustmaster 2.4GHz wireless PS3 controller but it had receiver so all 2.4GHz controller will have a separate receiver (Like small pendrive) which will receive controller signals. If not then it should be bluetooth controller.
Also phones default bluetooth app will not search your device no matter what you press on your controller, to pair your new controller you have to have bluetooth controller pairing app - I am using "SixAxis Controller" without which my Original PS3 Bluetooth Controller is useless.
Also any bluetooth controller should work it doesnt need to be PS3.
If you need any more details just search about it, if anything specific you can always ask me here.
yesyes
I have the Sixaxis Controller app, but as i said the controller isnt recognized even by the pc.
but you are right, theres no receiver, so it should be bluetooth.
oh my, i guess its broken and useless in the end
what else did i expect from a 10€ offer...
but still i will try it on a ps3 today.
maybe theres some sort of magic and it works^^
yay!
Well, magic it was.
I just had to use the "Sixaxis pair tool"
Connecting is done like that:
1. Start Sixaxis Controller App, dont click on "Start" yet.
2. Start the Sixaxis Pair Tool, available from http://www.dancingpixelstudios.com/sixaxiscontroller/tool.html
3. Connect the PS3 Pad to your PC via USB
4. After the Sixaxis Pair Tool has found your controller, enter the Phone's bluetooth address (as seen in the Controller App) into the Sixaxis Pair Tool window and click "Update". You change the comtroller's "master" to the phones address with this.
5. Disconnect the Controller USB cable
You can now click on "Start" in the Controller app, the controller will pair with the phone.
You dont need a profile for Dead Trigger, so its ok to test with it.
Just activate "native gamepad emulation" in the Sixaxis input preferences.
If you need profiles for games, you can find some here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1956604
you can install them as described in the thread or just go to settings -> input methods -> sixaxis controller -> preferences -> touch profiles and import it there, after this you can choose it in the Controller App. (Notice: import it in the settings, chose it in the App. 2 completely different places.)

I think any replica of DualShock 3 should be cheap and fine, I bought original DS3 for ~54$ however I was getting Chinese make good bluetooth controllers for half the price (~25$). I am talking about branded pads (RedGear, Amigo) but these pads are not available every where.
As LamerDuck mentioned his un-named PS3 controller(for 10€ ) is working fine so even cheapest one should be fine for casual gaming.
However i feel below controller looks quite good and very similar to my DS3, At least its properly packed and looks good check out below links:

Is it possible to get a wired 360 ontroller working with the Note 2? I've seen it working properly with other android devices and can get the pad to work with a custom IME app but not working as a proper gamepad.
Any ideas or is it not possible with this phone with stock rom?

It is not recognised as a native gamepad on stock software. You can use it mapped with USB/BT Joystick Centre (using an IME, as you say). I've used one that way with the Note II.
There was a mod on the XDA front page last week about a mod for the Nexus 7 that allows it to be recognised as a native gamepad, that may work with the Note II also (although it was in relation to another device the brief perusal of the thread that I had made it look like it would be widely applicable).
Are there any pads that are recognised without any messing? I've seen people mention the PS3 controller with an app that gives full analog support, maybe I'll have to get one of them instead.
I've seen some drivers for the 360 pad, xpad.ko and something but couldn't get them to work with my Note2.
How many games work with them anyway?

I used the PS3 controller on my OG EVO 4G with the SixAxis.apk and it works great! It is compatible with everything because as far as the phone is concerned it sees it as another keyboard. So you can even navigate your launcher/apps with it once its enabled. You just have to download an app to your PC to change the MAC Address on your PS3 controller (very easy and straight forward and takes all of 10 seconds) and your ready to go.
I didn't know until I saw this thread that a 360 controller could be used as well. Ill have to look into that. I would rather do something that was directly connected for games because even though the PS3 Bluetooth is cool, there is a slight lag with Bluetooth. I would be interested to see if a wired controller fixed that.
I think game controllers in Android is still very much in its infancy. So many game still don't support the things, and I HATE touch screen gaming with a passion.
Once released, the MOGA will be recognized as a native controller. I'm not a T-Mobile customer but I'm sure you could buy one from them without a plan. They are set to release for approx. $50.
New games will already be mapped to this controller, I would assume that software to make this usable with older games is not too far behind.

So does it just map to key presses like the way I can get the 360 controller to work? Or can it also be used analogically? Is that a word? On the Sixaxis Controleller info it says:
Support as a native gamepad in Android 3.1+ devices. Full support for analog sticks and analog triggers
Hmm, I don't think this is going to be as easy as I was expecting
PS3 controllers work as native gamepads, plug them in via USB OTG and they work without any additional software. Number of games they work in is limited however, only games that allow keymapping or that have inbuilt support for gamepads (like Shadowgun for example). If you use the Sixaxis Controller app then you can use PS3 controllers wirelessly, and also emulate touch as well, meaning the number of games that become playable with the PS3 controller increases massively - see here:

The reason I had to use the SixAxis.apk is because my phone only natively supports Gingerbread and so it needs the software. No OTG support.
I thought I was going to be able to use Joystick Center for some emulator goodness but it crashes every time I try to use it
I might have to try out my Wii remote, see if I can have some luck with that instead, although that doesn't have enough buttons for some games.

Strange, USB/BT Joystick Centre works fine for me.
You can use a Wii Classic Controller if you need more buttons for emulators (does require a WiiMote to plug into though, so cumbersome). If you can track one down the Datel Retro Wireless controller is better.
Strange. Wonder why it's not working for me. It works fine when I first run it and detects the controller but when I press back to save the settings the homescreen hangs and if I try going back to Joystick Center it displays a white screen and never does anything. I have to clear the app cache before it'll work again.
Please, I might be a little slow in understanding but just be patient with me. Just a simple question:
Is it possible to use either controller simply by connecting it with a usb without needing to root my phone? If so which one, if not both?

The Xbox 350 controller for Windows works without Root, but requires the paid app USB/BT Joystick Centre.
PS3 controller works without Root and without any additional apps.
Number of games that will work with either controller that way is quite limited though, only emulators, games with native gamepad support (Shadowgun, Riptide, a few others), and games that will allow control button mapping (like Meganoid). With Root you can do a lot more with PS3 controllers because you can use the Sixaxis Controller app to set up touch emulation, which makes many, many more games playable with the controller.
Well I finally got the controller working with joystick Center. I installed he Omega ROM and it's now working. Shame it won't work as a gamepad. My Bluetooth speakerphone isn't working perfectly with the new ROM though :S
Hmm, I tested it too and my xbox 360 wired usb controller works not the right way .....
I have the N2 smart dock station and the xbox 360 wired controller
Also I bought the BT/Joystick center, here the stick works fine but in gta 3 onlz the left stick to move and rotate works fine. no kezs to jump ......
I use wanam 1.5 rom Android 4.1.1 with redpill .10 kernel
I have tested other roms with 4.1.2 but theres the same problem.
Perhaps this is only a key mapping for the controller.
... the smart dock is awsome !
Has anyone been able to get the wireless USB dongle working via. an OTG cable? This is for a wireless 360 controller. I've seen it working on other android devices...
Moga lacks some buttons. Best hassle free controller out there right now is the onlive wireless controller. It like a cross between the ps3 and Xbox controller. Simple Bluetooth pairing. No rooting required. Downside is that it cost 50 dollars. I've bought scuf controllers though so price was OK to me.
Best controller that works out of the box via USB is a genuine Sony PS3 SixAxis controller. If you want to use PS3 controller's wireless capability you'll need to root and buy the SixAxis app which is well worth the few bucks for it.
My XBOX 360 controller works perfectly in conjunction with USB/BT Joystick Centre.
A great app and well worth the money. GTA vice city plays very well and on the Note II.
I haven't played Need for Speed™ Most Wanted yet but I expect it to change the game completely
Can anyone think of any other good uses for the controller on android as the buttons can be mapped to pretty much any keyboard stroke so im sure there some handy uses

[Q] CM 10.1 bluetooth (joystick) support?

Sorry if I'm beating a dead drum here but I couldn't really find a definite answer. In what way is Bluetooth limited in the nook HD using CM 10.1? I see that keyboards and mouse via wired USB are no problem, but are they working normally via bluetooth? I've tried my PS3 controller via Bluetooth and that didn't work so before I go out and spend a bunch of money on wireless Bluetooth peripherals (keyboard, mouse, joystick), I want to be sure they're working. Can anyone report Bluetooth peripherals that do work?

I've got a real one and it doesn't via bluetooth. I've read it does via wired usb connection, but we're talking about wireless Bluetooth here.
I'm not interested in using wired peripherals.
It needs app(s) and games that support gamepad.
PS3 controller app is one - requires reprogramming of BT key using a PC though.
Would like to hear other apps that work (with both XBOX360 & PS3). One that doesn't require reprogramming would be great.

Nope I've tried the app. It's my understanding that all Android devices require the app for PS3 joysticks to work via Bluetooth. In the case of the Nook HD+ running CM 10.1 it doesn't work at all. I'm wondering if that's exclusive to the PS3 controller, or if I can do retro gaming with any bluetooth controller.
Anyone have the Nyko Playpad Pro for Android/Bluetooth?
It's on amazon and has decent reviews.

My Moga Pivot bluetooth controller works great especially with the 3rd party universal driver. So glad i bought it when they were on firesale for $5.
All of my blue tooth controllers work that I have tried. I have three.
The six-axis app for ps3 controller DOES NOT work on CM 10.1 on the nook.
I tried every way possible. It only works if you connect it with usb, which i don't like either.
but six axis still won't function = useless.
The MOGA works as does the cheapo GameStop blue tooth controller.
I got a moga...tired of waiting for six axis to get fixed.

You have better luck than me.
My PS3 controller won't work no matter what was used, sixaxis BT, USB host, joy center.
I gave up trying this.
I don't plan to game a lot anyway. I'd just get the Nvidia Shield if I ever need to so more than casual time wasters on Androis
Yep, I have two controllers from Gamestop and both work fine with HD+.

Did you use a USB hub?
Sixaxis on CM10
I'm using verygreen's CM10 on SD card build (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032364) and the sixaxis app works great. I've played through half of Symphony of the Night.
I was just about to update to CM10.1, but I think I'll hold off.

PS3 Controller with Gear VR - No root ???

Hello.
I watched many tutorials and videos about using ps3 on android but all I see is 2 options:
1. OTG cable
2. Root + Sixaxis enabler.
I do not want to root my s6edge+ and can't use otg cable while phone is connected to Gear Vr since it does not recognize it.
Is there any way to be able to use ps3 controller without root on Gear Vr?
Thanks
BR.
I might be wrong on this, but I think the PS3 controller needs root to manage the bluetooth driver. The PS4 controller would be the "no root wireless" option, but right now, i'm having issues getting it to work. I'm able to pair the controller, but not connect it. It seems that once it's paired, it defaults back to the PS4. I see this is a common problem with the new flagship Galaxy devices. It seems maybe a bluetooth problem.

Not only that, but you usually also need a custom rom/kernel in order for it to work (at least on my Note 4; stock rooted rom won't work with the PS3 controller).

I am also having this exact same issue. It's been driving me insane. I have bought an OTG cable and everything trying to get them working together but it also doesn't seem to work for me cabled.
Has anyone found any resolutions to this yet that anyone knows of? Really wanna play Demonhalls etc on Gear VR but can't get the controller to work! :'(
Yeah I can't get the ps3 to work either. I can pair the ps4 controller and it works for a little bit then it starts acting crazy. I bought an ASUS controller for $25 that works great except for not having a start button lol. Can't play anything in the arcade. I can't win.
I have a note 5 by the way.

tablet remote app

works for dreadhalls as well-i cut out the controller buttons with those pads for chair legs with sticky back-only drawback no tactile feedback
Who ever is facing a problem in connecting the remote through cable, try to use a new cable and it might work.
It worked for me

Game Controllers - USB OTG & Bluetooth - (CM12.1)

Has anyone managed to get any game controllers working in CM on the fire?
Games seem to run well on this device and it would be cool as my main gaming device.
I've tried a Wiimote, I can get it to pair and it shows as connected as a Bluetooth input device (the LEDs continue to flash, which I think is normal behaviour) but nothing works and games like GTA don't recognise it. (Wiimote Controller app doesn't support CM as its suggested it was built in back on JB + lots of outdated information out there).
I don't have a PS3 or Xbox controller to test unfortunately.
I also pulled out an old PS2 to USB converter and a couple of non official PS2 controllers, tried. This seems to partially work. It's recognised in GTA and the analogous sticks work but none of the buttons work. In the launcher some of the buttons do seem to perform actions such as emulating the home button so I think this is a mapping ussue. Any pointers on remapping buttons would be appreciated.
I would be interested to know if anyone else has tested any other controllers USB / or BT?
Thanks.
Iirc wiimotes require kernel support & we currently can not run modified kernels. Nintendo did some crap that prevents them from working with the standard unmodified BT.
So has anyone tried a PS3/4 or Xbox controller?
PS3 controller works great with the Sixaxis app.

Do you have to be running cyan to use a ps3 controller?
Not sure, I am on CM.
My guess is it should work. There is a free compatibility test app from Sixaxis in the play store, give it a try.
