Gear symbol on phone - Samsung Gear 2 Neo

Got my new Gear 2 Neo Mocha Gray from AT&T from the sale (despite being a Verizon customer, hehe), and I'm really enjoying it so far. The trick I found was just change the drop down when you order from mobile to home phone FYI.
I'm a bigger guy so I find the size very pleasing, it's aesthetically pleasing as well. The lack of apps can be forgiven as it is new but what it does so far it does well.
There is one thing that is really bugging me though. I am a little OCD about clutter on my phone and hate notification icons at the top, it makes me think I have unread messages/emails/etc. How can I force my Note 3 to not display the little watch symbol while the Gear is connected, I looked for turn notification off in 3 different Gear app places but all were grayed out.
Thanks!

If you are rooted and on kitkat there is an xposed setting that will do it. However. That persistent notification is what keeps Android from purging the app.

I am rooted, on 4.3...on clue how to do that though. I do get what you are saying about preventing Android from purging.

That notification icon is my biggest complaint right now. Galaxy S3, not rooted. =-/

Yeah, it's my biggest complaint too...and it's not even in the watch it's on the phone

a lot of people are having problems with xposed as once the framework is installed it causes s health to crash
so far not fix for it but it works for some and not others.

Xposed works on my note 3, assuming you have a different device. ..

He's not saying xposed doesn't work but if u install s health and have xposed running u will struggle getting it to load....
I uninstalled xposed as I use s health quite a bit.

Precisely. Xposed and shealth work fine for me, I suspect its device specific. Shealth 3.1 aand latest xposed on note 3 kitkat stock rooted.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk

I loaded up a new rom and all is working 100 % I went with the Echoe rom

I'd like to remove that ongoing notification as well. Anything xposed modules for 4.3 that work to remove that?
Sent from my Galaxy Note 3

Notifyclean takes care of the notification.

I have it with my S4 and can find and download the Gear Manager in Samsung APPS. Search for Gear and find "Samsung GALAXY Gear Manager".
Not everything working but ok.

It works but not everything. S VOICE, weather, txt and email alert doesn't work on me using a 4.2.2 rom.
Media control, answer/make calles, change watch face, install apps via apk not using thw samsung app store all work. I'm sure that are other things that work and other things that don't work. I just can't remember all right now

Not that I notice anything monumental on saving juice. Maybe, there would be a significant change once my S4 is on 4.3 JB cuz I know I can check notifications, use S-voice as it's meant to be and what not so less time unlocking the phone and screen usage... although phone's BT is running all the time so Gear could remain tethered to it but i believe it's BT 4.0 LE*, right?
*LE, Low Energy... though am not sure it's got a real world impact or just a marketing scheme...

Alright, so I have been tinkering with my watch and have a few questions. I have rooted my watch and installed busy box, and all is going well so far. Additionally, I am using my watch with my S4, rather than my Note 3. I wanted this topic to be more of a few questions and general discussion/clarification.
I have installed the newest Gear Manager and when I go to Weather on the watch I get "Add city to weather widget on mobile device" but it never seems to sync. I have added a location to the weather widget. Is this by chance just a feature thats not quite working on the S4 yet, or am I missing something?
Pedometer - When I try to send my steps to SHealth it fails to sync. Also, known S4 issue, or missing something?
Gear Manager - Unable to install apps - When I navigate to My Apps > Featured > MyFitnessPal for Samsung Galaxy Gear (or any other app), I select Install, and I get "Product does not exist in this store(4002)". Im guessing this is because the Samsung store is reading my S4 build.prop and determining there are no compatible apps.
In re the last topic, could someone send me the APK from their watch for this app, Ill side load it.
I am at the office and want to install some apps via ADB, but don't have my cradle handy. Is there any way to get an APK to the watch that anyone can think of?
I am working on recompiling the stock camera app that does not have the shutter sound. Ill share when I get it done.
Update: Here is a thread with all of the APKs: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468522
Thanks!
I got every thing working on my gs4, including svoice, text notification, and weather by using the 4.3 rom. I also downloaded the latest gear manager from a post in this forum and ot seems to work great, including allowing me to download apps from samsung.

I had this same issue on the Gear 2 Neo and the updated templates did not push to the watch until I modified ALL of the templates. Initially, I only wanted to edit a few of them and nothing changed on my watch...even after restarts. After going back to edit the others as well, the watch was immediately refreshed with the new templates (with no restart or any further action). Odd, but it is what it is.

Stock Kit Kat 4.4.2 Issues on Sprint S4

I'm on stock Kit Kat for my sprint S4. I noticed that now when I wirelessly charge my phone it gets extremely hot. Also one it gets to 94% it stops charging. Not sure of it stops due to heat or the new software doesn't like to do wireless charging. I have an aftermarket qi charger and peice for my phone. They worked perfect until I updated last week . Is anyone else having this problem. The other thing I noticed is Google hangouts emoticons when entered in a chat come out looking diffrent. Looks like Samsung emoticons. I checked this on my wife's note 3 after updating to stock kit Kat and the emoticon icon disappeared. So not sure if this is another issue with it may and Samsung phones.

This is not an issue, it is a new security policy implemented by Google in Kit Kat. You can add a line to platform.xml and return functionality. But it is not a bug, Google did it on purpose.
Culprit maybe the charger I've got 2 out of 4 that will not charge my phone and they are all Samsung chargers. I think some are just temperamental.

You need to go to platform.xml in the system/etc/permissions folder with root explorer. Open it with a text editor. Look for the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission line and add this line under the 2 permissions that are already listed. Follow the same formatting as the other permissions.
Add this: <group gid="media_rw" />
Save and exit, then reboot your phone. It's a good idea to back up the file before editing which root explorer should automatically do for you. Good luck.

how?
I have checked several times, and my sprint galaxy s4 is "up to date" but im still on JB. Could this be due too the fact that i bricked my phone and had to use odin on my pc to basically wipe everything including root? But i dont see that being the problem since i stayed on stock while i was rooted. I just rooted for the hotspot mod for mk2
In find that Samsung wires for charger breaks fast..I change both my wife wire to another and works fine...KitKat update the best..no issues except for transition animation bug is still there.. After a few times opening camera it defaults back to 0 when I had it set to .5...great battery snappier less ram..consumption...my phone doesn't get as hot anymore...

Launcher has nothing to do with gear manager, touchwiz framework is necessary although in this topic people are saying the new update is less dependant on touchwiz.. you can use any launcher you want it has nothing to do with the files needed to run gear manager..

You definitely don't need a Samsung phone to have the phone work with the Gear. I've had my Gear running with a Moto E and a Moto G - neither of them were rooted or modded in any way. I just installed the latest Gear Manager from a link on here after updating my Gear to Tizen. It's worth mentioning that I was running an old version of Gear Manager originally and my battery wouldn't even last half a day. Since I installed the latest version I'm getting days of use out of it -- having activated only Tweeting, Hangouts, WhatsApp and Gmail for notifications and turned off the auto activate backlight feature. It's four days since I charged and I'm still on 72%
None of the Samsung apps show up on the phone if it isn't Touchwiz based - so there's no S-Voice or Weather. I can use the Bluetooth Trusted Device feature on my Moto to have my phone turn PIN off when my Gear is connected to it.

Yes. I do it all the time. The only difference between doing it on a non Touchwiz phone compared with a Touchwiz phone is that the phone sees it as a handsfree device so will answer on the Gear by default, even if you hit the answer button on the phone. You just need to tap the little icon next to the 'End Call' button on the Gear though and it will route the call back to the handset. You can also tap the bluetooth icon on the dialer and switch the source to earpiece or speakerphone. Bit of an annoyance but not a particular problem.
