Chrome for android can send any HTML5 video to chromecast. Why can't PC chrome? - Google Chromecast

Chrome for android can send (almost) any HTML5 video on the web to chromecast. Why can't PC chrome?
Or, does anyone know of a chrome plug in that will do this for Windows?
Thanks!
James

Anyone?

Get Googlecast for Chrome.

Thanks! I have that, but it doesn't do what I want.
I can cast any page, but I can't just cast the video like you can with the chrome for android beta...

There are many plugins for Chrome, I use vidcast (bookmarklet) and vGet and both work well.

IDEA VLC Streaming

VLC Player itself has a STREAMING option in the File>streaming
It can stream to HTTP, RTSP, UDP.... any know if this is possible to get chromecast to pick it up?
HTTP seems to be the logical choice. But no idea how to pick it up anyone familiar with these functions?

I think this is to stream something out on the web. It doesn't take local content and turn it into an http stream, if that is what you were wanting. In other words it doesn't really stream to http but it streams from an http url.

Actually, it does. I have used some media player for iOS that makes use of VLC's (desktop version) streaming of local content capability.

So it is possible to do it, just have to figure out how to read the stream either on the Chrome Browser end or better yet ChromeCast itself
So you mean other than streaming in a chrome tab and casting that tab, right? Cuz right now I can play a movie in chrome through vlc and that's how I cast my local media . all formats too but higher res does lag a lil bit

VLC Web Plugin
Does anyone know how to set VLC as the default extension in Chrome? Web searched and couldn't find the answer?
I downloaded the web plugin for Chrome Mac, installed it fine, and re-launched chrome.
Whenever I queue up a movie, it launches the Quicktime extension instead of Chrome extension.
Thanks!

VLC plugin is out of date. It doesn't even show up in chrome://plugins. That being said, VLC would need to stream to the DIAL protocol as that is what chromecast uses. In its current state, VLC will do no such thing.

Chrome extension to push any video....?

So... in theory,
Should it be possible to write a chrome extension, and a chromecast app, to push whatever video you liked to your Chromecast (assuming the relevant codec worked on chromecast).
This is instead of pushing the whole webpage, instead just pushing the video. I'm thinking specifically about BBC iPlayer, but various other videos too...
James
Koush is working on something along those lines...
Full-screen tab-casting with the existing Chromecast extension for Chrome already does that. It just doesn't do it very well. Needs more buffering I think.
Check this out, it may be what you're looking for. https://dabble.me/cast
That's exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for, I'll try it out later!
Thanks.

Except Chrome doesn't play all video types, which op was referring to I believe.

VidCast is interesting, but also very limited:
- only supports MP4 and WebM, and not all of those (for unknown reasons it doesn't like some absolutely basic standard MP4 files)
- doesn't work with Plex at all
Also a few key requirements to get it to work at all:
- must update Chrome to the latest version
- must disable Flash plugin for sites which may use Flash player (otherwise none of the buttons in the player window will function)

I've been using it quite a bit today and haven't needed to disable Flash plugin to let it do it's thing.
It is limited, but Facebook/Vimeo/Daily Motion casting is a heck of a lot more than we had two days ago

It depends on the site. Sites that default to Flash player won't work unless Flash is disabled and they'll switch to HTML5 (it's mentioned in the detailed instructions)
I'm talking about a chrome extension that pushes the video only to the Chromecast, directly. In the same way that YouTube and netflix work, for example

put bookmarklet on bookmark bar, nav to their vimeo demo, clik on bookmarklet, click on play, click on cast icon. nothing happens....
Make sure to have the latest version of Chrome and the Chromecast plugin. Also, for whatever reason, having the flash plugin enabled causes this to not work sometimes. It doesn't happen for me, but that's what others have reported.

What is this supposed to show?
Here is Vgethttps://chrome.google.com/webstore/...o-down/hniladkejehjfchadikcbjmgjaogciic?hl=en link
I'm not sure how Vget works but when I was viewing a page that the vidcast bookmarklet couldn't add casting to, Vget gives the option to cast it.
@aiiee
The vimeo video didn't work for me too... If you change your browser user agent to an android tablet/phone or possibly ios , I only tried android tablet, after it reloaded the UA it did work. But before I changed the user agent I clicked the Vget icon and it gave the option to cast the video in mp4 while video on the page was an flv I believe. So I think the Vget is able to check if the video url returns a proper format video for chromecast. Most sites video will play in formats according to the user agent presented.

Cast From Windows To Chromecast

This is a how to on Casting Xbmc from Computer to TV for Free using Chromecast Browser. You are going to see this blows away any previous method for casting like this. It actually can even cast live streams which I didn't even think was possible and something I wasn't able to do in Avia or Allcast! It currently should work on Windows, Mac, Chrome OS and Linux.
The instructions are below. I'm not going to post links here because I don't want to get banned. You can cut and paste the line in bold print into either Google or YouTube and it will take you to my video where I provide instructions and links to everything you need which isn't really that much.
Cast XBMC from Chrome Browser - Free!!! Live Sports!!!
How to Cast XBMC from Computer to TV for Free using Chromecast and Chrome Browser.
Step 1. Go into Chrome Browser and add the Google Cast Extension.
Step 2. Download and install XBMC Windows version 12.3 Frodo
You need to run xbmc once to set up the proper folders.
Step 3. Download my modified playercorefactory.xml
Place playercorefactory.xml in the userdata folder using the following path.
C:\Program Files (x86)\XBMC\system\
Hint: My path to Chrome Browser is C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe Your path to chrome.exe could definitely be different than mine and you will have to find your path and change it in the playercorefactory.xml.
Step 4. Demonstration
Start Chromecast
Start XBMC
Start your show- Click the Cast Button and it automatically finds the Chrome Browser and plays the video. You hit the cast button and it casts to the Television.
Good Luck!

Just wanted to mention, that this setup plays Mp4's or Mkv's which play in the Chrome Browser and then can be casted with Chromecast. In
order to play FLV and other formats, you can use VLC Player Chrome Extension and then you can play all the formats on the computer and cast them with a work around.
Download the 32 bit version of VLC Player and make sure Plugins/Extensions are checked during installation. Then type chrome://plugins in the chrome browser and make sure the VLC web plugin is enabled. Now anything that can be played by the Chrome Browser like an mp4 will play in Chrome and anything that can't be played by the Chrome Browser like an flv will still open inside the Chrome Browser but in VLC.
Will this work for casting MKV's coded with AC3 audio directly from the PC to the Chromecast without going through an Android device? I've tried tab-casting files played by Plex but the performance is never too good.

Problem I'm having with this is that Chrome insists on playing the MKV. No sound because's it's AC3. Is there a way to force Chrome to use VLC?
Will this work on Gotham beta 3?
I couldnt get this to work on neither Win7 or Win8. Tried changing paths in the xml and still nothing.
I got everything... but every time i try to play a live stream... it will just download the playlist and not stream directly onto the google chrome browser... am I missing something?
All paths are correct, and i have the VLC plug in on chrome browser....
Is anyone else have the same issue?

Cast a live YouTube stream from a PC but not an android phone?

Today I was trying to watch a live YouTube stream from my phone. I got the message that live streams were not permitted on my Chromecast.
I then tried casting the same stream from my desktop. It worked. To verify that I wasn't just casting a chrome tab, I closed all of the chrome windows. The stream kept working.
I also tried casting the stream from chrome beta for android. I didn't get an error, but the casting didn't work. I just got a black screen on the phone and a YouTube screen on the TV.
Is there a way around this restriction? Can I cast a live feed from my android phone to my Chromecast?
Thanks,
Ken F

Being that live streams aren't supposed to work, either you got lucky, or they're working on it.
Not much you can do but wait to see if YouTube updates its info and/or capabilities.
Live streams work for me from my laptop but not from my phone as well. I don't think it's a mistake, I just don't think the mobile app has added that feature yet.
As I understand it the chromecast doesnt render the video but connects to youtube and plays a specially renderd version for the chrome cast, I guess this is not available live. When you cast from a pc the pc renders the video for you.
YouTube added this support on the Website just recently.....
Coming to an Android App near you at some point!
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...romecast-but-only-from-the-desktop-right-now/
Private Videos too!
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...lay-private-youtube-videos-on-the-chromecast/
Looks like the next Android and iOS will remove the live limitation to casting. They may be beta testing it by only offering it on the website for the moment.
I think u should remove it, maybe it is beta?

I can cast video from that site using Android Chrome on my mobile. Load up the video, hit full screen, and the cast icon should appear.
Alternatively BubbleUpNp should be able to cast net based streams.
Alternatively you should be able to tab cast from Desktop Chrome.
It works!
It's so easy! thank you
