Volume of the ear speaker question - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is the volume of the ear speaker of the sony xperia z's very low or very loud?
Am i able to adjust it from software in the phone or not?
I want the ear speaker to have a good quality sound like the iphone 5s or 4 does and it should be loud for me to hear the sound of the person i am in a call with and the sound should never scatter. it should be between me and the person i am having the call with.
Do you think that the Xperia z is capable of doing that or would you suggest the iphone 4 instead.

Hello, thanks for the reply.
You know what, i have to explain what specific feature i am refering to. Im not talking about the earphones for listening to music. You know not the ones that plug into the ear phone round jack. Not those ones.
Im talking about the ear speaker for listening to somebodies voice when they call you or when you are talking to them over the phone. Also not the speaker for hearing music.
Dont you know what the phone speaker is? Thats the speaker located at the very top of the phone used to hear the persons voice whom you are talking to over the phone. NOT the loud speaker or the earphone.
Thanks.

Yes. Its loud During Calls. If we r in a silent place means others can hear the caller's voice..

Again please make sure your not refering to the loud speaker were i can play an mp3 file from or a multimedia sound file from.
thanks bro..........

[Q] Speakers

Hello everybody!
Creating this thread as couldn't find one which could answer my query.
As we know, our O2x or G2x has dual speakers. But my question is, do both of them work?!
I mean, only one speaker works on my O2x.

They both work on my phone, but not at the same time. Sound either comes through the earpiece speaker or the one on the bottom of the phone.

Yes, it's the same on my phone too! But i really wonder why have they given dual loudspeakers, if one of them doesn't work!
According to the User Manual there is only one speaker.
yes ,and if you unmount your phone ,you will see that the other grid is for the mic !
so their is one speaker at the top for the phone ,and one at the right bottom !
Optimus 2X have only one speaker....
one is microphone and the other is the speaker . At the beginning I thought too that it has 2 speakers but it has just 1
I suare to god it has 2 speakers LOL for one speaker its quite usable.:good:

The speakers are not evenly matched, and so no good for stereo. The earpiece speaker is much weaker than the louspeaker one on the bottom of the phone.
I've always wondered too why so many phones have two speakers, but they are never wired for stereo. I'm sure there would be some way of doing it - it's not like you are ever holding the phone next to your ear when you switch it to loudspeaker, so you could have a speaker that would go much louder there.

Speakers blown out?

So i was trying to get me speakers louder after the ota update lowered the volume and i installed the loud sound mods, soon I wanted to try out faux kernel and when I tried playing music it played for a couple seconds and then the phone made then loudest beep sound you could ever hear. I wiped my phone and flashed a new rom fresh, since then the speakers have been at a lower volume. One of the reasons I got this phone was for the speakers and it's loud capabilities. Judging my situation, do you think my speakers are blown out, if so is there any way I could get the tampered bootloader off the phone so I could send this in for return and get a replacement? Please help, thanks!

A speaker being blown is not it being lower volume. A speaker being blown typically means 2 things.
1) The speaker is no longer functioning at all
2) The speaker is making a horrific "tinny" noise while playing audio that causes the listener to desire to hang themselves using speaker wire.

i was thinking one of the rows of the speaker grills on the top set of speakers stopped working cause it sounds like more volume is coming from the bottom then the top when i put my ear too it. Plus its nowhere near as loud as it was before. Js
Bumping this thread as I have this exact issue. Top speaker volume is drastically lower then the bottom speaker, however the audio coming from it does not sound like that of a "blown" speaker.
Phew I'm not alone, I kinda gave up hope as a replacement phone is supposed to be coming in on Monday

I have the same issue. The Speakers sound is not nearly as loud as it was new. Its irritating to barely hear navigation while driving.

HTC ONE microphone problems

I bought my ONE from amazon.de and, after 2 months, I cracked the screen:crying: .I called htc and they sent me to the official service in my country(Romania). The guys there replaced my htc one (to my big and pleasant surprise) with a new one.I updated it to 4.2.2, but I got some complaints about my voice not being heard loud enough on this new phone.I don't seem to rememeber to have had this on the original one.....
Is it the mic?Or something to do with the network?Anyone elese having similar problems with the microphone during calls?
P.S. By the way, does anybody know how to enable/disable noise cancelation on this phone?
What I've noticed is that my calls aren't as clear as on my Galaxy S3, not sure if noise cancellation is doing too much, but my calls are definitely more "muffled", in fact I almost always have to use my headset to hear people loud and clear. Loudspeaker mode works fine though
It's probably related to this:

Yes, I know about that, that is why I wanted to buy the phone as quick as possible, probably the first one, which I bought in april, was from the first batches, with that mic in it,and this one is not. But,stil, this doesn't explain the low volume....
I mean,I did a test: I put on a song on my ipad3 in a quiet room at about a quarter of the full volume and opened shazam on my htc one and got at about 1-1,5 meters away from the tablet. To my surprise, the mic recorded the sound and shazam recognized the song!!After this little experiment,my conclusion is that the mic is working ok,but, during the calls something is a little wrong!

Question on phone arena review

So there is a new review by phonearena:
phonearena.com/reviews/Samsung-Galaxy-Note-4-Review_id3812/page/3
In the text they indicate that the speakerphone is very weak not very loud; but in the DB test they show it has the highest DB (loudness). What am I missing ?
Nothing. Makes no sense. I noticed that myself. The units I've played with have been very loud, but the quality of the speaker isn't very good.

Could it be that because the placement of the speaker is in the rear, it doesn't actually project sound very strongly, in comparison to the DB it's putting out?

I have the international exynos version and the speaker is very loud. I was impressed how good it sounds.
Wait, so when talking on the phone the rear speaker is used? Wouldn't that cause everyone around to hear what the other person is speaking? I thought phones have separate front speaker for phone calls...

If you mean without loudspeaker then the speaker on the front of the phone is used otherwise would be the rear speaker if on loudspeaker.
Also I totally disagree with PAs comments on the loud speaker
I was in the samsung store on monday in oxford street and they had two note 4s alongside 2 note 3s. I played the same song on both phones back to back and at the same time the note 4 is clearly louder and the speaker sounds better dispite the rear placement.
I am not one that listens to music through the phones speaker so whether it sounds tinny or punchy I couldn't care less as long as the phone it loud enough for me to hear it ring!!
isn't that supposed to be number 1 point of the speaker to be loud enough to hear the phone ring? after that you can then talk about being bassy and blah blah.
Makes no sense, look at GSM Arena review: http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note_4-review-1147p7.php they were surprised as well, Excellent Audio Quality.
I'll see in a couple of weeks when can get my hands on mine.

Low call volume?

I tried a phone call and the volume seems really low even at max volume. Anyone else have that issue?
Also, what about using simultaneous voice and data - does it require an update to work?
I seen some other people say that voice and data didn't work together. Are u kidding me? My old Note 2, Droid 4 and HTC One Max all had data while talking on the phone.

I too noticed low call volume. Boss got the phone same time I did and he says the same. Tried the trick of holding down volume to all the way low and then raising it and that still didnt fix it.
Loving the phone, but if I cant hear people unless its dead quiet, thats no good.
Speaker problems
I just picked up the 64gb! I love the phone...a lot! I notice the low volume on calls as well, but I think there is something more going on.
The speaker sounds absolutely horrible. There is no way this thing isn't defective. It sounds like an old speaker with a busted cone that makes the "tingy" noise. :crying: Just curious if anyone else is having this problem. I listened to the one in the store, but it was very noisy in there. I couldn't get a good gauge. I am going to go back and see what is up. These things happen, I just hope that is what it is. I powered up my Razr Maxx again and listened to see. It sounded great. Please be defective!!!

I noticed this too, my speaker sounded pretty "fuzzy". Haven't had much time to listen to the speaker.
I didn't call anyone yet but I tested a movie and it sounded great coming from an s4
I fixed my problem. Turn off the stupid equalizer for the phone speaker. Much louder for everything.

It's somewhere under the sound settings.
Yeah in the sound settings under Audio Effects.
It seems the call sound is coming from the upper right speaker not the whole speaker strip. I find it a bit loader with my ear closer to the top right corner. Seems a bit silly and i could be wrong but feels this way for me.
Sent from my XT1254 using XDA Free mobile app
I agree - I think the sound is very low.
This is compared to a Galaxy S5 which I could basically set down, not use speakerphone, and still hear.
I'm also experiencing low volume in calls. It's bad enough that I'm tempted to return the phone. I've owned many smart phones and have never experienced this.
The only "workaround" that I've found is to hold the phone in an unnatural position slightly away from my ear and with my ear at the top corner of the phone, and even then the volume is still too low. Totally unacceptable. Did they never make a phone call during testing?? I hope this can somehow be addresses via a software update asap.
Sent from my XT1254 using XDA Free mobile app
I'm thinking this can be solved by a software update. I agree though, the volume is quite concerning.

If we had root it would probably just be a build.prop edit... Oh well.
I'll be waiting for one or the other
So if I'm on BT and switch to speaker on phone instead of talking through the car, the speaker on the phone is super loud, nor van be turned down. Anyone else notice this?

You're right. Seems weird that its not in the middle but its fine if you put your ear to that corner
There are little notches on the left and right side of the grill, my suspicion is that there are "stereo" speakers with one located above each notch. They may also have the audio configured to split volume between the two speakers.
Each call I have had was on speaker phone, and the call quality for me was MUCH better than my G2 and much louder. I took a call today and did not use speaker, I too noticed at first that the call volume was extremely low, I was clicking the volume up constantly and no change. Finally I moved the phone around a bit on my ear until I found the sweet spot.
It seems the call comes from the side, possibly one of the stereo speakers, I believe I remember having to hold the phone on the right side to my ear to get the best volume. It is plenty loud though, just move it around a bit and you will figure it out! Hope this helps!
