[MOD][DEV][WIP] Enabling Harman Kardon effects - One (M8) Android Development

EDIT: Looks like somebody got there before me. Have a look at this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52294479&postcount=2810
I need people to test since I don't own an M8. This is a work in progress.
So I threw up a quick package which enables Harman Kardon. I had a look at the default.xml from the Harman Kardon base and edited stock 1.54 files to enable HK. I also took the necessary equalizer files from the Harman Kardon base.
I have tested this on my HTC One (M7) running M8 ROM since I don't have an HTC One (M8) and I'm not sure if I noticed difference in sound, however I'd like some of you guys to try and report back if you hear any difference. If not, then maybe I'm missing another piece of the puzzle, however logcat doesn't throw up any errors.
Install instructions:
1. Download zip from attachments
2. Copy over to your device
3. Install via custom recovery
4. Reboot

The M8 doesn't have beats.

There is beats references in the default.xml which are set to false as the libs have been removed.

No need to quote the whole post. The M8 Beats is disabled, but is still in the files.

So in other words it's not being used anyway?

Correct

I think the idea when you flash this mod is that you will get a Beats toggle in your settings.
In stead of it activating any beats effects (which are not present on our device as stock) it will activate the HK sound, but you will get a beats icon.
So it's irrespective whether we have Beats before flashing
Am I correct in assuming this?
Cheers....

HK doesn't seem to have a statusbar icon. What it does is enables Harman Kardon in default.xml and adds the necessary equalizer files for it to function.

This did not work for me, but none of the Harman mods have worked and I'm on stock 1.54 and we have BoomSound not beats in settings.

I don't think this worked for me either still BoomSound in settings.

@broopa @Mannup456 - what are your CID guys? This has most likely got to do with your CID.
PS. If you're S-OFF then change CID to 11111111.

Already SuperCID.
Edit: I am tempted to try and flash the H/K Sprint FW to see if that does anything. Will have to wait till I get off of work to try that though.

@broopa - what was your previous CID?

Originally AT&T CID, CWS__001.

@broopa - sounds like our issue. Could you extract CWS__001.xml from /system/customize/ACC for me and I'll edit it for you?

Is the only value you change in the XML the change of the false flag to true at the beats entry?

The changes are as following:
Code:

false

to:

true

AND

true

to:

false

This is the same behaviour as original HK software. Also, I extracted the Harman Kardon equalizer files otherwise there are no files to base sound changes on.
Equalizer files:
Code:
/system/etc/tfa/playbackHM.drc
/system/etc/tfa/playbackHM.eq
/system/etc/tfa/playbackHM.preset
/system/etc/tfa/playbackHM_l.drc
/system/etc/tfa/playbackHM_l.eq
/system/etc/tfa/playbackHM_l.preset

Attached for you.

the zip here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52294479 seems to have a lib folder. However, you also seem to have something extra in there.
I have tried the one in the link above and it worked.
Can you compare the 2 and see you there is something needed from there?

[Tweak] MegaBass (bass enhancer)

I found in another forum a couple of files which allow us to add MegaBass, one of the most beloved features of Sony Ericsson's W(alkman) phone series. I bundled them in an update.zip to be flashed with Clockwork Mod, and given that they work in all Xperia phones, I've decided to spread them around
I hope it's useful!
MegaBass Installer

*Note* I didn't make these files nor am I savvy enough to discuss their effect. They've been tested in most models with success, though, so again, I distribute them in the hope that they can be useful.

He says UPDATE.ZIP so i guess you flash it in recovery.
Thanks! I just flashed it ... Is there any specific option we have to select to activate Mega bass or is it activated by default?
Can anyone explain how to install it?
Excuse me but I do not know how to
proceed. Thank you.

It should be activated by default. I've been told that you need a good equalizer like DSPManager and good headphones to notice the change.
Since this is an update.zip file, you need to be able to enter CWM recovery. Therefore, you need an unlocked bootloader.

if your phone is rooted, you can just extract the update.zip and copy the files.
do not forget to set the proper permission to the files you copied.
after the reboot, it should be loaded by default I suppose.
edit: well, as written in the script, there should be no problem with the method above. but, I could not feel much differences though.

From my understanding it reinforces the bass that the equalizer can produce.

this is a simple xposed module to disable the sprint systemui flag.

You can do that very simply yourself. Download a good file exploit app, make sure you give it root permissions and mount system as rw. Navigate to system/customize/acc and open default.xml. Now find this line

6

And simply change the integer to 5. Dave the xml, reboot and enjoy. If you search through that default.xml you may find allot of things that you want to change. Have fun....

I can, but I'm not sure it would be worth the effort. why would you want that? the default signal icons are useless (showing "3G" for both 1x and ev-do), and afaik every custom rom removes the gps icon anyway.
I'm not saying I won't do it, I'm just saying someone would have to convince me that it's worth putting more effort into doing it than it would take for someone to flash a custom rom.

No every custom rom removes the gps icon, at least no the Sprint port of ViperOne, that's why i'm using your module, because removing the icon myself for some reason breaks the wifi, and regarding the signal icons, well it's just that sprint icons right or wrong are the only ones i know for the past 8 or 9 years so....
I couldn't get this to work. Copied it over and installed via ES Explorer, but nothing happened. It said it installed successfully but after restart the stock icons are still there (GPS and data)

I noticed that in the xposed module statusbar mods you have to do a soft boot for it to take. A hard boot doesn't work for some reason I'm unsure why.

You need to install Xposed Installer first and then run it through that. Just google Xposed and you should be able to find an apk. Extremely useful app. Sense 5 toolbox is another great app to run through xposed.

[MOD] Update PRL from Phone UPDATE 2 for KitKat

Update 2: Attached is an EPST that will allow ##778# PRL changes on KitKat ROMS. It took me a while to figure this out. I had planned on posting this up, but wanted to keep it a Bad Boyz exclusive for a short while. Again the teams intention was always to share this with the community.
Update: I finally cracked EPST. If you have changed your sku to 42, you can set it back to 10 and flash the PRL_Update below. If you have not flashed this, and would like ##778# to work, you can flash the EPST_Only.zip
The EPST will not work on a ROM that already has the sku set to 42
The attached zip includes a modified Phone.apk and the EPST and Fieldtrial apks posted by schmeggy929. This MOD will allow you to change your PRL by dialing ##778# while maintaining the proper CDMA settings under settings> Mobile Data. You need to be rooted to do this.
Instructions:
1) Open a file manager and navigate to system/customize/ACC/default.xml. Open this with an editor and near the bottom change:

10

To:

42

2) Reboot into recovery and flash the attached zip
3) Wipe caches and reboot
Note: Depending on how the location icon was removed from your ROM, this MOD may cause it to reappear. For those on 5.5 ROMs. this will also get rid of the persistent 3G icon in the status bar.
Nm

EcliticOne and Insertcoin both have the sku_set to 42, but they aren't using the Phone.apk that I modified. If you flash the zip on those ROMs you will have to manually set the network mode.
EDIT: Also- on EclipticOne, I don't know how this might jack up the inversion. If someone wants to post up their Phone.apk, I will modify it so that you guys will have the proper CDMA settings- i.e. the ability to switch LTE on and off- while maintaining the color scheme.

Thanks chas :good:
EPST worked fine for me with insertcoin but I have seens others saying it dont work for them for some strange reason so this mod may be useful for those guys too.
This did bring EPST functionality back on InsertCoin R289. However, it does not get rid of the persistent 3G icon and it does bring the location icon back. Any body have any idea how to fix those two problems?

That is going to have to be fixed by whoever cooked up your particular ROM. 5.5 is not ready for prime time where sprint is concerned. The persistent 3g icon and the location icon are there by HTC's doing.

If you have a themed Phone.apk, have your sku set to 10 (please check out the OP), and flash the EPST_Only.zip it will have no other effect than to give you the ##778# function.
I tried this on TranquilOne and the only way I got it to work was to make the edit(changing 10 to 42) and flash the PRL.zip. Only downside was it gave me a black on black EPST popup the one where you choose View or Edit. I tried the EPST zip and it wouldn't even bring up the menu.

just use any AOSP based rom. GPE rom will require s-off. For Beats audio, this is only an EQ that boost bass and treble to max and can easily be replaced (even have better audio) with any other 3rd party EQ.

Works great here. Almost all of the other sound mods are crashing on my phone (well any that use a separate DSPengine.apk to allow a separate equalizer). Like I posted earlier, be wary of the included build.prop. Just copy the sound tweaks section out and add it to your own unless you want your phone to show up as a Chinese Z2 variant.
here is a modified version with D6503 build.prop if you don't want your phone to show as L50w
the mod is working fine, the best so far in term of sound quality.
only issue when rewind/forward the youtube video slider, you lose sound, not sure if it causing by this mod or from the rom. I will check next time I change the rom and report back.
btw you lose sound for the current track/video only, and not ringtones or notification and if you refresh the youtube video the sound is back.

the mod is working fine, the best so far in term of sound quality.
only issue when rewind/forward the youtube video slider, you lose sound, not sure if it causing by this mod or from the rom. I will check next time I change the rom and report back.
btw you lose sound for the current track/video only, and not ringtones or notification and if you refresh the youtube video the sound is back.

Thanks for that. I made my own (effectively identical) when you first posted the mod for us, I guess I forgot to share it. Sorry guys.
What Custom EQ settings are you guys using with this mod?
This is still the best soundmod available for 4.4.4/.167 in my opinion too.

I confirm it is the best audio mod in term of quality but do you know how I can make the sound louder? which text in mixer_paths responsible for external speaker loudness?

Ive been trying to figure that out too. I did notice the volume is extremely loud for me on the top setting already. I think i just used the mixerpath file out of your package though (i had been playing with the other two or three that were posted on here by okolos and the soundmod 3.1 and the revolution one but all three didnt do anything better for me, or constantly FCed whenever id try to use their dsp settings). Sorry.

Yes, it is loud but my brother's note 3 is still louder so I'm trying to match
Unless the note has waterproof external speakers as well that is likely never going to happen.
