[Q] How to restore japanese keyboard layout?' - Asus Transformer TF701

Hi, I bought a tf701t and flashed sdbags's rooted stock, but i can't find japanese keyboard layout in the settings. A lot of the keys don't match now.
Also, i seem to have lost the ime. (Fskaren?)
I assumed that japan was included in the ww sku so i didn't bother to backup the original rom. (So dumb of me...)
Is there any way to restore japanese input?
Am i out of luck?
Thanks.

You are out of luck But in luck as I understand Japanese so can probably put it back in ONLY IF Asus released a Japanese 4.3 rom? Did they?
Otherwise use shimebi or some other such japanese ime input app form the store for now. fskaren might be avaiable too.

I called up Asus to ask about their roms, but all I got was attitude. :-/
So then I started looking for ime apps like you said, and I found this blog:
hxxp://blog2.k05.biz/2012/10/androidbluetoothusb.html
That led me to this app:
hxxps://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.repy.android.FullKeyboard
I think it's even better than the stock ime! 日本語入力ばっちり!!
Thanks for your help!

you do not need to remove the stock samsung keyboard.
Download this to you pc, unzip it. Copy both files to your device.
At your device go to the folder where you copied the to files, install them both.
Go to settings -> Locale and text -> check HTC_IME mod is selected.
Now go into some application where you can write somethins, for example sms. Touch the writing filed and hold it until a menue pop´s up, touch "Input method" and now select HTC_Ime mod.
Done.
They should mod this so you can still keep the samsung keyboard
Thank you very much, very helpful

But you keep the Samsung Keyboard!
You mean you are not using swype!? What heresy is this! Lol

Not everyones native language is english, german or french ;-)
I don't know which ROMs you use but Swype on my phone has just about every european language you can look for.
That's just not true for my device. There is no bulgarian, no slovenian no serbian for example.
Using jg1.
Bulgaria and slovenia are even in the european union.
I love the HTC keyboard, it is so much better than the Samsung one, also I used swype for about a week and I just didn't see the big advantage but that's just my opinion.

Swype I find awful, I've given it some time but it's so restrictive especially when dealing with URLs and email address etc
I've heard that this should be better since it has the multitouch thing where you can hold one button (letter) down and still type.
Droid X Keyboard Port.

I have just tested this droid keyboard and it is much better than htc becouse of multitouch support. Too bad its doesnt have my national letters included so i cant use it.

Has anyone noticed that the built-in samsung keyboard also has multi-touch? Press down a letter, and you can still type. It doesn't seem to work for Shift + a key, but it is still multi-touch
I've been using the vlingo keyboard and I like it a lot.

Yeah that's true but all other keyboards are just as bad for that so I don't see why that little inconvenience should rob you of the great experience swype gives for all other purposes.

Yes, I have noticed this... but shift+letter works for me, too!

True, but it works for one letter only; so you can't press shift to type a whole word like you can on the Droid X keyboard.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place. (REQUEST)

Hi,
This looks like a very helpful website and I have a tricky objective that I wondered if anyone here could help me with.
My wife bought a Note 4 (N910G) and she would really like to have a few options that aren't available on the stock Telstra firmware.
She is Japanese and would really like to have the stock dictionary from a Japanese note 4.
and also the Japanese language isn't available on the default N910G
Is this the place I can request help with things like this?
or is there a place I can request custom roms?
or is there a place I can learn to take bits and pieces from other firmwares?
I started a tutorial but I can'T find the firmware for the Japanese release note4.
and I don't know where to even start.
Is there even a way to just add more languages to the default phone language dictionary ?
I'm sorry if this isn't in the correct forum, I'm off to search a bit more.
on a side note I also have a note 4 N910U and that actually has the japanese language available by default but does not have English to Japanese dictionary by default.
The dictionary I am referring to is the one that pops up when you highlight things in the default samsung browser and such.
Thanks again for any help

Thanks for that suggestion.
I didn't know I could do that.
it helped change the default language, but I allready loaded a Rom that had Japanese enabled so that wasn't/isn't the problem I am trying to solve now.
All I want to be able to do now is highlight something and use the default samsung dictionary to look up words in Japanese and translate them both ways. eng-jp and jp-eng
also the auto correct is crazy bad.
if a word is typed in Japanese the suggested words are often wrong and if a mistake is made it doesn't fix it,
hard to explain but my wife really can't use this phone the way it is.
Is there a way to get the full Japanese firmware and flash it onto the n910g? or N910U?
I searched, but no luck. I think there is no way to flash offical japanes firm for 910g or 910u coz japan model has different model number. The other things i cant help you.

Yeh I can't even find the firmware for the Japanese models on sammobile..
its really annoying. I wish I had the time to learn how to take firmwares apart and take the bits and pieces from one and move them to something useful.
I started trying to learn but considering I rooted my first android less than 24 hours ago, its a bit daunting still.
maybe another region has the Full English to Japanese dictionary built in to the firmware?
Brazil has quite a large Japanese speaking community.
its not that I really need the dictionary. its that if I know the firmware has that dictionary built in then I know it can be used to type and auto correct properly.
also if this all doesn't work. do I have to mention that a phone has been rooted when I sell it?

I found the problem... in japan offical only just the note edge realised.
Try search sc-01G firmware, download it and extract/copy what you need i think its a working way coz the note edge has a very similar libs.
And yes when you sell your note 4 they see it rooted before, but in my country the rooted note 4 has the absolute similar price then non rooted.
Sorry my bad english its not my native language and i dont use so much.
Edit: s translator from galaxy app market has jap-eng and eng-jap.

thats a cool translator thanks. The awesome thing about the built in dictionary is that it doesn't use data when translating.
I appreciate your help, So I will get the note edge firmware and then
I'll have a look at that firmware but I have no clue how to extract the dictionary and files i need.
does anyone know What I need to extract and how to go about doing it?
seems like I'd have trouble figuring out where on the Edge firmware I would find what I want.
but I guess after that I could just copy it to the same place in the N910G firmware..
but then do I need to change some other string or something so it knows it is there?
I just know someone here could do this sort of thing before their morning coffee, please let them read this.

[Q] adding display language to amazon fire tablet

Hi all
Today I have received amazon fire tablet, and to my disappointment there is no my native Polish language.
Is there a chance to add other languages somehow without flashing cutom rom? Or is custom rom my best bet?
Thank you
From what I've seen about other Amazon devices I wouldn't hold your breath expecting them to add more languages. Can use the keyboard but system languages have always been limited.

The closest I've been to with Greek is Locale2 from playstore which changed some of the system dialogs, and at least all user-installed apps respect that.

thanks! I remembered there is this kind of software out there!
Translation to Polish works fine although not all elements are translated.

Yeah, although software as such does exist your best bet would probably be to flash a ROM that has actual supported translations so to not encounter any parts not being translated.

Can I change a US Home into a UK Home?

I imported a US Home and I am interested in changing it into a UK Home. I am assuming the hardware is the same....
Thanks in advance.
Yeah hardware is the same.
It's with the Google account you going to use.
I am even using the Google home in India.
So no issues with the import.
Same, using a US one in the Netherlands. While I do prefer British over American English, I did choose to set mine to American as the UK voice doesn't use Wavenet for its text to speech yet, so it sounds more robotic.

Flash? XD
You can just change the language in the settings, so when Dutch arrives you can of course just change the language of the Google home to Dutch.
Resurrecting this oldish thread, got both my Home and mini speakers from the US and was thrilled when it finally was released officially here in Sweden and tried to switch over to swedish from US English without much luck.
Swedish doesn't even show up as an option yet in language settings in the Google home app so hopefully it's just not fully implemented and I even reached out to Google for some clarification without much luck (surprise)
So I'm not fully convinced it's just enough to switch language due to the fact it says specifically that the country code on the devices firmware is set to US...
Might need to order a "swedish" mini to check firmware info to compare releases.

Im actually on the xz2 compact but their q&a seems dead.
Installed the apk, went to lang and settings to enable it. It gave me a pop up saying it wont be enabled till the screen is unlocked.
Does it let u reply from the lockscreen? Or do u have to unlock?
Also u guys think this is better the Gboard for privacy? (Credit card details and passwords)
Oh yes, I've just tried the 8.1.A.0.12 version and it doesn't work on XZ2, the latest one that works for me is 8.0.A.0.110. But in apkmirror, you could find that .110 version there.
