[Q] Poor focus on camera? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I'm just curious, is this normal quality for HTC One pictures?
It seems like my camera can't focus properly (especially in broad daylight), which is sometimes very annoying.
Do I need to trick with settings?
When I see pictures from when I first bought the One, it does seem like it took better pictures, but there has always been this "unsharpiness".
It looks like every other picture which I've seen in here, tests and such takes better pictures than mine
Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance

This happens to my HTC one as well, did you fix it ??

Very low camerda quality

Hi guys
the camera quality of this phone is terrible, the image are always affected by blurry effects and low details and much noise.
Is it normal ?
There's a FIX for this ?
SW or HW issue ?
Thank U
No fix for now...

When I had my Lg p990 I was also trying to investigate the reason of the bad camera quality.
Then I read somewhere: Better have a goo quality camera with lesser MP then have a ****ty quality camera with higher MP.
My Nokia N95 8GB with 5 MP took better photos vs LG o2x P990 8 MP.
Another deal-breaker, I was actually thinking in buying p880.....
Thank you for saving me
We're relying on LG to fix this one.
By the sound of things it's a good camera that has been badly configured.
Ksekhar has done all that he can here, but the frustration got the better of him and he's abandoned the device.
Can't say I blame him.
Can't a third party camera app fix this?
I think that only changing lenses

..yes. It doesn't have overly advertised and expensive bloatware on it that drains the battery in a day no matter what you do. Never mind force you to use some proprietary solution to transfer any files onto it, while making it impossible to use external storage media
The camera default settings just aren't calibrated very well. If you turn down the exposure time so the "correction" algorithms don't try to mesh two completely different pictures, it's no worse or better than any other camera with a plastic lens.
Seriously, though -- how much do you guys think the camera modules in these phones actually cost?
It's not just bad calibration - its bad hardware. I attached sample shots of my old galaxy s2 and the lg optimus 4x hd.
As you can see, the galaxy s2 image is MUCH sharper and clearer - especially at the edges and the color reproduction is far better as well. That's not just bad calibration ...

But pretty sure the iso speed is the same on all those pictures.. If you try with the other presets, some custom fiddling, or just use the snap-function while filming -- you won't get the same blur in the picture.
So.. conclusion: the profiles probably would have worked perfectly fine on a super-steady hand, a tripod, and perhaps also in a world where light travels at the speed of sound or so.
(btw, not making the point that the camera is awesome. Just saying that you're not going to take very good pictures with a camera like this no matter what. It is, however, possible to take reasonably good mobile phone pictures - on this camera, just like any other mobile phone camera.)

@UIQrules: Actually I leant onto something when I took those picture - and I took 20 or so on the LG and chose the best. There is no way you can get the same results like with the Galaxy S2. There is better hardware in use with the Samsung phone. It has nothing to do with software configuration.
Acutally I think the Galaxy S2 pictures are pretty awesome - even by a compact camera point of view. The LG is fine for me, because I don't need the camera very often, but I can see why someone would change for another phone, because of all those high-end smartphones out there, the Optimus 4X probably takes the worst pictures.
*nods* agree with that.
But yeah, noticed the same thing. As steady as possible, and still getting the weird blur, even at close range and perfect lighting. Then I took a few "speed" shots, at the same resolution, and it went away. So I don't know what it is, but I suspect it has something to do with the way the picture buffers are used. Amazing that it would go through qa, of course, no doubt about that. It is, like you say, something you notice right away.

I've noticed that when you're viewing it to take it, it's really really grainy. But if you take the picture the actual photo looks much better. Seems like a software glitch. I've seen it happen in dark conditions on the main camera once.
Have you noticed that the photo itself turns out better than the view finder?

[Q] How to get this camera to make good pictures

Howdy! I've got this phone for 3 days now. One of the main reasons to choose this one, is the camera. It should give stunning pictures, right? Wrong.
I can't for the love of me get even one good picture. Each and every one is either out of focus, distorted in some way, or it looks like there's not enough light (even when the picture is taken outside).
I started out with the automatic mode. What I dislike there, is that it never chooses the max. resolution. Manual mode, I can't get it to make good pictures either; though that might be because of lack of expertise.
Is my device broken? Am I doing something wrong? Help would be appreciated.

Thank you for your reply. I'm currently on the newest firmware. I'm running RomAur v3.2. I had the same problem on a different modified stock ROM of the latest firmware build.
I only know for good light condition, you set the ISO to as low as possible and 20mp manual and need a pair of steady hands. I still havent figure out low light condition, some ppl suggest twilight mode.
1. manual mode. the automode is bull****
2. fullsize. you can resize after the shooting^^
3. let the iso as low as possible. remember that the image becomes a little brighter than in the preview. use flash if its dark
i dont have any problems with the camera, even if taking pictures of moving obejcts in dark conditions. just stop shaking your hands and geht the iso lower^^

This is with bad lighting (Sun was shining at the cam), a view from my window. Is this the quality I should expect from this phonecam?
Inside, it's never sharp. There simply seems to be too little light to make sharp pictures. The flash does nearly nothing. The low ISO setting makes it lag very much as well, reducing the screen fps to 3 or something like that. I guess it's difficult for the device to keep up.

there are two apps much better than FV-5
1) Pro Capture: More details. Sharper pictures. aiding grid to get great shots. (but you can't manage ISO level and the max resolution is 8MPX)
2) Camera Zoom FX: Faster focus. More MPX option (18MPX resolution is available)

Then my device is broken. I tested a few shots next to a Galaxy Note 3, and it made much (MUCH) better pictures than my Z1. Tried all kinds of settings, no way to make it right. So mine must be ****. I'm getting it exchanged because of a lazy pixel anyway, but I'm really disappointed in Sony here. I thought they made quality products. :x

Mmm, can you explain me better auto mode? Do you selected a scene? Do you select single focus point or multi point?
Metering? (Can you explain this)
HDR or image stabilizer?
Do you use the hardware button to take pictures or the software one? I noticed that using the hw one after you press focus and then more to shoot produce a little movement that can make your photo bad. Am I the only one that find the camera button too hard?
Thanks a lot!!!!

Camera artefact

There's is an artefact of specific shape right in the center of the image, when objects of specific pattern are captured.
The artefact is most visible, when the vivid colour mode is selected, and almost invisible (but still existing), when shooting with normal colour mode. It's invisible in b/w, and I've never seen it on objects not having a textile-like pattern.
A crop of one my photos (vivid colours) is attached.
Other owners' photos (in russian, need to expand the spoilers via (+) sign):

Looks like the problem is software-related, because people haven't noticed any artefacts in raw images, for example.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention!
I've checked several patterns en direction of that pattern but it seems to be OK on my 10 pro. I also checked a hundred or so other photo's, all clear afaic.

Maybe, your patterns dont suite Anyways, at least 3-4 people did notice it. Its really hard to see, if taking a photo with normal colors, and easier to see, if using vivid colors mode. Btw, I've tried to take a photo of the image that I attached from my monitor, and in vivid colors its possible to get the mentioned artefact - though rather difficult.

Did you look at the attachment?) Idk what every camera with multiple lenses has, but I doubt that lenses can produce an artefect having a rhomb shape.

Ah, sorry, misread. Anyway, the artefect doesn't seem to be normal and common to cameras.
I noticed the same artefact on my device while I was taking photos of a phone case for sale..anyone mentioned a solution or workaround?
The best thing would be to make Huawei aware of this asap. Tweet them, email them. Etc. It won't be fixed if they aren't aware it's an issue.

That's an issue with Flickr. Not sure why, but from a phone they dont upload full res I think. Lightroom mobile is used by me for all photos. You should try it, the free version of Lightroom mobile is excellent, one of the best at straightening a shot even if its just 0.1 adjustment.

really bad on Honor Play was working good and only a bit of settings modify was needed! Night Sight was working too but with artefacts on shadows.
Yeah Huawei / Honor now is like Apple, totally closed system ( only way to unlock is to pay a lot of money )
kirin is a custom and closed source, not supporting camera api2 stock that is needed for FULL mode gcam to work, gcam was born for google pixel on qualcomm board. Ports on Exynos and Kirin are only partially working, can't fully benefit of gcam.
For modding better stick with Qualcomm CPU and an unlockable phone with easy ( like xiaomi, oneplus )
That way I am waiting for selling this phone and get xiaomi . never back to huawei

Moto G6 plus... My nephew have one and in some situations camera is better than Mate 20 Lite's one. Its a Qualcomm device so will be able to install gCam for alternative. Its decent phone general.
Other than that Mate 20 Lite is not bad at all. Camera is good especially in pro mode on low levels iso, around 125-250, takes crisp and detailed photos. Most of the time i use spot metering and auto wb. Shutter speed depending. Have good burst mode also. Its a aspherical lens and takes nice pleasant colors. Great resolution, 20mpx are great to crop images. Its not exactly "Point and shoot" type camera if you need such. You must play bit with settings to get maximum of the sensor but to me is good enough. Video is not something that is important to me. Its a 1080p 60/30fps recommend to stay with 30fps bcoz have EIS. Generally it take some time to me, to get accustomed with camera but now i enjoy it! Take time to search and try different devices, read and watch reviews and pick right for you needs to avoid disappointment...
