Menu icon missing on app on S5 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

Tried loading Lorex Mobile Lite on new S5 today. App appears to load fine. When I run it splash screen shows up then blank screen with "No DVR set up hit menu> add connection. There is no menu button anywhere on screen. Running 4.4.2 The same app on my wife's Nexus 7 tablet running 4.4.2 shows a menu button to right of the return button on bottom of screen an then works correctly. Any idea how to get menu button to show up or atleast get into menu?

I've run into this on a few apps. no settings menu icon in the app, no settings menu to the left of to the home key...
if you press and hold the multi tasking button the settings menu will come up.

Tried that. The app was not offered as on option to open in multi mode.

open the app you are trying to access the settings menu of.
press and hold the button to the left of the home button.
the settings menu of that app will then open.
pressing and holding what used to be the settings button still functions as the old settings button.

Accessing menu suggestion

Is their an option on the N4 to show the menu options on the screen? I know i can drag the menu icon to my home screen. but im looking for a quick way to access the menu settings.
Holding down the left "recents app" button down should bring up the respective menu on whatever screen you are currently on.

[Q] How to diable long press of menu button showing options menu?

Hi,
I have a Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 tablet and developed an Android app which shows a webview in fullscreen mode, so no title bar in the app is visible.
The app also consists of an options menu. My problem is that a long press on the tablets menu button ( the button left to the home button) shows the option menu. The options menu should be only opened by a Javascript function I call in my webview.
Since the user should only see / work with the webview I want to disable accessing options menu by long pressing menu button. How can I disable this?
Thanks a lot...

Any way to activate menu without three dots?

I believe this has something to do with new Android system.
I have some older apps like nbpro or simple task switcher that don't have three dots. Is there any way on tab s2 to remap an existing key to menu key? For example, long press switching or long press home will activate menu?
I found that I can have more settings key by activating assistant menu under accessibility. Assistant menu is a cyan circle, once tapped, it explodes to show further onscreen keys. To able to assign more settings to a key off the screen or to a gesture would be nice. I am not ready to root my tab s2 yet. Or else using xposed would be handy.
Long press the back button. It brings up settings/menu
Long press back key does work sometimes.
In some app like nbpro, the menu, more options appear when I hold back key after lo press. When I release after the long press the more options disappear. It sometimes does not register very well. I don't know if it is something to do with the app or something to do with the system.

Is there a hack to use phone in car mode?

While phone is connected to car I can only open apps with notifications (by dragging a top bar). Is there a way to get to home screen?
On my phone you can press the recent button then press another app and home

There is no recent button on mine
Anyway I want to get to home screen, not just recent apps.

how do you access "menu" in apps now?

on my note 7 you'd long press recent apps, and it would bring up menu, how do you access the menu button now? I came across an app today that didn't have an onscreen software menu button and couldn't figure out where Samsung buried the menu button this time.
thanks!
I only have one app that I use that is like that, on my Note 5 long pressing the back button brought up the menu. I use the same version app on my Note 8 but on the Note 8 to the right of the back button 3 dots appear to bring up the menu. I tried the long pressing the back button anyway but it doesn't do anything. That's the only app that I use where I have ever seen the 3 dots appear to the right of the back button, so far anyway.
really so it just appeared for you in that app on its own?
interesting, it isn't in my app. surely there's a way to toggle menu tho right? Samsung didn't completely remove it did they?
Yeah, I didn't do anything, it just appears on it own. Screenshot attached showing the 3 dots & the menu that it brings up.
There is another way but it's kind of annoying. Go to settings>accessibility>dexterity & interaction, then enable assistant menu. It'll put a round button on the screen, opening that & holding down the back button will bring up the hidden menu. That's the annoying part but at least you can move the button around to anywhere on the screen.
That's the weird part, long pressing the back button in that assistant menu will bring up the hidden menu just like it did for my Note 5 but long pressing the actual back button on my Note 8 doesn't do anything.
WOW, that assistant menu trick actually worked... dude that's genius, thanks! I only needed the menu for a second to adjust an important setting, can't thank you enough!

No problem. Glad it worked out for you! That's actually how I had to do it on my Note 5. There was some kind of glitch, even though the back button brought up the menu, as soon as I released the back button the menu would disappear sometimes. Using the assistant menu was the only other way I could do it.
