CWM Flash help - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi , i need a little advice on this n-7000 issue please, heres the background.
Bought phone from ebay£100 working fine with a german DBT rom installed( was a german phone as it was main language on reset)
Used fine for 3 weeks except buying better battery.
Flashed philz cwm6 5.08.5 giving me root and 6.0.3.3, alls well.
Tried to upgrade via odin to a 4.4 cwm but fails so i di it through a zip and starts bootloop, wipe reboot no good still the same.
Reload stock via odin, passes but still loops, efs error.
I had somehow wiped the efs folder and not knowing what an efs folder was didnt have a backup so after 9 hours of reading, flashing back to gb and then rooting to make sure the efs was empty via ktool and explorers it was off to samsung after a stock jb via odin to go back to bootloop.
Thankfully phones just in warranty so new pda and usb and they flash it with LT9XEU.
So i have it back root with Philz-cwm6-XXLT9-ORA-5.08.5-signed(does the orange make it an issue on an open device?)and it works fine and runs fine and i back up the efs folder to a million places with 3 different programs.
Problem i have is, i want a 4.4 rom like most people but i cannot get a cwm with selinux support to run on this phone...heres what i have tried,
Installing philz_touch_6.26.6-n7000 on top of the 1st cwm which gives me black screen after 1st logo not getting to samsung one, but if i boot straight into recovery it does tell me im on 6.0.4.8.
Tried to install philz_touch_6.26.6-n7000 from scratch but get error status 7 in /tmp/(cant remeber)/package.zip.
Tried to install raw_kernel_r4_j43 before asylum rom install but this failed on signature.
That was last night and i thought id ask before trying anything else.I have reflashed stock back on this 6-7 times in 24 hours trying to sort this but im going round in circles.
I can flash the rom in odin no problem but never a recovery file it fails everytime.
Is it as simple as you have to install the 4.4 rom after new cwm as the old jb cant handle it hence the black screen or is there something else i need to do, any help is most welcome as after avoiding a £200 repair bill for a £100 phone i continue with some trepidation, many thanks all.

What's the current situation? Are you able to get into recovery? If yes, what's the recovery?

The phone is running as normal, stock rom and recovery...left it like that after fresh install last night.
Running N7000XXLT9_N7000OXXLT3_XEU with its stock recovery

So if you want to install kitkat, flash Philz kernel first to get Cwm.. Then flash raw kernel.. Reboot into recovery and wipe and install kitkat rom.

Thank you, doing it in that order worked for me,so many threads its hard to find clarity...i thank you for your time.

I am hoping to flash Kit Kat 4.4.4 via Omni ROM . To do this I believe I need to load a ClockworkMod-Recovery - WITH SELINUX SUPPORT which is why I am trying to flash philz_touch_6.12.8-n7000.tar.md5. It fails everytime. If I flash an older version of Philz I understand it won't be compatible with Kit Kat 4.4.4. Is that correct?
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks very much for your help.
I am fairly new to all this and a bit nervous about screwing up and bricking my phone. However, the fact that your reply is succinct, gives me confidence that you advised on this problem before and your method works. I don't understand everything you have listed but I am sure I can find the answers to all I need in this forum.
A couple of things
1) A Raw5 or 6 kernel is available, should i go for one of these. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397000.
2) At what point do I backup so I can recover if things go wrong and how would I do this backup. My phone is not rooted yet.
I appreciate your time. Thank you.
The instructions I was originally trying to follow were these.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2780703
2. Installation procedures
If you are on the stock Jelly Bean/ICS Samsung firmware:
-Download Philz kernel and copy it to your SD card
-Download a KitKat ROM and copy it to either your internal or external memory
-Download PA-Google Apps and copy it to either your internal or external memory
-Download Raw Kernel r5 and copy it to either your internal or external memory
-Reboot to recovery by holding down volume up, power and home button at once until you are in recovery mode
-Flash Philz kernel
-Go to "Mounts and Storage" and format /system, /data, /preload
-Reboot to recovery again by going to "advanced", "reboot to recovery" or by holding down volume up, power and home button at once until you are back in recovery mode
-Flash Raw Kernel
-Reboot to recovery again
-Flash your ROM
-Flash PA-Google Apps
-Reboot

You have a XXLT9 Rom so search in PhilZ Thread for such a Kernel. You can also use a similar one like lt6, lt4, lta. With this Kernel you can root your phone and get a custom recovery in one step. Now you can make a nandroid of your current rom.
Now time for kk. Flash Raw4/5 Kernel and follow the instructions you wrote.
If you want to go back flash Philz Kermel and after thst recover your nandroid backup of your stock rom.

Thanks for your last reply. This all makes sense to me now.
I have found a PhilZ-cwm6-XXLT9-ORA-5.08.5-signed.zip file so I reckon I'm ready to go with these instructions.
Take care and cheers.... John

Should work and good luck...

My Galaxy Note GT-N7000 was on CM10 last night and I followed Zedomax's rootgalaxynote.com GT-N7000 unrooting method and when I was installing the Mobile Odin Lite on my phone, it said it needs to download more add-on to be able to flash it, then all the sudden my internet connection was down, so I couldn't download it, but followed his instruction and tried wipe and factory reset, but it got stuck at formatting (no progress), then I flashed cm9 again, but it was stuck at cm9 boot logo, nothing else. the ever GOLDEN RULE: Don't ever ever attempt to WIPE data if your on a unsafe or on a stock ICS kernel. That's should be at the top of your list before you do anything on your phone. If you need to WIPE, make sure your already in a safe kernel or if you haven't still, then flash one.
Now going back on your perennial issue. The only thing you can and will do is FLASH a stock GB on download mode using PC ODIN. Yes Doc Ketan's thread/s have those old GB's ROM.. -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997, follow it to a tee.
One added thing when your going to start to flash GB again... Pray, that it would not stuck back again at 'factoryfs.img'
Good luck bud!

Can you get the Note into Download mode?
If so, try using desktop Odin (latest desktop version not mobile version) and flash the Abyss 4.2 kernel. the Tar file is easily found on XDA. This is a GB kernel and should allow you to get into full Recovery. From there you can flash a new ROM as you are now on a safe kernel.
Tried that, but not sure about the latest desktop version.

Hi, thank you for your message, I was on Abyskernel when I factory data reset, and tried to flash back to cm9 from cm10, but no luck. Then I used Odin3-v1.85 on desktop with Gingerbread Rom, it got stuck at factoryfs.img.. I have tried with different pc disabling firewall and anti virus. What is the latest desktop version of Odin that you know? What specific tar file do you know that is the best? Thank you again.

your CM10 to CM9 downgrade sounds like a bad flash, it can happen. I would try Odin3 V3.05 with Abyss (search for "AbyssNotekernel42CWTouchOriginalLogo.tar" or go here - https://www.dropbox.com/s/yoe791qq3atbung/AbyssNotekernel42CWTouchOriginalLogo.tar).
this should allow you to install a safe kernel to flash from. if you can now access Recovery, then you can flash a ROM from there. I would use a Stock based one (I always recommend Chrack ROM or Criskelo), If you prefer, you can download a Stock tar file and use Odin but I would try downloading the latest Chrack ROM or Criskelo ROM, transferring it to your micro SD and flashing after you have installed the Abyss tar.
I hope this helps. Please hit Thanks if it did.

Yes, the Abyss tar file is for use with Odin. install Odin on your PC, put the Note into Download and connect. Flash the tar file and wait for the Note to reboot (search for notes on how to flash with Odin if you're not 100% sure). you should now be able to use Recovery to flash a ROM from this safe kernel.
Just a quick question.

.tar file is to be flashed with odin directly. It has an image inside and should not extract it. Should put the .tar file in one folder but not on desktop screen. Select pda box in odin and brow to the folder where you put .tar file. Should see it there.
BTW, if flash using CWM failed again, then should use hg42 scanner to check if there is partition damage.

It seem to show you have an emmc brick, although using the partition scanner will confirm. The options are to send to ss service for warranty or to revise using repartition. For warranty you will need to reset flash counter using a jig.

Hi bro,
I flashed the Abysskernel again and it went to Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 logo with big Triangle at the bottom and it then goes to Android system recovery <3e>, then it looks like there is no option for me to access the SD card, but its own 16GB storage it came with and that one has CM10 in it. Tried to flash that, but it says "E:failed to verify whole-file signature". If I attempt to claim for warranty will Samsung know that I rooted it after clearing the binary counts? Please let me know. Thank you for your instructions. If there is anything else you want me to try out, please let me know. Thank you.

[Q] Galaxy Note doesn't go beyond logo and stuck at Downloading.. PLZ HELP :(

Hello all,
I read now the warning post and I understand now that probably I shouldn't have done it (so please be gentle ).. however maybe someone can still help me with my situation:
I've rooted my Galaxy Note with ClockworkMod recovery successfully and then busybox.
Then I went to recovery mode again (after restarting the phone), however it loaded Android regular recovery mode (not Clockwork), so I installed Clockwork again and without restarting performed WIPE DATA (maybe that was also a mistake?). After it was finished it restarted by itself and now its in the following status:
- stucks at GALAXY NOTE N7000 logo. Sometimes blinks, but never goes beyond it.
- Recovery mode exactly same - stuck at logo.
- when plugging USB it will show the battery, but it's like stuck then.
- Tried download mode, but it's stuck at Downloading... forever.
I couldn't find the exact case as mine, that it restarted by itself and stuck at logo now.
I backed up everything, the previous ROM and etc.
I am aware of the bricking bug of ICS, however I had the ClockworkMod installed, so what did I do wrong??
And most importantly, what should I do now? Can I do something via the download mode? I don't think Odin recognizes any connected device when I plug in the USB, but I don't know how to check if it does or not..
Thanks in advance!
Switch to download mode, connect to PC and install a stock JB (be sure to install the USB drivers before).
Make a snapshot of the errors an post it here.

I don't understand this.. my stock ROM was:
Baseband Version: N7000XXLB2
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-N7000XXLC1-CL1003701 [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XXLC1
I don't know what coutnry, I bought it from Netherlands, I live in Belgium, but it could be from any country in the region!
I cannot find this one exactly. I find many with N7000XXLB2 and many with N7000XXLC1.
Which one should I choose?
Also, can I install a JB or ICS directly?
Please let me know I'm doing it right (cause this is getting really insanely ridicilous):
1. I install PhilZ recovery mode via the phone recovery mode.
2. I install a stock ROM (I tried many) via Odin download mode.
All the time stuck as Galaxy N7000 logo. Never goes past it.
Every time I install a stock ROM it also removes the Philz recevory mode, but maybe that's ok..
Anything I'm doing wrong??
Why don't you follow my advice from second post and then show us a snapshot of PC Odin.
No need for Philz when installing a stock Rom with PC Odin (it's always deleted).
And tell us what Rom you install.

So I don't wipe anything and just go to download mode and install a PDA file of a STOCK ROM, that's it?
I tried that, but now I will be more specific (and in another guide they say to do some steps before, so its very confusing already).
I also asked above how do I know which ROM I should install?
and also, how do I get errors log? there were no errors when I was installing the PDA..

Ok, here we go.
I was trying with ROM: N7000XXLC1_N7000OXALC1_N7000XXLB2_HOME.tar.md5
This is what I got from Odin (I hope that's what you meant by snapshot and not actual screenshot or something ):

<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> N7000XXLC1_N7000OXALC1_N7000XXLB2_HOME.tar.md5 is valid.

and it still doesn't boot.. gonna try another ROM now and post here the results.
Now tried with:

No going into recovery mode after restart this time and still same problem.
when you flash a stock rom with pc odin, the phone may not boot. If you have flashed a GB rom then when you are stuck at logo enter stock recovery with three button combo and then wipe data factory reset, wipe cache and then reboot.
I flashed a stock rom as explained above, not a GB. I tried wiping cache and all data through recovery. Nothing helps. You say it might not boot, so how do I make it boot with Stock ROM?
stock roms can be ginger bread (GB), or ICS or JB (jelly Bean)
flash a GB stock rom, wait for the proceedure to finish completely, when you see its not booting then use three buttons to get into stock recovery and then wipe then reboot

I've rooted my Galaxy Note with ClockworkMod recovery successfully and then busybox.
Then I went to recovery mode again (after restarting the phone), however it loaded Android regular recovery mode (not Clockwork), so I installed Clockwork again and without restarting performed WIPE DATA ...
....I am aware of the bricking bug of ICS, however I had the ClockworkMod installed, so what did I do wrong??
Thanks in advance!

By "ClockworkMod" you mean CWM.zip right? This is a temporary recovery that disappears upon reboot. It also LETHAL to wipe with when running on top of a stock ICS kernel.
So to sum up;-
You were running Stock ICS.
You flashed CWM.zip (from YouTube or where ever) from stock 3e recovery and then flashed Root/busybox file.
Booted back into stock recovery, flashed CWM.zip again and performed wipe data/factory reset with it.
How am I going so far?
Bad news - you have most likely superbricked your device.
If so,new MOBO or repartition is only way out now
it might be mess up.. try get 5files wif bootloader n place it accordingly in odin .

Yep, emmc bricked. Send it to servicecenter, they repaired it for free, for me. Or you can do the workaround http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667886 , but i dont would do that, as you will get many freezes maybe. Thats very annoying.

[Q] How to go back to previous ROM version?

Hi everyone,
Long time no see.
I updated the ROM to the latest version last week, i.e. Android 4.1.2, n7000xxlso, kernel version 3.0.31-906407, builder number JZ054K.N7000XXLSZ. This update sucks as it drains my battery very much. In addition, the phone became less responsive possibly due to less 'free space/free memory' left. I would like to go back to my previous version, could anybody kindly advise how I can do that please? My phone is SIM-FREE, I am in England.
Many thanks in advance.
Download your old version and install it. Because you didn't tell us what your old version was, there isn't much help possible, isn't it?
a) Stock version from sammobile, install it with PC Odin
b) Custom Rom: follow the installation instructions in the specific thread.

If you want to go back to this GB version, download it from sammobile.com or here from one of the old Stock Rom threads (please search yourself for it). Install it with PC Odin. If you do not know about this read Dr. Ketans's thread.

Hi ThaiDai, many thanks.
However, I think I may have bricked my note now. I downloaded the official GB ROM (N7000XXLRK---4.0.4/12.07.24-N7000XEULP5---Download--United Kingdom / Ireland), which should be my previous ROM (the one I mentioned in previous post was wrong, I remember I have updated it to ICS). I closely follow the steps suggested by the post, and from Odin I see this info:

Check if you can get into download mode.. If you can try to flash GB this time.. And also do not do any wipes on 4.0.4 in recovery (if can go into recovery mode).. Did you do any wipe on JB before flaahing ICS?

Can get into download mode and recovery mode. I think perhaps I should try the latest JB ROM? Are you able to let me know which GB ROM to use this time?
Many thanks
You can try either JB or GB.. You can find them in dr ketans thread.. If you are installing jb then after flashing make sure to install philz kernel (zip file in stock recovery).. But as you are stuck you might have to do the wipes.. You may download philz kernel for ics corresponding to your firmware and do all the wipes and then flash jb..

Many thanks, my friend.
I notice that the note can be charged thus I guess it is not 100% dead at this stage, it is possible I can save it.
Please could you advise some important steps on how to complete the process of installing an official GB ROM. My note is from O2 UK, ORIGINALLY UNLOCKED, and currently with T-mobile UK SIM card.
Questions:
1. Can I download the latest GERMANY version of GB or JB?
2. I know how to do 'downloading' mode and install ROM via PC Odin, but how to install Philz kernel through 'recovery' mode?
I would be most grateful if you could guide me to the steps for the whole process/steps to complete the ROM installation based on my situation, thanks so much!

Check the this link for downloading stock JB and also for install method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
first you need to put the philz kernel (zip version not tar) on your external memory from here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?3ale6m9q6b6a3
and then go to stock recovery and select install zip and choose the zip file and flash it, reboot to recovery again, do all the wipes and try flashing JB from 1st link.

You need to flash PhilZ kernel 5, odin version.

After flashing stock rom via odin you need to boot into recovery. Then wipe cache and data. It is better to glash Philz kernel odin version after flashing stock rom. Then get to recovery and wipe.

You did not read enough on what is needed to install 4.4.2. Rule of thumb: always read and follow rom flash instruction carefully before you tried to install a new rom!
Btw, Philz Touch recovery will not work now. You need to use Philz Kernel with recovery.
You need to read more to figure these things out before getting yourself into more troubles. If you cannot understand instruction well, then better stay with stock or stock-based 4.12 to be safe. Cheers

From Philz recovery you can do "clean to install rom" then flash a 4.1.2 custom rom. Then you should be good.
If you want 4.4.2 then you need to flash raw4 kernel, then reboot into recovery (not to system) then flash the 4.4.2 rom.
BTW, as I said, read instruction carefully from the rom thread that you want and follow exactly the instruction by the rom dev.

Try with another rom or another download. Do 'clean to install' as I said and also wipe dalvik cache (under advanced menu).

1. downloaded the .zip version of philz and tried to flash it using stock recovery "Update from external storage". When it was updating suddenly phone was getting turned off. Tried two to three times.
2. Also tried the ODIN v1.85 and v3+. downloaded the tar.md5 file matching to n7000, and when tried to flash it using ODIN two times it got struck at "SetupConnection: and 2 to 3 times it got failed. saying

wanted to install the lollipop or kitkat.
Please guide me how to install philz or cmw recovery.
What am I doing wrong, why the philz is not getting flash using ODIN or stock recovery.
I have also tried the "flashify" app. and when flashing philz recovery its saying "Partition flashed successfully" but when going to recovery mode there I find stock recovery. Nothing is working.
you need to flash a custom kernel which includes the recovery. as far as i know it is not possible to flash recovery only with keeping stock kernel. philz provided several kernels for N7000 with appropriate recovery for many different android versions.

Get a philz kernel that matches your ROM build number. In your case its ddlsc. If you don't find that xxlta will also do.
I understand that need to download the kernal. just to confirm is it "Signed" .zip file of philz?
Last time I was rooted with the philz signed .zip file. Root was successfull but recovery was still stock. and when I flash the recovery using CWM App. my phone bricked. it was struck at samsung logo. Some how I flashed the stock rom and my note got a life.
Now this time I am scared to do the same. But still will give a try.
Right now my phone is rooted with supersu. To flash the philz kernal with recovery, Do i have to unroot first and then flash? Or I can flash without unrooting?
Thanks for suppoting. XDA is the good place for anyking of troublesooting and memebers here are best in supporting.
Can you please provide the url from where to download the philz kernal.
You can use the zip or tar file. Zip is preferred. You don't need to unroot.
Thanks you so much. was able to successful install the philz recovery
My phone is bricked due to my friend mistake. As per your suggestion I have downloaded the philz kernel. flashed it and philz recovery was installed. I was so happy, My friend asked to see the phone and I gave him. In my phone the "ClockWorkMod app" was installed from google play. My friend asked me whether he can backup the data or not. I said ok do it. He open the "ClockWorkMode app" and went to backup and clicked on it. it asked for the name of the backup. He have given the name and clicked on the ok button. Suddently phone got turned off and was struck at "Galaxy Note GT N7000" boot screen. I tried to do the power off using power button but again it was getting turned on automatically and getting struck at boot screen. Taken the battery out.
tried to go into recovery mode but was not able to go there. Only download mode is working. I flash the "Philz recovery" using ODIN.
and when reboot the phone got struck at same boot screen with an additional yellow triangle.
Can it be re-cover or it is hard brick? Please suggest something. I have downloaded the stock DDLC tar file from sammobile site. Do I need the partition .pit file? I tried to find out the partition .pit file for 16gb version but all links are broken.
Help me please.

Ouch, try reflashing everything according to the previous instructions again. Remember to clear cache and do a factory reset after that, the Rom Manager aka ClockWorkMode app is kinda useless..
Back to life,
After bricking my phone I was in so much stress. Was thinking all the possible way like re-partition csc etc... then suddenly thought why not flashing the stock rom which is downloaded. Puts the phone in download mode. open the ODIN 1.85 connected the phone with pc and selected the stock DDLSC tar md5 file, taken a deep breath and remembered all the gods and clicked on the start button.
flashing started within 10 min it finished and phone re-booted. back to stock rom without loosing any kind of data. To my surprise all the app which was moved to external card was automatically detected and checked the sd phone memory and all my personal file and data with contacts and messages was available. Once again many many thanks to XDA and all of you.
Again rooted the phone with Philz kernel. LOL.
Can you please help me. How to do nandroid backup and whether it can be flash by ODIN or not.
Make a nandroid backup by booting into recovery and choosing backup. Or use an app like zipinstaller.
No odin cannot flash a nandroid backup. It has to be restored using recovery only.
