[Q] Can you replace the lockscreen? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

Is there a way to replace the default Samsung lockscreen on the Galaxy S5? I'd like to use Dashclock or the new Notify! lockscreen applications, but I can't figure out how to disable Samsung's.

In Settings, Lockscreen, Screen Security, and then tap Screen Lock, choose none.

That will allow me to use another third party lockscreen of my choosing?

The app itself will handle it from there

This procedure does not appear to work. When I disabled Samsung's Lockscreen in the options, there is no option anywhere to let another app take over the task or securing the screen or displaying lockscreen notifications. I tried installing Notify! and DashClock and neither work.

Are the apps supposed to be Lockscreen replacements? If you search the Play Store for Lockscreen replacements you can find a few.

Yes. Both "Notify!" and "DashClock" are lockscreen / lockscreen widget apps that work fine with Nexus and other non-skinned Android devices. My question was how to disable Samsung's Lockscreen AND allow these third-party apps to take control over lockscreen functions, including displaying onscreen notifications and other information.
I've used these kinds of apps many times in the past, so I know what they do and how they function. The question is how to get them working with the Galaxy S5. Do you know how, or were you guessing?

The GS5 lock screen does not allow widgets, not even the 5 shortcuts of TW past. It's ridiculous but not many people are crying about it since they at least left it minimally configured in a nice way.

That is probably for security reasons. For anyone who wants to add widgets, the simple instructions provided by Xandlinger above work fine.

The instructions don't work if you're trying to add lockscreen widgets such as Notify! or DashClock to the phone. I've tried it every which way. It seems the only lockscreen that can be used is the one Samsung provides with their UI.
I was just curious if someone knew a way around that. I guess we may have to wait until we can put a custom OS on the phone.

Can you post a screenshot of your lockscreen with a third party app securing your phone so I can see? I would very much like to make sure we're talking about the same thing.
I think we may be confusing lockscreens with lockscreen widgets.

@spectrumfox you're correct. It literally requires root to put a widget on the phones lock screen, be it via removing whatever their lock screen app is called or a new rom. It infuriates me but I don't hate the stock widget. :|

Yeah, the stock lock screen isn't horrible and I can definitely live with it. I just wish it allowed us more freedom to display data we want on it.

You're telling me, it was a long slow frown that came upon my face as I realized it was not some hidden touchwiz menu, rather a missing feature. Again, for now it's whatever. I've grown to like the simplicity. Imagine being stuck with the "Life Companion" text of the GS4

That's different, nobody likes widgetlocker. Replacing the lock screen is plausible but that's never been a good solution because there is delay, it doesn't always hide the normal lock screen on boot and is just wonky.

[APP] Widgetsoid2.x ... 3rd party Power Control Widget, and more... way more!

Just thought I'd pass this along. Before the NS, I used the hell out of "Extended Controls" ... Sadly, most of the toggles I would have liked to use do not work with the NS (2.3 compatibility issue?). Emailed the dev and got responses right away saying it will be updated next week. Next week came and gone ... came and gone again. Dev is probably behind with RL stuff so sooner or later it will be updated. In the mean time, I found an awesome alternative with more features ... and its free.
Widgetsoid2.X
Highly customizable power control widget ... and can even be configured to add a power control widget from your notification bar drop down.
Yeah I really like widgetsoid. Since cm team still hasn't got the flashlight working I use its flashlight widget inside the notification bar. Works great.

ohh that's a nice find
Odd. Both my wife and I use extended controls fine. I find if you restore it via Titanium, it doesn't work but if you do a fresh install of it, everything functions great. Good find though.

The widget isn't really not put in the notification bar. It puts the image of your widget there but when you click on a power control it brings up the power control in an overlay of your screen where you then select which power control you want to turn on/off. For me (not short on screen space) its no quicker than using regular widget on the screen.
thanks! I've been using extended controls even though it wasn't fully operational w/gingerbread. Just dl'ed widgetzoid and bluetooth works! Liking the vertical option too..
I was really impressed by Widgetsoid and its developer 2 weeks ago. I found a bug, emailed the dev, and got a response in like an hour. Within like 2 hours of emailing him, he tracked down the bug and incorporated a fix into the next release. Now that's service.
we reported it a while ago
http://www.mobiflip.de/2011/01/andr...-benachrichtigungsleiste-einfach-nachruesten/
(p.s. google translate is your friend )
The thing I really like is how easy it is to edit existing widgets. Saves a lot of time if you just want to add or remove something from a power control type bar
the app is good, no doubt, but it's a major pain in the back to configure
some options are no longer available after you hit apply
so if you ever want to change them again, you can't (for example the invisible option, there are a few more that are no longer accessible after it was saved)
and the only alternative is to delete it, and create a new one

Guess that's why I'm sticking with extended controls. Profiles are so easy to edit.
but once you master this App, it's a big treasure chest!
once everything was properly setup and configure, it easily replaced 7+ apps
TeslaLED
tons of On/Off Widgets
Ace Volume
Battery info
crap load of other ones i uninstalled
i setup 4 rows, maybe gonna add 1 more for 5 rows for Apps
that's the nice thing about this app, you can create custom shortcuts to make it launch your most used apps, from the Notification area
i simply love it

Yeah I noticed this too. Was a shame, cause this is the main reason I was after this. I guess this functionality of directly enabling/disabling from the task bar cannot be enabled in stock roms without direct framework changes.

For the data on Nexus S just restaur your apn, check your data is enable and go to global preferences of widgetsoid and check "disable all apn".

Android don't allow event on notifications it's an android limitation not an widgetsoid error/limitation.
On HTC rom it's works directly because HTC have modify android source code to allow this. HTC users are lucky. Next version have an option to disable popup after click on notification.

By using Bettercut, I was able to use custom icons and remove the labels.

I placed my icons on the left and right edges of the screen, given that 99% of the time I am using the Xoom in landscape, allowing easy access with my thumbs.

I've found that Desktop Visualizer absolutely works with Honeycomb, although it's not available through the market yet. If you can find a copy of the app, you'll find it allows for custom sizes for icons and images placed on the homescreen.

What toggle widget is that?
A few other things to note...
When searching for icons, I recommend using 256x256 pngs, the standard icons do not scale well in Bettercut or DV. You'll notice that although the icons are 1x1, they are scaled larger when removing the labels.
As for the wallpaper, I'm sure ou noticed my lack of originality. The truth is, I love this wallpaper. I use it as the wallpaper on my Honeycomb themed G2, my laptop and even my Xbox360.

No issues but when I was trying to set it to one screen only, it force closed on me a couple times. Once I got that set, no issues so far. I like the swipe gesture on the application drawer icon. It brings up your last 16 recent apps instead of the 5 limit using the honeycomb one.

[Q] Apply Nova Settings "Icon Theme" to Lock Screen

I have applied Trickdroid 8.0.0 to my HTC One, and then put the Nova Launcher on top of this.
I have applied the "Stock Jelly Bean" Icon Theme settings to Nova, so that when unlocked, I get these preferred icons.
However, the lockscreen is still running out of Sense UI, I guess, as the default HTC Icons are displayed.
Can I change this?
Additionally, can I alter the default apps on this lockscreen? i.e. I am trying out K-9 Mail instead of both the default HTC mail and Google's stock email, mainly because the latter 2 don't seem to render emails to show the full screen.
I am looking at trying Android Revolution HD as an alternative, that might give me this functionality. Perhaps someone could comment on this as well please?
Thanks
Natively, there is no way to change the lockscreen icons. BUT, there's an app called 'Unicon' in the Play store that lets you use Icon Packs system wide, even in the setting menu. So check that out!
As for changing the icons, the dock actually directly relates to it if you haven't noticed, so change the dock and you change the lockscreen apps.
I'm on ARHD, no special functionality here.
Good luck!

Thanks jikstah
I think there maybe a problem with the nova launcher with this as well... The lock screen displays the default set of icons (phone, messages, lock, Internet and camera) but home screen has my custom setup and I use some different apps for some of these too. Nova also has the ability for scrolling pages of the dock, which might be the cause to the problem?
I will look at unicon as well. Thanks for the tip...
Thanks again
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
The lockscreen uses the icons you have in the Sense dock to decide which icons to display. Nova is powerless.
I just turned off my lockscreen in the settings. It goes straight to nova. Also, I created a custom shortcut to Blink feed, so I get the best of both worlds!
thanks sauprankul
i think you might be right. i tried unicon, and same result.
it would be nice for this infinitely customizable android to be able to do this, while keeping the elements of sense i like (zoe's mainly)
so in your setup, you have zero lock screen items going on then? just rely on notifications instead? how does this occur with incoming calls? and alarms?
thanks
... and there is no alternative lock screen choice that can be made, when running sense? even from trick droid ROM, which still has sense capabilities but they are not turned on by default (i.e. i could do similar to you, and add it as a widget item if i wanted. i dont, btw...)
I have tried the tweak ROM / zip that is linked to the Trickdroid ROM, but reflashing this pack with different options does not seem to make a difference...
Lock screen is either stuck with default HTC Sense functionality or you have to 1st unlock the AOSP lock screen, then you will see the other lock screen underneath.
I am seriously disappointed with this lacking functionality. Taking the shine off all the other bits I'm enjoying about my switch to android...

Uhmmm... you want a lock screen that doesn't lock?
You can't have a lock screen without it actually providing some level of actually locking the screen.
I want the PIN, but I wanted to use WidgetLocker as the lockscreen.
So, like when I press the power button, it opens up the WidgetLocker interface, and when I swipe to unlock it, it brings me up to the screen where I enter my PIN.
I'll try uploading pics in a bit to see if I can explain it better.

That's the default behaviour of WidgetLocker - it layers on top of the lock screen. Just do as the others have mentioned and set your lock screen in the settings to PIN, then install and activate widget locker and it will work exactly like you just mentioned.

I think I figured it out. WidgetLocker gave me a prompt when I booted it up the other day via SuperSU accessing it for root permissions. Either it must of not come up last time I booted it or I was trying to do it while I was unrooted... But the problem is solved.

[ANDROID 5.1+] Lockscreen Widgets

A (very) long time ago, Android introduced a feature to allow you to show certain widgets on the lock screen. For some reason, this useful feature was removed with the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop, confining widgets to the home screen only.
While some manufacturers, such as Samsung, have brought back limited versions of lockscreen widgets, but you're usually limited to the widgets the manufacturer has already created for you.
Well, no more! Lockscreen Widgets brings back the functionality of yore, with some extra features.
- Lockscreen Widgets appears as a paged "frame" on top of your lockscreen.
- Add a widget by tapping the plus button in the frame. This plus button will always be the last page.
- Each widget you add gets its own page.
- You can press, hold, and drag a widget left or right to reorder it.
- Tap the frame with two fingers to enter the editing mode: you resize and move the frame, and remove the current widget here.
- Any home screen widget can be added as a lockscreen widget.
Inside the app, there are a few settings you can change:
- You can make the widget frame's background opaque if you want to overlay lockscreen elements.
- You can have the widget frame hide when there are notifications displayed on the lockscreen.
- You can have the widget frame hide when the notification shade is down. This probably won't work on heavily customized skins like EMUI or MIUI.
- You can have the widget frame hide when the security input view is shown (PIN/pattern/password/etc). This probably won't work on heavily customized skins like EMUI or MIUI.
And this is all without ADB or root! All the necessary privileges can be granted without even thinking about using a computer.
On the topic of privileges, these are the more sensitive permissions that Lockscreen Widgets needs to function:
- Accessibility. In order to display on the lockscreen, Lockscreen Widgets' Accessibility Service must be enabled. You will be prompted to enable it if needed in the initial setup, and any time you open the app.
- Notification Listener. This permission is only required if you want the widget frame to hide when notifications are displayed. You will be prompted if it's needed.
- Dismiss Keyguard In order to improve the user experience, Lockscreen Widgets will dismiss the lock screen (or show the security input view) when it detects an Activity being launched from a widget, or when you press the "Add Widget" button. This will not compromise your device's security in any way.
And that's it. Don't believe me? Lockscreen Widgets is open source! The link is at the bottom.
Lockscreen Widgets only works on Android Lollipop 5.1 and later because the necessary system features for displaying on the lockscreen didn't exist in Lollipop 5.0. Sorry, 5.0 users.

I am trying out this app but I am not quite sure how it works.
I have Live Wallpaper on. As soon as the AOD disappears and my lockscreen shows up, I see a small popup window or prompt flicker and then it just disappears.

I think that it is an issue with Samsung's dual layer lockscreen.
I have uninstalled the app but will monitor it for updates that will work with Samsung phones.
What's that weather widget called that you are showing there? Also how do I move the widget elsewhere I can't seem to figure it out
Edit: Figured out the editing, but could you please tell me what Weather widget is please?
Widget overlays phone screen
Hi,
I used the app and is wonderful. To have this features with all the restrictions put in new android versions is awesome!
I noticed one issue. I set up a widget on the lockscreen. When a call is received (with the phone locked) the phone's caller ID screen ahd all the dialer options there is overlayed by the widget. Thereby any touch interactions only apply to the widget and not to the caller screen. Since phone calls are the only thing that works with the phone locked, I assume this issue is with only this scenario.
Is there a way to fix this? Can you please check from your end too?
Thanks!
Sammukh
Love this so far.
I'm trying to add a KWGT to my LS. It tells me I need to set it up, which I can't do via the lock screen. Any ideas?
Can I get a promo code? This looks promising..
Hello.
After installing the application and giving it the necessary permissions and going to the lock screen there is no add button.
How to add a widget ?
Thank you.

Hello , before I buy it is there any way to tell me if this works in Xiaomi MIUI mi8 ?
Thank you
Any promo codes left?
Bought it & the idea is very good but have to eventually refund coz the widget layer keeps popping on my ambient display (on my OnePlus device) as well as the password input screen & it just keeps bugging me...Would definitely buy/install the app again when this issue is fixed.
Bought it but like others have said, had to refund because the widget wouldn't resize.

Hey great job! Looking to buy this. Does this work on MIUI 11?
Does it work on EMUI 10?
It's nice that someone does something and there are effects, but when buying the application I do not know if it works and who I want to ask for a refund because it is not a fortune.

There is no concrete info in the PlayStore description about EMUI: "This probably won't work on heavily customized skins like EMUI or MIUI."
