Here you have a great thread with all the information you need, read it carefully twice and then follow it

First thing you will need to do is to upgrade to Gingerbread. Here is the link on how to install stock rom using odin along with all firmwares and drivers (check the "Preparations" section),
Flash stock rom on Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 using odin
If your PC cannot recognize the phone, its usually the drivers. Once installed, go to recovery mode (Power off and then hold Home+ Power button) and do a wipe data/ factory reset & wipe cache (otherwise bootloop might occur). Then restart. Now you have successfully flashed the stock rom. Here is the link for rooting and installing CWM 5 on Samsung Galaxy Ace,
How To Root and Unroot Samsung Galaxy Ace?
CWM 5.0.2.6 fix for Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830
If you are interested in installing the CM 11 KitKat rom, then you can try KitKat for all by @Salim El Yabouri which can be installed from CWM 5. While all other KitKat rom requires you to have CWM 6 which is kinda unstable. Here is the link,

Official 2.3.6 for India is out for GT-S5830i

The Galaxy Ace (model number S5830I) is reportedly getting the Android 2.3.6 update, as Samsung has finally set a few balls in motion to update its older devices. As reported by Android OS, the update for the Ace is available for download via Samsung’s dedicated software, Kies. Here is the update version for the Ace S5830I: S5830IXXLA2/S5830IODDLA1. Like all other updates, this one will be distributed to Samsung Ace customers in batches, so you’ll have to be a little patient, if you still haven't received the update for your phone.

Anyone tried ??
are galaxy ace S5830 and galaxy ace S5830I same? cant understand i m from india
sammobile already made announcement that this is not generic version so do not try to flash it as it may brick phone..
they sade 5830i has some different chipset.... so better wait for some time
official update in india are ddkqX so this was what i asked sammobile on twitter and they replied and announced that do not flash this....
all of google news shows galaxy ace getting update but its not
I wondered the same, but I suppose it works for both the phones. I read it on another thread in this forum. People have tried it. I am on 2.3.7 (CM 7.2) so not quite eager to try it out yet.
the one who is saying that he is on 2.3.6.. not this rom specifically and why to talk more as sammobile officially said that this won't work on 5830
i moved away from indian roms months back and never saw region while flashing as all have english and thats more than enough to use roms

For the first time I rooted my phone, I followed this steps that are in the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145
First of all, follow the G. step.
G. Flash Custom Recovery
Follow strictly this step-by-step.
Then, you should be able to root the phone.
To you, what works is the E. step.
E. Rooting for 2.3.3/2.3.4/2.3.5/2.3.6/2.3.7
Remember that you have to download the file attached to the post, upd_1.zip.
I think that it is the best way to root.
no it didn't work on me .. and odin can't detected my phone...
How to flash S5830i official firmware with odin
I downloaded from samfirmware S5830IZCLA4_S5830ICHNLA4_CHN ,but

as i can see you may not be owner of rarely found "i"
and as stocks of international SGA or vice versa do not work , i don't think its good idea to flash cf-root on top as no one actually saw sources for 5830i

[Q] Please help me ..

hello dear friends,
i am very new to this forum. i have a galaxy note running on 2.3.6 . its model number is GT-N7000 ,kernel number is : 2.6.35.7- N7000XXLA1 [email protected]#2. and i want to update my phone to ICS , 4.0.3 . i dont want to root my phone as i heard that it will void my warrenty. i was trying to update OTA but i am getting message that no updates are found in Chicago. i was trying through kies and i am getting a message that " This model cant support initializing " i am not sure what is that. can some please let me know what is wrong ? my kies is working fine, its latest version and i removed and re installed it again . can anyone please suggest me any good method to update to official galaxy note 4.0.3 without rooting my phone.
any input will be greatly appreciated.. thanks a lot..
It simply means that you'll have to wait for the update. Some are getting OTA some via KIES. Don't worry about the message your getting from KIES. I got.tiff and 2 weeks later it updated to a new version and ran the update to ICS. Its rolling out slowly in different regions.
If you can't wait head over to sammobile.com and grab the firmware to flash yourself with Odin...

the OP said they distant want to root!
As a previous poster has said you have two choices really. 1. wait for the official OTA release, or 2. Download an existing stock ROM that had already been released and flash that using Odin.
Instead of using SamMobile you could download FUS Checker, and use that to download a ROM that matches your configuration (if available.) FUS Checker is a Windows app that searches Samsung servers in the same way as Kies but allows you to download and decrypt the file so you can flash it with Odin.

You can try the custom ROMs from the development threads.. You can upgrade to android 4.0, 4.1, 4.2.. You cannot directly upgrade to higher versions from gingerbread as samsung will not provide updates to galaxy ace.. But this will void your warranty, so upgrade at your own risk and only if you are sure of what you are doing..

How To Downgrade to GB 2.3.7?

Hi guys I'm running CM11, ICS 4.2.2 on my Galaxy Ace, GT-S5660D and want to downgrade to the original OS the phone came with, I believe it was GB 2.3.6 or 2.3.7. My phone is rooted but I have no idea how to bring it back to the original Android version. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks this looks promising. But when looking at this site http://www.tsar3000.com/Joomla/inde...laxy-ace-firmwares&catid=55:samsung&Itemid=82 there's no Canada under S5830, only European countries. Should I download the Canadian firmware under S5830D?

Before you install anything, is your phone GT-5660D or GT-5830? Make sure to download the original firmware for your device. Installing any firmware meant for another device on your phone can, in the worst case, hard-brick your device. As for the firmwares, you can download the one that is near to your region. In fact, any regional firmware for a particular phone will work on it. You can also find all the Samsung Galaxy Ace firmwares in the following link,
[Share] All Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 Stock Firmwares (2.3.X) Ever Released
Hope I Helped
I just did it with the help of that thread. Thanks all.
