The phone will work with WIFI. You need a GSM phone, not a CDMA phone, if you want cellular reception.

(I didn't realize the O.P. was asking about a US Cellurar Moto X, which apparently may have a crippled GSM radio.

Thanks for your response. I will stay back from buying as there is no point having a device with broken wifi. .

@smohanv
While this wiki page -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moto_X indicates the XT1055 does support 850/900/1900/2100 UMTS/HSPA, the FCC docs don't list any UMTS/HSPA/WCDMA tests, only CDMA, LTE, and Wifi. And US Cellular's web site doesn't list UMTS/HSPA as supported either. So I'm not sure. Reading THIS FCC doc for the XT1055 indicates only CDMA 800/1900, LTE Bands 4, 5 and 12 only. No mention of UMTS/HSPA/WCDMA.
UMTS and HSPA will be needed if you want faster than 2G speeds on GSM networks.
one other thing I'm unsure of, if the US Cellular X (XT1055) is SIM unlocked for GSM.

Thanks. It is very strange that Moto X comes in different model by network and confusing which one to choose from for the GSM networks like in the UK.
Motorola Moto X XT1058 for AT&T
Motorola Moto X XT1053 for T-Mobile
Motorola Moto X XT1052 for Europe
Motorola Moto X XT1056 for Sprint
Motorola Moto X XT1060 for Verizon
Motorola Moto X XT1055 for U.S. Cellular

This is because of the different frequencies in use by location, and by carrier as well in the case of the USA...
I would be been nice if Moto could have made one GSM version that supported all GSM/EDGE/UMTS/HSPA/LTE frequencies around the globe, and then the CDMA variants (like Verizon, Sprint and US Cellular) as needed.
From that list, most would probably say... XT1052 or XT1053 for use in Europe, but keep in mind the XT1053 would be missing some LTE bands and/or UMTS/HSPA bands that are likely used in Europe.
XT1058 could also work, but you can't unlock its boot loader, and you'd have to watch out for one or two bands not being there.

[Q] T-Mobile Moto X on AT&T/Straight Talk

My friend has a T-Mobile Moto X I'm interested in buying, however, I use Straight Talk as my carrier (which uses AT&T towers). Can the T-Mobile Moto X be unlocked for other carriers? And does the hardware support all of the correct frequencies for AT&T's HSPA+ and LTE networks?
Thanks
Yes.

[Q] network confusion

I just purchased a 32gb verizon moto x developer edition and it's running wonderfully with my verizon account...unlocked, etc and with the Motorola warranty intact because it's a developer edition..
However, I am thinking of changing to Net10 or perhaps move to att or tmobile so I can use international GSM connections as I travel....or just buy a GSM SIM in Europe/Asia. In the old world (pre LTE), a phone was either CDMA or GSM....and one would not work on the other network. Is that still true, or does my Moto x have the capability of running on either GSM or CDMA depending on the SIM that's installed?

In answer to my own question...the verizon moto-x phone has the following specs
Networks
GSM/GPRS/EDGE - UMTS/HSPA + up to 42 Mbps - CDMA/EVDO Rev. A - 4G LTE
2G/2.5G GSM/GPRS/EDGE bands
850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G UMTS bands
850/900/1900/2100 MHz with HSPA+ up to 42 Mbps (B5/B8/B2/B1)
3G CDMA bands
EVDO Rev. A: 850/1900 MHz (BC0/BC1
)
4G LTE bands
750 MHz (B13)
I suspect it's not as simple as just replacing the Simm....or is it?

Moto wont let me buy the extended warranty for the phone they said if i want insurance i need to go through verizon... sigh...
sorry for going off topic. in terms of the bands, as long as any of the providers your looking for runs on the same bands the phone supports you should be good to go.

[Q] can moto x xt1055 working on gsm network?

can moto x xt1055 works on GSM networks?
how to do that?
thanks before
Definitely not. US Cellular mostly uses CDMA for the Ev-DO 3G speeds (800/1900) and does not have a UMTS Chip whatsoever that Tmobile uses for its 3G. It does have a GSM Chip in there so you can get EDGE 2G speeds at least. As far as LTE: the U.S. Cellular model supports bands 4/5/12 which is 1700/2100, 850, and 700 a/b block. Tmobile uses Band 4 so you can at least get LTE coverage.
For the future: if you're uncertain about which phones supports which-frequency: you can look it up on the FCC's website. It's a bit complex at first but you know for sure the information there is accurate and not crowdsourced from places like GSMArena which 'can' get the info wrong.

Different radio setup.
The Verizon Moto X is SIM Unlocked and includes CDMA/EVDO, Quad band GSM support, and UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+ support, and LTE Band 4/13 support. Its listed on Moto's site, Verizon's site, and if you dig a little you can find it in the FCC Docs here -> https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/repo...rame=N&application_id=627824&fcc_id=IHDT56PB1
The Sprint Moto X is SIM LOCKED, and only Sprint can unlock. It includes CDMA/EVDO, and LTE Band 25 support. Per one of its FCC documents it supports WCDMA 2100/1900/850, GSM 1800/1900/850/900, LTE band 25, HSDPA 21.1Mbps (cat 14), HSUPA 5.76Mbps, along with the CDMA.

Still no solution about xt1055 gsm calls and data?
My xt1055 can do gsm voice calls but each one ends in 20-30 seconds without reason. Unlock was made with Dr.Faramrose guide.

I live in Europe - Macedonia, so i want to know will this phone work in Macedonia?
Also there are 2 choises on motorla site Motorla X pure edition and NET10 Wireless , which one should i chose
You have to consider what networks your GSM supports. The version you will buy will depend on your carrier.
EDIT: This section is also for the 2013 model. The 2014 Moto X have their own section.

Find the right droid turbo

Hi at all. I'm looking for buy a droid turbo on eBay but i see that there is 3 principal version: verizon, gsm unloked and factory unloked. I'm from italy and i don't understand if the "verizon" version work with all gsm worldwide carriers or only with verizon sim.
Please refer to this thread, I asked for advices and live in France. You should be fine except for 4G LTE bands. Depending on your carrier, the XT1254/XT1250 (Verizon Droid Turbo/Moto Maxx) should have less LTE signal than the XT1225 (Moto Maxx international version), if any.

Then you confirm that all droid turbo verizon selled on eBay are sim free (i can put on it a italian or europea sim carier)? The lte band in theory work with my gsm carier.

yeap they all work fine. I got a limited edition one from verizon and it works just fine in Greece. Like mentioned earlier though you will have reduced signal reception for lte
Yes, the U.S. FCC agency makes Verizon sell all LTE phones now unlocked to work with any carrier, as long as the LTE bands are compatible.
This was part of the agreement for Verizon to get more LTE spectrum from the government.
AT&T did not have to make this agreement, only Verizon.
The issue is for most people living in other countries (most, not all), they don't need CDMA but they do need HSPA and LTE. The XT1225 "international" Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo has more HSPA bands and more LTE bands AND has easily unlockable bootloader. But a lot of people only know about one Quark -- the Droid Turbo, when there are better versions out there for their purposes. The Verizon public relations machine LIED and made people think the Droid Turbo was "exclusive" WORLDWIDE, when it wasn't even exclusive in the U.S (Many regions CDMA/LTE carriers in the U.S. sold identical phone!)
So, people don't know about the U.S. Moto Maxx (XT1250) which is identical in every way to the Droid Turbo (same radio bands, same FCC ID) or they don't know about the XT1225 "international" Moto Maxx, which has more HSPA and LTE bands (but not CDMA bands).
Basically the Moto "Quark" is like a an LG G4. I'm using that premium LG phone as an example. An LG G4 has the the same hardware, no matter where sold, no matter what carrier -- but has different radio bands (and different model number) depending on the region/carrier. But it's STILL an LG G4 -- whether sold in Europe, India, South America, or by Verizon or AT&T in the U.S.
Basically that describes a Moto Quark. Verizon's Quark was called the Droid Turbo. That's all, it's still just a Quark. The only thing "exclusive" about it was the locked down bootloader. Motorola gave the same phone to other carriers, the same way LG have the G4 to other carriers besides Verizon. Other Quarks are called Moto Maxx or Moto Turbo, but you have to go by the MODEL NUMBER to make sure you have the right one, since there were two Moto Maxx models with different radio bands (XT1250, XT1225). Then in India, the XT1225 was re-named the Moto Turbo, since there was an Indian phone carrier named Max or Maxx, and Motorola didn't want people to think this phone was affiliated with that carrier. So, even the "Turbo" name was not exclusive in any way. You can't say "I have a Turbo!" There were TWO Quarks called "Turbo". You have to use model names, XT1250, XT1254, XT1225 to differentiate between the Quarks.
(Verizon owns the rights to "Droid" name in the mobile arena, licensed from LucasArts/Disney and can call ANY phone a Droid -- even crappy low end phones, if they wished. "Droid" does not mean anything, and is not limited to any manufacturer. So far, Verizon has only used it with Motorola phones, but Verizon controls the name, not any manufacturer. Verizon now has mid-tier phones with Droid name, so they are not even pretending Droid is a premium phone any more.)
By naming the same Quark phone by different model names caused a lot of confusion, but Verizon demanded that so they could PRETEND they had some exclusive phone. Same way the Droid Turbo 2 was the Moto X Force everywhere else. No exclusives -- just a different model name for Verizon for the same phone.
______
See this post for more information about bands. Italy is like France -- you'll get LTE bands 3 and 7, but not LTE band 20. What HSPA bands do you need?
