DIRECT connection for wireless charging - G2 Accessories

Hello guys,
Few weeks ago i read about connecting standard wireless qi usb adapter to phone itself. I mean, connect 2 stripes of cables to 5v and ground on motherboard, so usb would be still avaiable. Do you know where on motherboard those pins are ?

Interesting, I'm trying to find out too. I did a mod that way with my NOTE1. Mostly likely near the USB port, but I afraid it'll affect the NFC , because NFC is on the Cover. And the coil 's pcb must be extremely thin.

I would gladly get rid off nfc anyway, as I don't use it. Voltometer is on its way to me, so any time soon I'll try to update the thread

news pliz??
thanks..

current Qi is good for 7mm i believe...which is plenty of space for most cases. it wont pass through metal though, and I'm sure some materials hinder that more than others. I used a couple different cases on my nexus 5 and was able to charge with all of them.

The Qi chargers are 12V I believe. I modified a car charger to fit the adapter for the Qi wire. I had to solder it to the 12V wires in the car plug. The 5V would not charge it.
You should be able to find 12V power coming out of the power supply.

Good Solid Usb Cables?

This may sound silly, but can anyone recommend a good quality USB cable for charging the note?
Back when I had my Motorola Photon, the usb cables I had all ended up crapping out because the connector that plugged into the phone would bend or something causing it not to fit snugly in the usb port. I would have to put something on the connector when the phone was changing so that the pins would stay in contact.
Then I invested in a bunch of these cables: amazon.com/AmazonBasics-USB-Cable-Micro-Meters/dp/B003ES5ZSW
It's a surprisingly good cable and the connectors are solid so they always stay snug when you plug it in.
Now that I have my Note though, these cables are no good for charging anymore. For some reason, they can't carry 2amps to the phone; I'm not sure if it's the length or the gauge of the wire that's the problem, but my phone charges unusually slow when I use one of those cables in the stock usb charger.
So, I'm looking for a tough usb cable that can carry 2amps and has solid connectors like the Amazon cables. The one that came with the phone is alright, but it's not as thick as the Amazon cable so it doesn't feel as tough.
Thanks!

This a good quality USB cable: http://dx.com/p/usb-male-to-micro-usb-male-charging-data-cable-for-htc-120cm-109774?item=32
Quite proffessional & robust aspect , microUSB fits tightly and firmly, connection is actually stable even with very used devices with worn connector. Works where others fail .The length is perfect for charging and working with the computer.
I like to buy the older OEM cables that came with the S1 and S2 on amazon for like 3 bucks with prime. I Suppose they aren't the most rugged, but at like 3 bucks (or less) who cares? I buy a bunch of them so I can have them all over the place, and I have spares. They charge my note2 just fine... though I haven't really tested any comparison charging really.

That looks like the HTC cable I've got which i hated because it has memory and the connection between the head and the rest of the wire looked flimsy, but this one could be different.
Personally, I think the cable that came with the Nexus 7 is pretty robust, but the best one I've ever used is the one that came with my Nokia N900 (the long one, not the icky little short one, although both share the same build quality).
point is the USB 3.0... in short I guess you won't find cable for Note 2 what knows the 2A. Your best choice it is if you buy an USB 3.0 extender (you know the connector is colored to blue inside = 3.0) for the orig Samsung cable

That makes no sense. For charging it doesn't matter what micro usb cable you use. I'v been using the cable that came with my original Droid, it works just fine. Also pretty sure the Note 2 isn't usb 3 capable.
The are ruggedized cables inn Amazon but the cable is more rugged not the connector. If you are worried about repetitive connecting killing the cable then get a dock. I use the genetic dock I had for my GS3 and the note 2 actually fits better on it than the gs3 ever did. I'll find the product link for both on Amazon.

You might also take a look www.monoprice.com . I've purchased several micro usb cables from them (from 3 ft to 6 ft in length); good quality, lasts a long time. Lifetime warranty. They're made with heavy gauge wire, making for a thick cable, so it won't be a flexible as some others, though.
I only charge my phone at work using my monitors USB jack, i use one of these Nokia USB cables - http://www.all4phone.com/data/gfx/pictures/large/5/1/15_4.jpg
It charges it fine for my daily use while in work, though obviously not 2A.
It's been in use 5 days a week for over 2 years and has never bent or broke.
I don't know how people come to break Micro USB cable ends, I've never broke one ever!

I've struggled with a variety of the longer, non-OEM micro USB cables - the Amazon Basics you mentioned, cables from Monoprice, etc. I had problems with all of them, either not providing enough current, or just flaking out within a short time. At one point I thought my phone had a problem with the micro USB jack (it didn't). Then one day I found a great cable on Amazon:
Search Amazon "Mediabridge - USB 2.0 A-Male to Micro-B Cable (6 Feet)"
I've been using this cable for several years now, and it has proven to be very durable (I've run over it with my office chair a number of times), and has always provided the full current of the charger I am using with no issues at all. I purchased another one recently to use in another location, and the quality is the same. I've been using these cables with all of my phones, and currently with the Note II.
First post! I felt this suggestion was important enough to un-lurk after 4 years
The "new" samsung stock cable seems very nice. my favorite is still the kindle cable. good quality long and charges EVERYTHING.
that DX cable also loos very nice I may have to order a couple of those.

That's what I meant, the jacket on the wires is thick and makes the cable feel tough, but I have no idea what the gauge of the wire is.

Most micro USB 2.0 cables have 28 AWG for data and 28 AWG and 24 AWG for the two power lead cables; if one were to use regular 16AWG lamp cord to act as power lead current shunts; to help enable the micro USB 2.0 cables to carry enough current; to be able to pass up to 2.0A for the hi current carrying charger adapter for a typical Samsung Tablet 2.0 A charger application; when ones Samsung tablet battery has been fully depleted; perhaps this can be confirmed and/or verified using an USB based Power Monitor that measures both voltage and current and the also displays them both to easily see the voltage and current real time values; as the Samsung tablet battery is being recharged?
I just bought a bunch of the OEM Samsung Note 2 chargers off Amazon. The charger is rated at 2 amps so I'd assume the cable is, too. Although I've never tried to monitor how much current the phone is getting while charging. Seems to charge faster on the OEM 2 amp charger than on all my other crappier chargers.
In my experience the cheap cables and chargers from DX aren't good. They were fine on my old WinMo phone but anything up to and including my old first gen Galaxy doesn't deal well with the cheap cables.

Oem chargers are only available from samsung, official samsung online store or authorised dealer with the official samsung box, or through samsung service center without the box, other places are just A+ quality chargers from china that looks identical.
As long as it's a good quality cable, it should give you the acceptable charge rate, the note 2 does not charge the full 2A current.

Well they came in Samsung packaging and I can't tell the difference. They were like $20 a peice instead of the usual $5 or so for cheap chargers so i hope they're OEM.

I presume they are oem, trust me a A+ quality one from china looks identical, i needed another one, so I took my out of the box charger to china to buy another because it's cheaper, but many of the shops say they are not oem.
They are too expensive in hong kong.
Now I have a hard time getting a note 3 one.

if you do want a good quality cable, have you consider getting some professional made one's, i've also seen some sold at shops that sells professional headphones and portable power amp for phones, they have cable, but at a very very good price, anything from USD 25 to USD 150.
I use Monoprice 6-Feet USB 2.0 A Male to Micro 5pin Male 28/24AWG Cable with Ferrite Core (Gold Plated)
I have packed my oem cable, that came with my note away, that way i know i will always have a backup cable that works for certain tasks that i need to be sure are done without fault.

[Q] wireless charging on i9305?

Hello to all fellow i9305 owners
Can anyone out there confirm that any of the existing wireless charging mods on I9305 lte actually works?
The reason for my asking is that the my usb charging socket started to show signs of wear and tear . Basically my phones socket became very sensitive to any standard micro usb charging cable. Sometimes it works but 50% of times it doesnt. (I have tried four different cables)
The only cable that works 100% is the MHL one (HDMI-out with USB-charge) which is slightly longer and goes in deeper into the socket (making better connection). Since I've realized the issue was with the mechanical failure of the usb port I decided to explore the wireless charging methods.
There is a big thread about it (which is locked due to people misbehaving) so please do not post links to mods (I've read them all).
I even took the plunge and I have bought all the gear for palm mod (that didnt work) and the gear for QI mod (that did not work either).
Im beginning to think that either my fone is faulty (but no way of proving it since there is no official Samsung wireless charging yet) or perhaps there is something I need to do with software (custom ROM?).I am on latest rooted stock rom by Lyriquid, BTW
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Yes: My GT-I9305 is enhanced using the charging coil, etc., out of a Palm Pixi Touchstone back cover with a Palm Touchstone puck. I used copper tape and resoldered the contact points on the wireless charging coil so that they align with the contacts in the phone. The coil is stuck inside the unmodified original back cover using the white sticky cover from inside the Pixi, and some white duct tape to cover the copper tape extensions out to the contacts. I have reused the metal disks with the sticky coil cover to locate the back on the charging puck.
It charges at about 230 mA through my TPU back cover, slower than normal, but perfectly adequate.
The Touchstone puck is fussy about cables and USB PSUs.

Well, Thank you very much
Your post was very helpful and informative, especially the bit about the 'fussy puck'.
I will try that setup again but with different USB cables and chargers perhaps.
Im guessing there isnt any led confirming that the puck is on ?
Thanks again (thanks button pressed too)
Hi guys,
I've used the palm wireless charger with one of those stickers that you attach to the phone on top of battery. It was working perfect but you have to put the phone with this sticker exactly on the middle of the charger otherwise won't work. If you have a case on the phone won't work either. It takes to much time until it charges the battery (I've had a 4500ma ). You can check if the wireless pad works with a multimeter. Put the sticker on it and check if it gets any electricity.
Sent from my GT-I9305 using xda premium
Yes, now I know I need a sticker. Also as I realised I needed the sticker I thougjt I might put magnets as well too.
Then I tried this all and it was wouldn't work with my flip cover so I've attached the palm sticker to the bak of my flip-over case and put the original backing away.
Now its all brilliant . I have my phone in my case and charging wirelessly with no issues.
Those usb sockets arent really made to last, arent they
Thanks everyone who helped.

if you want a "pre-manufactured" wireless charging solution, you can also go on ebay and buy the Qi wireless receiver pad. it fits underneath the battery door as well and NFC still works. The only thing I don't like about it is that it causes a small "dome" on the battery cover so if you use a case, the more "sturdy" ones like the otterbox or the ballistic or anything that will hold its shape to overcome the slight bump.
apart from that if you're handy w/ modding and such, the palm touchstone mod is also perfect since it's insanely cheaper than anything that is offered out there.

Qi Charging adapter?

Do you guys think they'll make a Qi charging adapter? The contacts would connect to the pins on the underside of the witch and the charging coils could just be covered by a black sticker. It could be like the S4 inserts for Qi charging. Wouldn't add bulk either. What do you guys think?

I'm surprised a Chinese company hasn't done this yet. Qi receivers are easily thin enough and making a charging dock like a normal watch base with a Qi coil on top would be simple enough I think. There must be a reason this hasn't happened. I'd buy it for sure. I can't stand the stock charging cradle and I'm not spending $35 for a spare one either. That's highway robbery. I'd like to see this happen.
The hardware needs to support it, but I am willing to modify hardware given to tools and instructions.
I'd buy one for sure. I'm an avid QI user with a charger bedside, couchside, in home office, work office, and the QI car charger for my Note 3.
Please make this!

[solved]Nook won't charge-possible 1$ solution (needs soldering)

I was looking for a solution to this problem and after opening the nook I found out that on the socket one of the contacts is pushed towards inside - I've strighten it and tried to insert the cable but the cable pushed the contact again. So I glued it with some epoxy glue and currently I'm waiting until it cures.
Sent from my Redmi Note 3 using Tapatalk
It turns out that it wasn't the main problem - the nook now is working on power from the charger but it isn't charging the battery. My next try is to solder on a cheap lion charging board from china inside. I couldn't find any 5v test point but there is space for a capacitor near the connector and on the battery connector there are batt+ and batt- test points. This should be enough for the charger.
edit:
Its working!!
i've used a cheap lion charging module from china for 1$. I've cut out the microusb connector, wrapped it in duct tape and fitted it inside the nook.
It's slower than the original charger - only 1A but its working

It's good quality, same red as the one in the box but it's a flat cable.
I went for the big boss bundle
But even 1.5m is pretty short. I have some circumstances -- mainly hotel rooms -- where a longer cord would be really helpful.
I recall reading that there is non-standard circuitry in the cable to alert the phone that it's a Dash charge, so a regular USB-C cable won't do Dash.
What I am wondering is whether a high-quality USB extension cable -- one cable of handling the amperage of Dash charging -- would solve the problem.
I have ordered one from A**zon and will report back when it arrives.
Still any news of a Dash-capable cable longer than 1.5M would be very welcome.
If anyone still want to have cheaper (but dash-charge capable) 1.5m cable, here is link from AliExpress:

I have had it since few months, it's working fine, it is flat, a LOT cheaper and longer than standard cable. Only disadvantage is that flat cable is a bit more hard, not so flexible. I don't even care if it's original or not if it's working fine with Dash Charge [emoji14]

The result is a success .
The "A**zonBasics USB 3.0 Extension Cable - A-Male to A-Female", together with my original charging cable, is recognized by my 5T as a Dash charger even though the (combined extension and original) cable length is now 4 metres.
Now... It doesn't seem QUITE as fast as the Dash cable alone. Given the cable length and extra connection, that's not surprising. But it's still fast. And neither phone, cables nor charger are at all warm. while charging
Note: The extension cable is 22AWG and is marked on the connector ends as "SS" USB. It's thicker than the red OEM cable but that (I hope) assures that it can carry the extra amperage of the Dash charge.
Cost: $7
Comments are welcome. When able I will try to measure the comparative charging time with and without the extension.

Thanks for this, the link is still active. I bought a few and both seem to work, usually at around 3000mah instead of 3300mah from the shorter original cable. Nothing has caught on fire yet
I'm using this at work, to extend the stock charging cable by another 3 feet. I get full dash charging with this and it's only 6 bucks. Def worth it.
